These folks hv fallen off since a year ago. I really enjoyed their food but the last 2 times we've gone there, the food was not tasty. None if us enjoyed our food. The fried chicken tasted old, it was hard and cold. The fried rice already lacked luster but this last time was really not tasty. Just thrown together. The general tsaos was overly breaded and hard like it had sat around, then tossed in sauce and heated up. Even the egg rolls were soggy and lukewarm. We spent well over 100.00 and were sorely disappointed. I think we will hv to give them a break for a while. Sometimes businesses can hit a rough patch and since I really love Chinese food, I'll visit once more in the distant future to see if things change. No. 1 CHINESE RESTAURANT is a RIP-OFF! Do not take out food from here WITHOUT verifying what's inside the bag and double checking ALL the container sizes of each separate item you had ordered! Around 8:30pm, my wife went inside to order from the "dinner" section for a LARGE "quart sized" shrimp fried rice and a LARGE "quart sized" beef with mixed vegetables. The lady behind the counter told her they have no "large sized" portions of the fried rice, only the SMALL size. My wife did not know better as this was her first time. This is BS and was done deliberately since she was a new customer! The lady did the same thing to our second item, serving a pint sized reduced portion of the beef with mixed vegetables. When we arrived home we found a "pint sized" fried rice and a "pint sized" beef with mixed vegetables. Totally UNSAT as we were charged for the more expensive "quart sized" prices for both items rather than the pint sized prices. Then she had the audacity to include a pint sized white rice in the bag which we never ordered, just to make the carryout bag feel heavier. They charged us nearly "double" the price for the entire meal with much less food portions at $25! This was all verified on the takeout menu we took home that night. I am a retired military veteran, as well as senior citizens in our 70's. We were just taken advantage of folks. It's appalling. The closest descriptive word I can think of is "Meh". No. 1 Chinese Restaurant is another version of the strip mall Chinese take out place that you will find up and down the east coast. Cantonese flavors have been Americanized to the point of being non offensive, but also lacking in that authentic flavor which would highlight that region of China. Szechuan Heat has been replaced with Szechuan sweet. It was tasty enough, but not something that would satisfy a craving for what many people are used to finding in such a place. The best part of the experience was the staff. Everyone was greeted as they came through the door, but linger a moment and the conversation might just start up. You might even hear about how the restaurant started 25 years ago. Need something in 10-15 minutes? Go ahead and order. I go to this place at least once a month for the General Tso chicken. The staff are always happy to take your order and the food is always hot. They also have a freezer full of sodas and water. It also never too busy, so you can sit inside and eat without having a bunch of people around. It's pretty small but there are a few tables to eat. read more

The food tastes like it was from any ol' Chinese restaurant (but I'm comparing this to Chinese restaurants in Cali). It's average but you know what? Average doesn't mean that it's bad. I got the chicken and broccoli combo plate. And my friend got the general chicken something (which was pretty much orange chicken). The food was pretty good. The combo plates came with fried rice (with green onions, onions, and pieces of chopped pork) and an egg roll (I'm not too sure what was in it but it tasted alright). Each plate was about 7 bucks which was a steal because the portions were pretty big. They seemed pretty busy in the kitchen and it was probably because people call for carry out.
