Yeah, I can concur with several of these reviews. The first thing one notices upon entry is the awful stench emanating throughout the establishment. Granted, it is a very compact space but still! Secondly, we walk in & there is no one there. For like a good minute, it's just us, the clientele. Out of nowhere a woman, whom we assume is the cashier, darts in. "Oh! Excuse me!" Doesn't apologize & actually tends to the ringing phone before she finally addresses us. We (sadly) gave her & this place the benefit of the doubt & proceeded to order anyway. I settled on the a spicy tuna roll which was probably the worst I've ever had in my whole life. The fish was not fresh & in turn had a most unpleasant flavor, just foul. My brother settled on a Philly roll which he deemed OK. Ninja Sushi is a sort of franchise found all over Hawaii it seems. They can definitely use an upgrade by modifying their approach to making sushi ALL AROUND. Fresh ingredients never hurt anyone. High end prices for low end sushi. read more

I had heard there was a Ninja Sushi place around but hadn't seen it in town so had no idea. I finally looked it up on google maps and found that it was way back in the big parking lot next to the Don Quixote store (which I'm still not sure what they sell). But anyway, the sushi here is great esp for a take out sushi place. They have made up a bunch of different kinds of rolls all delicious. The other day I got the Dragon Roll, Tiger Roll and California Rolls. They were all yummy. Even the california roll which is pretty standard was better here than I've had at other places. The tiger roll, I think was basically a CA roll with spicy tuna on top. The spicy tuna was tasty... not too hot but still good. The Dragon Roll was topped with avocado and eel. I would recommend all of these and am looking forward to trying others. read more

I love Ninja! Their sushi tastes so much fresher and just better than a lot of other places around. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. They don't try to be something they aren't, the layout is simple, they don't have a lot of seating but they're nice and have quality food. Some of my favs from Ninja are the spicy ahi, superman and tiger maki. I do sometimes cheat and just eat one of the kids plates with the chicken. The bento boxes are awesome too even though it's like two meals for me! Their inari is delicious too. Ooh, and they have AZ tea too. I'm always satisfied with their service and food. Reference the scallops in the tempura rolls; it says vegetable tempura not vegetarian tempura. It isn't their problem you assumed wrong. read more

Go with the Poke. As much as I hate to admit it, I return to this place weekly. Lately, I've been routinely craving sushi on Sunday's after being at the beach and/or yoga. Instead of going home to shower and change before fulfilling my sushi needs I come here where fast food meets raw fish. I have no qualms about showing up to Ninja stinky, sweaty, or salty. To me Ninja is just OK. I've been 3 or 4 times and usually go after the Tempura Donburi and something small on the side. The Tempura Donburi has been good to me every time except for once when it seemed pretty soggy. I also think the other pieces that I've had are outdone by Genki's pieces. Some one mentioned that the menu is full of pictures which is very nice if you want to try something new. The employee's are also very nice and helpful so no complaints there. Seating is limited but I always get mine to go. Try this place if you want but I prefer Genki. read more

