Honestly, not very good. I was incredibly disappointed by this restaurant. I thought the vibes of the restaurant were very nice, and the staff were friendly, but the food was severely underwhelming. The price, I'd argue, is a bit unreasonable for 4 dumplings/gyoza, just for them to be mid at best. Of all the times we selected, the biggest let down was the spicy sticky wings/mooshu, and the best was probably the soup dumplings. I REALLY wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but maybe my flavor pallet just didn't match the vibe of this restaurant.

I had a lovely dinner here on a first date. We had a 4:30 reservation because that was the only time available, yet we really wanted to try this place. Gorgeous decor, and excellent service. Everything was family style, which we enjoyed. We started with the jiaozi and spring rolls, then had the duck fried rice, which we'd read had great reviews. Everything was delicious! Make a reservation early because this place was absolutely packed with people waiting outside by the time we left.

We came here around 4:30pm on a Saturday and were seated right away at a table. Our waiter was really friendly and gave us recommendations. We ordered two dim sum and two entrees like he recommended for two people to share. We started off with the Jiaozi and wow, they were so delicious and definitely my favorite dish that we ordered. Next, my bf wanted to get something with duck/goat in it (I've never tried duck or goat so I was a bit hesitant). He decided to get the duck and goat spring rolls, and I tried a tiny bite with it dipped in the pineapple jam/sauce. The sauce was really good, but I still don't know how I feel about goat or duck lol. For entrees, we got the pork belly (hongshao rou) and they serve it with assorted pickled veggies plus mandarin pancakes. The pork belly was soo tender. We also got the dan dan slap noodles. I love that we were able to watch them through the window making the noodles by hand. Our waiter gave us some cookies for free when he brought us our check! I definitely want to come back for the jiaozi

As an avid Stephanie Izard fan, Duck Duck Goat has been on my Chicago must-try list for a long time! Finally my schedule, bank account, and the weather all lined up to try brunch at this West Loop spot. Like everywhere else at Fulton Market, be prepared for parking to be what parking is going to be here! There are some paid street spots, I also think there is a garage somewhere, and it is noted that Duck Duck Goat does not offer valet. The restaurant is in a super chic corner spot in Fulton Market, with a very picturesque little patio dining space out front. I had a reservation and arrived just a couple minutes early; we were greeted as soon as we walked in and taken to a table without any wait. I absolutely love the inside of this restaurant. Our table was a half booth/half chair two-top in the front window. There is so much rich color and decoration, and it really feels pretty intimate - I think this is a great date spot. The brunch menu has some amazing food options, and the service was very friendly but not overbearing. We started with an order of the crab rangoon to share between both of us, and then the pork fried rice omelette and the bacon and egg moo shu as brunch entrees. This is a dim sum restaurant and the plates are more of a style to be small bites and/or shared plates, and portion size definitely reflects such! Also because of this style, the dishes came out as they were ready, not all together "as entrees". The crab rangoons were incredible - the mascarpone filling is tart and bright to counter the briny crab and the pineapple sweet and sour is incredibly craveable. I will dream about this omelette for the rest of my life. The richness of the pork and the savoryness of the fried rice paired with fluffy egg, piled high with a texture bomb of accoutrements like crispy fried onions, (fresno?) chilis, and picked red onions. This is one of the best bites in the city. The moo shu had perfectly made sunny side up eggs with the richest egg yolks. All the veggies were cooked perfect, I loved the lotus root in the veggie mix. I love that our reservation wasn't rushed, and the service was really nice. We both said before even finishing our brunch that we wanted to come back and try dinner. Also a super cute touch, we were given complimentary little almond cookies after we were done. Thank you so much, Duck Duck Goat, for a wonderful brunch date! We will see you soon for dinner!

I loved Girl & the Goat so I had high expectations for this one, but it didn't hit the same. Vibes were nice. Dim lighting with cool Chinese decor, but more casual and louder than I expected for a place that looks this nice. Still a fun energy though. Service was great. Super friendly, consistent water refills, and I liked how they explained each dish when bringing it out. 8.5/10. Food was kinda hit or miss and a little overhyped tbh. The Chai'd and True cocktail was strong but smooth and sweet. 8.5/10. The Xi'an goat slap noodles were really good. Thick, chewy, perfectly al dente, just a little oily. 8/10. The grilled beef & broccoli was my favorite. Broccoli had the perfect texture, beef felt like actual steak, and the sauce was super unique. 8.5/10. Everything else was more mid. Crab Rangoon had a citrus flavor I didn't love. 6.5/10. Spring rolls were crispy and meaty but the filling itself wasn't great. 6.5/10. Chongqing chicken was just okay, basically popcorn chicken with Sichuan flavor. 6/10. The crispy banana dumplings were the best way to end the meal. Tasted like a peach banana cobbler inside a crispy wonton shell. 9/10. Overall, a fun and popular spot, but I expected more flavor-wise.

