I like the variety of eateries at the food court. There are a couple of vacant spaces, so it will be interesting to see what comes next. However, it's quite crowded on the weekends, so don't bother coming on those days if you don't have to. In 2028, they will have residential apartments, which is what they've been doing at many shopping malls these days. That will bring thousands more people to the grounds. I personally wish they wouldn't build housing right at the malls.

It was still the best in its era back then, but it's still a reliable and good mall today. My latest visit was actually to Macy's, but decided to give the mall for a run. The major department stores are still there, with the Macy's, JcPenney, and Nordstrom. There's also some of the original shops like LUSH, Abercrombie (though they've moved around a few times), Bath and Body, Hot Topic, etc. There's some new jewelry places and some other trinket stores. I saw something like build your own slime for like 30 bucks...what is that?! But yeah, a lot more boutique and random shops here and there. Parking lot is still packed like always, so people still enjoy coming here.

It was…read moreconstructed in 1961, but my family moved to Whittier right before I was born, and my late paternal grandmother used to always tell the story of taking me in the stroller near the mall as they enclosed it in 1977 or 1978, and infant/toddler John S. used to imitate the hammering and other construction sounds, and he associated those sounds with being in a stroller with his grandmother. It's still hanging on, somehow. I don't know how much longer JCPenney ("Penney's," as we call it) will last, my mother's best efforts to keep it financially afloat notwithstanding. The Sears will almost surely close within the year, but that's all right, because I still and always will associate that building with The Broadway (RIP). And some of my earliest memories were created at this mall. Because the Penney's and Broadway shoe departments looked similar, I used to think they were the same place when I was four or so. I distinctly remember the shock and then gradual understanding of how two different places could look so similar but actually be different. I also memorized my phone number (my parents still have it, two area-code changes later) while walking from our parked car to Penney's: "2-1-3, 9-4-7 . . . ." I really miss the enclosed mall. Not because it was unique in any particular way, but there were all these small details that only I and a few other people of my generation remember. Like those wooden animals that were a poor substitute for a play structure in the center of the mall, and the huge-huge-huge diameter metal pipe that encircled those animals but that wasn't an actual fence, as children could squeeze under it easily. And the weird lower level of the seating for the pathetic-but-delicious food court. And the arcade! This review is now completely sopped in my memories, so I'll tell you more. There used to be a focus-group company that would try to get people to sign up for surveys while you walked. I went to one with my (older) sister, when she was a teenager and I was maybe 8 or 9. We saw mock-ups of a commercial for milk that eventually became a real live-action-and-animation commercial. That was so cool! And Miller's Outpost (RIP) and Stride Rite (RIP), and the Gap before it turned into a horrible sweatshop company and the actual phone store with all the crazy phone options and Boston Store (RIP) where I got lost for the first and scariest time as a child and Conlon Bros. (RIP) and Sav-on in the mall before it became Osco and then Jewel-Osco and then back to Sav-on before CVS bought it. Sav-on used to have ice cream like Thrifty, and the same oldish woman with the denim smock and longish, graying braids would be working most of the time. And that mysterious but comforting women's store with the fake spooky gas lamps that flickered on either side of the storefront. I also miss Farrell's (RIP) and its arcade where my siblings set high scores on Centipede. And the original theater (RIP) and the replacement theater (RIP), where I got good at the TMNT and The Simpsons video games in 7th and 8th grades. I even miss the tire store and Jewlecor (RIP) and the janky but massive Crown Books (RIP) that replaced the B. Dalton (RIP) on the opposite side of the mall. Another formative memory was walking west in the mall with my mother in the mall building on August 30, 1985. We were right near the wooden animals I described earlier, and some announcement came over the loudspeakers. I couldn't make it out, but suddenly, everyone around us was jumping and cheering and smiling and clapping as if the Rams had just won the Super Bowl. I asked my mom what happened, and she said that they had caught Richard Ramirez, the serial killer known as the Night Stalker who had terrorized Southern California for months and who had also killed the neighbor who shared a backyard fence with my cousins (I didn't know this at the time). I learned how to drive in its massive parking lot, including the ridiculous ramp up to the bank (now Bank of America). There's also a separate ramp down from the bank. The first ramp is hard to get to now that Chick-fil-A and its complicated drive-thru line are right next to it, but try it anyway! Not to mention those weird covered parking spots underneath the bank. (Can you believe the parking lot used to fill up so much that we used to actually need to park that far?) I know I had long eyelashes as a child because the furniture store (kind of like a proto-Pier 1) where Buffalo Wild Wings is now used to have a cashier who always used to tell five-year-old me that I could sweep the floors with my eyelashes. I hate the Target and PetSmart and the huge parking area in front of them, because that was where most of the mall was. It ran east-west from Penney's to Sear, with that slight "L" added later to connect Mervyn's (RIP), now Kohl's. I also miss Dandy Donuts (RIP) and the weird laundromat. Sorry.

