Went today for their AYCE lunch special. The place is so nice on the inside, I was shocked how wonderful it looked. Our server was a kind guy who regularly checked up on us. We started with one roll and gyoza. The gyoza was great. All of the fish was fresh, our only complaint being the rice was warm and falling apart. Our first roll was the queen roll. It was a dolled up California roll. Next we ordered the Las Vegas roll and the shrimp tempura roll. The Las Vegas was fried a little too long so not the best fried salmon roll I've had. It was also thickly cut and COVERED in mayo. The shrimp tempura was delicious but barely had any eel sauce on it. Next we did the volcano roll and the Christmas roll. The volcano roll was hands down the best roll I've had. Spicy, crunchy, and full of flavor. The Christmas roll was pretty but the amount of fish eggs was a bit overpowering. We finished with clear soups which weren't very good compared to others I've had. Over all everything was good quality and yummy but I was disappointed with the options, 4/12 of the rolls were just dolled up California rolls and that's just the special rolls. read more

The staff were so welcoming and friendly, and the food tasted average to good. Price for AYCE was impressive. However, the restaurant seemed dingy at best, possibly even borderline dirty. The decor is very old and worn. My seat had torn vinyl; my (semi-germophobe) son said the bathroom was pretty dirty and asked not to return. With a super deep cleaning from top to bottom and new decor, we MIGHT give it another try in the distant future. read more

Men this location left a lot to be desired. When I last went the rolls were just "ok" and were a little sloppily made. Service took a while to get around to us. The food still tasted good but this location could be great with a little more TLC. read more

This was, by far, the worst sushi I've ever had. My husband tried to finish his rolls and ended the day with a sick stomach. I ate one bite and refused to continue. The server was polite and friendly but that does not make up for inedible food. This is a love or hate restaurant and it's a LOVE from me. We visit every month and absolutely love it all. The lunch is almost $7 less than dinner and just as fabulous! Had a rude, stuck up, most likely homophobic server, he literally took my phone for apple pay and never gave it back, very careless when serving my friends and I our plates of sushi, and was kinda just carrying things over my head and bumping into me without a sorry or anything. First time visit and the all you can eat lunch is absolutely worth it! It's rare to dine for less than $40 for 2 these days and we left satisfied. You can chose anything on the menu but we ordered as we finished plates to avoid being charged for any excess. I could've did without the fried rice and hibachi steak as it tasted just ok. But the sushi was delicious. The volcano roll may have been my favorite but none of the rolls disappointed! We also loved having the option of having our gyoza and shumai steamed or fried (fried is the way to go). Our server was attentive and the restaurant wasn't too packed either. Honestly I used to eat at sushi king a lot 5-6 years ago, but I feel like the quality has kind of gone down. The sushi rolls were still very good considering it's all you can eat but it took forever to get our food. I loved the spring rolls and the sunrise? Roll (mango, fruit, avocado). The fried rice was very mid. We were also kind of shooed out at closing, which I understand since I've worked as a server several times before, but it was only a few minutes after 10 and there were other people at tables near us. They told us they were locking the doors so we needed to leave. so I didn't looove that too too much. This is a great place to eat as a vegetarian and where you can try a lot of different things but try to come earlier during dinner if you can to avoid that. read more

Sushi King is a chain that I've frequented many times. I would argue that this is the best deal for all you can eat sushi in the area ($21.99 per person for dinner). Compared to so many sushi spots in Richmond, Sushi King absolutely gives the greatest proportion of fish to rice for the sushi, hand rolls, and nigiri. The sushi is fresh, cool, and delicious, and the warmth of the rice is a pleasant contrast. The krab rangoons are some of my favorite I've ever had. The service can be a little hit or miss in terms of attentiveness, but is normally quite reasonable, and despite whatever they tell you the wait will be, it will be about half of that. P.S. Really good! You pay $21 as an adult for a buffet of sushi! Lowkey so many options that it's really overwhelming. But it's worth it cause you can get as much as you want! Sushi King needs to expand to the NOVA area because I would definitely drive 2 hours just to come back here. $20 for all you can eat sushi PLUS more? Count me in! My cousin has been singing this place's praises for years and I finally gave in and came with him to try it out. The sushi wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't good. The sushi rice needed more seasoning (vinegar, salt, and sugar). The Kani salad at the bar was bland. The menu did have a lot of options which was a plus for an all you can eat sushi place. They do charge you for sushi you don't end up eating which makes sense but just be aware of that while ordering. Service wasn't bad either. I read in another review that they should rename this place to "Rice King" instead of Sushi King... and I'm going to have to wholeheartedly agree. Right off the bat, one of the very first dishes we ordered was the Volcano Roll, which was quite literally a deep fried roll of rice. Like they couldn't even put a whole artificial crab stick piece in there. If you've ever bought the crab sticks before, you know it is literally more work to split the crab stick into tiny pieces than it is to use a whole or even half a piece. That one sushi roll set my mood for the rest of the meal which proceeded to be rolls and rolls after rolls of rice. Even the nigiri didn't save this meal since the fish tasted old and fishy. In good sushi, the fish tastes clean and sometimes sweet with minimal "fishy" taste (except for fish such as mackerel which has strong fishy taste). This place even the salmon and tuna tasted off. I don't think it was spoiled, but it definitely wasn't the freshest fish. The teriyaki beef and shrimp, we had to make sure to *specifically* ask for no rice or vegetable, and even then the presentation of what was served to us was as if we were eating at a school cafeteria with teriyaki sauce slopped onto the plate, not at a AYCE for $20 per person. Honestly I've had more appetizing AYCE meals at even Olive Garden or Cici's Pizza just on value, taste and presentation alone (obviously not comparing type of food though). Even the appetizers could not save this meal, with the shrimp tempura and fried calamari tasting bland and tough. The calamari particularly tasted almost fishy, like it was old calamari. Even the miso soup was bland! MISO SOUP! Like the miso soup I make at home tastes more flavorful than this one which they had clearly slung cups of extra water into the pot without adding corresponding extra miso. The only reason why I'm rating 2 stars instead of 1 was because the service was good. Our waiter always made sure to frequently come by to check on us and take our orders, and the food came out pretty quickly. For $20, this meal felt way overpriced for the rice rolls we got. I feel like the quality of what we got should reasonably be half price $10 for AYCE, and even then the food was so disappointing I probably wouldn't return. read more

A group of us ate here recently and all I can say is yummy!! We have eaten here a few times before and this time I definitely missed the buffet but they did bring everything we wanted to the table. The waiters all stayed on top of the next dish, the next refill of drinks and anything else we needed. The bathrooms this trip needed a little attention but they were not unusable. My 16 y o grandson loves this restaurant. He can definitely put away a lot of sushi so this is a great value. There is a large variety of rolls and a kids menu so there is something that everyone would like. I've narrowed mine down to three that I really like. We were the first ones in the door at 5pm so the first order of food came pretty quickly. As the place filled up it took longer. There was a very large group that came in right after us so that's why it took longer to get our next orders. Our server was wonderful. Can't recall her name but the had long cherry red hair. The room was large with booths and tables to adjust the seating and they have a separate party space. There is a flowing fountain with a koi pond that give it a nice Asian feel. We love Sushi King. So much so that we know which rolls we want to order before looking at the menu. We always get the crab Rangoon to start and miso soup. We order an array of rolls and share. They also have stir fry too if you don't like sushi. I miss the appetizer bar being open when COVID wasn't a thing, but I'm sure it'll be back.
