The service was top notch. I enjoyed the vibe of the place with the dim lighting and low music. We sat near the big windows facing Randolph for a great view of the nightlife. If you sit further inside the dining room, you'll have a nice view of the well-lit kitchen and the amazing chefs. The restaurant was pristine, from the dining room to the bathrooms. All of our food was plated beautifully and felt as if each ingredient was hand-picked to ensure the highest quality. The crispy rice soup warmed me right up. The salmon was perfectly fatty and felt like butter in my mouth, the wagyu dumplings were absolutely delicious with a nice crunch from the chili oil. Here's the bad- which I have learned over the past weeks and from insiders that wish to remain anonymous-is not the norm. We were not shown a menu, or QR code (allegedly it would only show us a splash screen with company logo, our server said) Instead they pick a menu for you. No pricing was discussed (which I came to learn later on was mandatory for their servers) . All we were asked for was allergies and steak or fish preference throughout courses. What was supposed to be a casual Wednesday dinner ended up costing 750 (that amount includes gratuity) we ate it, we loved it. It's what it cost. And we will tip accordingly. FINALLY tried Nobu after wanting to come here for almost a year and always hearing so many good things about this restaurant. The interior is beautiful and very elegant looking. We ordered the salmon tartare with caviar, rock shrimp tempura with ponzu, wagyu dumplings, black cod with miso, lobster/king crab/ribeye tacos and the banana soy toban for dessert. Everything was AMAZING besides the salmon tartare with caviar which I would not order again. I'm not a fan of anything very spicy and this dish came in a wasabi sauce which our server did not mention. All the other dishes were incredible though and now I can understand why this is such a famous restaurant. My 3 best friends and I went to Nobu in West Loop for a girls night out in Chicago. I was looking forward to this dinner for weeks leading up to it. I had recently been to this location's rooftop for drinks and the Nobu Miami, FL location for lunch a few years back while on vacation, and both experiences were memorable. Unfortunately, this past Saturday night's experience at Nobu was not like the other 2 I've had. If I am spending close to $200/person on dinner, I would expect the service to be better than what we experienced. The service was very slow from the second we walked into the restaurant, which didn't make sense because it was not busy for a Saturday night. There is no reason we should have ended up at this dinner for close to 2.5 hours. We got seated at about 7:15 p.m and didn't leave the restaurant until around 10 p.m. We didn't get the opportunity to order our first round of drinks for at least 20 minutes after being seated. The server was no where in sight for us to order the drinks and appetizers. We had gotten a couple cocktails at a restaurant across the street before heading to dinner, and waiting around like that at the beginning completely killed our buzz from the prior restaurant. We were all dead sober by the time we ordered our first round of drinks at Nobu. Additionally, the server only filled 2 glasses of water for us when there were 4 people at the table, so we had to wait around for water for another 20 minutes. This continued on throughout the night with us wanting to order and having to wait around for quite a bit of time before anyone took down our next round. Despite the slow service, I will say the food at Nobu is fantastic. We ordered a mixture of shared dishes, sushi, and dessert in addition to some of the signature cocktails. I ordered the cocktail of the month with rum that was delicious. The food/drinks I would give 5 stars, while the service no more than 2 stars. If you have no where to be on a Saturday night and are willing to wait around for a dragged out dinner, Nobu in West Loop is the place for you. However, if you have places to be, and are looking for a kick start to a night out in Chicago, I would recommend looking elsewhere before booking a reservation. read more

There's great service, and then there's Anjeline. Her knowledge of menu astounded me, and I left the dinner feeling as if I spent the night in Japan. The stand out dish of the night was the sea bass dry miso, which I would've never tried if not for our servers rec. Came here on a Thursday night with a friend. The atmosphere was amazing and I would recommend this place for a date night or girls night. I was disappointed to find out they were out of a lot of their Japanese whiskeys, because that's part of the reason I chose this place for dinner and drinks. The food was good. My favorite is obviously the waygu potstickers. They're arguably the best dumplings I've ever had. The rest of the meal was good, and came out pretty fast. I liked my overall dining experience and would recommend others to try it out too but Nothing about it wowed me in a sense that I would want to dine here again only because food (taste and presentation) is not worth its price at this location. Great service staff and ambiance though! Ordered wagyu tacos, which my husband loved. I liked the lobster tacos. Did not like crab tacos so much. Rockstar shrimp with creamy sauce- most other reviewers love it but I don't agree with the hype. I love shrimps in general and rockstar shrimp was just a basic dish. Baby corn roasted-just an okay side dish. Wagyu steak- really liked the texture, buttery taste of wagyu. Flavor wise, can't say much. Wagyu tacos tasted better than the steak. Ordered the soy banana dessert, it was just ok too. Nobu is an expensive restaurant so expectations are higher when dining at such places. and the chef at this particular location of Nobu needs to step up to make their food better! read more

The tacos were delicious but extermely small and literally gone in one bite. Prices seemed to be very high even for a higher end restaurant. Our waitress was friendly but the staff needs training. We waited long time for someone to show up at our table with even water and then take a drink order later. the drinks are amazingly good but again VERY high priced for the small portions. Disgusting I am in shock. I have left my car at the valet parking for 3 hours, and come back with the car damaged and patched up. We had a dinner celebration of about 20 people at NOBU and few family members staying at the hotel. We all went to dinner ate and went home at around 10:45pm. Once I woke went outside to walk my dog, realized my car was not only damaged but they had tried to hide it and put touch up paint. I know a million percent this happened at NOBU as 2 hours prior to dinner the car was detail cleaned with not a scratch on it. The answer to my problem is " you left with out noticing the damage" yes because it was dark, and you painted with white paint over the black scratch. I am just disappointed that such a high end restaurant would use valet services that not only damage your car but also have the nerve to try and hide it with touch up paint. read more

