Lots of sushi in a self serve, ala carte option for sushi. Fast, reasonably priced. We shared about 15 different types of sushi, all very tasty. Can't decide what you want? Get one of everything. They also do push pops. Very casual dining, counter style eat in available. Grab it, eat and go. Do it. No public bathroom which is nuts to me... I want to wash my hands before I eat, not an option here without imposing on a neighboring business. Bring wipes or hand sanitizer I guess, then enjoy the food.

VERY expensive. $17+ for one roll especially when there are other restaurants that exist where you can get AYCE sushi for $25. You are definitely paying for the novelty of the "push Pop" served sushi. It is such a fun and unique package and presentation. The sushi by weight was ok. The sushi appeared fresh and was convenient. Staff were friendly. There is very limited seating which made patrons very aggressive about getting a seat. There was a bar top along the window and maybe 10 high stools.

Wow, I was so excited to see this concept pop up in Chicago. I had been to a similar place in Seattle and it was good. Okay, so there are pros and cons to this concept: the one obvious one is that you don't know how long it's been sitting out. Also the rolls don't have descriptions. However, when I went everything was pretty fresh. I enjoyed my experience. There was a cashier available to help answer questions about the rolls. He also got me miso soup, which was steaming hot. The rice ratio was perfect as well. I was able to snag a seat at the counter, but I could only imagine if it were busy, you'd have to find somewhere else to eat. Not a big deal in the summer but in the winter and freezing temps, it's not convenient. Pretty easy experience just grab the tongs and a tray and choose whatever you want. Will definitely be coming back! Also, there's another place in Chicago w a similar concept, this one trumps that place by farrr.

I really love the concept of sushi by weight. It's perfect for a quick lunch when you don't want to commit to a full sit-down meal. My husband and I each grabbed a small tray of sushi, and it came out to about $30 total, which felt very reasonably priced for what we got. They offer a good selection of cooked and raw rolls and nigiri, which I appreciated, and there's counter seating if you want to eat there. Since we spent over $15, we were supposed to get a free miso soup, but we had to ask for it. The cashier seemed a bit lost and didn't automatically offer it. As for the sushi itself, the fish was okay, which feels fair given this is basically a fast-food sushi spot. I did notice a slightly fishy aftertaste, though. The nigiri had way too much rice, but I just cut off about half of it and that helped. Also worth noting, the wasabi paste is super intense, so use sparingly.

I was super surprised about this place. I've never been to this kind of set up. They a bunch or rolls out for you to pick from and take what you like on your plate. Or you can pick a full roll and they put it in a fun push up . The service was cool. They only have a couple seats inside.

Cute little place. Not too much seating but they also have to go containers. Great place to get sushi quick and try lots of things. Nice variety. You grab a container/tray and a pair of tongs and get what you want. You pay by the weight and I had a full tray and was able to try so many things for a reasonable price. Friendly service.

My 2nd time here and I enjoyed it more then the first time. The sushi was fresh as we came right after opening. We had the push sushi this time and really liked it. I'd be back more often but no longer work in the area.

Visited here to try the new push sushi . It was really good. Tried the hot Cheeto one. I was able to dine inside. They have a great assortment of complimentary sauces and ginger slices. Service was great, and the ambiance was good too.

    Vicky H.

If you are craving for suishi and something quick, this is the place! Self-serve and pay by weight. Good selections of rolls and a smaller selection of nigiri, but all the basic kinds are available. In case you don't see what you want, just ask (I asked about unagi nigiri and they made a fresh tray). Inside the place, it has about 10 along-the-window bar seats. Cups of water is available for free. It is a clean, simple atmosphere! I will definitely be back!

Cute concept. Funky interior. Amazing sushi. Those are three phrases that describe Umi Sushi. When I heard a new, pick your own sushi spot opened I knew I wanted to try it. And boy did it deliver. The price is based on the weight. I paid $8 for mine. There is a good selection - both raw and cooked. The flavors from what I picked were all so tasty. They have free sauces, one of which was a spicy mayo, that was just amazing. This may be my new go-to spot when I am craving some sushi! I highly recommend it.

