We've been taking our son to Walnut Creek Dermatology for about a year now, and I gotta tell you, we could not be happier. The office is very nice, staff is friendly, and Dr. Radelll had been wonderful to work with. She diagnosed his issues, created a long term course of action, and made sure our son understood his face care responsibilities. We've checked in with her a few times. Every visit was great. But Dave, you have Kaiser, why would you pay out of pocket? We tried Kaiser. It took several weeks just to be able to message a dermatologist. Then more messages with pictures and still no course of action. I wanted someone to actually look at his face. Plus, it's not super expensive. Excellent care! It's a wonderful experience to find an office and Dr that makes you feel seen and listens. Great communication and gives you options based off individuals skin needs. I also have incredibly sensitive skin and have been struggling with products and finding a sunscreen that doesn't upset my skin. Instead of being sold expensive products that don't work like in my previous experiences at other dermatologists. I was educated on what is best for my skin and given samples that are not causing my skin discomfort. read more

They never actually scheduled my appointment! I showed up and they said they didn't save my appointment because I didn't have a credit card on file (not sure why that's even needed since it was for a skin check covered by insurance) but they never called to get my credit card either. I called the day prior to confirm and left a voicemail and ask a question about potentially rescheduling. Why didn't they call me back and tell me that I didn't actually have an appointment! They just continued to let me find a babysitter and show up for my non existent appointment! The lady at the front wasn't even nice about it either. read more

Short version I really like the Dr. she was great, that was a few years ago, they were new in the area. I just got back to ca. and I liked them so i reached out and made an appt. great wonderful. Well I had to go back to Wa. on a family thimg and had to reschedule. We I left a message to reschedule, well I never got a call. I always give the benefit of a the doubt, well I called 4 more times, no call back. I finally reached out today and was able to talk to a live person (I guess they are super overwhelmed with clients they can't take the time to call back. The reason I WAS trying to get an appointment was for a spot on my hand that actually hurts and isn't getting better. Not enough to be concerned about I guess! Thank you for the wonderful customer service.... And believe me I know customer service, I excell at it. I bet if I wanted Botox or some other bougie treatment I wouldnt have had an issue getting in. Last dermatologist was a trentionin shill who almost kicked me out of her office for simply describing persistent skin issues since taking trentionin in 2024. Photographs were provided documenting before, during, and after since i was trying to get back to how i looked pre retinoids. She smugly said "it's not science" that retinoids can cause permanent skin damage, and when I said sebum was the body's natural sun protection she laughed and shook her head "no." Aside from preventing skin infections by providing a ph balanced moisture barrier to skin, sebum provides vitamin E and other antioxidants to fight free radicals and prevent UV related skin damage, which is why its recommended to wear extra sunscreen and avoid sunlight while taking retinoids, but what they don't tell you is that more than half of patients in trials experience permanent sebum reduction and dryness, including cracking/ brittleness after they stop taking retinoids, which means retinoids accelerate "sun damage" and aging. So beware anyone who tells you that your skin damage is just "aging" or "sun damage" or "genetics" when you've taken retinoids. If you have been aging and tanning just fine before now, but like me aged horrendously since starting retinoids, you can guess what the problem likely is. This dermatologist did the exact same thing, first blaming the damage to my face on poor skincare, sun damage (I wasnt tanning/burning or anything abnormal), genetics (my 72 year old vietnam veteran harley riding father has better skin than me, and no I dont smoke or drink), then said everything was fine and i just needed to put some vasoline around my eyes. Then bounced between saying what she was telling me was science and just her opinion, all with the impatient hyped up ADHD energy of someone who was heavily stimulated and wanted to be doing something else. The office clerk was great tho. She deserves 5 stars, i I'm averaging the review between 1 star for the dermatologist, and 5 for the clerk. Hopefully the dermatologist reads this and spends some time studying retinoids and sebum instead of balking at patients and saying crazy things like "its not science." Retinoids are heavily overprescribed and overused. Last two dermatologists I've seen were ardent retinoid abusers with the pore sizes of something more akin to a water creature than land mammals. Women particularly like retinoids and destroying their sebaceous glands because they're going to cake on makeup anyway. Its this conflation of real skin health and beauty fads that need to go away that have turned dermatology into a field of quacks. i wish everyone luck finding a dermatologist who understands this. read more

