The hotel is great, but the restaurant seems to be struggling. A server was unexpectedly rude to my husband and me, and the atmosphere felt so unwelcoming that we ended up getting up and leaving. This was our most recent--and final--visit to Nobu Chicago. During our stay, I visited the restaurant several times, and it consistently felt several notches below the caliber you'd expect given how well the hotel is run. The vibe reads more like "resting on the brand name" than delivering an elevated dining experience. I enjoyed the food most when ordered as room service. To be clear, I don't mind a place with imperfect service if the food is exceptional, and even vice versa--there are plenty of spots I gladly revisit for one strength or the other. But Nobu Chicago doesn't have the food quality to justify the attitude, nor the customer service to justify settling for mid food at a high price point. There are far better options in the neighborhood worth your money. read more

Went for the first time to celebrate a few birthdays. We chose the coldest night of the summer to go to the rooftop. 9/7/2024 when the temperature dropped into the 40s. We did dine-in first. The reservation was for 9 people. 2 of us arrived first and were seated immediately. The service in the restaurant was great, as well as when we transitioned to the rooftop. The staff all worked together as a team. No ask was above anyone to tend to. Food and drink delivery was prompt. Our used plates were cleared immediately when empty, and waters refreshed without asking. The ambiance was initially chill in the dining area. As the night went on, the lighting was dimmed, music was played a bit louder, and the vibe switched casual dining to hipster. My take on the food is that it's overpriced and underwhelming. Grant it some may say I didn't order the right thing and give it another whirl. However, for their price point and portion size (think smaller than tapas more like Polly Pocket, bite size). I wouldn't return on my dime to eat. I don't mind paying top dollar for a great meal/experience, but this wasn't it. I had sushi: shrimp tempura & soft-shell crab, and the Chi-Town cooler specialty cocktail. Loved the drink. Sushi was super basic, with no flavor. Others tried the tacos, yellowtail, edamame, crispy wings, sushi, oysters, rock shrimp tempura, shrimp and lobster spicy lemon sauce. For the most part, the others thought their food was good, but not filling, and were already thinking about what to eat once we left. The rooftop is spacious, has great views of the city, perfect photo ops, and has multiple heaters. Housekeeping items: Valet parking was $48 for about 6 hours. There's nearby metered parking, which may be hard to find during high traffic times as the West Loop is very busy on the weekends. Overall, the building is well kept, from the dining room to the rooftop and bathroom. As of now, there's no limit on the number of cards/forms of payment to take care of the check. read more

I was surprised to see a Nobu in the West Loop area - a nice addition! We came here for some post-dinner drinks and shareables, and sat at the bar. We ordered: +the Yuzu Strawberry Calpico - a mocktail prepared with strawberry Calpico, yuzu, lime, and mint - this was like a yogurt- creamy-based drink that had a nice citrus hint from the yuzu; very aesthetically pleasing and tasty! +Toro Tartare with Caviar - not much of a shareable, as this is just enough for half a person! +Toro & Scallion maki - my favorite of the three +Yellowtail & Scallion maki +Spicy Tuna maki All the rolls were fresh and bite-sized; a small pitcher of soy sauce was served with it. Nobu is a very elegant, expensive, and fine dining restaurant that would be great for an occasion such as celebrating a birthday or a big special event. The food here is amazing, but is probably one of the more expensive restaurants in the city. If there is one thing about Nobu Chicago, it's that their menu items will not disappoint. My favorite items were the Spicy Tuna Crispy rice, Yellowtail Jalapeño, and the Tiradito. These are great starters to share with everyone at the table. The Tiradito and yellowtail were very soft and melted in my mouth. The crispy rice is always a favorite and must have with the crunchiness of the rice. The King Crab Tacos, Black Cod Miso, snd Wagyu Dumplings were also some favorites at our table. It tasted very fresh and the cod was drizzled in the miso sauce. All of the sushi and sashimi on their menu are great and are fresh. Can't go wrong with ordering any of them. The rooftop is great to enjoy the view of the city, enjoy outside, and overall great atmosphere in the summer time. There is nothing like eating with a good view. Nobu has fallen off! If you are thinking about coming for their brunch, save your money and go elsewhere! If you are like me and have heard about the Nobu brunch on social media, be warned that they change their items randomly. I took my family for Nobu brunch hoping to enjoy the sushi, nigiri, and other items that we saw advertised. When we went, it was two salads, a few rolls, some lukewarm breakfast items, and no nigiri. It's really shady to change up the high value items for your brunch without notice. The rest of the food was subpar. I emailed Nobu management notifying them on disappointment and they never responded. What a joke. I have been dining at various NOBU Destinations for 20 years and I'm done with them. This place is just trading on its name and reputation. There are plenty of better places to dine at. HARD PASS! read more

