I've always been a fan of the tapas concept of a variety of small shareable plates, so when in Miami some spanish tapas is in order. So after a yelp review of the tapas scene, I landed at Bulla Gastrobar in Coral Gables. A slight drive from the downtown area but proved to be so worth it. Once we arrived we were seated immediately and greeted by our beautiful, friendly and knowledgeable server Melody. After she explained the menu and made recommendations, she offered to course our plates out accordingly so it wouldn't arrive all at once. Five stars to Melody for taking great care of us. Now to the food... We started things off with the pan con tomate with Serrano Ham and manchego cheese. Although this is a staple of tapas dining in Spain I had never tried it and was impressed with the depth of flavor and the different notes that it offered. It was excellent and I highly recommend it. Next was the gambas al ajillo which are broiled shrimp in a garlicky pepper butter sauce. These were also excellent, so much so we ordered another batch, Then we tried the Albondigas which were Pork and beef meatballs, with manchego,tomate sauce. These were good but proved to be our least favorite of everything we tried. Next was the datiles rellenos which were bacon wrapped dates with a small salad. These were very good Lastly we ordered the Serrano ham croquettes which came with a wonderful fig jam. These proved to steal the show. Hands down 5 stars! Because it was happy hour until 7pm, I got a Spanish beer (Mahou) and a wonderful glass of Malbec for $6 each. The total bill for all this before tip was $112 which was well worth it for an extraordinary meal with great variety. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

I visited this Bulla for brunch with my fiancé, and our server, Kevin, was phenomenal. He was attentive throughout our meal, made excellent food recommendations, and provided outstanding service from start to finish. The food was delicious, and the overall dining experience was excellent because of him. The only downside for me was [[HIGHLIGHT]]the dining area. I've visited other Bulla locations, and this one felt noticeably smaller and a bit cramped, which made it less comfortable than I'm used to[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Definitely think that it is a two or three person dish. Sangria was good, but not very strong and we had a few pitchers floating around. I had made reservations at Bulla for brunch after we disembarked our cruise ship. We arrived a little bit early, but they were able to sit us. First, staff here are extremely nice and welcoming. We were very well taken care of during our time here. For our party of 3, we split: - Croquetas de Jamon with Serrano ham croquettes, fig jelly - Datiles Rellenos with Medjool dates, house-made chorizo, Manchego cheese, wrapped in bacon, arugula salad - Huevos Bulla with Eggs, homemade potato chips, Serrano ham, potato foam, truffle oil - Tequeños with Queso blanco, fig jelly - Pulpo a la Gallega with Steamed Spanish octopus Everything was absolutely delicious but I will have to say the standout was the octopus. It came with some kind of creamed sweet corn puree that was absolutely delightful. I could've eaten an entire bowl of that corn puree. The dates were also very good and a favorite of ours. We were a group of 8 on a Friday night celebrating a bachelorette. Half of the table ordered the miami spice menu and the other half ordered plates to share. It was very busy, lots of people dining in and our waiter was very nice. He was very communicative of what they did and did not have in the menu and was attentive to what we needed. The music was not what I expected for the vibe they were going for but it was ok. The red ans white sangria were great. If you're dining in for the miami spice menu Í would recommend to dine in early as a lot of the plates will run out by the end of the night. The tuna tartar, tiradito medditeranio, and the croquets were amazing. I really liked the fish, it was fresh and very vibrant flavors. The croquets went really well with the sweet sauce. The bistec a la patilla and bistro with blue cheese is ehat my friends ordered and I tried it and the meet and sauce were really good, but the food got there pretty cold or more like room temp. I ordered the Arroz Caldoso and was told it would take 25 min which I was fine waiting for. It did come out super super hot and I really enjoyed it. The seafood inside was really fresh. One year later and Bulla Gastrobar - Coral Gables is still one of our top spots to go to! Especially during Miami Spice which is from August 1st to September 30th. Delicious food like their tapas and entires and their drinks are always a go too. Prices are always great here and desserts are always a must. Service is lovely every time never encountered an issue. Bulla has been a staple restaurant in Coral Gables for as long as I can remember. When it first opened its doors after Por Fin received a facelift in 2013 - the city was buzzing over this spot to grab tapas and drinks. I am going to admit - I find it wild that I have not reviewed Bulla ever, as it the scene of many a bottomless brunch, happy hour, and bridal showers I have attended over the last decade. HOWEVER, I am here to report that in the since July I have been about 3 times and I can say with confidence that Bulla may just be the shining beacon of hope Miami's happy hour scene needed. This happy hour absolutely slaps. Here are the top three things I love about this happy hour which is available only at the bar: +It is offered every day from 5 - 7. Who doesn't love the opportunity for a crisp glass of wine at a discount any day of the week!? +They have a solid food menu. There are about 10+ items on the menu for under $10. My fave bites were the steak montaditos. +While multiple beverages are on special, let's be real it's all about the wine here. Wine is 50% off during happy hour, and I'm talking by the glass and by the bottle. This is the perfect girl math treat as enjoying a bottle with friends is actually cheaper than individual glasses. Who are we to not be financially responsible?! My girlfriends and I went yesterday and enjoyed a bottle of Albariño for $22 (normally $44) which is CRAZY. They also have well spirits, cocktails, and beer on a discount during HH. While I am not gatekeeping this happy hour, I don't think it is a secret either as the bar has been pretty full every time I have visited recently. My one piece of feedback is that the bar does get pretty bumpin', so service at times is a little slow. However, it is always friendly. I also love that the bar opens up to the street, so on a nice day with the doors open it is a delicious spot to enjoy a drink and catch up with friends. A lot of things in Miami can be expensive, but this happy hour is an amazing deal. We had the sangria cerveza which was not my favorite so I followed it up with a couple of glasses of wine ;). I have been to Bulla in Winter Park and Tampa. This is easily the worst location of the three. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is small and very hot inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service wasn't anything special, it was very basic. Nobody asked how we liked the food. We had to ask people to bus empty dishes off the table. There were some really basic service issues like that. The food was very mediocre. I have eaten Tapas all over Spain and this was not a good representation. The tortilla was dense and bland. It is supposed to be fluffy and airy (the way I had in Barcelona). The tuna tartare was not good either. It didn't taste fresh and the crackers that came with it were stale. Finally the Brussels Sprouts (usually one of our favorite appetizers) tasted undercooked and lacked flavor. I had to really cut into it with force because it was so hard. It's too bad because I like the food at the other Bulla locations, but this one missed the mark. In contrast, I had a wonderful Tapas meal at a nearby restaurant called La Taberna de Giralda. Came here for the first time for a week night early dinner. Luckily I did make reservations on this place does get packed. They do have valet services however, if you're lucky, you can find a street parking at a very cheap price and only walk a block like we did. This is a chain and so we went to the location in Coral Gables, which was very pleasant with a really amazing vibe. Great look to it and incredible amounts of energy as soon as you walk in and even when you go upstairs. The upstairs has some big private rooms that you can use for parties and the entire restaurant is programmable and great for taking pictures. I however only took pictures of the food. Speaking of food, it was unfortunate. There were some things that they had already run out of such as jamon Iberico. Everything else that we ordered was absolutely delicious and tasty and came out with a really great timing because we ordered multiple dishes as is expected for tapas. The paella was a little bit of a small side, considering there was only three of us eating however they really toasted up the rice and it would had a great crackle as you tried to break through the top layer. And it had a lot of filling so it was great that we were not playing a game of where's a seafood or where is the meat. Service was really friendly and very kind. I would definitely come back here again. Even if it was to a different location just to see if they were consistent about the quality of food as well as the service. As for the food..... - Croquetas- can't go wrong with croquetas but nothing super special about these. I've been coming to Bulla for quite some time so it's only right that I finally leave my review for this phenomenon of a gastrobar. They have a few locations here in Miami. 3 that I know of. One in Coral gables, another in Doral and the newest that me in the falls. My absolute favorite is the one in the gables. The ambience and service are always up to par. I do feel like I'm always treating like a king here at Bulla. They never skip a beat. I haven't tried everything on their menu but everything I've tried has been so good. I always start with a blackberry lemonade or strawberry lemonade. They super refreshing. They have really good spritzers and cocktails as well that will blow refreshingly blow your taste buds away. One my favorite from bulla is the sopa de garbanzo. So good! I always order a side of rice for it. Makes it perfect. I believe they're only served shoring lunch hours and on the weekends. The ham croquetas are a must. They're not your typical Cuban croquetas these hit different but are top tier in my books. Can't forget about the patatas bravas....... You can't go wrong with patatas bravas I promise. The Bulla huevos are amazing, The Gambas shrimp is fire. The bulla burger is epic and also another of my favorites. Let's just put it like this, everything on the menu amazing. They have a really good lunch menu as well. I believe it's a 3 course lunch meal for about $35 ( Appetizer,main, dessert). After church on Sunday we decided to try the Miami spice brunch. It was $35 for three courses plus a mimosa. What a great deal! When we arrived it was about noon and they were starting to get busy. We didn't have reservations but were seated in the upstairs dining room. For our starters we ordered the Bravas Patatas and tortilla espanola. The fries were so crispy on the edges and soft in the inside and drizzled with a spicy aioli that made it even tastier! For our mains we did steak and eggs; the steak with drizzled in a mojo verde, sriracha aioli. So good. Huevos bravas, that had the thinnest potato chips with it and the Bulla Benedict. It was all so good and great portions. We were so full but there was still dessert. For dessert: churros, blueberry ricotta pancakes, and hazelnut waffles. They were all good and left with leftovers. Bulla - Falls We attended spanish wine tasting experience event today. The manager Nicole was very rude, indifferent and told us " your people " are taking her time away from others just because we had informed them earlier when we bought $65/ PP ticket that some of us did not eat beef and we were promised that we could get fish or chicken. Instead we got Pan con tomato, small salad and cold soup. Is this acceptable for an event dinner where we paid $65/PP? We felt very racially segregated by Nicole and her team in the way we were treated. We are all highly educated and successful members of society and the disrespect and racial comments by Nicole and Bulla team were pathetic and uncalled for. She never apologized.