This meal was unreal. If I went again I'd have to get the Jiaozi and xiao long bao again. The beef and broccoli had such thick pieces of tender steak with perfectly cooked broccoli topped with crispy onions. We also got the Dan Dan slap noodles and they were unbelievably fresh and delicious.

December 2022 (9.3/10): The vibe at this place is really cute and honestly would be a great place for a bunch of people. I think overall out of the dishes we got, I was very happy with the quality. The xiao long bao were incredible and the broth inside was delicious. The duck fried rice was also incredible as the duck tasted great, but was salty. Scallion pancakes were fine. Both cocktails were also yummy! We were sad we didn't get the pitcher of the stranger things drink. The dessert we got was also so flavorful and creamy. February 2026 (8.2/10): Finally came back and while I really still do love this place, I'm dropping the score. This time I tried the green beans and the beef dumplings and both of those dishes are lovely, potentially even the best two dishes served. However, they are fully just small appetizers. The mapo tofu is edible, but it's not something I'd order again here. The duck fried rice is still absurdly salty, but this time I've had a lot more duck and know what it tastes like to know it shouldn't be THAT salty.

We came and it was a wait but they were so kind in getting us to our table to giving us complimentary shishito peppers and bubbles. Thank you! Their food was absolutely amazing. Got their glass noodles and it was so much flavors and filled with mushroom and pineapple which was unique. Our waitress was so nice and gave us the recommendation for a lychee martini which was good but really wished they would have added a lychee in it. The shishito peppers were nice and hot and crunchy. The veggie spring rolls was our favorite, it was long and savory. We also had their shrimp dish and tofu which both were so good. Loved how their dishes were filled with so much flavors and very crunchy. The banana dumplings were absolutely so good, would definitely recommend getting it. A Carmel swirl ice cream with a banana filling in the dumplings but it was more like a crab rangroon. The ambiance inside was so nicely decorated and much bigger than you see from outside. There's like three rooms one towards the front. You can also sit at the bar area as well.

The food here was very very good! As a vegetarian, I absolutely loved the options and everything was super flavorful. The portions are also very good (except the potstickers which are way too expensive for the portion and don't feel as worth it). The string beans were my absolute favorite--they are packed with flavor and a great portion for sharing.

I was in on Monday for Restaurant Week and lowkey for the past eight years that I've been in Chicago, Duck Duck Goat has ALWAYS been on my list. So, was happy to finally make landfall. The inside of the restaurant is quite cool, with very moody lighting, which, if you're familiar with any of my other work here, you know I adore. Decor is chic and very Fulton Market, but not in a cheugy way. Service was constant, this staff is trained all the way up, like we were taken care of! New plating was coming out routinely, water was constantly topped, and always being checked in on. Did not go unnoticed. The restaurant week menu itself offered quite a bit of variety, though we ventured outside of its bounds into the realm of à la carte. The RW deal was $60 and was totally prix-fix, so you don't really get to choose what comes out, which was fine because it was all excellent. What was brought out was pork sichuan jiaozi, (which was a pork potsticker, very meaty but in a good way), shengjian bao (pork baos), duck & goat spring rolls, which were not overly ducky nor goaty but a good combination of the two. Green beans came out next, which were seasoned with black bean garlic sauce, fried shallots, and cashews (my second favorite dish of the evening). The final entree as part of the deal was beef slap noodles, which were made with a very good short rib ragu and super chewy noodles! Dessert was citrus tea baobing, which essentially was shaved ice, ice cream, and condensed milk - I liked it, but would not go out of my way to order it, like it was fine. Not on the RW menu, we ordered the scallion pancakes, duck fried rice (which came with a duck egg!), and the chilly chili noodles (which imo were the best thing I ate that night). The fried rice was memorable, and the scallion pancakes were like buttery - but I don't think I'd order them again. Good but not crazy. At the end of the meal, the sodium and MSG kinda got to me, so drink lots of water, but very good otherwise.

