Great place for tapas style dining. Always good when you sit down and get a rundown of a menu and then pick and choose plates to share. They had a duck confit special tonight that was so delicious, it came with a gravy, poached pears and mushrooms. My favorite dish was their foie gras , definitely a rich dish but is paired with some balsamic reductions and various jellies to cut on the richness of the fat. The anchovies were just the right amount of salty and fatty and paired well with the breads. The music was a vibe crossing genres and decades. And the dimly lit dining room caters well to a date night or just an intimate dining experience over a great selection of wines and great food.

Lovely and refreshing find - a truly authentic Spanish spot in downtown. The octopus carpaccio and artichoke appetizer were standouts, packed with flavor and beautifully done. Wine list full of Spanish gems that perfectly complement the food.

Food, service, ambiance, all perfect. This place is tucked away downtown and is such a hidden gem. Miami can be full of tourist trap restaurants that have a ton of high reviews for some reason, but this is NOT one of those places. The place is small and intimate with a menu that's not overwhelming at all. It was just me so I only got 2 dishes, but I wish I got to try the whole menu. The Branzino tartare stole the show - but that's not to say the Ous wasn't delicious as well. If you're in downtown miami, you have to check this place out.

We came here for a late dinner and we're pleasantly surprised! They had an extensive wine menu, we ordered a glass of Spanish wine which paired perfectly with delicious appetizers. We ordered the pan con tomate, gambas al ajillo and pulpo, all amazing. Although a little rough on the outside, the vibe when you step inside is sleek and energetic. Not to mention the attentiveness of the service was another plus! Hidden gem in downtown!

Five star food, service and ambiance. NIU has Catalan / Spanish tapas with exceptional execution. Hats off to the chef. Food comes out table side incredibly fresh and warm. Some even have finishing touches like the charcoal heating of the oysters, or shrimp flambé. Today's trial of the vegan paella was well executed, for your expectations it's not a typical hearty helping. Overall, while I felt the flavors overwhelmingly good, I did find the portions leaving me wanting more. Luckily you can keep ordering, though keep in mind this is a quality over quantity place. Definitely plan to return and recommend. Service was friendly, interactive, worked as a team and knowledgeable about the menu. They were good about asking on allergies and one request to separate the artichokes from the pork to make it shareable for the party. Thank you for the flexibility and care.

Catalan cuisine, yes please! Everything was delicious from the octopus to the gambas. But here's the thing. We ordered two tapas and the paella. Which is about tapas size too, for 2/3 people max. The two first tapas came Out in a timely manner. The wait for the paella was incredibly long. I prefer for the dishes to be timed out better and I know that paellas usually take longer but the gap was so long it killed our hunger. Perhaps if we would have ordered more tapas but still I'm taking like over an hour wait. We finished the entire bottle of wine. But once it arrived it was so divine. Just have this in mind when ordering the paella. Wanted a dessert but the time gap ruined it. Service was good. We had to sit outside because we didn't have reservations. Perhaps a reservation before would be good if you want to sit indoors.

Tried this spot for happy hour with friends! They were out of a few things on the menu that I would have wanted to order. We started with the pan con tomate which was good, the steak tartare which was also good. The service was ok, the food took a while & we kept having to ask to refill our waters. I ordered the octopus as my entree, but the server forgot it so it came way after everyone was done eating. It was tender & flavorful just not very filling so I ordered some meats and cheeses that were good but a little overpriced in my opinion. I feel like the dishes we had were good but nothing great and the service was not the best.

I will admit, NIU Kitchen didn't have a lot of competition, but it was hands down the best meal I had in Miami. It was also the most confusing restaurant to get to. My friend and I took an uber to NIU Kitchen and we were left at the NIU Kitchen wine bar which was closed. Upon further inspection, we saw a restaurant without signage but with the same awning as the NIU Kitchen wine bar and we were able to get seated on time. The ambiance is pretty casual with wooden tables and classroom chairs but the vibe is elevated by the artwork on the walls and the older clientele. There also weren't a lot of people the night we came which made the space feel more intimate. Our server was friendly and pointed out the most popular dishes on the menu. We started with the Lomo Ibérico pork with Manchego cheese. The combination of the cured pork and manchego cheese was amazing. They also give grapes, jam, and crackers to go with the meat and cheese. The Charbroiled Oysters came next and were very different from normal oysters. It was like having a bite of the sea but less refreshing and more smokey and pleasantly briny. Next was the Ous which was served with bread. The foamed potato mixed with the egg is like dipping bread into a savory cloud. I was drinking the eggs and potato in fear of getting too full from the bread. We finished with the Pan-Seared Foie which was super decadent and was complemented with multiple dashes of fruit reduction to cut the fattiness. I regret not coming here hungrier and I also regret not getting a glass of wine. Every dish just tasted perfect and I would've spent the whole night here if I wasn't trying to hit every spot in Miami for my limited vacation. No matter, because I'll be back for more the next time I come to Miami.

