Super unprofessional, rude doctor unfortunately. I personally saw him for acne issues while I was in high school, and I recall (even now in my 30s) how brief that appointment had gone: he literally didn't look at me until he was right by my face assessing the issue, and then quickly left after prescribing an ointment. Whole visit that I waited months for took 2 minutes. NOW TO CURRENT TIMES: My family member whom we'll call L contacted Dr. Chiu's office to work on scheduling an appt for a skin issue, to which the doctor himself had answered the office phone (he told her he doesn't have a secretary right now, and proceeded to try to recruit her OVER THE PHONE during this first encounter). He graciously provided free advice on her issue, and they had agreed to schedule an appt a few days later. The call seemed to go well, and they even connected briefly over the fact that she's a working nurse. L thought about it and second guessed going through with the consultation during the days to come as she saw some scathing reviews on Google, and decided to cancel her appt more than 24 hours in advance. She had texted a brief, respectful cancellation message then called the office to ensure the message was delivered, and Dr. Chiu himself picked up again. Immediately, he goes OFF on her, saying things like, "I gave you free advice, and now you're pulling the rug out from under my feet!" and "You got what you wanted and now you want to leave; it's not FAIR to me" - he said these phrases twice or more during his rant to L, and even as she was shocked and tried to calmly respond with gratitude for the advice and apologies for the possible inconvenience, he interrupted her saying, "Don't talk over me!" He gave a final "I trusted you as an RN; I can't work with someone like you", then HUNG UP on her! Do yourself a favour and avoid this dermatologist & office. I am a college student with a passion for dermatology and pursuing PA school. I leave a voicemail for this place asking if I would be given the opportunity to shadow a professional.. received a text and a call back same day excited I reply and get on a call with Dr. Chiu he seemed open to my passion even giving me advice. I let him tell me about his experiences but it later just felt like I was interviewing him. He was telling me things I didn't even ask about like his rude customers using curse words to my surprise as this was our first interaction and his schooling. i was still optimistic as he gave me a time to come into the office the next morning. I show up load A cart with a heavy box of charts he asked me to grab from his trunk and load in. He scans my drivers license and application he asked me to fill out and grabs a composition book and places it on my side of the counter. As a shadow im thinking he Wanted me to use that book although I've prepared my own pocket book that I show him. He immediately gives me this evil glare telling me he never asked me to touch that book and is holding a post it pad saying he had it just in case I "screwed up". How unprofessional to assume. He then glares at the book then at me again at the book and stares into my soul and tells me he built this ground for 20 years (no idea what that has to do with the book) and tells me he did not tell me to grab the book. I'm already nervous as it is. He said he did not want his time wasted and I immediately apologize explaining this is my first time shadowing. He tells me to get out. Get out.i ask him if he's serious and he says yes And leads me out. I am shocked and confused. He called me twice, FaceTime emailed me, texted me just to kick me out within the first 10 minutes of us meeting in person. Because of a book I was not supposed to touch. He told me he could not work with someone like me. I was unfortunate today to have an encounter with Noel. I was seeking employment opportunities to be a MA. Upon arriving I saw some of the reviews... I wanted to give him benefit of doubt. I was strongly mistaken. ALLEGEDLY Still the same, nothing has changed about him from what I've read. I was smart enough to leave it at a phone interview and a phone interview only. When I met him in person he wasn't too bad. It wasn't until I got home later today to have an interview via phone call when his bright colors were shown. ALLEGEDLY He was very disgusting, arrogant, condescending, and overall weird. I was trying to explain to him my school schedule as I'm a student preparing for nursing school. ALLEGEDLY He then got very angry because of my schedule and said "no one in this industry is going to work with that schedule." However that is absolutely wrong, he ALLEGEDLY kept talking my ear off about nonsense, I knew it was because this was probably his only social interaction since he's so lonely. He then ALLEGEDLY proceeded to tell me how patients don't question his judgement "I show the patients their biopsy specimen with the label and all the correct information and show them so they don't question my practice, all they do is look over at my Harvard degree and know that I know what I'm doing." This "doctor" is a joke. I feel bad for his 1 medical assistant too because he was ALLEGEDLY talking bad about her and is ALLEGEDLY trying to get rid of her. He kept talking about professionalism but proceeded ALLEGEDLY to use curse words over the phone. The REAL doctors and supervisors at my last clinic did not talk to me or treat me the way he did or the other experiences shared in here. Trust me yall ain't missing out. Did a working interview for Mr. Chiu. I noticed a lot about how he presented himself towards me and thus the patients. From a patient's standpoint, it's decent because he has to hold in his composure. He walked me through the building at first, doing temperature checks. I made mistakes along the way of the interview and we would go over it thoroughly to try and fix the situation. It is a fast paced environment regardless and he likes to rush it out quickly overall so he wouldn't have to worry