Made a reservation to celebrate an anniversary and asked for a peking duck to be reserved for us. That's what we went in to try. I got there a little early but they were very accommodating and offered us to wait at the bar until our table was ready. It was ready within 5 minutes. We took our drinks and sat. Our server was so lovely and explained everything well. She mentioned they had a restaurant week menu but that we also had a duck reserved. We ordered fried rice, chilly chili noodles and veg egg rolls. Everything was so delicious. The duck skin was nice and crispy but the meat was so tender. The chilly chili noodles were just the right amount of spice and the eggroll filling was amazing. I will definitely be back as it's such a beautiful and delicious restaurant.

I've always enjoyed Chinese food in unassuming hole-in-the-wall restaurants, so I never thought to visit Duck Duck Goat until recently. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and service was terrific as well. I came with a group of seven and we shared the crab rangoon, jiaozi, xiao long bao, duck fried rice, Xi'an goat slap noodles, mapo doufu, grilled beef and broccoli, and Chongqing chicken. Every dish was either okay or too salty for me, and I just did not like the xiao long bao. Maybe it was my fault for ordering it, but I just did not love the gamey taste of the filling. I think if I had to pick favorites, it would be the goat slap noodles and jiaozi. I really enjoyed the chewy texture of the noodles but the sauce was on the saltier side. In short, Duck Duck Goat is pricey Chinese-American food with terrific ambiance suitable only for West Loop real estate, but if you are looking for good Chinese food without the drama and flair, I'd probably look elsewhere.

Eclectic fusion restaurant that transports you somewhere like Shanghai. Each room has its own theme and color scheme, making you feel like you've stepped onto the set of an 80s Chinese movie. Service was great, attentive and friendly, though I found the food a bit underwhelming - probably because I came in with very high expectations as a huge fan of Girl & the Goat. This review focuses on their brunch options only. Crab Rangoon: 6/10 Standard rangoons, similar to what you'd get at Panda Express. The mango chutney-style sauce on the side was a nice touch, but the filling lacked crab and felt mostly like a cream cheese puff pastry. Duck and Goat Egg Rolls: 7.5/10 I really liked this. The mustard sauce and mango chutney paired nicely, though they were a bit small and didn't have a lot of filling. Cucumber: 8/10 Vinegary, slightly spicy, and flavourful. The cucumbers were cut unevenly, but the dish was refreshing and a nice palate cleanser between heavier dishes. Xiao Long Bao: 6/10 A bit bland. Nothing particularly memorable here. Oxtail Dumplings: 9/10 My favorite dish of the brunch. Generous filling and packed with flavor - definitely a highlight for me. Pork Fried Rice: 7.5/10 A bit overwhelming. More like an omelette with rice rolled in, topped with pickled onions, fried shallots, jalapenos, and other veggies. The rice and egg alone would have been fine and the extra toppings felt like too much and distracted from the dish. Hong Kong French Toast: 6/10 Decent, but I didn't love that peanut butter was sandwiched between the toast. Might be someone else's favourite, but not my cup of tea.

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. Went here on a whim last night after reading all the glowing reviews on Yelp. Before that, I…read morechecked out a few eateries on the 4th floor of the Nordstrom building, but nothing really stood out, and honestly, none of them seemed very busy and the one restaurant Lao Sze Chuan was way too expensive, $30+ entrees were average and the place wasn't busy at all. So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.

We arrived just as doors were opening for lunch, and sat at the bar for apps and drinks. The lycheetini here is my fave, but be aware it is a potent drink. The lychee in the glass is a treat for the finish. Steamed Dim sum and crab rangoon are good and generous portions. You cannot go wrong with anything shrimp. Our bar tender/server (Fiona, I believe?) surprised my daughter with a birthday treat, sesame balls with a candle, which was so sweet! We had early dinner reservations so we did not stay for lunch, but I look forward to returning for a full meal. Great location on MI Ave!

Came here mainly for the duck and it did NOT disappoint…read more The vibes were better than expected for a Chinese spot. Nice sit-down feel, pretty comfortable. 7.5/10. Service was fine, nothing standout but about what I expected. 6/10. The Peking duck was the highlight. Crispy skin, juicy meat, and tasted super high quality. Only thing is the cucumbers weren't the freshest and I wish there was a bit more seasoning, but still amazing. 9.7/10. Easily up there with some of the best in Chicago. The other dishes didn't hit as much. The cumin lamb had great flavor but was way too fatty and oily. 4/10. The dry chili chicken had a nice crispy texture but also too oily. 6.5/10. Both weren't very spicy either. Overall, come here for the duck and you'll have a great time.