Niu can do tapas! With a very simplistic but extremely well done execution on spanish tapas, everything was divine. It can definitely be attributed to the quality of the ingredientes because look at how lovely that Jamón is! That day, the A/C at Niu wasn't working so definitely added to the heat, but the staff did everything in their power to keep us cool, constantly refreshing our water. I wish there was something a little more, but well executed for sure. Niu's parking is a little difficult as is everything downtown, but they had a valet nearby to help out

This adorable quaint wine bar serves catalan tapas to be shared with friends. They take reservations on Resy and offer indoor/outdoor dining. Outdoor dining can be noisy since you're right up on the street in the city center. We came as a group of 4 with a reservation - though something went wrong with Resy bc thought she indicated 4 people, it showed up in the restaurants system as 2. I greatly appreciate the staff for still accommodating our group despite the incorrect number. We ordered (from what I remember, 2 months later) PA AMB TOMAQUET COLD TOMATO SOUP LOMO IBÉRICO OUS ARTICHOKE ARRÒS SEC Honestly all of the food was divine! The cold tomato soup with mustard ice cream was such a fun and unique dish - I loved the basil oil as well. But my absolute favorites from the night were the OUS (poached eggs, potato foam, truffle, jamon) because I'd never had anything like it. It felt like something you might have for breakfast but in an elevated form with playful textures.

Wow! My friends and I had such a lovely dinner here. The service was relaxed and friendly. The place really is a vibe. The special of the evening was a duck breast which was delicious, we also go the pan con tomate, and the best artichoke I have ever eaten in my life. It had melt in your mouth iberico with it and was just such a surprising delicious hit for me. Definitely my favorite dish of the night! The wine was also great and overall we had such a lovely and delicious dinner at NIU.

I really enjoyed this meal but the loss of one star was due to 5 menu items being unavailable. We started with the daily oysters, the charbroiled oysters and the pa amb tomaquet. All were great. My favorite of the 3 was the pa amb. The branzino tartar was the highlight of the night for me, main dish wise. The cold white garlic soup was such a nice combination to the fresh fish. Truly stood out to me. We tried the gambas al ajillo since we saw four other tables all order it. It's served on a cast iron skillet, lit on fire, which was fun. Unfortunately this dish didn't do much for me. Very heavy on the garlic and paprika but that was it. It wasn't bad but it also didn't wow me. The ous dish was delicious. I liked the saltiness of the ibérico jam with the softness of the eggs and the truffle. The artichokes were also delicious. Very well done. What I left thinking about for days was the pa amb lait which was the milk bread dessert. Holy crap!!!!! Spectacular. The chocolate dessert was good too but the show stopper was the milk bread. I'll be thinking about it for a very long time.

A dining experience unlike any other in Miami. Probably one of the smallest restaurants around, but you get such personal service that it's worth the wait. The food is amazingly fresh, and if you're not used to Catalonian food, you're in for a surprise. Get one of everything - it's that good. read more

Absolutely loved this place! It's tiny with. Dozen tables and I the staff was super nice. It is truly a hidden gem. I had the oyster special which had on top caramelized onions, breadcrumbs and serrano as well as the Scallop special. Both delicious. From the menu The clams were amazing which we needed some extra bread to soak up the juice. Wahoo tartare was very nice and clean. The poched egg dish with potato foam and truffles was the mastepiece for sure. Great date spot! I was there on a first date. It was solid. read more

I had lunch here. I was pleasantly surprised to find it not so crowded during this busy time for restaurants within walking distance of Miami Dade College's Wolfson campus. I don't expect this will last long once people hear how good as well as unusual the meals here are. This was my first exploration of Catalan food--but will not be my last. I had the mussels. The broth was remarkable, as others have written. It was impossible not to sop it up with the bread provided and then drink down whatever was left. My only nit would be that no one asked to refill my water glass. And that is a pretty small nit to pick. After all, I came for the food! read more

