I had one of the most unnecessarily frustrating experiences I've ever had at any store. I went in to buy a non alcoholic mixer, (literally just $6 green apple syrup) and because I didn't have my ID, the cashier, Ariel, decided to ask me about my age. I told her I was over 21 (which is obvious), my birthday, and offered a photo of my id (I lost my wallet earlier this week), and instead of explaining anything, she refused the sale, stared at me, then turned her back and ignored me like I wasn't even there. No explanation, no basic courtesy, nothing. I left completely confused thinking that maybe the mixer was alcoholic so I looked it up. Found it online and was labeled as non alcoholic. My friend encouraged me to go back in and ask what the problem was, and when I did, I was treated with condescension like I was an idiot for not magically knowing their store policy. The attitude alone was enough to make me walk out again. But the part that really pushed this from "bad service" to "unprofessional and rude" was when my friend went in to buy the exact same non alcoholic item, and Ariel not only sold it to them (even though she obviously assumed it was for me), but made a snarky, unnecessary comment, "Tell your friend next time they need their ID to buy something from a liquor store." I work at a liquor store. We do not ID for non alcoholic mixers. You can shop at a liquor store without needing an ID. That is non a standard policy. If she truly believed I was underage and followed store policy, why knowingly sell it to someone else on my behalf? And why talk about me to another customer with that kind of attitude? It was petty and completely unprofessional. This review isn't about the policy as stores have rules. It's about how the employee went out of her way to be dismissive, unhelpful, and downright rude. I've never been treated with this level of disrespect over a non alcoholic product that I could've easily bought at any other store without issue. It was my first time at BevMo and I wasn't sure what to expect, but from the moment I called to check if they had what I needed, I was pleasantly surprised. The woman who picked up was so friendly and took the time to check the shelf for me while I was on the phone, which already made me feel like I was in good hands. When I got there, the store had a huge selection and everything was easy to navigate. The vibe was welcoming, and I never felt rushed or out of place. I've been a member of BevMo for several years. Stopped in to pick up a last minute gift, a Centenario gift set. I asked an employee where I could find it and I was told matter-of-factly they didn't have it. I had checked online the night before and I knew it was there. Rather than pursuing it with the employee, I said thanks and walked off. I wandered the store for about five minutes or so and I found it. Rather than informing the employee, I paid for it and left. Always Always Delivery Problem Always Have tried on four occasions Only once did I even GET my product and these people use Go Puff They never can get their own scan of your license to work and I am so uncomfortable about them taking photos of both sides of my passport and my license.. off they go to smuggle in more illegal criminals with my info and it didn't work for my delivery so no product- this three out of four times in three years- forget this place . Oh and the website is disorganized and filters don't work and the phone verify code resent five times in a row doesn't work just lousy. read more

Went in a couple of months ago to see if they had Franzia Moscato. I bought Pinot Grigio instead. The manager said he could probably get the Moscato, so I have him my name and phone number. Never heard back. Went in this morning to check. He said he couldn't get it. Didn't bother to call me and let me know. All of the price tickets for the different kinds on the shelf said $19.99, so I grabbed the White Zinfandel. The total came out over $25.00! I told the clerk the price on the shelf was only $19.99. He went and looked. Said the White Zinfandel had no price ticket on the shelf and the prices I saw were for the other kinds. I told them they need to put all of the prices on the shelf and just walked out. I won't be going back. Found it at Safeway for $6.00 less! read more

Absolutely terrible experience! I placed a pickup order online for a bottle of tequila I've been looking for. When I arrived at the store the clerk told me they had the bottle but couldn't give it to me because the manager reserved it for themselves. What a joke! I asked to speak to the manager as I had already paid for it and drove all the way to the store to pick it up but they wouldn't come out of their office. The clerk went and talked to the manager and returned saying there was nothing in stock. I tried to politely talk to the clerk but they turned their back on me and ignored me. I'm not one to make a scene over a bottle of liquor so I left. But geez what a terrible experience. I went to Veruttis after and was treated great. I'm sure BevMo doesn't care but I'll be shopping local in the future rather than this chain that lies to its customers. read more

