This was a fantastic restaurant experience! Went here for my husbands birthday on a Weds night. We were immediately seated and the ambiance was quite serene. Our server went over the menu because we had never been there, and shared the option of a personalized menu in which they bring out several dishes. All we had to do was tell them our budget and foods we liked. The food was brought out like tapas and there was not 1 dish that wasn't flavorful, textured, and overall delicious. We went to the Rooftop. I had an amazing time & our server Maryam made it even better. The staff was very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. The food was prepared so delicately but packed some serious flavor. I highly recommend the Waygu mini tacos and the toro truffle. If you want a nice view, you have to go around to the back of the patio area which, unfortunately, looks closed. All in all, I had a great time and an awesome experience. Omg The rooftop is undescribable! Excellent service, excellent views, so much fun there for the Sunday brunch party. The DJ they fly in is from California and he is so great! Everybody at the hotel was super friendly and helpful. The food no matter where we ate it was amazing. The rooms were clean and fresh and they were constantly checking in on us. My friend and I got the ribeye with butter besides the waiter telling us we had to get it at a temperature below medium they also took about an hour and a half to bring them out. The taste of the steak was just not good! It tasted like old meat, not sure what could have happened. They usually are so good in my hometown. Likewise the sushi and bites all under seasoned and not made to the specs you would come to expect from Nobu. The waitress was very sweet, that's why I put 2 stars because she saw everything and was very helping and understanding. Wagyu in the dumplings extremely under seasoned. Celebrated our anniversary at Nobu last night, and had such a delicious, fantastic meal. We were skeptical that part of the hype (and cost) would be for ambiance and the name, but we were very impressed by the food and felt it lived up to the reputation. They offer an a la carte menu to choose from or they recommend letting the chef choose options (after confirming food preferences, budget, etc), and after being overwhelmed by the menu options, we chose the latter. The food was coursed from cold to hot dishes but paradoxically ended with a sushi plate. Not sure that fit with the progression otherwise, but I didn't hate it. Each dish was delicious and tasted better than the last. Standouts to us were the salmon belly, the crab tempura, and the ribeye. I would not visit this place again. There is so many other sushi places that far surpass nobu. I expected amazing sushi and stellar service for the price tag, and it fell extremely short. On top of that their lychee martini was extremely weak. We probably did 3 or 4 rounds of drinks, and this was a huge waste of money. We sat in the lounge area, reservation for 5 In November. Arguably the best meal I can remember. Every single bite - literally - was devine. Even the edamame was the best I've ever had. One of the top meals I have had in my life! Our waiter Jean-David made our experience even better (ask to be seated in his section). He recommended the Omakase and each course was even more delish than the next! The most impressive dish of wagyu beef and king crab leg was quite a show! Ambitious fusion menu, noisy interior, a strangely famous place in Chicago. As for food - hits and misses, portions are generally small. Black Cod, Wagyu Dumplings, and Shrimp Spicy Garlic were great. Really great! The steak - don't remember what kind and I could not guess by the looks alone - was tough as leather and served rarer than the rare. Sushi are priced to avoid, what I tried was not in any way special. All in all, a so-so value, but if you must visit, don't expect miracles. read more

Lobster tacos, although tasty, very small for the price point. Sushi was a miss, not the best in this city and the soy sauce for some reason is way more salty than any other soy sauce I have tried. I had a similar experience to Amie J. and Esther K. (reviews of 8/28/21 and 2/3/22, respectively), dining at Nobu Chicago, so won't elaborate on most details. What I will mention is the fact that, although nicely plated, the fish (raw and cooked) did not appear to be the freshest. Given the fact that I dined there on a weekend night, made that fact quite surprising. I experienced a really bad stomach ache the next morning and was sick for the next couple of days, but because I wasn't absolutely positive the source was their fish, I did not follow up with the restaurant. As this was my first time dining at Nobu Chicago, I will assume that the experience above was due to the pandemic and that they are experiencing shortages in food deliveries, as well as staffing. The hostess was extremely nice and professional though. Although a child, I remember when there was only the one US location of Nobu in NYC and my family (as well as friends of) always had to call exactly one month to the day ahead to make a reservation. This was Nobu's policy. From what I remember all of the food was spot on, every visit. I will try them again sometime in the future on another trip to Chicago and hope for a better experience. read more