Tried for the first time with my boss who's a foodie. Quality is the awesome. So much flavor and love in every bite. My boss ordered entrecôte which was to die. I ordered costelles which says baby back but are actually spare. Was disappointed as too little meat, too much fat. Cold tomato soup is fun to eat. Lots of flavor. Dessert. I feel lucky that this was my first place to visit in Miami. Food is amazing, look and taste great. It's recommend to share to try different flavour. The place is cozy and feels warm. Nicely decorated and the staff is super friendly. I highly recommend this place. I know I am going back :) Location is close to the water. You can probably go for walk after. Went on a lovely dinner date here this week, after reading all the positive reviews. We didn't make a reservation, since it was a Tuesday night. Once arriving, we noticed how small the restaurant was, I got worried that we wouldn't be able to get a table. The hostess was able to seat us at the last table available despite having a full list of reservations for the evening. Our waiter was full of recommendations. The small plates arrived one by one, with picturesque presentation. They were all delicious too! The crowd seemed close knit, like everyone was a regular. So, we took suggestions for dessert and chatted with our neigbors. This place is not to be missed. Your taste buds will thank you! read more

Oh my. Everything here was terrific. We went in without a reservation on a Sunday night and were seated within about 10 mins. They have a great selection of Spanish wines, beer, but not really any liquor. The waitress was very nice and food was timely. So the food... the Wahoo tartare really knocked our socks off, it was so good. The bread and tomato was simple and delicious. The grilled calamari was excellent though I didn't care for the potato foam so much. Our main was the grilled catch of the day - we ordered the yellowtail snapper. It was grilled to perfection, whole, and huge... with sliced potatoes underneath. We actually couldn't finish it! Small but intimate atmosphere make this Catalan restaurant a must visit in the downtown area. read more

Amazing Catalan cuisine. The chef is incredible, with the food being prepared to perfection. If you enjoy really good food and allow your taste buds to explore a fascinating experience Niu Kitchen is a place to go! Don't be fooled by the exterior of the restaurant and enter to be trilled. Good friendly service, good wine and great food that won't cost you a weeks salary like other restaurants that serve this quality of food. I was born and raised in Spain. This is only restaurant with truly authentic Spanish food in Miami (that I've tried so far). Very cool place but the prices are unreasonable for the quantity. That's the only reason I don't go back. read more

Went today to taste some Catalan food and it was fantastic tried the bread with tomato real good , also had the grilled squid, and the special of the day which was a dorado which was de boned on request fantastic everything I tried was really good. Conflicting message. The food is ok but despite the message of welcoming pasted everywhere in the restaurant, the servers were judgy, not friendly or courteous bc we weren't dressed to the nines. Dafuq? Oh right, of the welcome messages, one thing omitted was "all socioeconomic background". Bravo. Over $200 spent bw 2 people, we got treated like crap while those who spent half as less got treated like royalty just bc they were dressed well. How superficial! read more

I was totally blown away by Niu Kitchen. The Octopus, the eggs and the foie were absolutely perfect. The dishes are full of flavor and they are cooked to perfection. The chocolate ganache with sea salt and olive oil was the best chocolate dessert I've ever had. But the best part about Niu is the amazing staff, the front of the house is pleasant and attentive and the chefs are knowledgeable and detail oriented. Niu Kitchen is probably the best restaurant in Miami right now. read more

My husband, son and I ate here after the opera. Literally anything on the menu is excellent. No joke. The toast with grated tomatoes to the chocolate hazelnut dessert! Can't go wrong. We tried quite a few things-because we love food. Anyway, the soupy rice (arroz caldo) was like a paella and so flavorful. We had the flap steak(amazing) and the whole sea bream on olive potatoes (also amazing). Anchovies-twice, tomato toast-thrice, tomato salad, and all three desserts-which were all incredible. The wine was great- Guimaro-recommended by the waitress since the one we wanted was out. Not cheap we paid $325 with tip, but we had a nice time and it was a cute and different place. read more

Nice little place in downtown area. Plenty of street parking. ( we went around 7pm -Friday evening ) We walked in without any reservation, no problem. The staffs were very nice. Find us a table. They have a good selection of wine. And the food come out quick. We will come back and try their lunch soon. read more

Had the $100 tasting menu last Saturday and it was exceptional. Refreshing, flavorful, modern Catalan food. Interesting concepts like the soup with mustard ice cream and the dessert with eggplant jam. Wines were outstanding. Service and atmosphere was warm and attentive. Rare for Miami! read more

Great place, my favorite from now on, once i got there i was a bit disapointed since the menu was as small as the place, but is said that great things comes in a small package and this is the case, all the dishes were amaizing, I wish i would have more room to keeo eating because everything that we order was amaizing, this place belongs worth to try it. If you go start by something simple as a gazpacho, (tomato soup) and you wont be able to believe how great it taste and how that gourmet twist that they added to it is the wow factor FROM NOW ON THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES IN MIAMI read more

