Got a haircut with Arielle, and I had a great all-around experience at the salon. I came to her with an idea, and she brought it to life, even better than expected. I also told her I have a sensitive scalp, and she made a plan for the appointment and cleared every product used with me first. All the products used during my appointment were great and did not dry my scalp out at all, and left my hair feeling very soft and healthy. I had a bizarre experience here with a Groupon for Tiffany. While I ended up getting a decent haircut (not great), I had a very unpleasant experience and felt very disrespected. I showed the stylist 2 images of what I wanted (both a couple inches longer than what I ended up getting) and asked for "collar bone length". Tiffany took my words very literally and when I mentioned that I thought we shouldn't cut any more in the front she FLIPPED OUT on me and told me that she had already given me a much shorter cut in the back and that now there is "nothing for her to cut". We went back and forth trying to agree on a length all the while clearly not understanding each other and her being apparently short/angry with me. I asked the stylist for her opinion (as she is the expert) as to whether we should go a little shorter in the front to achieve a slight "a-line lob" because obviously i couldn't see the back but she wouldn't give me her opinion. Furthermore, if the stylist thought that the length in the photo shown and my directions were contradictory, I would expect her to ask me to clarify. In the past, my stylists have been vocal about asking me about the desired length and showing me where the hair would hit on my body -- this was not the case here. Quite frankly, I wouldn't have been as upset about the stylist cutting off too much because hair grows, life goes on had she not been so aggressive about it. What really troubled me was my stylist's tone and apparent frustration. I was taken aback by my her lack of communication skills as I don't feel like lashing out at clients (even if they are confusing or wrong) is ever acceptable. I was upset and embarrassed by how I was treated- I even noticed the stylists and clients next to us staring intently. I wanted so badly to just get up and leave but I had to finish the haircut so I just sat in that chair dreadfully waiting for this nightmarish appointment to be over. Not sure what I did to upset my stylist so much but luckily for her, she won't have to ever see me again. Bottom Line: Given the price range of the salon, I was expecting to feel pampered. Instead, the experience was hectic and upsetting. I would not recommend this experience even at a discounted rate. read more

Tiffany colored my hair and she was awesome. My color has last throughout the three weeks and more so it still looks rich and healthy. She was also a great conversationalist. I had fun chatting with her. The added herbal oil or silk treatment left my hair feeling soft and smelling great. Im usually a go five / six months without coloring type of girl but after meeting her, I think I'll have to make this a regular thing. I am always hesitant trying a new hair salon. My daughter, KT C, trired this salon and had great reviews. I figured if it passed her critique that I would give it a try. I was not only impressed with the eco-friendly environment of the salon. I was equally impressed with the manner in which the hair stylist, Jessica, LISTENED to what I ACTUALLY wanted to see accomplished with my hair style. My hair had been done six months earlier by someone in Santa Cruz. It was the worst hatchett job I have ever had in my life. Seriously, a hatchett job. It took six months to grow out enough for someone to try and do something with it to make it manageable. Jessica accomplished just that. I was amazed how QUICKLY she was able to refine the haircut to a more presentable appearance. She also was able to give my hair depth and definition. Went to see Janis last night and she's still amazing! I was in dire need of a haircut after my mom cut off 6 inches and it was just straight and boring. My hair is EXTREMELY thick and Janis is the master of thick long layers. She made me look fantastic. She really takes the time to make sure your cut is perfect. Nirvana salon should be closed and have their Aveda stamp removed for the damage they did to my hair. It has taken me years to get up the courage to write this review, because of how bad an experience it was.... How I found Nirvana: My sister saw Kelly a few times before she recommended her to me. She obviously did not ruin my sister's hair otherwise I would not have booked an appointment. In hindsight I think Kelly did/does not know how to do "blonde" hair which is quite a problem. I saw Kelly in December of 2014. Pre Nirvana: I saw a stylist in the midwest (where I am from), and got touch ups here in the Bay Area, but the person doing my touch ups moved, so I decided to look for someone permanent here since I was not traveling home as often. Nirvana Visit: I came into the appointment with a photo of what I wanted color wise. (see below) She took a before photo and then began to color. I didn't notice anything was off until she started to blow dry my hair. I should have known something was wrong at that moment since another stylist just stared at me the whole time. When she was finished I was in such a state of shock I didn't even realize how bad it was. I paid ($350), got to my car, looked in the mirror and burst into tears. I didn't know what to do... I have never had this happen before. After crying and calling my Mom I decided to call the salon and explain that I was not happy. I left a message as it was late Saturday. I got a call back Sunday to come in Monday (I refused to go to work looking like I did). I went into the salon everyone acted like normal. Kelly just said yeah it is a little yellow. (No amount of purple shampoo could EVER fix this "yellow"- see photo below) I didn't know what to do or say since I just wanted her to fix it. I was nice since my hair was literally in her hands. She "fixed" it... if you could call it that. At that point I knew that nothing else could be done. I would have to wait for a real professional. Saying she ruined my hair would not be dramatic at all since the look, feel, and breakage was detrimental. Post Nirvana: I waited about 6 months before I let someone touch my hair again. I traveled back home to the mid-west where I knew I could trust the stylist I had seen for years. (The salon is also an Aveda Concept Salon) She had to do a chemical cut, chop my hair off due to the extensive damage. Even after getting it done properly the previous color had still taken its toll. Overall: I know some will say that one stylist is not a reflection of the entire salon, but when something this bad happens it truly is.... I would NEVER EVER go to this salon again. I live in town and walk downtown weekly, see their sign, it is a constant reminder and makes me sad they are still in business. I hope this review helps you, and stops you from making the mistake I did. I now see Jamie over at B society by the high school. However, each time they asked about the name change they promoted the business/ their work, while not truly focusing on the issue at hand. It's okay to say "Hey WOW, we really messed up! etc..." I would have respected that. Owning a mess up as a business owner is hard, but the right thing to do. I would think that someone that styles hair for a living would get how deeply this hurt. Your hair is the accessory you wear EVRY SINGLE DAY... Imagine wearing this hair. I get it was not either of their fault directly, but as a salon owner you are responsible for the people you employ as you allow them to work there and represent your business. I still feel the same as I did in my original post, and the proof is in the pictures. Regardless of how long a salon has been around no one should let someone leave with hair like I had period. read more

