A warm and inviting café tucked away in Lincoln Park, with a thoughtful menu of specialty matcha and hojicha lattes (among other things). Their HOJICHA LATTES were what brought me in the door. Hojicha drinks can be quite hard to come by, especially compared to the seemingly endless match options out there. Noble Fat absolutely does them RIGHT, serving rich, wonderfully fragrant hojicha lattes that are genuinely unforgettable. We tried the Banana Bread Hojicha and the Black Sesame Hojicha. Both were incredible, but the Black Sesame Hojicha was my personal favorite. Don't skip out on their little treats. We tried their Ube "Mochi Cake," and it absolutely blew my mind. Perfect texture. Pleasant flavor. Biting into it instantly transported me back to my college days in Champaign-Urbana, where I'd frequently stop by my favorite little Japanese bakery, Suzu's Bakery. Dare I say, Noble Fat's "Mochi Cake" just might've topped it. The ambiance and service is perfect. Cozy and welcoming. This is a true matcha bar. I was only able to try the hojicha which was excellent but you can tell they curated their menu and station to make quality matcha drinks. Prices are what they should be for that quality, and will make you question other coffee shops.. I can't wait to try more! I also ordered the avocado toast and it was excellent. I would be careful cutting into it and accidentally eating the plating paper.. also wish they had proper silverware because I feared breaking the plastic every bite. Went to their stall in the Green City farmers market and wow was it amazing. We got the smoked beef bulgogi banh mi sandwich and split it between two people. With tax, it came out to about $20, which seemed a bit pricy at the time but after eating it, it was sooo worth it. The sandwich was decadent and beautifully presented. It's also not a traditional banh mi sandwich, so don't expect that, but rather a fusion of various flavors (as you can probably assume for the bulgogi and banh mi part of the title). They seem rather understaffed relatively to how busy they are and how long it takes to make each drink. I asked for specific modifications (no ice on one drink and no milk in another) and neither of them were correct. It had that earthy matcha flavor I love, and the banana pieces/syrup at the bottom made it so good. The banana crunch and light foam on top were perfect and not overwhelming. I am a huge matcha fanatic and was so excited to check out a new matcha spot / cafe in my neighborhood. But wow. I was so extremely disappointed by my experience at Noble Fat. I went to Noble Fat with two friends, and we all had separate orders. I ordered the mango float as I'm a huge fan of mango matchas. My one friend ordered a veggie lumpia + black sesame latte. My other friend ordered a pork lumpia + mango float. First off, my mango float came out and it looked completely different from my friend's order of mango float. Mine came out sooo much whiter and barely had any green. To me that seems like they just put tiny hints of matcha with all cream. Super irritating because I paid almost $9 total for my matcha. The matcha also did not taste at all ... like matcha. I understand that the mango float came with cold foam, but I kid you not it completely tasted like cream. I only had hints of matcha throughout my drink. The hints of matcha were good at least... Now onto the MOST DISAPPOINTING MOMENT of our entire experience. My friend is a vegetarian and does not eat ANY meat. They called my one friend up and provided her with her full order (a box with "veggie" lumpia + a black sesame latte). Shortly after, they called my other friend up for her order (a pork lumpia + a mango float). They came back to their seats and took a bite out of their lumpias. THE WORKERS SWITCHED UP THEIR ORDERS. My vegetarian friend IMMEDIATELY went to the bathroom to puke out her first bite of meat in YEARS. She also sat there crying in the bathroom. My other friend (the one who ordered the pork lumpia) and I went up to the workers and explained that they switched up their orders and gave my poor VEGETARIAN FRIEND A PORK DISH. They were NOT at all apologetic, asked us what they should "do"/ what we wanted them to do about it, and we had to ASK them to give my vegetarian friend a refund for her food order. They did not apologize at ALL and had the most monotone voice ever. Literally so unacceptable. I understand that mistakes happen, but the way that they handled the situation was so so awful and upsetting. Literally such a horrifying experience. Again, mistakes happen, but they should have at least apologized and offered remedies, THEMSELVES. Their attitude was more so like," okay, so what do you want us to do about it." Awful awful awful. However, the cashier never put in our food order so we waited for 45 minutes because we asked where our food was 30 minutes in and then it was finally placed. Visiting from out of town and like most people stopped by Kasama to get their breakfast sandwich which was very good. The next day my friend from the area suggested we go here to compare their longanisa sandwich. Noble Fats was far and above imo. The runny egg, the gruyere and the pickled onion was the perfect bite. Longanisa was the perfect blend of sweet and savory and the bun toasted to perfection. The fries ruined all future fries for me. Clearly must have been blanched or pre-fried because the exterior crisp was exquisite while the inside was airy and fluffy. They also held they'd texture for the duration of the meal. Cheesecake is never my favorite but their basque style Ube variety still wanders through my dreams. Silky custardy texture and not overpoweringly sweet. I know most people seem to be reviewing the matcha here which was fine but they are missing out on the stars of the show imo. read more

The price of the drink was hefty, and the size was tiny. My drink came out to being about $10, and I finished it in about 2 sips (especially with how much ice they put). The matcha flavor was decent, but the banana cream was really sweet and kind of overpowered. The value just really wasn't there. The matcha at this cafe is not on the sweeter end, so if you like your matcha sweet then I'd recommend asking if they can add sweetener or see if they have some simple syrup out. The rolls were flavorful and well seasoned too. The matcha strawberry is a classic but they did it well. The banana bread - it was a little surprising to suck up actual banana chunks but just goes to show how fresh it is. The banana chunks made it a little difficult to taste the combo of match and banana though. Service was good, lots of people going in and out, we got lucky to snag a table. Would like to preface this by saying that I generally like my matchas unflavored and unsweetened. But I had decided to take a chance and order their seasonal pumpkin pie matcha with slightly less pumpkin jam. The drink was made surprisingly quickly which was great. But I was quite disappointed with the drink itself. The pumpkin spice in the drink didn't mesh well with the matcha at all, was overpowering, and made the whole drink taste like perfume. I could tell that the matcha by itself would've tasted good, so some buyers regret there. We had to wait for people to leave to snag a table big enough for our group. There are so many options on the menu!! I had to ask the barista what she recommends because everything looked great. I got the banana bread matcha and made the mistake of not mixing it before I walked out of the shop, so I drank mostly just regular matcha and ended up saving the banana syrup at the bottom for my coffee the next day. Nonetheless I was not disappointed by this drink; it was some of the best quality matcha I've had. I enjoyed the banana syrup too - it's got a good cinnamon maple flavor too it and isn't super banana forward if that's not your thing. Although the cup was small and about $9.50 for a banana bread matcha with oat milk, I did enjoy it. Due to the price I probably won't be a regular though.