about it. From past reviews I was reading, I always think to try it out first before actually giving a review. One thing that set me off with this specific practice and doctor, was that he cursed in front of the patient as we were doing a procedure. He used the F word IN FRONT of a patient. "F***ing" That's very disrespectful and very unprofessional. I have never done many reviews much on this app but I can let you know that he does have a lot of bad characteristics as a doctor from what I seen. I recommend any new Medical Assistant that decides to work for this doctor to be wary and find another location to work. His patients will see the fake side to this doctor but never truely see how he is. Note: During the working interview I am not a fast paced learner so I have to thoroughly go over and repeat the steps needed to learn. I could see he is just irritated and struggling to cope with that, so it's best to leave and let the doctor find another MA to take the job. Dr. Noel T. Chiu is the most unprofessional and disrespectful doctor I have ever met or worked with. He is extremely rude and condescending. I was selected to participate in a working interview by him so that I could get a feel of what the job would be like. Little did I know that would be one of the worst experiences I would ever have during an interview. I was only there for about an hour and a half before I walked out on the spot. Not only was he extremely condescending, be was very aggressive. He told me right off the bat that he wasn't going to explain or show me how to do things more than once because he didn't have time and that if I didn't get it the first time then that "was on me". When giving instructions he would get upset if I asked questions for clarification or made a mistake. If I made a mistake he would question or insult my intelligence by asking "Why can't you get it right?" or "What is wrong with you?" He would clap at me like a dog to move faster and would speak to me in a demanding tone. I had told him twice that I did not like the way he was speaking to me he would say, "ok" and continue to talk me the same way. My final straw was when he got upset because I wasn't moving at a pace that he wanted so he pushed my chair to the side and said, "Move, I'll do it myself since you can't get it right". At that point I had enough of him and his disrespect. I was no longer going to sit there and let him speak to me and treat me like an animal. When I told him that this was not going to work for me he immediately got upset and began questioning me. When telling him that I did not appreciate the he was treating me and speaking to me he got defensive and said that I was being difficult from the moment I came in. When I explained to him that I was in fact not being difficult and that I did everything he had asked of me with no problem. He began raising his voice and saying "What the hell?" and saying that I was unprofessional. I further explained to him that I was being very professional and that I was a human being and he would treat with the respect and dignity that I deserve. After retrieving my belongings he the demanded that I leave out the back door. I told him, "No, I'm going to leave out the way I came." When I made it to the door he started yelling and screaming that I was causing a "scene" and "disturbing his practice. I proceeded to tell him that I am not doing any of those things and that he needed to unlock the door so that I could leave. He said, "No, I hope you dont think I'm going to pay you for the 2 hours that you were here?". I told him that he didn't have to pay me bc I don't want his money and to please unlock the door because I just want to leave. He was again ignored my request and proceeded at ask me what was he going to do because he expected me to be there all day. I told him I don't care to just unlock the door. At that point I began to feel very unsafe because he now had me cornered and I had already asked him three times to unlock the door. In my final attempt to ask him to let me out I pulled out my pepper spray just in case (might I add it was only just the two of us in the building). After that he finally let me out. I was so shaken up by the incident that when I made to my car I just took a moment to myself before I started driving. While I was sitting in. my car he proceeded to walk out of the building to my car. I didn't want to continue on with this whole ordeal so I backed out of my parking spot and drove off. After driving off I called the non emergency police line to report the incident. When I spoke with the officer he had stated that this was his second time in the span of week dealing with Dr. Chiu for this same type of incident. Please do not apply for this job! This is not a safe or healthy environment to work in. Dr. Chiu is only focused on making money. He rushes through everything. He also doesn't understand that it takes time for people to learn how he manages his practice. He expects you to know how to do everything before you even get there. He is a horrible instructor and will try to make you feel less than and call you incompetent if you make a mistake or don't do something in the way that he likes. He is an arrogant egotistical maniac. He is also mean and inconsiderate towards his patients. Please avoid this place at all cost. read more