Can you guess the weight? No, silly, not my weight. The weight of my sushi. Have you heard of Umi Sushi? Umi Sushi Chicago just opened a new location in chicago two months ago at 60 E Jackson Blvd. Here the sushi is priced by the weight. You mix and match your sushi, take as little or as much as you please. There's a lot to choose from, something for everyone! The sushi is constantly being restocked so it's always fresh and delicious. Umi Sushi is open Monday thru Saturday from 10:30 am to8 pm and Sundays 11 am to 7 pm.

    Otto V.

Found the perfect spot to satisfy your sushi cravings! Umi Sushi Chicago is located at 60 E Jackson Boulevard Whether you want a light lunch, or a full dinner, here you don't have to worry about leftovers. You buy by the weight. If you didn't have enough you can go back and buy a few more ounces. The selection is so large it's impossible to try everything on the first trip, even if you try to, and believe me, I did! This way, you also get to choose a variety of sushi. Don't let this no-frills self serve minimalistically decorated location fool you, their sushi packs a ton of flavor in each bite.

Fellow sushi lovers will know to struggle: you look at the menu and you want to try one of everything. But there are only so many pieces you can eat, so you settle on two or three if you're particularly hungry. Umi Sushi makes it so that you no longer have to choose! You take any pieces you want and pay by weight. To say I love this concept would be a gross understatement. I have come back again and again. Further, as they are in their soft opening, I can't wait to see what is in store as they iron out the kinks. For good: they have a fair selection of both raw and cooked options, the quality of the fish and rice is great, and the prices are reasonable given the area and product. I found the service to be friendly also. For improvement, it would help to include descriptions rather than just names - "T-Rex Roll" sounds fun, but what's in it? While customers can ask, this slows things down during a busy lunch rush. Additionally, many pieces rely heavily on crab sticks, which I find to be a lower-quality ingredient that detracts from the overall experience. Though that's partly my personal preference. Lastly, some pieces tended to fall apart too easily. All of this said, while Umi Sushi is not a destination in my opinion, it is perfect for a weekday lunch! It's healthier, you're able to get as much or as little as you want, and because of the self-service nature, the line can move a lot faster than a place that has to cook/assemble your food.

I got the salmon bowl, the salmon avocado maki, and tuna crispy rice. The salmon bowl was definitely my favorite. The salmon was cooked very nicely so that it wasn't dry, and I loved the miso glaze that they put on top. It added a very nice sweetness to the salmon and created a very nice char. It was pretty small portion size though. The salmon avocado maki was solid too. It was the most filling! You get 5 pieces :) The tuna crispy rice was just alright. The rice part was good, but there was a bit too much mayo in the tuna. The miso soup that came complimentary with it was good too! I like how generous they were with the seaweed. Such a nice vibe inside! It's definitely a nicer spot, but still casual enough for lunch. I wanna come back for dinner! Service was quick and server was kind.