I had 2 Pina Martinis because they were out of the Lyre Liar (We went at 5pm, I wish I knew why they were out of one of their signature drinks) Now on to the bs. I was there celebrating my birthday yesterday, the waitress (whose name I don't remember) offered us a custom menu 2x. To which we declined because 2/4 people in our party (one being me) have a crazy amount of allergies, including shellfish and soybeans. Why dine at Nobu then? Because I love sushi, have heard it referenced on SATC, and can eat other types of seafood. As soon as we turned down the custom menu, quality of service went further south each time she came back. I had the New Style Salmon Sashimi which was honestly not my taste, so I sent it back after eating one piece. Another person in my party ordered the lamp chops, which she loved. The grilled salmon and fried veggies someone else ordered were mediocre at best, she sent those back. On to the service now- When it came time to pay the bill, we were told that we couldn't do separate checks, but we could do up to as many cards. Cool. We had the device that many restaurants are using nowadays to pay different parts of the bill. The waitress hovered around each of us as we paid our portions of the bill and tipped. And I mean hovered. If she was worried about one of us (or all of us) running off, the restaurant literally had my card on file because of the reservation. All in all, shitty treatment and mediocre food from a place I've been dying to try. And yes, the whole party was black. read more

So the first time I went to this location was in the middle of winter during the pandemic with out door seating. Despite being cold, it was by far one of my best dining experiences. The waiter was charismatic and took us through our dining experience. He took over and gave the best recommendations and made us feel at home. So when indoor dining opening back up, I was so excited to come back and enjoy the food in a better climate. The experience was not the same. They were missing things on the menu. WOW. Yes, absolutely the best sushi we have had hands down!! While we expected to eat more, we ended up only enjoying a few cut rolls of sushi as the flavor was on point! Highly recommend the house roll-- extremely good and includes all salmon, tuna, and other fish. Had the lychee martini which was also very delicious and the service was excellent. If you're going in hungry, expect to drop a few hundreds, we only spent $160 as we had a late lunch, though had we been more hungry we would have absolutely continued to eat, and I am most certain enjoy. read more

We ordered the Omakase for our table, and the food was amazing. But I found the staff and service to be quite pretentious. Definitely not the atmosphere of other top end restaurants in Chicago. Unless Nobu brings an attitude adjustment to their guest experience, I doubt they'll be around in a year. There are just too many other great choices in Chicago for high end dining. read more

