Haven't been to ninja in a while but wanted to grab a bite today before picking up the kiddo from school. Located right by Safeway Kailua, this ninja sushi was a smaller store then most that I have been to in the past. I think this is my first time coming to this location, not sure if they are all owned by the same owners. The lady who took my order was very nice and the rolls came out very quickly. Cost was a bit high but understandable, everything is a bit expensive nowadays. Tried half of the rainbow sushi and half of the spam sushi (had to give the other half to my hungry monster I picked up from school). Both were very yummy, would go back again. read more

For a chain restaurant this is great. Everything is takeout still do to restrictions but you can and should order ahead to avoid lines. This is a family run place and the staff are courteous, Aloha friendly and professional. It's great for the fresh delicious seafood fix in the area. Great value for the quantity. We enjoyed our rolls and sides a lot. Well definitely be back and hope they continue with the fresh tasty food. It was dinner time. I just came from the beach and thought, I'm hungry for sushi let's give Ninja Sushi a try. My Aunty lives right across the street from Ninja so the location is very convenient. I always see a line outside their door so they must be good. They only allow 2 people in at a time to pick-up orders or to place an order. I waited outside. When it was my turn I looked over the menu and planned on ordering several items. I was hungry and excited because I was trying a new sushi place. I asked the lady working what their most popular maki roll was... she gave me this look and pointed to the Superman sushi pictured. I said ok. Then I asked if she could recommend a crunchy roll...(she is not looking at me at this time) and then says, crunchy is crunchy and points to another picture. I felt like she couldn't be bothered. She was rude. So I just ordered one Superman maki and that was it. I shouldn't have ordered anything with an attitude like that. I was disappointed because this was first time there. The sushi taste was okay. It seemed fresh. The presentation needs work. Sushi looked messy. I was expecting a shoyu packet and some ginger with the sushi. Nope, nada, nothing, Aohe...... Thank God I got a napkin and hashi. I MAY give this place another try. I'd like to order other items on the menu but if their customer service is the same it's a No go! read more

I've been going to this place ever since I was a littlegirl and it never gets old. When I moved out of Kailua it saddened me since I didn't get to go to this place as often as I used to, but whenever I'm back in Kailua, I try to visit this place. Especially since this is the only location I like. I tried the other ones and the only one that is almost as good as this one is the one in Winward Mall The woman who owns this place is a really nice lady and I always get efficient and quick service. Along with that all their sushi is very high-quality. I know that sushi and seafood in general has gotten expensive lately, but their prices are absolutely reasonable for what you're getting. My mom and I always get the same things whenever we come here she gets the poke Donburi and I get the junior set A two of them. This place is really a hidden gem on top of that it is never too crowded for me so the noise level is always to my liking. read more

I was doing a job in Kailua today, when the gf calls me, and asks me for some help as her car had a flat tire. To top off her bad day, she didn't even get to eat lunch either (it was like 4:00 PM)............as she couldn't go anywhere due to the flat tire. Upon finishing up my work..........Dat dada daaaaaa! Super Fran to the rescue!!!! I strolled next door (from where I was working) to a place called "Ninja Sushi". Upon scanning the menu, I decided to order a "Salmon Combo" for the gf, so she could get something to eat, while I changed her flat tire to her car. The "Salmon Combo" consisted of (5) pieces of Salmon Sushi, and (5) pieces of Tempura Maki Sushi. I did not get to try any of the food (you will have to ask Jules Y. on how da grindz was), but I have to say the service was excellent! As soon as I walked into the shop, the friendly clerk acknowledged me right away, and after placing my food order........it came out pretty fast. I honestly don't understand why people say the service here is poor. The people here are always really nice, and they do the best they can when they get busy. Most times it's only two, maybe three, people running the whole shop (taking phone orders, counter orders, making the sushi, trying to provide table service, etc.). Ninja Sushi stores aren't usually table-service restaurants yet the people here take the time to run food to people's tables and bus tables all while trying to take orders and make sushi. The ahi (spicy ahi, spicy poke, and ahi sashimi) here is always good. 8 piece rolls range from $6-$10, 3 piece nigiri's from $4-$6, donburi's from $8-$11 and bentos from $10-14. The amount of food they give for the price is always pretty good too. This place is my go-to sushi store in Kailua. I give the place 4 stars instead of five because cuts of fish other than the ahi aren't always the freshest but it's still okay. My guess is that this is because the ahi is the most popular. If you're in Kailua and craving fish, this place would be the place to-go. I'd definitely say it's better than the Genki Sushi in Kaneohe. read more

