The neighborhood store that feels so small for an appropriate costumer service. It is sad to say that I'm taking my business elsewhere because it will mean quality costumer service. I just brought a paint that I bought there the last day of September because it was solid and the cashiers just shrugged and mentioned that the cause was that my basement was too cold and it messed with it. I have all of the left over paints in my basement, the ones that I have bought from Home Depot and after years of having them in there I can easily access them and never experienced any problems with it. It is not only the fact that I had to buy another paint, it was the feeling of not even an interest to figure it out with me. The first time I came in here, the awkward store layout immediately threw me off and I expected to be unable to get anyone's attention or find what I was looking for. On the contrary, someone immediately asked what I needed, copied a key for me in what seemed like 7.3 seconds, and I was on my way. The next time someone immediately asked what I needed, pointed me down the right aisle, then when I needed help removing it from the shelf, someone else happened upon me and quickly removed it. It seems I am in this store at least once a week...........usually for a quick fix it project. Sometimes I need a piece of scrap wood.....or a hole drilled in something and they do it free of charge. Last week I went in with a big bike kick stand.........it was attached to my bike with a rivit and just snapped off.........I went in seeing if they could help knock the rest of the rivit out so I could replace it with a bolt..........they spent a good ten minutes...finally drilling out the old screw.....I bought a new bolt, washer, and nut for $1.05 maybe........they did all this work for free..........Why would I ever go to Home Depot? Shop local - I agree with this concept. Unfortunately some businesses try very hard to get neighborhood customers to drive a bit longer to the big box chain stores. This is the case with Ninth Ave Hardware. It takes a lot for me to write a bad review ... but it is earned in this case. I don't expect to be greeted with a smile or even for someone to go out of they way to be polite. But when the associates go out of their way to be rude, and ignore the customers ... that is when it is time to no longer shop at their establishment. A note to the owner or manager of Ninth Avenue Hardware. Probably best to keep you associated Todd in the back away from customers. Todd (standing behind the checkout counter) was too busy texting on his phone and chatting with other associates to even acknowledge me waiting at the counter to check out. After waiting several minutes being ignored (I was next in line - at the counter), he looked up and just walked away without acknowledging me or telling someone would be with me. I had to stand at the counter and wait for another associate who also ignored me. Another customer came to the counter and waited, and finally they said "who is next". Are you kidding me? I was ready to give you money ... never again. Small local shops have one advantage over larger chains ... and that is customer service. read more

I bought a Dremel in a hurry at my local ace hardware.... this one. When I got to the job I needed it for (specific to that job) and opened the box, there was no Tool. ???, first thing that came to mind was. They sold me the display box, the tool is attached to the wall. So...I stop in to return the box, ( I ended up using a file for the job and about 3 extra hours of work.) Not Real Happy...I although walked in with zero attitude, I literally said ( about 5 times according to the worker) look I get, it was a simple error, it cost me hundreds of dollars, still a simple error. Well. The douche behind the counter started getting an attitude, basically accusing me of doing something crooked. I remained calm, and told him that I was the customer and he should just do his job ( customer service)?? He started trying to menace me, speaking down to me, and coming around the counter to try to intimidate me, more menacing. I eventually got my money back. BUT THE WORKER FOLLOWED ME OUT OF THE STORE WITH A TASER IN HAND THREATENING ME, MENACING ME. I CALLED THE POLICE ON HIM. They wanted to know why I didn't press charges. Well it's because he will do himself in. IF HE STILL WORKS AT THIS STORE, THEN YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WAITING TO HAPPEN. HES THE ONE THAT LOOKS LIKE A SCUMBAG, Brown hair, brown eyes, 5' 10", skinny scumbag... AND IS MISSING TEETH. ???? I WILL NOT EVER RETURN TO YOUR STORE. Despite the corporate label, this franchise manages to keep a very local feel. The selection and prices are surprisingly good and the staff are very helpful. Plus, it's a relief not to have to go all the way over to Alameda/I-25 to Home Depot just for a box of damn wood screws. Good neighborhood hardware store. read more