This guy is a complete a@#!.. Had an appt. for my 15yo daughters acne. The assistant told her to put the robe on for a mole/ cancer visual. I replied that we were there for the acne only. The assistant became a little forceful in his tone and I replied with you can't make us do a mole check. When the doctor came in he introduced himself and began pushing the mole check. I told him with youtube that when an induvidial washed their a@# they could do their own body examination... He got upset because I said A@# and walked out. "Did you say A!#?"... 5 min later the little girl from the front desk came back and retrived us, walked usti the front desk and provided a refund to our FSA card... Had my first appointment as a referral for this doctor today after waiting 65 minutes to see the doctor he came in very rude and was rushing me. Ask me my concerns as I told him two different concerns he only addressed one I had three moles on my back to be removed told me I can only have one removed per visit which I know is a bunch of bull crap. He never addressed my other issue as I brought it up to him he said sorry not gonna answer that Question you can make another appointment for that. This doctor was plain rude rushed me and has terrible bedside manner's I wish I had would have read the other reviews before making an appointment with him. Not impressed. He took my 40.00 co-pay made me wait 35 minutes. His assistant asked me to take my shirt off while I waited. I left it on because it was cold in the room. While I am in agreement regarding Dr. Chiu's manner, and his rather direct and somewhat condescending way of dealing with at least this patient (me), I nonetheless believe him to be a highly competent doctor. Once I got rather direct back and let him know that I was going to be and remain active in the decision making regarding my health - his tone changed somewhat. Sometimes competence comes with an A-type personality, and I'm willing to take it and dish it back so long as the doctor demonstrates competence. Dr. Chiu does. Nonetheless, my 4-Star rating could be raised to a 5 if he were to take time to read and implement the people principles of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. I hope the good doctor does not mind my direct manner. ;-) read more

I did a working interview with Dr. Chiu, to say the least there's not enough money in the world that could be given to me to make me work for a person like him. He's rude, nasty and extremely unprofessional and will belittle you in front of patients. I wish I would have checked his reviews before wasting my time to interview with him because based on them alone I would have ran for the door! The way in which a doctor treats his patients speak volume of what kind of employer he will be. Like the previous review, I too wish I could give zero stars. I am a registered nurse and am pretty good at advocating for myself. Unfortunately, after almost a year of multiple useless visits, I am now looking for another dermatologist who will actually do more than bill my insurance. I have what should be a simple problem. Itchy Skin discoloration that is spreading across my back and down both arms. Visit #1.....try this steroidal cream and see me again in 3 months. If it's not improved we will BIOPSY it. The small 3oz bottle meant to cover both arms only lasted 1 month. His response to my refill request was to come back for an office visit to get a refill. I am too busy with a full time job to come out my way for a refill. I got my primary care doc to refill it twice. The cream didn't work. I go back to see him. Visit #2...... A nurse practitioner saw me instead. She tells me that my skin discoloration is a result of the inflammation of the rash. I tell her my skin looks EXACTLY the same as it did on the day I noticed it. There was no redness or inflammation whatsoever. She just assumed or imagined what it may have looked like. I demand to see Dr. Chiu. He comes in and agrees that it looks the same. They both tell me to use a calming lotion sold over the counter for 6 weeks then come back for a BIOPSY. Visit #3........biopsy time right? Wrong! I call to make the appointment and I am told that I need to be seen and the doctor will decide if a biopsy is needed. I tell the receptionist that the Dr. And I have already discussed he plan. The nurse practitioner chimes in and says that I need to wait until he inflammation returns for a biopsy. What inflammation? Here we are again back to this inflammation that has never happened. I ask to leave a message with Dr. Chiu and am told I cannot email or leave a message and that I need to come in and talk to him. I tell the office staff that I'm not being listened to and I don't want to keep coming back to be looked at. It should not take 4 visits just to get a skin scraping or a biopsy. Skin scraping can be done in the office and looked at under a microscope with little time and effort. It can rule out or confirm some pretty basic skin conditions. That should be first line of business. Find out what you're treating then treat it right? Instead he wants me to keep coming back and he keeps billing my insurance. The medical assistant calls me back and pulls my chart and says that on my last visit your skin was clear and was looking good. I tell her she's mistaken and nothing has changed in fact it is spreading. I tell her I'll politely take my medical records to another doctor. Well to get medical records I have to go in person to sign a form that cannot be emailed. Fax or in person. I have no fax machine. As a nurse I would advise: if a doctor will not accept messages or emails from a patient and insists on office visits to communicate, even in instances of patient complaints, don't bother with that doctor. Dr. Chiu in my opinion is like the great mysterious OZ, hiding behind his office staff unwilling to communicate with patients unless he can bill the insurance. So here I am almost a year later with the same problem looking for another dermatologist. The office staff is flippant and somewhat rude and definitely sarcastic. The medical assistant is as good as it gets. Since I cannot leave a message for the doctor I will just direct him to my review on yelp. I also plan to file a complaint. read more