I ended up calling the Printer's Row location and had the team talk to the manager at the Chinatown location, and the manager at the Chinatown location kept their stance that it does not work, stating Printer's Row location does not know why the gift card does not work at the Chinatown location, and will not make any exceptions to accepting the gift card. Thankfully at the Printer's Row location, they are stating it's due to their system being new as they are a new location, and reason why the gift card is not working at all the locations yet which they are now working on to fix so it does not happen to any other customer moving forward. It was the views that attracted us to this venue. It turned out to be a perfect evening with beautiful weather for dining al fresco. Since it was a Monday evening, the large modern dining room was not too busy. As expected, the outdoor terrace was bustling. The terrace is basically divided into 3 sections. We were seated in the first section closest to Navy Pier and Lake Michigan, and this area filled up fast shortly after 6:00 pm. Service was friendly and professional throughout the evening. Our server Justin was very knowledgeable of the menu. Both the hostess and Justin wished our daughter a happy birthday several times. A birthday dessert with a lit candle on the side was presented to her at the end of the dinner, making it a special meal to her. Our daughter ordered a cocktail called Happy Days ($23) that came in a Japanese cat shaped jar/glass. My husband had a glass of Chablis ($21), and I had a mocktail Setting Sun ($14), which has fresh yuzu, Valencia orange, lychee, Soda. However, I could only taste the soda, I wished I could taste the lychee. For dinner, we ordered the following to share: Kani Kani Crispy Rice ($34) -- Justin recommended this dish. I really enjoyed the crispy rice and the minced crab meat topping, which was flavorful and not too spicy. However, my husband did not feel that was a crab flavor. Tempura Rock Shrimp ($19) -- a nice quantity for sharing, shrimp was fresh, but nothing too special. Crispy Spring Rolls ($28) -- 6 very small spring rolls were filled with Maine lobster, pork, with Thai orange sauce. They were delicious but we couldn't really distinguish the lobster or pork in the minced filling. (For the nigiri and sashimi, each order came with 2 pieces. Everything we tried was fresh.) Unagi +1 piece ($14 + $7) -- BBQ Fresh Water Eel Seared Salmon Belly Nigiri +1 piece ($23 + $11.50) Kinmedai ($18) -- Golden Snapper Chutoro ($21) -- Medium Fatty Tuna A5 Wagyu Nigiri ($49) - This was a surprise disappointment. All 4 pieces of Wagyu were tough and had gristle in them, so chewy that we had to spit them out. It's definitely not the melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu experience that I was looking for. Duck Yakisoba ($28) - This dish was mixed on our table by a server, that added more fun to a dish that had egg noodles, duck confit, and ginger. It was flavorful with a good amount of duck. Black Cod ($44) - It was nicely seared and prepared. However, my first bite had a very slight fishy smell in it. Otherwise, it was a good dish. Black Sesame Mochi ($18) -- Charcoal-Vanilla ice cream, black sesame praline, and mochi sponge. Surprisingly, this was the highlight of the night! The flavors and all the different textures worked very well together. I could easily eat a couple of these myself! I am still craving for the aromatic crispy black sesame praline and creamy charcoal-vanilla ice cream a week later! With a 3.5% restaurant surcharge, our total bill came to $431.80 before tip. Valet parking was originally $50, but with restaurant validation, it was brought down to $35. All in all, we had a wonderful birthday dinner for our daughter. The stunning views and ambiance with excellent service made it a memorable evening, while the food was very good overall, there were a couple of disappointments. For us, Miru is a 4-star experience overall, with 5-star ambiance and service.

The tuna piece was the only I really loved. The fish quality wasn't as high as I was expecting. The sushi was decent. So pleasantly surprised! Came in on a Friday night for a 6:30 reso and the place was empty BUT it…read morewas packed, seemingly by regulars, by the time we left. Service was a little slow at time but they got slammed very quickly and and we weren't in a rush. What we got: - chuturo nigiri - so buttery - hamachi nigiri - good flavor and cut - chili hotate - love the flavor - negi toro maki - good flavor - unakyu- fine a little on the sweeter side - Amai - not my favorite and I think the tuna had a strong fishy flavor Overall, good meal and pretty reasonable bill. Will definitely be coming back to check out the rest of the menu!

Such a wonderful spot! Fantastic happy hour. Everything was made fresh and tasted delicious…read more Service was super friendly, and they even brought out a free birthday mochi for my friend. We got the karage, three of the skewers , and the spicy salmon and tuna rolls. This place, along with the entrance is a bit hidden, so would love to see them market themselves more as I think it's a spot people would really love, especially for more affordable sushi in the River North area. Quiet and cozy ambiance for casual outings but also cute enough to be a date spot. Got seated immediately. Service was a bit slow, but that's only because they seemed to have one host/server working at the time, who was working super hard and kept a super pleasant and attentive vibe. I will definitely be back!