I live around the corner and have tried to go twice before, bit they were closed during their advertised hours. I got lucky tonite, but apparently cuz its a Saturday night in a holiday weekend, they decided to close early and I was the last customer. She threw my sushi together so fast it looks like baby mush, i had to ask for soy sauce packets as I was shuffled out the door and I get home to find NO wasabi. Come on!!! The food wasn't bad, sure, but I wouldn't come back. The Ninja Sushi in Windward mall is better by far. However the wait was short and the service was polite. The food just wasn't amazing. I ordered a vegetable tempura maki mono, and the vegetables weren't fried into a tempura like that should've been. Instead, it seemed like they just rolled up vegetables and drizzled sauce on it. I used to work I kailua, lunch time at ninja sushi always made my days with the way aunty prepares her fresh nigiri. Salmon combo and the temaki is by far my favorite dishes to grab anytime I go. Inconsistency in the service and quality of food is the reason I am writing this review. The food is noticeably of less quality than the Ninja Sushi in Kaneohe, this particular location is closest to my home(kailua) so I am subjected to dealing with the up and down quality of sushi and at times-poor service. Food Quality- now, let me be the first to openly tell you that I am not a picky person, nor am I hard to please when eating out. This sushi has some decent points but unfortunately, the sushi at the Kailua location is often lacking in flavor or drenched in sauce or stale Nori and awesome cuts of fish or stale rice or stale extras, I.E., taro strips, rice puffs, etc.. They usually are very stale. There have been times where I thought the sushi itself was great,just stale extras or just too much sauce. But basically if those extra are on the poor side, it affects your sushi as a whole, so, yes, the sushi is overall poor quality at this location and would highly recommend the Kaneohe location over this location. Poor Service- occasionally I will get some young guy in there taking my order in person or over the phone. I have noticed that when my order is not taken by the older Asian lady, the order is either incorrect or takes forever. Nothing personal, but the young man just is not that professional and lacks the consideration of the customers for which he is serving. Even extending a simple "sorry it took so long" or "thank you for waiting" would help his case immensely, but he appears to not have any empathy or concern for the customer who called in an order 30 mins ago that he had forgot to put on the counter for the chef to see and begin making until I literally asked him, "is my order even being made?". He responded with, "oh, yeah. Here's the ticket". Grabbing it and then handing it to the arm of whoever is back there preparing the overpriced sushi. That's it, I'm done venting. read more

I always get the same thing for my family - dragon maki, spicy ahi maki, philly maki, cucumber maki and 5 pc inari cone sushi. Closes at 7:00pm on Sundays now. I don't think that they are ordering/buying yellowtail anymore. Our favorite rolls are: Superman (its got a kick!), Sunset, Dynamite Maki. Kids love the udon here. My son is picky and he says this is his favorite! I like the flavors of their dishes... some tend to have "strong flavors" but I like stronger flavors. In a way it's almost as if you can't eat too much of it or you might not feel good. But they don't give you so much that you do feel this way! The worst Ninja Sushi branch on the island. Every time I walk into this restaurant the fishy smell is overwhelming. In other branches I never/rarely smell the fish. The last time I was in here it look the woman 5 minutes to even acknowledge my presence although I was the only customer in the store. I guess whatever was on her comouter was more important. I didn't mind it at first because I was going over the menu. She told me to let her know when I was ready. I let her know, twice no answer. A couple minutes later I was ready to walk out but then she finally stood up and acknowledged me. I ordered a T-dragon maki with no unagi. Super simple. I've ordered it a few times at other Ninja Sushi branches with no problems. Usually they'll give me extra avocado on my roll instead. Once my order is ready she calls me up, I grab my food, and leave. It wasn't until after I already got home that I realized I didn't have shoyu, or wasabi (items that other branches always give you without having to ask) AND there was unagi on my maki roll when I asked for none. It only had one small piece of avocado. The shrimp tempura inside my roll was completely soggy as well. Last time I went to this Ninja Sushi the spicy ahi roll I ordered had wayyy too much mayo on it and the tiger maki fell apart really easily. I most likely will not return. This was the worse sushi place I've ever been to. Definitely gives Ninja Sushi a bad name! This place is dirty, like grimy gross. I had to wipe down the high chair and it was disgusting; like it was never cleaned, ever (I would have left but we were just so hungry!). And then the lady gives us a really dirty spoon (pic). OK, am I a snob or did I just order the wrong things? Why is everyone giving this place decent reviews? We ordered hamachi, salmon, and tuna nigiri and a roll or two. BEWARE!!! The owner's son pushed me after I notified him that I received the wrong order and wanting to either change it or get a refund. He was cussing in Korean thinking I would not comprehend the language. All witnesses / customers were apalled by his actions to include his parents on site. Lived in Kailua for 3 years, and hit this place up weekly. Great quality sushi for a great price. I came back to visit Hawaii for a week when I was pregnant, and could not resist getting a Superman role... yep... I was willing to risk my fetus for a Superman role.