Arrogant and a bully! I went in for a suspected basal cell carcinoma on my jaw. The skin cancer screening that I'm sure he charged for was a joke! It took all of 3 seconds and only included my arms, front neckline and a peek at my front waistline! I pointed out one spot near my elbow that showed up recently and is raised and has irregular edges. He dismissed it as an age spot. I'll have another doctor check it! Don't ask him questions, you'll get an evasive non-answer. He doesn't recognize or respect that you are capable of making your own health decisions. I was told that is "unacceptable". His office harrassed me with phone calls to schedule an appointment. 5 calls, inlucluding one from Dr. Chiu himself. He's fired. I'd rather drive 50 miles for a good dermatologist. I've seen Dr Chiu 3 times and each time had the same experience. There is a ridiculously long wait time. I've waited 45 minutes before being called in only to be seen for 5 minutes. All the visits are rushed and after waiting that long, you'd at least expect an apology. Nothing. I used to go to Dr Beer in Brentwood but since I changed insurance, he's the only one on my network. On my last visit, he gave me a new prescription and after picking it up at Safeway, I realized it's the exact same as the old one which he was supposed to switch. I've called the office twice, front desk tells me his nurse assistant will call. Safeway even contacted them to clarify but still no return call from Chiu's office. I am very frustrated as I have to go in again and God knows how long I have to wait for this time. I'm done with them and will be going back to Dr Beer. Horrible practice...this doctor has the WORST bedside manner on top of rude and incompetent front office staff (the receptionist is clueless and lacks basic manners). All three times I have been to see Dr. Chui I was kept waiting a good 45 min before being seen...no apology either. Find another doctor. I saw his assistant one time and she apologized for the receptionist screwing up my appointment time, but it was more to clarify the mistake was indeed the fault of the receptionist and not hers...which I found tacky and childish. I wish I could select zero stars! Dr. Chiu is rude and demeaning and only in his business for a buck! About a month ago I canceled a return visit because my issue had cleared up. I did not feel it was necessary for me to have to pay to have him tell me everything was fine. My son recently had a return visit for his acne. They called me earlier that day to schedule me to come in as well for my return visit. The office folks were pretty persistent and I thought I would have him take a look at a separate issue anyway so I said yes. After about a 45 minute wait, Dr Chiu came in the room with a really bad attitude. He took a look at my son first. He berated him for not using his medicine, mind you, my son's face looks really clear. My son has been taught to be respectful to adults so he did not say anything. In fact, he has been using his medicine regularly. My son had a wart he needed to have frozen. "There will be a charge for that..." No surprise. He then went on to say that I needed to sign a contract stating that I would bring my son back in to the office every 3 months for my son's acne. This blew me away! I have never heard of such a thing! This is for cosmetic purposes! Don't I get to decide when I need to bring my son in? When It was my turn, he made me feel like I was an idiot. He was going to do a biopsy on a spot that I should have recognized was a problem! "There is going to be a charge for that. I am going to numb this area. While we are waiting for the numbing medicine to set in, go ahead and get her credit card to process the fee..." He left the room. When he came back about 5 minutes later I told him how insulted I was and that we would not be doing the procedure and I would be going to another dermatologist. He was a complete A$$. The first time I called this clinic I was impressed how helpful and friendly the the receptionist was. They booked us for an appointment the same day. I was told that I have to pay up front since its our first visit and they cannot really proved that we have an insurance with a HRA account. That turned me off a little bit because they are the very first clinic that let us pay up front for the first visit. I paid with no hesitation since I have insurance. I was told that they will still bill our insurance and send me a refund once the insurance pay. I received an Explanation of Benefits from our insurance indicating that the claim was paid to this clinic on 2/18/2016. I waited to give them enough time to send me my refund. I called March 21, 2016 that is more than a month. Gave them all the information and I was told by a Crystal that the insurance never paid them. I called our insurance and they insisted that they did pay this clinic. I was advised to have the provider/clinic call insurance since they cannot give the payment detail. I called the clinic back and told them what they need to do. This Crystal said she will give the information to their billing and somebody will call me back, did they call NO. I called the next day and again Crystal told me the insurance did not send the payment. Again she said they will return my call, again they did not call back. I called again and Crystal put me on hold for about 10 minutes and she heard my piece. I told her how frustrated I am and how dissatisfied I am with their service after they were paid twice by me and the insurance. Since I was really upset, when she came back on the phone she said we will send you a refund. I asked so then you were paid right and she said yes. Their billing department got confused Crystal said because the insurance paid them more than what I paid. If I did not call no one will care if I get my money back and besides if the insurance paid you more than what was owing being in the medical field would you not call the insurance and clarify why? Its very sad that doctors are not as caring as they should be, they are there now just for the MONEY. Waiting for the doctor to see you is about hour and a half. And when this doctor enter the room he is in a rush and will spend about 10 minutes with you and then write you prescription. They will have you sign an agreement that you need to return after three months. read more