This is an above average ninja sushi that does good business. Their rolls are fresh, their nigiri has slices of fish that are generous and of good quality for a take out sushi chain, with sushi rice that is fresh when I order from them in the evenings. Their service is good, I've never had any issues with them, although they do get busy and rushed in the PM's. read more

Please see these 3 photoes. These were taken from last night. We have been going here for 4,5 times n it has been okay until last night. Hamachi, Ahi and Salmon Sushi we ordered last night were all horrible not fresh at all. .. smelly, rubbery...as you see the last 3pics it all looked totally different than other pics from previous visits as well. My boyfriend and I are both picky eater when it comes to Sushi and they're ok level before but last night we were actually shocked to be served these junk quality sushi by them. Hamachi had mostly blood line which usually scrapps for house use never to serve for paying customers! Salmon looked ok first but when you pick up it automatically smell bad and I bit into it was horribly chewy...top of this experience these Korean couple owners/cook's response to our comments were even more horrible. They glanced at my boyfriend who is Caucasian and automatically claiming we don't know what we are talking about. He even try having the owner smell the fish but he didn't want to do that n instead kept telling us they've been having this business for 15 years n nobody complaints, fish are fine, it's fresh from this morning and repeat again. Not listening to our concern at all. Then we pointed out the fact they served us those blood line n also fish must be previously frozen not texture wise fresh from the morning at all the guy owner admitted that then told us we all make a mistake so to let him make those dishes again?!? By the time he said that we were both done with this place. Obviously they never have any decency to refund any money to us. (We paid $43 for those junk sushi) so we left. Never never go there again! We are processing of filing an official complaint right now since I felt sick after ward as well. read more

2.5 stars this time. Wife's salmon tasted totally fishy. Told the server and the "chef" brought us some salmon sashimi. Not quite as bad but not good. Two of my 9 pieces of unagi were kinda tough and chewy. The others were fine. The unagi/avo roll (minus fake crab) was very good. Have found out the food here is really inconsistent. Disappointing sushi, sashimi, and restaurant/fast food experience. First of all.. the place smells funky.. You order at the counter, pay, and then you pick it up - or it's brought out to you. I think you have to specify when you order. We had sashimi, dragon roll, and a spicy tuna roll and the three were disappointing. The spicy roll was super mayonnaise-ish and not a bit spicy. The dragon roll was barely passable. It looked beautiful, but did not taste good. You could really taste the oil used to fry the tempura. The sashimi was ok - not the quality that I expected. Their fish is not of the best quality but what makes it even worse is their customer service. One time I went there (I'm a local Hawaiian guy), the cashier told me to wait outside after I placed my order and normally, I would have been okay with that. However, a customer came in after me who was a Caucasian female who was with her two children, and I watched her order and then I saw that the cashier did not tell her to wait outside for her order, but me and my two children had to. She patiently waited inside the comfortable air conditioned restaurant while my children and I waited outside in the blazing heat. Is it because I'm Hawaiian? What finally made me post a review is what happened tonight. I ordered a bunch of stuff and then when I got the total, I took out the necessary amount of money but called my son to have him count it out for the lady (he's 9 years old). The total was $47.03 so my son gave her $48.00. She took the money, grabbed the change from the register, then looked at my son and without anyone telling her to do so, she put the change in her tip jar. My intention was to give my son the change for a reward for counting out the right amount of money but she decided for herself to keep the money. When I asked for the change for my son I received attitude like I was supposed to give her that tip. She felt entitled to that tip. I will never go back to Ninja Sushi in Kailua again! read more