I have shopped at Bev Mo for several years, but now BevMo! = NO MO! The last two orders I made on-line and paid for were not available when my elderly husband tried to pick them up at the assigned time. Order #1: 18 bottles of wine, including a case. He came home with 4 bottles! (The case of Sauvignon Blanc wasn't in the store, but no note of this unavailability on the on-line order form.) Order #2: A couple of weeks later, I ordered the case again. Paid for it on-line. Just to be sure, my husband phoned BevMo! and asked the saleswoman to physically check to see it the case was there and to put our name on it. She assured him it was there and she'd tagged it with our name. He tried to pick it up at the assigned time. NO case of wine. She'd actually lied to him. Bye, bye BEV MO!.........NO MO! read more

In both cases getting the issue resolved was problematic due to inexperienced staff and manager. I've made a decision not to spend my money at BevMo going forward. read more

So happy to have a Bevmo in Capitola. Every time that I've been in the staff has been very helpful. My friend couldn't locate a beer and only knew what the label looked like. The woman who helped us was able to find it after a quick search on the computer. They all seem very familiar with all of their products. I hear what many of you are saying but what I love about Bev Mo is choices, choices, choices. Everyone knows you don't buy somethings at Costco if what you need isn't cheaper there and/or you can't possibly use that much flour in a reasonable amount of time. Same thing here. Don't buy the beer you can get at Safeway or the great wine you can get at Shoppers. Do come here to buy what those guys DON'T have. Whenever I find a cool new drink in my latest Imbibe (this month it is the Chantres Shrub) or get inspired to try something new (can you say Pimms Cup) I head here find my unusual ingredients. Love the 5 cent sale and the fact that it goes on for what feels like forever. Great beer and cider selection. I don't really pay attention to the Wiflred Wong reviews, I think he is their inside guy. They have an amazing soda collection, my daughter loves to come here before we have a party and pick up some fun unusual options. Have noticed that Nob Hill has started carrying alot of these too. So use your local BevMo carefully, do your research and then head on over the 41st Ave and try something new or buy a great gift for a friend. read more

Here is the best all around drink you can buy that everyone will enjoy: Fill your TALL glass with: 2/3 Firefly Vodka - Sweet Tea Flavor (70 or 80 proof I believe) + 1/3 Minute Maid lemonade The result? McDonald's Sweet Tea Replica--but this one will eff you up. Though sometimes I will pony up and order a whiskey sour or drink a dirty martini, I also enjoy sweet girly drinks. That being said, I guarantee you that this is something both burly drinkers and girly drinkers will enjoy. I think we've found a middle ground. Not that it really bothered me because I am always fully stocked (I go to the BevMo near my house in SF) but there were times when I wish I didn't have to go to Costco or Safeway for my booze. What a shame. This great chain has such potential, but it suffers serious issues. The stores offer a wide variety of products, but out-of-stock situations are surprisingly frequent, even involving items listed as in-stock on their website. The inventory system is obviously fatally flawed. But BevMo's worst problem by far is its staff. These folks are apparently ignorant of the most basic concepts of customer service. They offer internet-ordering for shipment or pick-up at the local store. This afternoon multiple staff members watched us walk to the pick-up counter and ignored us while we waited and waited. Then they actually blamed US for not seeking out someone to help you. Once we persuaded someone to help, he loudly argued with us the whole time he processed our order. The resulting customer experience? A disaster. Perhaps it would be smarter to support our independent local retailers. read more

Absolutely Disappointed. I walked into Bevmo after a long day of work, and saw 5 workers congregated by the register. I said hello, and received a nod from one of the workers. To me, that is totally acceptable. What is not acceptable is the conversation they were having out loud... As I was walking towards the wine section, they said loud enough for anyone to hear, "Yeah, that chick got her period around...." That was not only unprofessional, but absolutely disgusting. Honestly, I have worked retail for 14 years. What I just encountered tonight was a no-no on so many levels, it's downright disgraceful. That right there would have been enough to be upset, but on the same night that I was trying to surprise my girlfriend with wine, she stopped by soon after to surprise me with tequila. Once she told me her experience IN THE SAME STORE, ON THE SAME NIGHT, that is what inspired me to write this review. When she walked in there, she asked for some assistance to find a good type of tequila. She tried to explain the type and logo as best as she could, only to get the most rude and impatient attitude from the worker that helped her. He said that "things go in and out of season," and "he has no idea what she's talking about." Within 2 minutes of having to look on her own, she found the bottle that she described with "a heart with an agave plant" and "reposado." The staff tonight (on 2/13/16 for the manager), was absolutely terrible. My girlfriend and I will never shop at this location again, which really is a bummer for Bevmo, because we have grown up here our whole lives. All of our family and friends will hear our experience, and I this will hurt the locals view on the business and reputation. YOU PEOPLE FAIL. read more

