I decided to save it for a review of my favorite restaurant since moving to the area from Miami, Florida: Willow Bend Country Club. I first came to Willow Bend for lunch in December when I first traveled to Van Wert. I ate lunch with people from the company during the interview/recruitment process and I was impressed by the service and the delicious food. The fact that I got a social membership as part of my joining the company was a perk and certainly a reason why I started working for the company I am in now. I easily could have seen myself coming here to eat... place is nice... classy, and again the food is delicious! I have come a few times since then, leaving it as a place for special occasions including for when I found out I got the house I am currently living at. The waitresses and bar tenders are always friendly. Just love this place. I have eaten various items on this menu, I will focus on my favorites that I've had: 1) Asian Boneless Wings. I love wings, it's one of my favorite things to eat... but I am not a fan of boneless wings. I am a traditionalist and a bit of a snob when it comes to this. These wings, though, I will make an exception for my dislike of boneless wings. These wings which are breaded and covered in a sweet and spicy hoisin oriental sauce... is perfect. It expertly blends spicy and sweet so much, I don't care if they are boneless. 2) Baked Potato Soup. I love this kind of soup, and this is one of the better versions I've had. Especially good during a cold day! 3) Peach-Apple Glazed Pork Chop Ribeye. Another exception to my normal rules of food. I like pork chops with bone... I had boneless. These chops are so juicy... it doesn't matter! It's a bit sweet... almost too sweet for my taste but it just straddles that line... I could eat this over and over 4) 12 oz. Texas Ribeye. This is a big steak! It's a delicious, hearty-cut ribeye with a dried pepper and coffee rub seasoning, char-grilled to perfection... i normally can't finish a 12 oz... I did when I came here! I just couldn't put down my fork! Honorable mention: bread... allegedly made out of veggies? Waiter and manager didn't know which... still that's pretty good... and the bread was warm and soft... and with some butter.... mmmmm! I also feel I should mention that yes there is a golf course attached to this... haven't played and don't know how so I can't opine on that. Moreover, they do have events. I haven't been to one but I may attend the next one since they are bringing a comic... surf and turf dinner included in price. Willow Bend therefore is a great place to both eat and have some fun! I am super happy I am a member of such a wonderful country club! Never saw myself ever becoming a country club guy... but life has a way of surprising you! If you are in the area, join!

They felt like a micro version of Ohio history connection, and daresay.... maybe even better in my opinion, if it were not just segmented to the area itself! You walk in, usually an old person is there to greet you at the front, the exhibits are free, except for one of the victorian houses next to the museum you can tour for a small fee. (We declined this trip) The museum has a lot of excellent exhibits... starting with the founders, their original covered wagon from the 1700s, and other locally celebrated families and events. EXCELLENT curation! The odd, but fascinating: *Someone's doll house replica of George Washington's Mount Vernon -- completed with furnishings, and figures (Takes up an entire room). *John Dillenger exhibit with death mask casting, and his original jail cell in Allen County... WITH a wax replicate of John. *A train -- INSIDE the museum *A fine collection of wagon/hearses *Restored animatronics with taxidermied animals from the late 1800's. Reminded me of the old nickelodeons that amazed and wow'd people from back in the day. The restoration was really amazing. I could go on, but I really hope you'd experience this gem of Northwest OH for yourself! It's really worth the time to stop and visit! Makes the historian in me all giddy just thinking about it!

Given Lima's modest size and relative lack of wealth, the Allen County Museum is impressively large…read moreand pretty amazing. It has enough oddities that it's worth a detour if you're heading up or down I-75 and have an hour or two to spare. I'll acknowledge that the sprawling space is largely filled with a lot of homespun local history that may not interest everyone: models of local grand homes that were demolished long ago, various old furnishings and carriages going back to Ohio's frontier days, many exhibits devoted to Lima's one-time prominence in locomotive manufacturing and as a major railroad hub, and a wall honoring LIma's famous and not-so-famour (Phyllis Diller, Hugh Downs, and a bunch of folks I'd never heard of). But there are at least a few exhibits that warrant the detour: First and foremost are the fascinating, bizarre, and rather macabre animated taxidermy spectacles created by local shoe salesman James Grosjean in the late 1800s and early 1900s. One is a ferris wheel with rotating animals but the craziest is the Noah's Ark exhibit with a recorded biblical narrative and music, the latter probably from the 1970s. The attendant on duty will likely be glad to start these machines up for you, if they're currently in working order. Second, there's a decent section devoted to John Dillinger's confinement in the local jail and his jailbreak, which was accomplished by the murder of the sheriff. Third, there's a Lima history exhibit with model trains, much like the excellent "Cincinnati in Motion" exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center, except that this Lima exhibit is about a tenth of the size. N.B. Apparently due to the sour economy, the museum's hours are limited. On the Tuesday we were there, it did not open until 1pm.