Corn is a no/never again and they still get 5 stars. The fried okra was even cold and they get 5 stars. I had to assemble my own tacos and THEY STILL GET 5 STARS! I had sky high expectations for Nobu after years of hearing the hype, and was severely disappointed on our visit. To come into something with a high expectation usually isn't a great idea, but how could I not have this impression after hearing how great the sushi is for years. To put it mildly, when asked by a friend how I liked our dinner at Nobu, I responded that I couldn't stress my dissatisfaction enough. I don't often leave bad reviews, but I feel robbed by the $600 bill for two good tuna tacos and terrible, TERRIBLE maki (to be fair our bill was half liquor to deal with the poor experience). Maybe we ordered the wrong items, but wow this was an unimpressive evening. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't the top tier "better than anything else" I was expecting. We had tuna crispy rice that wasn't great and lacked flavor with an unenjoyable chew, however the tuna tacos were top 3 all time very good tuna. The king crab tempura with sweet and sour sauce was excellent. I think where we went wrong was ordering spicy tuna and California rolls, more than half of each was left on the plate and we sent the house roll back. Was excited to try this place considering it's notoriety of quality and consistent dishes across all of it's locations. We had reservations and were sat immediately. The restaurant had a modern artistic look to it and appeared very classy. It wasn't too loud either. First up were cocktails and the lychee martini was so good we ordered another for dessert. It was very smooth and had a pleasant taste. Many of the menu items were offered as small plates so we were happy that we could try multiple things off the menu and not get overwhelmingly full. We started with the shishito peppers as an appetizer and then followed up with a cold dish and a warm dish. Our cold dish was the crispy rice with spicy tuna. It was a one-bite dish that was so delicious we wanted to order more but held off to be able to try other menu items haha. Our warm dish was the wagyu dumplings and they were just as good. For dessert, we ordered the warm date cake with gelato and it was unbelievable. I had never seen dates on a dessert menu and with it being made into a cake it was amazing! Our server was on top of everything. I accidentally spilled my drink at some point and he quickly cleaned it up for us and offered new napkins and drinks. WORST experience ever!!! It took us 3 hours for the Omakase. After the 3rd dish, the wait was FOREVER, and it came out with peanuts, even though I clearly mentioned we have a nut allergy. After the 4th dish, I had to wait almost 30 minutes for the 5th dish--duck--that was cold, dry, and hard to eat because there was no knife or fork provided. The 5th dish was Halibut, and it was the worst Halibut ever--cold, dry, and overcooked. The server told us it was the last hot dish, but it wasn't hot at all. Had friends visiting Chicago. We had been to Nobu-s in London, Dubai, NYC, SFO, etc. Decided to go to Nobu Chicago because we had great experiences at other ones. Came here for happy hour. The server was slow and ignored us, gave us a cheaper prices menu and then switched it out later. The food was just okay, good quality but taste was kind of off especially for the chicken karage. The salmon avocado maki was good, the tuna with crispy rice was okay but the tuna came out all mashed together. My husband and I have stayed at Nobu a few times now. We came for our anniversary a few years ago. The service was beyond what I was expecting as previous we to the NY location and were treated like regular customers. Our server asked if we knew what we wanted or wanted her recommendations. We went with her recommendations and she did not disappoint. The Yellowtail Jalapeño and Wagyu sushi roll was out of this world and probably one of the best things I've ever had. Maybe my 10th time at this location, and who knows how many times at Nobu generally and this was by first the worst experience we've ever had. Server seemed frazzled, was hard to track down. Several items (crispy tuna, teriyaki chicken) didn't come out or came out after everyone else in our party was finished with their meals. The octopus pasta is just stir fry. Octopus is cut into giant chunks and served with giant clunky vegetables. We were a party of 6 sitting at a round table, they put everyone's sushi on one platter so we either had to pass a giant platter around the table trying not to knock over drinks and other small plates, or stand up to reach across the table for our food. Then one of the guys who brought the food out was whispering or something when brining things to the table which made for the most awkward experience of just trying to figure out what he even wants from us or has for us. I've heard great things about nobu restaurant but was quiet disappointed with my visit at their brunch buffet. The service overall was great; our waitress was kind, the waiters by the buffet bar was attentive and worked hard to make sure the food is refilled as quickly as possible however, there's a delay in certain food on the buffet table which caused huge traffic with long lines. The quality of the