The Nobu restaurant is conveniently located inside the Nobu Hotel in the West Loop, with an entrance on the south side of the building leading into a small vestibule with two large rooms off to either side. To the left is the bar and lounge area, and to the right is the main dining area with a long sushi bar and prep kitchen resting at the furthest end, booths along either side, and tables scattered throughout the rest of the room. Upon entering Nobu I walked to the host stand where I was asked what my preference of seating would be. As I had seen booths in pictures online I enquired if it would be possible to have a booth, which the hostess replied would be possible. No more than a minute later I was led off by the hostess into the middle of the bar/lounge area, surrounded by tables of people having drinks. I was slightly confused since there were no booths or even real tables, but after a moment the hostess remarked "Oh, they must've moved things around, I can get you a seat or you can sit at the sushi bar?". Albeit confused by the fact that there was literally no place for dining to be seen in the room, I decided on the sushi bar. As I was about to sit down, I noticed multiple open booths a couple feet away and asked if it would be possible to have one of them. One booth was already set, but instead I was given the identical booth next to it, which had to be cleared and set. As I stood next to the table waiting, a different hostess told me to follow her, so I did. She led me back into the bar/lounge area and I was left standing in the bar area for no apparent reason yet again. No more than a minute later, the hostess returned and led me back to my table. The food I ordered came relatively quick and was as follows: Mushroom Soup - 12 No complaints, a simple warm broth with many types of mushrooms. Tuna Tacos - 16 I can tell these are very popular, as they tasted amazing. I assume the other taco flavors taste equally good, although I question the price for how small the portion is, especially for the Wagyu tacos costing $30 for 2. New Style Sashimi - 28 The new style sashimi was nothing but average. I would easily pass on this dish given the price for paper thin slices of salmon with a tasty but relatively simple sauce of soy/oil. King Crab Tempura Amazu Tosazu - 40 Probably one of the best dishes of the night. Perfectly tempura crusted chunks of King Crab with fresh greens on top and a sauce/broth poured over. I was not only surprised by the quality of the King Crab, but how well balanced everything the dish was. Fish & Chips' Nobu Style - 28 The tempura coating on the fish was excellent. The chips however were made of tempura coated potato and sweet potato that tasted like wet crayons, which was disappointing. Blueberry Sake Bavarian - 17 My favorite dish of the night by far. Everything went together so perfectly in such a unique combination of creative and well balanced flavors that I was honestly surprised this came from the same restaurant all the previous dishes had come from. It's at this point that I will go over all the other problems with the meal: Firstly, there were multiple chefs who would just not keep their masks on. One such chef I could see working on food in the open prep kitchen without his mask on for almost an hour after he had initially taken it off around the time I sat down. I'm not sure why everybody else has to wear a mask if a couple of the chefs seem to think they are exempt from it. I observed almost all the other staff, including all chefs at the sushi bar, never remove their mask even one time. There were multiple lapses in service, for example when the New Style Sashimi arrived, there was a steak dish set down on my table and I had to inform them that I didn't order it after they were done explaining what it was. When my King Crab Tempura arrived, the server who poured the sauce over it at the table somehow managed to stumble and let their bare hand fall on to the top of the dish for a second which was a little bit gross. I ate it anyways, but it felt somewhat unsanitary. Lastly, my waiter asked me if I would like any dessert to which I politely had to remind her I had already picked something when I initially ordered everything else. All in all, Nobu was a letdown. On some level the blunders discussed here can be attributed to how new the restaurant is, but this is not what I'd expect from Nobu after all that I heard about the restaurant. At the end of the day, for a meal that cost $145 before tax/tip, I felt there just should have been more than a couple good dishes, a great dessert, and poor service. read more

I took my boyfriend to Nobu Chicago to celebrate his birthday. We had an amazing dining experience. We were directed to a great table by the beautiful and warm hostess, Arielle. Nina, our server, very knowledgeable about the menu, made wonderful suggestions that were truly amazing! Especially loved the Yellowtail Jalapeno -- so good! The drinks we had were made to perfection. Bishop, the consummate professional, presented and explained the desserts. Shout out to the pastry chefs, the desserts were sinful! From the moment I stepped Into the lobby and was warmly greeted and escorted to the restaurant to the end of the experience where both managers thanked me for coming in, was flawless. I had a full dining experience at the bar. Jorge is next level. I've been to many Nobus and Matsuhisa, so my expectation is high, and he catered my experience beautifully. Showing me new dishes exclusive to Chicago and took me on a journey of flavors based around my preferences. Since I was dining alone he tailored the portions so I could still experience many different dishes. The standout for me was his incredible finesse with the cocktails. So well balanced, unique, and story driven. Julian was also behind the bar and though he wasn't personally taking care of me, he was engaging and telling me back stories about people there like the amazing pastry chef. Who by the way created a blueberry dessert that is the best dessert I've ever had at a nobu. Thank you to the managers Patrick and Kasey who stopped by to say hello and gave me a tour of the rooftop experience. Such a lovely touch they both took the time to show me what Chicago Nobu is all about. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. My wife had a special birthday night out with some friends tonight. I tried to do something nice for her and her friends by ordering (and paying for in advance) a nice bottle of Prosecco or wine to be at the table when they arrived. I was informed by the hostess on the phone that management doesn't allow this, and that they "have a policy". It seems to me like a pretty standard thing to allow, especially if you're a purported fine dining establishment that wants patrons to come back.
