Place: This place is pretty big and I want to say pretty recent. It is pretty clean and I just walked in and did not have to wait too long. The ambience is asian. Service: The service was good. Food $$: I did a fun solo trip and just tried a new place on my own. Since I have this night shift I have so much time on my hands so I thought it would be fun to do a lunch date on my own. I got some appetizers and handrolls. I think I would stick with the hot foods like the crab rangoon. The next time I come here I will try different entrees. Audience: Solo Trip [X] 21+ [ ] Family Friendly [X] Friends [X] Date Spot [X] Recommendations/tips: Worth trying out!

Shrimp Tempura, Rainbow, Dragon, Spider - 9/10

Very fresh and great tasting rolls, I had the Shrimp Tempura, Rainbow, Dragon, and Spider rolls and all were fantastic!! The place is very clean and the staff very friendly. The service could be a little quicker but worth the wait. It's across from Carl's Golfland, so bonus there!

TL;DR: I will not be returning to Nippon again after the long, bizarre, and frustrating saga I went through this weekend. The only reason why I am not giving them 1 star is because they are refunding me for my entire order since they messed up so bad. (I am still waiting on the refund and will update my review if there are any additional troubles in getting the refund.) I haven't come here in a couple years, but it used to be really good. There were a lot of rolls on the menu that always interested me and I had tried my fair share of them back in the day. Recently, I had a craving for sushi (I sort of always have a craving for sushi) and was in the area, so I thought - why not place an order from Nippon? Haven't been there in so long! So I placed an order online, and my troubles began. The online ordering system is a pain and not user friendly. Once you add a roll, there's no way of removing it unless you just wanted to start all over again. There also was a lot of scrolling involved. As I was looking through the entire menu, I noticed that a lot of my old favorites were no longer on the menu. I picked a few that sounded good, and because the online interface was so cumbersome, I was a bit nervous even after placing the order, so I called the restaurant to confirm that they had received my order. They said they did and that it would be ready in 30-40 minutes, which was great because Nippon is located around every store imaginable, so I had plenty of places to run errands to kill the time! 40 minutes later with my errands completed, I was at Nippon and I called again to confirm that my order was ready before I went into the store to pick it up (they do not have curbside pickup as an option). When I called, the person said that they didn't have my order and put me on hold to figure it out. He came back and said that apparently they had lost my order and just now found it and would rush to make it and that it would take another 20-30 minutes! Well...that was a bit annoying! My concerns had been validated, the online ordering system did feel very flawed, and my order had been lost despite me calling 40 minutes ago and them confirming that they had received my order. Now with all my errands completed, I had no choice but to sit there in the parking lot for another 30 minutes waiting for them to make my order. After 30 minutes, I called again and they said they were packing up my order, so I went in to sign my receipt and pick up my order. I drove the 20 minutes back to my house, tired & famished after a long day, and as I was walking in my door, I got a call from Nippon... They said they had just received another ticket under my name with the same exact order and somehow through that were thinking that they had given me the wrong order. Logically, I don't understand how this makes sense. What order ticket were they looking at and going off in all my calls to them when I gave them my FULL name if they now thought that they had made my order wrong! I set down my stuff, opened up the bag with my sushi in it, and lo and behold it was wrong. I had ordered 5 rolls, there were only 4. Of the 4, 3 were not what I had ordered. Oy vey! Nippon asked if I wanted to come back and grab my "actual" order because they were willing to make it, but I said no because this entire process ended up taking an hour longer than I had anticipated and with the 20 minute drive there and back again, it just wouldn't be worth it! I also don't understand what was going on with their online ordering system that my order, which was placed at 6:30 pm, did not show up in their system until 8:30 pm and what order they had confirmed me for prior..... The cherry on top of all of this was that I still tried the sushi and it was extremely disappointing not just for the fact that it wasn't what I had ordered, but because I eat a lot of sushi, and could tell that this was not good sushi. The ingredients were not the freshest, the portions were small, the protein they put into the meats were skimp, and all in all, not at all how I remembered my Nippon experiences going back in the day. They must've changed owners or chefs or something because it was a complete 180 from my experiences in years past.

Overpriced. Small rolls, about double the price of Noble Fish in Clawson. Flavors are good but just way too small. Service for take out is good.

This sushi was delicious and so fresh tasting. The Alaska roll had such great flavors, the Rainbow roll tasted like it was caught this morning, the Volcano Shrimp Tempura was fantastic with all the different flavors. I will most definitely be coming here again soon!

"King Crab" Roll

I ordered the King Crab Roll and a side of Ponzu. There were several things missing but the biggest was the King Crab in the sushi! I expected it to be whole but was, I can't even call it flakes, slivers of crab? This was a to go order that I ate in my car before my next meeting and I had to ask for chopsticks, ordered and received my side of Ponzu but there was no soy sauce or napkins in the brown paper bag that it was in! Eating just a minuscule piece of the pickled ginger or dipping it in the ponzu sauce obliterated what little taste of "King Crab" that there was! For $15 (sushi and ponzu) I certainly expected more!