sushi was decent, the selection was very limited with choice of 2 salads, shrimp cocktails, seafood ceviche, waffles, avocado toast and French toast (which I'm not a fan of any of these, perhaps it's not their specialty). The crispy tuna was tasty. The rest of the sushi option include salmon, yellowtail and tuna sushi which were just decent quality. Not good enough for it to be "high end"quality. At the end of the line is beef tenderloin, which is not flavored at all and the meat is not tender, and on the dry side. There's also dinner roll on the side which was quite embarrassing for a "nobu brunch buffet." The dessert table was not bad but nothing overwhelming good. I want to start off by saying, dinner was unbelievable. When we arrived, the hostess was not very pleasant. She didn't greet us and after a couple minutes, handed us off to somebody else who took us to our seats. When we sat down, we were next to a mother and her child, which isn't terrible, other than we wanted a romantic evening together. The child was very loud, and without us even saying a word, the waiter said, would you like to move to a quieter seat? (They were moving others around us as well and we were so happy that he asked and we immediately obliged) He took us to the most incredible table, right by the kitchen. Our new waitress was equally as good as the first waiter we had. We decided we would order the omakase and then we got nervous after we did it, because it's expensive. But all I can tell you is it was absolutely incredible. There were so many things that made this experience even better, if that's possible. Anytime somebody got seated at a table, the kitchen yelled, omakase! We loved it. Anytime we had a dish that we finished, before we blinked, someone picked it up. The service was impeccable. First time at Nobu Chicago and had the best time ever. Made reservation ahead of time and celebrated a fun GNO! We were seated on the 11th floor rooftop area and we had the best view of the Chicago skyline. The service is exceptional, special shout-out to our server who recommended amazing drinks and dishes for us to try. Everything we tried was fantastic, both the house specials Salmon NuStyle and and White Fish Tiradito were so fresh, light , and flavorful. The wagyu dumpling, Malibu wings , spicy tuna and black cod butter lettuce are all must try's. Each of them were beautifully presented and tasted incredible. The dessert need a special mention as to how amazing they were. The chocolate passion parfait and the banana cake ( can't remember the exact name) was a 10/10! My boyfriend and I were hopping around the West Loop on date night and decided to try out this spot! I heard the rooftop was amazing, and the view did not disappoint. We got there 10 minutes after opening, and plenty of tables were open. We were told they were all reserved and only the bar was open. OK, fine. We did not have a reservation. We get it. No problem. We got some drinks and stayed for about a little over an hour. Bar got crowded as others like us decided to spontaneously come in, but the majority of those tables stayed open the entire time. Seemed odd to me that the host would not offer a table with a time limit for when the reservations would have come in. Went to clean the table myself, got my own menus and silverware. Still no one came by the table. We got up and left and told the Hostess of the lack of any service and we are leaving. Her response "OK that's fine with me". Avoid this place. If Nobu has any idea how terrible this place is he would shut it down. I have been to many of the Nobu restaurants and all are great. This one, really puts a terrible image on the chain. Best thing they can do is replace the entire staff or retrain them to understand when you go to a restaurant and one with a great reputation, how customers want and should be treated. read more

I'm sorry I just don't understand the hype surrounding this chain. While they have tasty cocktails and a nice vibe/ambiance, for me that's where it stopped. The food is insanely overpriced and that would be fine perhaps if it blew my mind. 2 lobster tacos for $28 and they are literally not even one bite size each. My pinky finger is larger than they are individually. Insane. The rock shrimp tasted like bang bang shrimp which is nothing original or innovative. The Nobu fries were frozen and average with a absurd price for fries. $48 for the miso cod which was just blah. I can say I finally went to Nobu but won't be returning. $350 bill for appetizer type food and cocktails and ended up going to nearby taco spot after because I was still hungry. read more