Great little find! Honestly, from the outside, it's a little scary haha but step inside and you won't be disappointed. The ambience is great with low lighting and cute decorations. The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. I ordered the catch of the day which was a whole baked fish over roasted potatoes. it was delicious! So tender and juicy! My boyfriend ordered the Ous and YUMMY! The description of it on the menu does it no justice. But It's this delicious mix of poached eggs topped with a fluffy mashed potato and you dip crusty bread in it. SO YUM! They definitely need to give you more bread though! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the lack of variety. If you don't like seafood, there is not much to choose from. It wasn't an issue for me because I love seafood but definitely check the menu first if you're not a fish/shellfish lover. read more

The best Spanish restaurant I've ever been in the states! Reservation is recommended! We went there on Wednesday evening and I am glad we booked in advance as I saw many were turned away when they came without reservation. There are many Spanish people dining there which is a great sign! read more

We came to visit Miami for the 1st time. We took a culinary tour at Wynwood. When our guide found out we were staying near downtown, she told us we should try Niu. We went on our first night (a Thursday) and completely fell in love. This is a tiny spot - maybe 25 seats. The chef is Catalan and the food is traditional - with a bit of a twist. The best surprise was their version of crema Catalan. The servers are from all over Spain and Latin America and they all know the food and wine. And they are delightful to deal with. Everything we had was exceptional. Tapas at their best. I won't bore you with specifics. Just go and order as much as you can eat. The room is warm and happy. Niu is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Everything I have tried here is amazing. Try the orange wine which is not made from oranges. The oysters are amongst the best in the city. Small restaurant better to make reservations. read more

Welcome to NIU--a Catalan style kitchen. You can find us in the heart of downtown Miami. Or somewhere between Dali's moustache and Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. Like Catalans themselves, we are eclectic and just a little bit eccentric. We mix the local with the exotic. The seasonal with the sophisticated. We play with the finest regional ingredients and make them simply extraordinary. We do not believe in conforming to taste. Which is why we recommend ordering two dishes per person to share. NIU Kitchen is the first restaurant opened by Barcelona-born chef Deme Lomas and business partner Adam Hughes. The partners met in Barcelona, and their combined experiences led them to open NIU Kitchen, a Catalan-inspired restaurant and wine bar.

We booked a 6:30 PM reservation so we could grab a happy hour drink before hand. I think the cocktails at the happy hour bar are different from the regular menu. I had an apricot gin cocktail that I didn't love, but was decent and a slow slipper and my husband had a campari cocktail that is great if you like campari. The bartender was accommodating and overheard me asking my husband if he knew how to spritz the lemon peel like she did but he hadn't been paying attention so she did it again. For dinner, I spotted the table next to us dining on the rolls and Caesar salad and decided I wanted both. The server mentioned that salad is one of their most popular. The rolls were light and fluffy, and very large with sweet and savory honey butter. The Caesar salad was good. It comes out as large leafs of romaine, which is a nice presentation but I do think that leads to breadcrumb and dressing distribution being uneven. It was a very good salad dressing though, not too tart or heavy but still creamy and zesty. For our entrees we had the cavatelli with duck ragu which was my favorite. There were both crispy and tender elements to the duck and the pasta just melted in your mouth. We saved a tiny bit of it to take home because we couldn't stop nibbling on it, and it was great the next day too. They brought our steak out after our pasta. We should have specified we wanted them at the same time. By the time our steak arrived we were pretty full. The steak was served tender and juicy. We got the Prime Hanger. I appreciated that the server mentioned their two less expensive cuts were very popular instead of trying to upsell us on their pricier options, as we were very happy with this option. We had some steak leftover as well which was delicious the next day too. As it was perfectly medium rare, we were able to heat it up on a skillet without it overcooking much. We ordered the Bernaise sauce with our steak, but it was not necessary and I probably would have skipped it. Service was good and pretty efficient. They made sure to check on us frequently but the meal was good without any additions. I don't remember if when booking I requested an outdoor table but their patio is quite hot in summer. I think they need some outdoor fans to help with the heat as I was shvitzing a bit. If I were to visit again in the summer I would make sure to specify the need for an indoor table, but I'm sure it's lovely in the winter months. There was also the occasionally fly near our food which did kill the mood a bit and some table fans might help with. There is a gravel parking lot next to the restaurant. When we arrived there was only one spot available so it does fill up.