The attendent literally watched me put over $100 on top of other credits and the machine never credited them showed but one spin later gave me the last bet option while still showing $19 of credits!!!! This was on top of eating a $50 and a $20. I wrote my name and number down on a pad and was told the owner would get with me tom. No call all day show up at the arcade to be told the machine is fine and people were playing it all day and winning!!! I asked for a print out which all these games log and was told that these machines don't!!! It's bad enough when your luck is down but when a machine eats right at $200 and the owners won't make it right or do the right thing it's pretty slimy!!! My advice don't go at all and if you do don't put more than $20 at a time!!! That way when they deny the $20 they'll prob watch you put in and not get credited! You wont be out more than $20 It's bad when you have to deal with people of this caliber!!!! There's a reason they don't have a yelp revue until now I had to add it for them!!! This business started out by selling old and used cartridges for almost every (major) gaming console ever made. The owner has an enormous, almost unbelievable, selection of games you played, games you wish you had played, and some games that you've probably never heard of. What a trip down memory lane. Yeah, the owner had a nice little business selling game an outstanding variety of game console cartridges...and then he got bit by the pinball bug. So, in his store, he has 24 pinball machines, three cabaret style machines (Galaga, Centipede, Ms.Pac Man), two multigame machines (an iCade 60 gamer, and another that features about 100? vertical scrolling Japanese "maniac shooters..." if those are your thing. There's a Crazy Taxi game, too). The pins range in price from 12.5 cents per play (two credits for a quarter, arithmetic wiz), to a buck per play. Here's the key...every game that I played was in good or excellent condition! What an cool variety of games, he has. Newest game? Jurassic Park (2019) by Stern. Flagship game? Dialed In (2017) Limited Edition by Jersey Jack; that's a $9000 dollar machine. Mike P's favorite game? FirePower (1980) by Williams...25 cents per play...just like the machine at Little Cesar's Pizza on Suder Avenue...back in 1980. I discovered this hidden gem and was excited to be able to do the pumpkin patches again with my kids. They have a large and small pumpkin patch that both my kids loved doing, fun, commentated wagon ride, smore making down by the river, great deal on pumpkins from the patch, putt putt, food truck, goats, and tons more activities. I also added the round trip kayaking which topped it off. The family was very involved and engaged with the visitors and super sweet. You can tell they truly enjoy sharing their farm with the community and seeing the happiness on faces. Now that I know about this place and all they offer, more trips are in store and can't wait to see what they add next year.

The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society is located just outside of Fort Wayne in New Haven. My…read morefamily came to the historical society on December 2, 2023 for their annual Christmas Caboose trains. It certainly was an interesting experience. It's in a real train yard, and you have time before boarding to tour of the engine of a train and speak to people who have been engineers on a train. Truly fascinating. It was a cold day, thankfully they also had a food truck the sold coffee and hot chocolate available, i grabbed a coffee on the way out. They also had a gift shop available, it sold shirts, coffee mugs, carved wooden trains and other items. Once the train was ready, we got coach area and off we went. It was a small train ride, just 20 minutes. This train ride, also was really meant more for children. There was a santa who would go from passenger car to passenger car to great children. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who has children! The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical society also runs longer rides from other areas and they have interesting events. I would suggest you look at their website: https://fortwaynerailroad.org Again, although this was meant more for children and families with children, it was a fun experience and helped me think of a time where trains were the primary mode of long distance transportation in landlocked areas.