These guys are assholes. Definitely not the same friendly customer service that I've experienced since 1987. It's no longer friendly. No longer gay friendly. No longer helpful. They're just a bunch of assholes, much like every single Home Depot in this city. You're better off dealing with the assholes at Home Depot. At least their prices are a fraction of what used to be a great hardware store at 9th & Corona. Since the review below, I've been back several times b/c it's closer than Home Depot and also feels more manageable. I love how helpful the staff are (esp after I explain how unhandy I am). So far, the projects they've helped me with: 1) license plate screws/bolts for my scooter. the gentleman sat there in front of the wall of screw/bolt choices to match what I needed. 2) kitchen faucet repair: my kitchen faucet head snapped off. They sold me a replacement, telling me it was universal. I asked what would happen if it didn't work for me. NP, bring it back and we'll refund it. (which is what happened. luckily, kohler was able to send me a replacement FOR FREE). Still, I appreciate their attempt to help me. 3) acquisition of tools: I ordered some chairs that needed assembly and needed a rubber mallet. Walk in, ask for one, and the guys behind the counter pull one out of the sale bin for me. DONE. free street parking is always available when I go, I can usually get in and out in under 10 minutes, and someone there is always eager to help. What more can an unhandy gal ask for? previous review: Stars for being well stocked, local/close to my home, and friendly. I've come here twice and I am NOT a handy gal. I don't even like hanging up pictures and I've been known to mess up changing a light bulb. The first visit, I needed a key cut. About $2 and five minutes later, i walked out a happy customer. Second visit, I was hoping they had some plumbing stuff to help me fix a broken toilet lever (yes, I youtubed how to fix it). $10 instead of some horrendous bill from a plumber. Very friendly staff, tons of stuff crammed from floor to ceiling, reminds me of the family hardware stores I used to visit with my Dad as a kid. Like an idiot, I just wasted three trips out to a Lowe's before realizing the error of my ways and making a beeline for Ace. Can't go in the store with a backpack or bag. So if you take anything but a car to the shop you cannot go in without leaving your bag at the front? If you have problems with theft maybe you should address that rather than punish those of us who do not travel by car. What would effect you worse. I frequent this location quite often. Recently I purchased a cordless circular saw. None in stock...just the display unit. They sold me the display unit. Unknowingly the battery was not included with my purchase. Also after returning to Ace to purchase a battery,...which should have been included with purchase. I found an battery for $30, a charger for an additional $60. The clerk in which I had spoke to was unfamiliar to me. Not in uniform, and definately not an informed employee of this store. The display saw was $35. I paid $54. Not happy with my 9th Ave. Ace Hardware. Rewards Member or not. Which only means your purchases are monitered by an board of directors. Giving coupons on future purchase with expiration dates which never coincide with your average needs. I once loved this store. Now I despise it. Mostly I go in knowing what I want, so it's a matter of asking the staff about the layout of the store. I have been to this Ace Hardware a couple of times for small household items. Most recently, I did not have a good experience. I am installing a bike rack and needed a magnetic nut driver bit for my impact. When explaining what I needed and that I was using an impact driver, "Dean" says that impacts are only for working on cars. He showed me to the sockets, but that's not what I wanted. I think he thought that I meant an impact wrench, but he had no idea what a nut driver bit was. I work in the power tool industry and he treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about. He was very rude to my fiancé and I. like to support the little guys, but you are better off going to Home Depot for better prices and better service. read more

I've been prepping to sell my home during the pandemic, so I've had to make a few hardware store trips, which I dread. Ace on 9th isn't a big store, aisles are narrow, etc., so you'd think that it'd be a more stressful shopping experience than a big box. In fact, I found it the other way around. Staff started wearing face masks and being cautious about physical distance before (like weeks before) the big boxes were taking safety measures, so I appreciate that the store seems to take safety seriously. At one point I needed a specific tool (window screen spline tool, like $5), so I called ahead to see if they had it so I wouldn't make an unnecessary trip. Employee not only checked to see if it was in stock, but set it aside at the counter for me. Staff aren't typically approaching customers proactively and asking if you're finding everything (I actually appreciate being left alone, especially during a pandemic), but they've been polite and responsive when I flagged someone down with a "where is" question, even though working any kind of retail is immensely stressful right now. Also, back in March they had these big metal jugs of isopropyl alcohol right up front for under $15... I'm sure they're sold out now, but that's been my most useful impulse buy item during our new dystopian reality! read more

I wish I caught his name, but we were greeted in a friendly manner, he helped us find the mis-tinted paint we needed and then he offered to shake/mix it and provided us with complimentary stir sticks and can opener. STAY AWAY WOMEN. While checking out today, the cashier began straightening out my dollars while I pulled some change. He asked if they were so wrinkled because they were tips. I politely smiled. He then asked "Is it from stuffing in someone's underwear?" I was so startled I handed him my change, grabbed my product and immediately left the store. I contacted customer service who agreed the comment crossed the line and that the matter will be addressed with the store owner. Unfortunately, I have always had positive experiences at this location; the sales associates have been helpful. While I love my Ace Hardware store in Congress Park, this location is the best to have any odd key duplicated right away. Customer service was also excellent at this location though this store is definitely busier and the wait time can be a bit longer. The clerks now could care less about helping you with anything! They all stand behind the counter now talking about thier little lives and grab assing then any inclination of helping the customer! I started my morning at Home Depot trying to tackle a house hold chore... I left Home Depot because of their total lack of service and knowledge. I ended up going to ace on alameda and I had the most helpful person attend to me and it was so refreshing. As some of these projects can go I needed two stops at the hardware store to complete my stuff so I went to the one in cap hill and again was helped by a super friendly and knowledgable staff member and everything was cool. Just based on service alone I highly recommend any ace location over pretty much anywhere else in Denver. They really made a believer out of me today. Thank you again ace. read more