I'm been coming to this place for a while every now and then because it's pretty much the only place to get sushi in Kailua. Whenever I order, the older Korean lady (I think the owner) is usually there and she always just kinda looks at me with a blank, expectant, stare. Like she's asking "Can I help you?" except she doesn't say a word. Other than that, the sushi here has steadily gone downhill over the years, and today, when I ordered a Superman and Salmon nigiri, the Superman's ahi had a fishy smell AND a hair in it. The Salmon in the nigiri had a very flat, pale, color, and was the texture of rubber. Both were inedible. I'm officially done with this place. read more

Honestly I hate to write this but out of safety I have to. I have been here before and was happy with my food in the past and to be fair I only ordered one thing. Until today I took my kids and ordered a variety of different menu items. I expected since they have a single item menu that it would be in a single package. I have a shellfish allergy and upon receiving my order I realized that they had my sons order which contained shellfish and put it into the same container as my order. I went back inside to ask if they could remake it and put them separately. Instantly the owner got upset and told me I should have told them I was allergic to shellfish. As I originally did not I was ok with her confrontation at the time as I am a pretty understanding person. When she came back outside, my daughter had asked if they had remade it and she replied "no". She had taken out the order and just repackaged them into separate containers. This time I got upset and informed her that it is now considered contaminated and I could end up in the hospital she then very angrily yelled at me telling me it was my fault. At this point I had no patience left and informed her 1. I have worked in the food industry and she was not properly handling shellfish to begin with 2. she did not ask me if she could put different kinds of sushi smashed into one container. Lastly 3. Upon being informed tried to just separate the sushi that had been touching the shellfish instead of following basic food handling protocol and remaking the order. I am appalled by her lack of knowledge and attitude in regards to a food allergy that will send people hospital. I am from Hawaii and eat sushi all the time and have NEVER had any cross contamination issues. I will not be returning and it's not due to the quality of the food but the quality of the service I received not to mention the almost trip to the ER. Never have I been made to feel like it was my fault that I'm allergic to certain kinds of food. I'm actually the person that will down play my allergy to make my family and friends feel comfortable eating as they please without it being a big deal until today. read more

Yeah, I can concur with several of these reviews. The first thing one notices upon entry is the awful stench emanating throughout the establishment. Granted, it is a very compact space but still! Secondly, we walk in & there is no one there. For like a good minute, it's just us, the clientele. Out of nowhere a woman, whom we assume is the cashier, darts in. "Oh! Excuse me!" Doesn't apologize & actually tends to the ringing phone before she finally addresses us. We (sadly) gave her & this place the benefit of the doubt & proceeded to order anyway. I settled on the a spicy tuna roll which was probably the worst I've ever had in my whole life. The fish was not fresh & in turn had a most unpleasant flavor, just foul. My brother settled on a Philly roll which he deemed OK. Ninja Sushi is a sort of franchise found all over Hawaii it seems. They can definitely use an upgrade by modifying their approach to making sushi ALL AROUND. Fresh ingredients never hurt anyone. High end prices for low end sushi. read more

The people were really, really nice. Super nice. So friendly and so nice. Aside from that... When you walk into the place you get hit in the face with... reek? It smells a little bit like a bathroom. A bathroom where fish have been murdered. And then after the fish were murdered someone came in with some bulk cleaner and cleaned, except that person was blind and missed a lot of spots. That's what it smells like. The kids meal are cheap, though my kids didn't care for them. My youngest was miffed that it didn't arrive in a bear plate like the picture, but that's just the breaks. My California maki was absolutely terrible. I'm not sure in what direction is was terrible, but it just tasted... not good. I had to force myself to eat half of it and then gave up. It did not come with ginger or wasabi or good flavors. My son, however, liked the beef udon. Which is not any sort of testament to quality as he is 9 and thinks those waxy fruit snacks are the shinizzle, but at least he enjoyed his meal. The trash can had a tall, precarious pile of recyclables balanced on it as the tiny recycling basket was full, and the trash can was disgustingly sticky. They seemed like such nice people, but never again. read more