Small sushi bar and restaurant. It's on the northeast side of telegraph and square lake road. I ordered the salmon teriyaki entree since the house special for the bento box was gyoza and they were out of sweet potato tempura today. I ordered a small side salad for my hubby, since my salmon comes with miso soup and a side salad. They have the pink ginger here, not my favorite. The cream cheese is an extra $1 and the green onion is an extra $.50 per roll add. Order came to $55.65. The salmon teriyaki became a bit congealed from the drive home, the salmon was a bit over cooked, but didn't taste too bad. The ginger side salad was good, miso was as expected. The Cali rolls were good, though I don't think it was $1 and $0.50 worth for the cream cheese and the green onions in each roll. Food overall wasn't bad, but nothing impressed me as being special enough to return.

Traditional King Crab Roll and Tamago Nigiri

This is the best sushi in all of Oakland county and the only one I'll eat at. Every time I venture out to try another venue, I am always disappointed. The service and speed are average, but the quality of the rolls are tip top. This is one of the only restaurants with real crab, too. Don't eat sushi anywhere else, unless you want grocery-store quality rolls Order: Philadelphia roll (flash fried add $2) King crab roll Tamago nigiri

Great little place for a bento box! We dined in for lunch, love the soup, great amount of food. I also tried some gyoza, it was good. I had a cute cocktail and we left full and happy. I'm a fan!

I've really enjoyed having a great sushi, Bibimbap restaurant close to the house. They offer all of our favorites, like katsu chicken and udon bowls. I like their sushi selection. It always tastes fresh. The bibimbap chicken is always marinated right and is made very well. The staff is always pleasant, attentive, and accommodating. We can't go wrong coming here on a Friday night after a long work week. We tried their tempura shrimp and vegetables for the first time with an udon order, we got it on the side. It was super delicious, made just right! I really enjoyed it. I'm also happy they brought back their happy hour specials. They disappeared for a while. I wasn't able to go to happy hour this time, but I hope to go soon. The only criticism I have it that some of the prices are a bit high. Seems they've raised them a bit recently. I wish they had a smaller udon for a bit less as a side soup for people having a bigger meal.

$12 Super Godzilla. Not sure where the "super" comes in..maybe super disappointing.

I have a love/ hate relationship with this place. The service ranges from awful to acceptable. I stopped ordering to go because they never get it right. Most of the time they are very short staffed. Thregood however is almost always good. Nine of us decided to come here for lunch to celebrate a coworkers birthday. We arrived at noon. At 12:30 I asked the hostess if they can please take our orders, at that point we sat for 30 mins without so much as a hello. SO a fun game of when will we get our food ensued. See screenshot below. The person that guessed 1:15 won. One person ended up going to Potbellys because her chicken teriyaki was so dry she couldnt eat it. Our waitress was so overwhelmed she couldnt be flagged down and definitely didnt check in. Once they took our orders things did improve. We got salads and soups. Most of the food was great...but I would never choose to come here and definitely not on a lunch break.

We were promptly seated just after the happy hour began and there were some tables taken up already. Service was excellent. Very attentive and helpful. We ordered the ribs, fried chicken bites, and then each of the happy hour sushi rolls. The stars of the show were the ribs and fried chicken. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. They weren't too sugary either, but definitely had some sweet to them. I'm not a huge rib guy, but these were special. The fried chicken was equally delicious. It came with a sauce that was very good too. Would go back just for those two items. The sushi was good, but not the best I've had. My favorite was probably the shrimp tempura roll. Spicy tuna roll was pretty good as well. Because of how good the ribs/chicken were, this gets a 5 star. The happy hour pricing was very reasonable. Normal pricing a bit rough.

It really added to the whole experience. For starters, we shared the hamachi and crispy rice, both of which were fresh and delicious. For mains, we got the pork ribs and the chicken fried rice, and honestly, the fried rice was a highlight. The panko-crusted chicken pieces in it were such a clever touch. The ribs could use additional flavor (think more ginger-soy). I also loved the cucumber mocktail, which was so refreshing and a great option if you're not drinking. Guy behind the counter is working by himself, that's that's OK since there's nobody really here. I got the large bowl, build my own. Give me four scoops of protein. I got the crab salad and tofu, two scoops of each. I added arugula, onions, edamame, crispy garlic, grape eggs, quinoa, she talking mushrooms, cucumbers, scallions and red onions. I added the Sriracha citrus dressing. I got brown rice as my base. I feel like there should be some pepper and maybe carrots as other possible options. This bowl is not cheap and even the large ball is not much bigger than us mobile. The small bowl only gives you two scoops of protein. That's an interesting combination in the mall. It's different, not sure if I love it though. I have had better Poke bowls at the Troy one, this one seems bland and boring and lack luster. Sauces are just average. Nothing has much kick or umph to it at all. Some kimchi or cabbage would be a good add too. I am done with trying it, saving the rest for my husband. Can't eat anymore. It needs more flavor for me to eat it all, it's lacking.
