This other woman, clearly the 'Kiss Mah Grits' type, alienated me by calling me Mr. Miyagi and cackling about it to the rest of the staff. I thought I might be expected to recite lines from "The Karate Kid". Instead I ordered the $11.25 Grilled Meatloaf Melt, which came with quite a slice covered in fried onions and melted Swiss cheese barely held together by the toasted rye bread. On the weekend, we waited about 15 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad at all. During the weekday, we were seated immediately. The star of the meal is undoubtedly the famous crepe-style hotcakes. They're thin, buttery, lightly crisp around the edges, and absolutely to die for. Pair them with the Lyonnaise-style potatoes, and you've got one of the best brunch combinations around. The service was quick and friendly both times, our coffee cups never stayed empty thanks to the free refills, and the food came out surprisingly fast despite how busy it was. The decor has that classic all-American diner charm, simple, nostalgic, and full of character. If you're visiting Pittsburgh, Pamela's is absolutely worth adding to your brunch list.