Lives up to the expectations of an Aveda salon. This DOES MEAN that it's expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. A month before I came here, I had the GENIUS idea to bleach my own hair. I came to Nirvana to have it corrected, and Nicole did a gorgeous job. She evened out the color, got it to what I had originally planned, and did her very best to make sure it wasn't totally dried out. She was wonderful, and I had a fantastic time! I have been going to NIrvana for a long time. Lauré is a master at what she does. Many people can do hairstyling but Lauré is an artist at it. When I've been out, people I don't know have stopped me to ask where I had my hair done. Whenever visiting family need any kind of hairstyling I always take them there though appointments could be difficult to get. The shop always looks fresh with new displays and new products. Appointments are always adhered to. During this Covid time I don't know what more could be done to make the Nirvana experience safer with the use of hand sanitizers, masks, distancing, station sanitizing, etc., etc. . Lauré does a lovely blowout. Appointments here run on time, every service starts with a relaxing aromatherapy head massage, all products are cruelty-free, their shampoo bowls DON'T HURT YOUR NECK (cue shock and awe) and the actual blowout was goooood. They have some set styles of blowouts listed on the site, if you want to schedule online, but you can also just ask in person when you schedule or show up for your appointment. I wanted beachy waves, and she did them well. So well, they lasted for two solid days after -- which is rare with my hair type. She also offered to touch up my makeup after, which was kind. Two thumbs up. As a side note, I'm not sure what kind of Super Cuts nonsense some of the other reviewers are used to -- but prices here are reasonable for the area. read more

I tried this salon for the first time this week because I had a gift certificate from Groupon. It is a small salon but the service and the people were pleasant. And, as a first-time customer, I received a complimentary moisturizing hair treatment (valued around $20). I was happy until they told me the total for my hair coloring (one color) was $90 after my $65 gift certificate. That means I was getting charged for $155 for the exact same hair coloring (also from a senior stylist) that always costs me no more than $105 at Atelier Aveda in Santana Row (where I've been going for the last 3 years)! Now either they have exorbitant prices for their service (although their website quotes hair coloring only at $60 and up) or they overcharged me to compensate for the groupon discount they gave out. Either way, it's bad. It's a good thing that the service was good and that I got a small freebie, otherwise I would have felt completely jibbed. read more

I scheduled my appointment for the rainiest day of the year. Aveda's entrance is not on the street, and somehow through my confusion in the darkness and rain I ended up in a parking spot a few feet away from the main door. The receptionist offered me coffee and wine while I waited, I opted for water. There's a bench beside the front door, albeit just big enough for two very fit people to sit next to each other. The coat closet on the left hides the bathroom. Raymond is my new stylist and Raymond is awesome. My experience started with a chat with Raymond and then I was off to the washing station. The protege was the one to wash my hair- he was very thorough and made me feel relaxed. Raymond spent a good hour and a half with me; cutting my hair and teaching me how to style it for work and for nights out. He has a great personality and is very good at what he does. read more