The service was great and they were able to do separate checks when we asked ahead of time. I loved the lychee martini. I was here 6/28 to celebrate my birthday with friends. The experience I would say overall was mediocre. I am someone that values service and at this price point, the experience was truly a comedy of errors. I am not sure why our party was treated so differently than others but it was apparent from the moment we were not allowed to be seated until our entire party was there, yet watched others not be given that same instruction and allowed to sit while their friends trickled in. The positives: the food is truly very good. We ate downstairs not the rooftop. Delicious food. Came out hot. The general manager was kind and the bus boys as well were more attentive than our waiter. The negatives: the service we received from John F was truly abysmal. He started off his interaction unable to give us recommendations and appeared annoyed from the start. After a poor attempt at upselling us, he appeared once to take our order and then we didn't see him again. The bus boys knocked over a flute of champagne and glass went everywhere. He was apologetic and cleared most of our plates and glasses (in case of wayward shards) but I had to ask for mine to be cleared as I guess he just sort of forgot about my stuff. After clearing plates he also spilled water all over the table and had to replace our stuff AGAIN. He was appropriately apologetic and was actually the only person who saw us regularly so when we needed more water or new napkins we couldn't ask our waiter. Because our waiter ignored us. We watched our waiter go out of his way to be attentive to the two parties surrounding us while ignoring us the entire night. Furthermore, after all that commotion nobody came by to ask if we were alright or to replace the champagne flute that was toppled over and spilled. And when we asked about the flute, the only time our waiter showed up was to say "well the champagne is gone so buy another bottle if you want the glass replaced." Now to be fair, we responded "well we will leave that to your discretion." And the flute was replaced, though it certainly wasn't our waiter that came by to replace it. After having to ask the busboy twice to get our waiter for the check, he finally came by and asked if we needed anything else. And when I said no he said "good!" Not to mention that we had to ask to speak to manager twice before we even could, the payment portals being non operational it was an extremely disappointing service experience for a restaurant that wants you to pay $60 for a 7 oz filet of cod. I wouldn't recommend it. Though it wasn't offered to us as excellent service would suggest it should be, after asking we were comped about 120 off the bill by the GM who as I said was kind. I won't be back. I wouldn't recommend it. There are plenty of sushi restaurants with equally as delicious food and better service for 300-400 less. Dined in the hotel's beautiful first floor restaurant this past morning (for their brunch buffet)! It was, overall, a GREAT experience; I will definitely be coming back to Nobu Chicago! I already dined at their Nobu Rooftop Restaurant about 2 or 3 years ago and had a great experience there, so, I was so very pleased by the fantastic brunch buffet I had today (Sun. 12/14/2025)--loved the variety and freshness of the various sashimi, nigiri and maki selections, plus Nobu's delicious , miniature versions of fried chicken & waffles, breakfast sandwiches and the like! I sat at the bar first (because I thought my aunt - who was apparently running about 20 minutes late - was going to bail on me, but thankfully showed up, which made my day)! The hostess who guided my aunt to me, seated us at a more comfortable and roomy window table in the bar area which had a big mini couch and 2 chairs! The bar tender who took care of me earlier was very professional and efficient! The server who took care of my aunt and me, was pleasant, professional and attentive/efficient-- she made sure I always had fresh, filled-up glasses of orange juice and Coke the whole time! Last, my aunt and I loved the modern, airy and hip vibe of the high ceilinged main dining room. I particularly also loved the large and diverse number of Millennial / Gen Z diners here, plus, the very cool 90s R&B, Pop, Dance and Alternative tunes playing overhead! When I heard Janet Jackson's All for You playing overhead when I first walked in, then hearing the Smashing Pumpkins song, Today, play next -- I knew I had come home! I had dined at Nobu's Tribeca, New York restaurant ages ago (the month before 9/11)--and always had very fond memories of that night! That same night, my family and I saw Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David seated a few tables away from us! Plus, we had a ton of the best sushi and wine that night, too! Third time overall at Nobu Chicago was less than a week after we visited Nobu Caesars in Vegas and it felt so good to be back and experience this location again. Chicago blows Vegas out of the water in terms of menu range and overall experience. The space itself is more elegant and open compared to Caesars and feels like you're in a really nice restaurant. We ordered a few bottles of white wine ( a Chablis and a Pinot Grigio) both were great and also had a few cocktails (my old fashioned was great). We ended up having the team build us a custom multi course meal which was great. We started out with the favorite Yellowtail Jalapeño but ours came with a twist and had fatty tuna between each of the yellowtail sashimi pieces (very nice touch). The waygu beef dumplings were awesome as usuals as well. Something totally new I haven't had at Nobu before was their oyster offering. They prepared the oysters with 3 different garnishes so we got to try one of each. My wife normally doesn't like oysters but she was very impressed! We told them we wanted some a5 and the meat was amazing when it came out on the hot stones and was perfectly cooked. They paired it with the lobster which was super tasty (I normally don't like lobster and I loved it). The kicker was they flamed the a5 and poured liquid nitrogen on the table and called it a fire and ice experience...it