This is an update to the review I left yesterday. My sincere apologies if I was MISTAKEN about my blood pressure being taken. The medical assistant was in my room for several minutes asking questions before the doctor entered. In response to my review, the doctor made a very unprofessional reference to my "lie number one." What was/were my other lies? That the butterfly-shaped rash on my face is actually lupus? It seems to me since the doctor did not know what was causing the rash, eight weeks of antibiotics was inappropriate and overkill, but I already knew that, thus the reason I did not pick up the prescriptions. I will not further debate my review with the doctor. However, I will say that I find many of her responses to patients' negative reviews on this site and others, unbelievably appalling, rude and condescending. That was the attitude I received when she saw me for those very few minutes. It would seem a doctor would learn from patients' bad experiences. When I paid with my FSA card, I was told my office visit co-pay was $15, but then the office staff told me that they ran my insurance, and it indicated my co-pay was $30 for a specialist, and since this was the first time seeing a specialist with this insurance, I was OK with that, even though my insurance card indicated $15. I have since looked at my claim online, and it appears my co-pay should have been $15 for the office visit. If I was overcharged by $15, please issue a refund. I do not have much experience looking up claims online because I've never had the need; however, if I am not mistaken, I was billed for a 45-minute office visit. If I am misreading it, I will apologize for that, as well. This is what it appears was billed; "services provided (1) office/outpatient new moderate mdm 45 minutes." I visited Dr Randell for the first time today and sadly it was a very negative experience. My childcare fell through last minute and they have a very strict no show/cancellation policy. I called first thing in the morning to check if it was okay to bring my children, and a it was. Upon meeting the doctor, we had a quick introduction then she proceeded to immediately and viscously snap at my children for a minor and quiet argument they were having. She didn't even allow me a chance to intervene before she I appropriately crossed a line and belittled them. Zero respect or kindness in her tone and words used. She told them that they needed to stop or else they get kicked out of the room. I was too stunned to even say anything so we moved on to the reason I was visiting. She then completely dismissed my concerns telling me that I was likely wrong and that was that. Not really given the time of day. She attempted to perhaps come back from her mistake by conversating with my oldest, who was holding back his tears and sadness. We walked back to the car and both of my children were in absolute tears. A horrible feeling for any parent. She will likely come on here and try to defend herself, but I just want throw it out there that it's one thing to be rude to an adult, but you do not treat children the way she did in her office today. Horrible bedside manners and truly wouldn't recommend any friends or family to see her. read more

As a returning patient, I was very disappointed when I was charged a $50 fee for not being able to make my appointment today. I called to let the office know that would normally takes me 20 to 25 minutes is now going to take me an hour and a half due to a tragic accident on the freeway that I was stuck in and they continue to tell me that I would still have to pay a $50 fee and for that reason I will not be returning to the office although the doctor was great! Responding to the office's response: Asking me to sit in the 1 1/2 hours of traffic so you can see me once I get there is not accommodating me and considering that there was a fatality which is why there is bumper-to-bumper traffic for an hour and a half is something I would absolutely categories as an emergency. read more

I had my initial skin check appointment today and couldn't be happier with my experience. I left smiling. From the beginning, the parking was easy, the beautiful office was welcoming, staff acknowledged me the moment I step foot in the door, nice experience with the medical assistance, and everything ran smoothly- they even took me back early. I felt very comfortable especially not knowing what to expect. Dr. Radell was extremely friendly and thorough. I felt cared for and important throughout the visit. She scanned every area of my skin, telling me what things were and what her recommendations were. She removed a mole under my armpit that bothered me and it was an easy process. I don't require follow up appointments at this time, but I definitely plan to be back. I've already referred two family members/friends to her! Dr. Radell and her staff are super. They are engaging and actually listen to you, are very clear and up front about their policies and charges, and provide excellent care (both medically and personally, they are kind and supportive). If you are tired of huge, corporate practices that charge you a lot to spend less than a minute with the actual physician, then this is the practice for you. read more