It is somewhat smaller than other outlets, but they do have all the popular stores that everyone knows about. I went into Nike, Adidas, Lululemon, and under Armour. They had really good prices and really nice things that actually I couldn't believe were on sale now. I do like that. It's easy to find the stores and you don't get lost like other outlets it's easy to park and they have a nice food court with variety. I do recommend here if you want to shop or grab a bite to eat or if you're in the area, they do have decent prices and good quality clothing with good name brand stores. I have been to Citadel Outlets probably like 30 years ago…read more My friend was visiting from Tampa, Florida and staying at the Double Tree Hilton, which is inside Citadel. When I found out, I said I am going to go and see her. I am glad that I did, and we were happy to see each other. So today practically all day, we spent some time together at this lovely, clean mall that is surrounded by so many great stores and eateries. There are probably over 130 stores and places to eat inside and outside the mall. Let me not forget to tell you, some of the restrooms that we used were SPOTLESS CLEAN!!! They have different stores such as Disney, Nike Factory Store, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Michael Kors, Guess, BOSS Outlet, Beauty and Specialty Stores, Tommy Hilfiger (one of my favorite designers & brands). Converse Factory Outlet, & Gap. Just to name a few. They have vending machines available with snacks and drinks. Also, a lot of nice restaurants nearby. Free parking and close to the I-5 freeway. We went to Gap and Converse, and I bought me 2 pairs of tennis shoes. Get one, and the other one was 50% off. Fantastic deal. From Gap, I got a nice, long, black jacket. Thin material and very comfortable. They also had clean dressing rooms at Gap. Every item has its own value and price. Both stores that we went to had great employees who were eager to help us. Customer service was above and beyond our expectations. We even had lunch at Panda Express. The list can go on and on and on. It has been like 7 years I haven't seen my friend. She used to live here, we used to work together, and then she relocated back to Florida to help her parents. I also was surprised to see Aeropostale and Cotton On. I thought the former had gone out of business. My only complaint is the food court. Why is it tucked away in a corner down a separate wing? The value of anything sold here really depends on where you choose to shop. There are stores that can be costly and some more affordable. They have an Apple and Samsung store located inside as well. The service is great. They keep this location well maintained. My only complaint is I wish they had more directories inside to navigate the mall because the layout is a bit confusing.

The Celebrity Grand Marshal for the parade was comedian Jerry Garcia. From Huntington Park, Garcia is one of the top-rated comedians, with his HBO special "It's Not My Weekend" currently streaming. This year, there were two Grand Marshals, as the Uptown Whittier Association brought back its Community Grand Marshal, honoring Bobby Ruiz of @mywhittier fame. Ruiz is a local community celebrity dedicated to uplifting Whittier businesses and community history. Plenty of parking available between outdoor parking lot and the multi level indoor garage. We initially came to the mall for dinner at Din Tai Fung. While walking the place, I found they had so many other Asian brand stores like Miniso, Meet Fresh, Uniqlo and Kinokuniya bookstore. But most surprising of all was finding a whole 99 Ranch inside the mall. After dinner, we did some shopping here. Later at night, I came back here to play some games in Dave & Buster's. But the signs can improve a bit for better direction. I was so confused how to get to the parking near D&B entrance. Also, the parking garage seemed under maintained. But overall a really great place for both locals and tourists.