was cool! I will say they gave us a bit more a5 then we needed as a table, but I wasn't super upset about it. To close we had an assortment of Nigiri which was top notch. My favorite was the medium fatty tuna and the Mackerel. Our server was great and slowed down/sped up the courses as needed. We even wanted to grab cookies from the bakery a few doors down and needed to wrap up before it closed...they were super aware of timing and made sure we got our cookies! I don't know for how much everyone raves about this place, I wasn't sold. Came here with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. Parking per usual in the area is really hard to come by so valet is convenient. They charge $40 for valet and then they advertise that you can pay for it online. Disclaimer: balloons are not allowed in their restaurant so don't bring them. Also, I would highly recommend doing coat check because depending on where you are seated, there really is no place for coats at the table. We were seated almost immediately and the waiter came by and showed us the drink menu. His demeanor completely changed towards us when we asked for the non- alcoholic menu. I guess I would be disappointed too if the waiters are used to people ordering wine that costs upwards of +$90-$300 and here we are ordering mocktails that are +$15. He didn't even bother bringing us the actual food menu after we ordered our drinks- we had to ask for it. My friend and I ordered the Lyke Liar, and my other two friends ordered the como la flor and a strawberry one but I can't recall the name of it (it's also not listed on the Nobu website online fyi). The lyke liar was so good, the perfect amount of coconut and sweetness- I would just have asked to go a little easier on the ice cubes. My friends drinks were really good as well, so fruity and delicious. Credits to whoever came up with the amazing variety of non- alcoholic drinks, probably one of the best mock-tails I've ever had! Only complaint about drinks is that my friend had to ask twice where her coke was. I wasn't a fan of the presentation of the menu- or perhaps the waiter didnt do a great job presenting it but I was so confused where the appetizers were and what is an actual entree. I was confused because the menu lists appetizers as shuko- snacks. XzFirst we ordered the wagyu tacos which ($18 per taco and minimum of 2). We ordered three wagyu tacos and two lobsters. These wagyu tacos were out of this world- the meat was soft, easy to chew, filled with flavor and just perfect in every way. Downside, the taco is one bite, two if you're savoring every bite. The lobster taco was equally as good, the waiter told us that the lobster is cooked but it didn't taste fried so I assume it's boiled because it still maintained juiciness to it. We also had the Edamame, Shishito Peppers and Roasted Baby Corn as starters. The edamame was as good as edamame could get. The shishito peppers really surprised me- I was expecting something spicy but this was really flavorful and savory. The baby roasted baby corn was different in all the right ways. We also tried the Yellowtail Jalapeño, seafood Ceviche, Shrimp and Lobster Spicy Lemon Sauce, Ribeye Truffle Butter, Shrimp Tempura and tuna sushi. The yellowtail jalapeño is so overrated in my opinion- it's okay compared to what everyone rates it as being the item to get on the menu. The seafood ceviche is good as well. The ribeye truffle butter was my favorite and I would come here daily for it how good it was- the ribeye is slathered in a butter sauce with crispy onions on top. It isn't a large serving but it's enough to make you second guess yourself if you should order more, so good! The sushi was good as well, I prefer the shrimp over the tuna any day! The food was good but the service was lacking. There was a bus boy who came around to pick up dishes from our table but he wasn't attentive because if he was, he would have noticed my friend still wasn't done with her drink. He didn't ask may I take that, he just took the empty plates and what he thought was an empty drink. We didn't say anything but the table behind us also had the same thing happen to them with their alcoholic drink and they were very expressive- don't blame them for the price they are paying! Our waiter was not attentive- I observed the way they interacted with others and they didn't interact with us that way. They also didn't communicate with the servers because the server bought out the ribeye, we ate it and 13 mins later our waiter came and said, "we're still waiting on the rib eye to come out" but in fact it wasn't the rib eye we were waiting on, it was our shrimp tempura which he had forgotten about. In addition, my friend asked for hot sauce twice and it was brought out after she ate the main entrees. When I think of Japanese fine dining, I think of Elegance, sophistication, unique but grounded flavors and grace. There was a server, Minu, who brought out our food and he would so calmly explain what the food was and he would also note if it had anything any one of us was allergic to in it. He was so genuine. He made my dining experience a million times better, his mannerism, presentation and good demeanor stood out to us. Thank you Minu, we really appreciate your service! Overall, check it out for yourselves. Every dining experience is different but whatever you do, do not leave without trying their flourless chocolate cake. Too die for! read more