I've been desperately looking for a stylist since moving to the bay 2 years ago from So Cal. I used get my hair done in Santa Monica and having to keep going back there from the Bay has been painful. My search ends here after finding Raymond at Nirvana Aveda. My (short) haircut by Raymond was done so well that I hardly have to style it. I can just wash, dry and go. Or, on days I feel like spending time styling, I just straight iron the ends which only takes a few minutes. I told him I would like my fringe cut in a way so I can part it either left or right side and he's did an excellent job on that! Oh, and he offers complimentary fringe cuts which makes a huge difference for me since my hair grows out fast. I was lucky enough to get scheduled with Raymond a week or so in advanced as I heard he gets pretty booked (I see why). The salon is very small, but cute and clean. read more

This is a cute and hip salon. The staff is sweet and friendly and the atmosphere is calm yet fun. Now to my stylist.... I LOVE Raymond!!!! A few months ago my hair was dry and damaged. Now thanks to his cut and styling my hair looks great. He picked a great color that compliments my skin tone and gave me a great cut. He helped me pick products that give bounce to my curls and gave me tips to style it at home. I get so many compliments at work. I tried this place with a Groupon. Called and they explained what I could get and gave me many different options. Usually places are really restrictive with groupons. I went on a weekday and the stylist was waiting for me, no wait, her name is Eileen, she sat with me for 10mins or so to talk about what i liked and didn't like done and what worked or wouldn't work for my face type. She was really nice and was obviously interested in listening to me. Then they sent me to get my hair washed, and got the best hair massage and hair treatment, then a hand massage while sitting for the hair treatment to absorb. They offered me something to drink, they had from water to wine. The salon is green and yes it's not big but I don't like big salons where you have be waiting and its more like a production line and not a personalized service. Eileen cut my hair very nicely, exactly as we had discussed, no bad surprises there! and then offered me advice on some products, NOT pushy, and i bought one of the products with a 15% discount that was part of the groupon deal. All in all for the $30 I paid I couldn't ask for more, and even for their regular prices with the service I got I'm definitely coming back to get my hair done there again. read more

Went last night- showed up for my appointment and when I said who I was there for they gave me a confused look and said Christine was sick and didn't I get a call? Nope definitely did not. They looked in the computer and somehow my appointment got cancelled. So, not only did it get cancelled, I had shown up and no one was there to do my hair. I do have to say that the women were really accomodating when I explained I was going across the country the next night- they found someone to do my hair. Overall, I was semi-satisfied. I borught in a picture and my hair really doesn't look anything like it and I am not ecstatic about the color. Also, last time my stylist was sick I received a $50 discount and this time there was no mention of it even after I had much more complication getting it rescheduled. read more

Raymond, Raymond, Raymond...I love me some Raymond. He knows exactly what to do with my hair every time. I seriously go over a week without washing my hair after I get it done because I don't want to destroy his masterpiece. I'm a mixed chick (Black and Mexican), so my hair isn't the easiest stuff in the world to tame. I have crazy curly hair that needs special love that Raymond always provides. He knows exactly how to cut my hair to give it extra body in all the right places and gets my curls jumping. He is also really good with color, and uses all Aveda products, which leave your hair looking and smelling great without the funky toxin smell that sometime comes with un-organic products. He is always booked, so I recommend scheduling in advance--he is definitely worth the wait...and don't forget to try the Aveda tea--it's sooooo good! read more

I was brought into Nirvana from a Amazon Local deal.."Blissful Blowout with a botanical treatment". I must admit, I've never had such a treatment done before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was not let down! I had my appointment with Kristi, and right off the bat she was kind and accommodating. She was very knowledgeable about the Aveda products and kindly explained to me what exactly my service that day entailed. It was basically a an hour of relaxation!! The botanical treatment was a deep conditioning that made my hair feel great, and smell even better. After that Kristi did something that I cannot seem to do for the life of me, make my stick straight hair STAY curly!! After the blow out, she proceeded to curl my hair, kind of a beachy wave. It stayed until the next day!! All in all I was thoroughly impressed from my first experience at Nirvana! 2 thumbs up to all the kind staff and especially Ms. Kristi for making my hair happy ;) read more