I had such a great experience at this dermatology office! Dr. Paige Radell is fantastic. She listened to my concern, explained my options, answered my questions, and offered to take care of my issue (wart on my face - eek!) during my consultation visit. It was quick, easy, and virtually painless. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! Not only did she take care of this concern, she asked if I had any other concerns and took the time to look at moles/freckles on my back to make sure none appeared "suspicious." In addition, her front office staff is warm and super-competent. They did not make me fill out a million paper forms (there are a few digital forms), and they were easily able to verify my insurance coverage. The entire office is also super clean, modern looking, and conveniently located in central Contra Costa County. I highly recommend Walnut Creek Dermatology! I am a fairly new patient of Dr Radell. I saw her once for a general evaluation as I am fair skinned and usually see a dermatologist annually just to ensure nothing looked suspect. During that appointment, there were three areas she felt need to be biopsied, which we did at that time. Fortunately, everything came back benign. I appreciate that she called me herself to tell me everything was clear. My second appointment, about 30 days after the first, I was having some issues with a bizarre flareup of eczema. When she came into the exam room, she introduced herself as if I had never been in there before. Of course that indicated she hadn't looked at my file before she came into see me or she would've seen that not only had I been in previously, but also had several biopsies performed. But whatever not really a big deal, just made me feel unimportant. What bothered me the most are their billing practices. As soon as my insurance processes the bill, they call me, text me, AND email me demanding payment. So I contacted them asking to choose one form of communication, but not all three, especially when it's only been 2 weeks since my appointment. They said they are unable to do that and perhaps I should find a different dermatologist. Seriously? I understand they can't adjust their billing practices for just one patient but I can say for sure that no one appreciates being contacted dare I say, harassed, for payment and within such a short period of time of having an office visit. If I was delinquent then sure, but to immediately call me demanding payment within days of my insurance processing is just ridiculous and unprofessional. Response to Dr Radell: Thanks for responding. To provide additional context, l received three different emails from three different services notifying me that I have balance due even though my office visit was only two weeks prior-One from Denise in your office, another from practicemailer.com, and yet another from relatient.net. This is addition to a phone call and text message. So 5 different ways your office contacted me for a balance due of $100. Regarding the credit card, your office told me that was only to cover missed appointment fees should I fail to show up for an appointment. I explained on my first appointment that I have an HSA card for any out-of-pocket expenses and would've gladly provided it had that been requested. read more

Dr. Radell found and treated an issue a previous dermatologist had shrugged off years ago and told me was nothing. When she saw I was alarmed by the diagnosis, she put it into perspective which removed a lot of the fear. She took time to answer my questions and on a subsequent visit performed the operation to fix the problem which went very smoothly. Dr. Radell is personable and so is her staff. Very new and clean facility, friendly receptionist. Went in for first appointment with full insurance coverage. they asked for a credit card to keep in file before meeting doctor and before appointment. Off-putting. Kind of like podiatrists who are worried that their billing won't seem reasonable to Medicare or major insurance companies. Don't know how to evaluate actual dermatology services. SO: Dr. Immediately responded with her answer to my concerns and followed up with a very nice non defensive phone call to offer an explanation of her policy which to me seemed reasonable. My baby has suffered from rash for almost 6 months. We go to different doctors. My baby was diagnosed with 3 different kinds of skin conditions and was given a lot of medication, but the rash was still there. When I bring my baby to Doctor Radell, she is the only dermatologist who gives the right medication and diagnosis to my baby. The rash goes away and cleared up. MIRACLE WORKER!! 8 years, 4 dermatologists, and 3 Physician assistants later, Dr. Radell finally nailed the correct diagnosis! I've been a healthcare worker for 34 years and those sweaty latex gloves can really trash one's hands. She placed me on a couple of topical ointments and my hands finally look normal again.