Shouldve figured its just a hype. we went for omakase. the server unfortunately sold us on trying the customized menu by saying they will craft a menu based on our preferred tastes. they would ask us questions and then supposedly the chefs will collaborate on a custom menu. Sounds fun!..... we were asked three generic simple questions. 1. do you like spicy food 2. do you like seafood 3. do you like your steak medium rare Pretty boring to me... we were then presented with nothing more than shared serving sizes of whats exactly on their standard menu. after taxes and tip...4 of us each paid $200. Pro Tip: Call in the morning to reserve. Do not use open table as it has never worked for this particular restaurant in my experience. It seems to be glitched. Do not try to reserve a table after 5pm. Seating and Dining area: Prior to arrival we received a text reminding us of our reservations and again not to take longer than two hours. We were lead to the table by a friendly host who was eager to help. The hostess reminded us of *Drum Roll* not to take longer than two hours :) The Dining area was very opulent. We sat on a nice two person table that was a part of a booth. The table was was adorned with meticulously placed chop sticks, and a small porcelain soy sauce dispenser that resembled a tea cup (very cute). The ceiling had charming glass leaves hanging throughout. Crystallized and reflective for your perfect viewing pleasure. The lighting was placed precisely over head drawing the focus to the exquisite culinary experience you are about to partake in. The waiter was there exactly when you needed him. He was there before you even realized you needed assistance. I can say with certainty that the staff prides themselves on their great service. He was experienced and familiar with all the menu items which was a relief, considering it was our first time there. We are very grateful for that. The staff did an excellent job at clearing the table when it needed to be cleared, and they were able to pace our food perfectly spaced apart as we requested. I don't particularly recall ever feeling impatient or hungry for the next food item. The table was cleared immediately and the next delicious entree places promptly after. The food and Drinks: Sake: The selection of sake was much longer and more convenient that your typical Japanese restaurant. Options ranged from creamy, to more fruity flavors and wine type preparation. We opted for the TK40 premium and Junmai type. The TK 40 was a bit powerful and the Junmai was perfectly palpable which I highly recommend. Yellowtail Jalapeño; Im personally a big fan of sashimi but unfortunately my partner is not. Having said this, we both absolutely loved the sashimi. It came sliced to mouth sized bites and placed on a bed of a citrus based soy sauce. The jalapeño spice kicks in at the end, perfectly timed and not over powering. Waiter recommended this and I'm happy he did. Fried Okra: I was quite pleasantly suprised to see this on the menu. Completely unexpected but it's probably now, one of my favorite menu items of ALL TIME. Fried in Tempura style to the exact amount of crunch and melt in your mouth parameters needed to bring extreme joy to you. It pairs so beautifully with the garlic ponzu sauce. This sauce btw, is absolutely magically. Upon examining the flavors, the possibilities in my head ran rampant. King Crab Tacos: A very interesting menu item. The tacos were bite sized and topped with caviar. This item maybe small but it packs a powerful punch. Blended and assorted flavors that present themselves in a synchronized fashion, it will surprise the most experienced of taste buds in the most delightful of ways. The crab comes with delicate textures, followed by a whorl of buttery goodness. Just when you thought you were done, you are hit with fresh lime thats complemented it so well within the crunchy taco shell goodness. Black Cod: The sweet glazed signature black cod came in on an artistically designed platter. The cod was cooked to perfection with flakes on the sides for a hint of crunchy love. In my mind I couldn't help but picture the chef holding a blow torch to the fish, attempting to achieve the perfect amount of char. The fish came at a temperature that upon placing on top of your tongue, simply melts and diffuses away into the surroundings. The flaky chunk of charred cod exterior challenges you to peel away at the layers. The smooth and delicate interior supplies you with the warmth and love you never knew you needed. Sushi Platter: Blue Fin Taro- The cuts of blue fin were authentic and imbued with oceanic fatty goodness. It does complement the human palate pretty well. Considering this tuna is the rarest of them all, the portions were actually pretty generous with this one. California and Salmon avocado roll- The sushi was really good. Ingredients were clearly freshly prepared and handled with love. Wasabi and Ginger: To my delightful astonishment, the wasabi used must have been imported from Japan. It was more akin to the sushi experience I was lucky enough to have in Japan. The real wasabi has intricate textures with hints of sweetness and mint and Nobu sure did deliver. The ginger was also very high quality. To the staff and chefs of this fine establishment, my sincerest appreciation and gratitude go out to you. Our server was incredible. He started by getting our budget, our favorite flavors, and asking anything we should avoid. He then preceded to construct a specific menu with the chefs based on those suggestions. After each portion, we would reassess how we were enjoying it and make adjustments along the way. He was so timely in exchanging dishes and refilling drinks, and incredibly kind and friendly. Me and my wife finished our meal with an incredible dessert and had no hesitation in giving him as generous of a tip as we could muster. The food of course was immaculate. Flavors were bursting, textures varied, and the transitions between each course were flawless. Flavors fed one another, textures complimented, and even the temperature was a perfect bell curve.