Each plate is incredibly well thought out and plays with ingredients in ways that will surprise you. Mustard ice cream in a tomato soup? Seriously, just order it. Also the "Ous," a truffled egg and potato dish, is worth ordering 10 of - just for yourself. I could eat it daily. Don't miss out on the Catalan style rice! It's brothy and flavorful and great to share. The steak comes out with a fiery Rosemary sprig as well- nice touch on presentation. The wine selection is enough to accommodate any connoisseur. There was a day in the week that it wasn't so full and my husband and I decided to try it. It is a tiny and cozy restaurant with great service. We had smoked tuna, cheese trio + wine that were super good! Food is extremely tasteful and this is not a expensive restaurant! I love how the menu is presented. Niu Kitchen is the perfect spot for a fusion of creativity and culinary adventure for your palate. We were a group of eight and had to wait for our entire party to arrive before being seated. Once we were at the table, the service was quick, friendly, and attentive. The menu is thoughtfully crafted to offer diners a wide range of choices. The combination of ingredients was innovative and brilliant. I highly recommend trying all the tapas - they're all worth sampling - including the oysters, clams with mozzarella, and the bread with tomato. This place came here from out of this world for me! It's an intimate & sophisticated spot right in the heart of Downtown serving pretty original Catalan cuisine. Amazing food, a well curated (small) wine list that pairs so well with the various selections, lovely people and a great atmosphere. I'm a foodie and can say ...it is one of the best places I know. Highly recommend the Llamantol (main lobster, avocado) and Galtes de Porc (pork cheeks, potato foam) and ending with either the Mato or Flan. read more

Intimate and cozy, such a nice Friday night out with two friends. We had such a wonderful time eating AMAZING food. Everything we tried was so delicious, we shared the octopus, galtes, special of the night, and vegetable rice. Let me just say WOW, I haven't been so pleasantly surprised by a restaurant in a very long time. I would recommend everything! We had the chocolate ganache for dessert and it was to die for. Upon my 2nd visit, I am again thrilled with NIU. Its soulful food intended for an audience that doesn't need overly done food to be impressed. Classy and poignant and complex and delicious. Understated opulence. Simple, creative, and intelligent. I love the tomatoe soup with mustard ice cream is s dream. The ous is another hit. The menu is one little treasure after another. Excellent place and the food was so good and very delicious. Very decent food. Very nice place and has a good interior setting but space was a bit small. The bare wood-paneled walls were good. very delicious food. The steak tartare was very delicious and it was an excellent dish. Octopus was so great and has a decent taste. An intimate place with the most delicious spanish fusion tapas. Its dim lighting and small space make it great for a romantic date night or a small gathering with friends. I would recommend reservations as it's rather small and popular. The service is always as great as the flavor in the dishes! Two words: Amazing and Not two $$. Eat: Smoked tuna - it was not from this world Cheese Trio - very nice with wine OUS - potato foam + poached eggs. this was also from another planet Do not Eat: Oysters - the oysters are the only thing I do not recommend. Dragos Restaurant, butter char grilled oysters are my gold standard for now on. And counting it in a Dragos scale, I'd say this these oysters are a 3 out of 10. read more

Lovely ambiance. I loved the arts and seating arrangement too. Beautiful and friendly belly dancers on Friday. The staff is extremely welcoming. We are friends with the Chefs and staff and can guarantee that you'll be treated like family here. Great prices on seafood dishes, meats, beer and wine. Reminds me one of those little family restaurants in Europe. The food is good however some dishes are a litle pricey for what you get as you have to order at least 2 dishes. The service is decent but being in such a small room it could be more attentive. I suggest dont come here during peak hours as it gets very loud. Must try the Ous. I ll be back but not during peak hours. read more

The menu is smallish, but it is good, especially all the fish options which are my favorite. Me and my family drove down to downtown miami last week. After shopping around, we tried to pass by thus restaurant for lunch which is recommended by my friend. Everybody are happy with their food. I really like my ham with fried eggs and service with toasted bread. I was so full after finish our lunch. You should try, bed will like it a lot. read more

Incredible! My husband and I loved it here. Very intimate setting, friendly service, and mind-blowing food... We're already regulars. We had the Jamon iberico, mussels, Maine lobster and the ribs - All stellar dishes with great presentation. Space is tight, so get to this place before you can't get a table! read more

Excellent service and food. The place has only a few tables so I would recommend to reserved ahead of time. By far the best dish is Ous, the first time we had two orders of those. I would also recommend the Ribeye and Llamantol. This restaurant is in my top 5 list in Miami. read more