I can't give it one star because they do have some attractive wine sales and for the inexperienced wine buyer, the testimonials are helpful. That being said, I don't appreciate how Capitola has COMPLETELY SOLD OUT to every corpo chain in existence- way to undercut your valuable and colorful local flavor. For better beer value and a bit better selection, try Verutti Liquor. For wine, stay loyal, stay local and check out the quality wine merchants like Vino Cruz and Soif. If we all trade quality, uniqueness and character for a few dollars here and there, Santa Cruz will end up like the rest of the U.S. For example, a social experiment: blindfold someone, put them in a van and drive for an indiscriminate period of time and throw the unfortunate soul into the parking lot of a random strip mall. 2 stars instead of 1 because it's a BevMo and BevMo's in general have lots of wines for great prices. Luckily, my friend who was with me is even more in to wine than I am so we spent a good amount of time together reading labels and deciding on the 6 bottles we wanted to try that night but the customer service SUCKED. Usually there is a knowledgeable staff member there to give recommendations and to answer questions. We couldn't get anyone's attention and it wasn't even busy in there. BevMo has such a large selection of beers it is amazing. I love how they have a section devoted to local micro breweries. Another cool thing is how they have their beers categorized by country. They have excellent Wines and many hard alcohols. You can also rent kegs from them for the bigger events you may be having. read more

And this is suppose to be a party store?? I stopped by this store while walking to the Drug Store as I saw they had birthday cards in the window. I decided to get a bottle of liquor for a present at that time as well. The Patron tequila that I wanted to purchase was in the locked cabinet. I walked up to the counter and asked an older gentleman, asian/hispanic checker if he could get me a bottle. Him: " what size?" Me "The small one" he said sarcastically, "I don't know what your talking about there are all kinds of sizes" Me:" Umm, I m not sure, can I look at them?" Him "I don't want to walk over there but I have some under the counter". He was rude, and obviously didn't want to take the time to bother helping me at all. He brought out the bottles from under the counter and gave them to me. He was just so rude and offensive, no other words were said...he just stared at me. I decided to just leave and bought the tequila down the street , he didn't even seem to care. didn't say good bye, nothing. I was happy when I came in. I makes me angry all over again writing this. One star is too much credit! BRIDES & GROOMS to be need to BEWARE! We had the nightmare experience with Bevmo in Capitola, for my daughter's wedding. The stress with this company began with the order placing, but did not end there. We started by ordering online, but we still needed to call them. I talked to Patrick, the store manager, who was very condescending. He repeatedly told me not to worry that they got this. This should have been our warning to trust our gut and go to COSTCO, spend less and bring it to the venue ourselves. We placed a $900 order, then at a later date added to the order. I was assured by Patrick that both orders would be combined and not to worry! The big day comes and 45 minutes before the ceremony I am alerted by the bartender that we are missing a lot from the order for our 100 thirsty guests. I have to go out to the car and find the paperwork. When the wedding coordinator and I called Bevmo in Capitola, we were disconnected twice. Finally the manager on duty tells us he has no one to bring the liquor to the venue. Thankfully, one of our guests volunteers to make the 1-1/2 round trip drive. He returns with wine that we didn't even order. We were short more than a case of wine and many cases of beer. The day after the wedding, we brought back a small amount of unopened liquor. The manager of that day had to take care of the return. He charged us for it all, rather than credited our account. So, we had to wait while he reversed all of that mess. Afterwards, we wrote a letter to the President of Bevmo, who simply passed it on to a district manager. The gal that called was very interested in learning all the details, especially names of employees we encountered at Bevmo. The gal that we talked to apologized over and over, but offered nothing concrete until we said how about reimbursing our guest for his gas of $40. She agreed to that. You would have thought they'd have sent the distressed parents a couple of bottles of wine as a real olive branch, but that never happened. BEWARE! read more
