"Physician, Scholar, Photographer, Nice Person" I have visited Dr. Tomcik numerous times. Each occasion has gone well. One time, I had pretty bad poison oak, and he suggested a cortisone injection. I did not know you could get an injection for poison oak, but it worked fantastic. I've come back on several occasions for similar injections. The doctor is friendly and enjoys talking about his profession. On my most recent visit, my appointment actually lasted 30 minutes! If you are expecting an assembly line process, you will be quite surprised. He allows plenty of time for appointments. However, if you like being treated like a number on an assembly line, this is probably not the right place for you. It became obvious to me after a while that the doctor is also a scholar. Ask him some Dermatology questions, and see for yourself. He has extensive experience in the field. While you're at the office, check out the beautiful photos in the hallway, taken by the doctor in Africa. Next time I come in for a cortisone injection, I'm going to try to get an autographed photograph. During the covid crisis, when you arrive for your appointment, stay in the parking lot and give them a call. That way they can make sure you're not around other people. I thought this procedure worked well. So all-in-all, an outstanding practice. It's refreshing in this age of assembly lines to find a doctor who is so conscientious. (And no, I'm not his brother-in-law.) But don't be dumb like me and keep coming back with poison oak. read more

Unfortunately poor experience. I came for the Botox and decided to do fillers under my eyes . Doctor never mentioned side effects from the filler. I left the office with a huge bruise under my eye . Two month later the bruise is still there , it got smaller and not as bright . I came back to the office a month later , and left in tears because I was told nothing they can do at this point to fix it. As soon as I politely asked for the refund , I was told no , and was asked to leave by the Doctor. Later on , office staff and the Doctor called me to apologize but I am still walking around with the expensive bruise. :(. read more

He had completed a couple biopsies and told me it would be ready in two weeks. Two months went by so I called and asked, and he called back with... " I am afraid to tell you that you have cancer." I hardly ever see this cancer in people young. But you should not be worried even though this is really rare. Then proceeded to ask me if I had questions and if I was worried. THere was no plan to take care of it even though i asked what we need to do. His plan was to watch it, but he said" I cut out most, but will not be surprised if they come back. I know you tried to treat this by freezing it, but that will not take care of this problem. Dr Tomcik brags about education accomplishments, his practices all over the US, good looking features, and worldly travels. He also was very inappropriate. I brushed it off at first because I am pretty liberal when it comes to people being themselves. But after a conversation about gentile sizes I was very uncomfortable. We then set up a follow up appointment for 3-4 months out. When he did the biopsies he did mention he was going to do this biopsy even though he knew it most likely was not cancer. Also he said after the lab checks the biopsy he double checks it. Being in my early thirties and scared, I wanted a second opinion. I went to another doctor who wanted to see the results and the slides. Dr. Tomcik would not release my records to the other doctor. I had to physically go down and get them. Then I noticed that the documents had a bunch of pencil scratch on it, and dates written in pencil. As it turns out these were warts. Not even close to cancer. But when it came down to skin diagnosis 101 he didn't come close to getting it correct.Everything points in the direction of manipulation. I he was building got the impression he was trying to keep me coming back. Maybe trying to get more money from insurance. I do not know, but al the chain of events points to something fishy going on. I spent 4 months of my life thinking I had cancer, and it could be serious. he did a good job, in striking fear in me, and trying to coax me into believing there was nothing to worry about so I would not talk to anyone or get a second opinion. I just don't want someone and their family to stay up worried, talking about it, confiding in relatives, and concerned for their kids well being, over what is warts and not cancer. There are people out in the bay area I have spoke to through internet, and in person that have seen him and don't agree on his practices. read more

Another baby and I've been blessed with another bout of chin acne. Really, really bad chin acne. I thought I could handle it and thought it would be gone before I returned to work but it wasn't gone on its own and I couldn't take it anymore. So I made my appointment immediately. This time I actually got to see Dr. Tomcik. Sorry, gotta say it, he is awesome! I love a down to earth Dr. We talked about my last visits and having babies and how horrible zits are. Then he started looking at my moles. I've had this mole near my left ear for years. My family described it as a tick on my face. I have a really honest nice family. Dr. Tomcik looked at it said he could remove it and as I was hmming and haaing about its removal, HE REMOVED IT! It was so fast and painless. The thing that was stopping me from getting it removed was the pain of it being removed and that it was so close to my ear I didn't want to hear it getting removed either. It was so easy and painless I let him start cutting other things off of me too. That little skin tag I've had on my eye lid, gone. The one on my neck, bye bye. Its was so easy. Now I'm constantly looking for things on my body for him to remove. Its addicting. Dr. Tomcik is a great Dr. Hes cool and down to earth and is not going to BS you unless that's something you enjoy. Went to Dr.Tomcik once. Will not go back, nor do I recommend him. I spent 1 &1/2 hour in his office for simple Botox injections. He spent the first 45 minutes or so congratulating himself on his many years in practice, his teachings at UCSF, and complaining about Kaiser's dermatology department (my former provider.) Then the remaining time he spent talking war, religion, women's anatomy and sex. I was completely blind sided and unfortunately sat there like a dunce. I mean how do you respond to a Dr. whose supposed to put needles near your eyes when he's telling you your face isn't important because men look at your breasts? I felt violated and embarrassed. Oh and by the way, it wasn't Botox he injected as I asked for. It was Dysport, which is cheaper and doesn't last as long on me- the reason I asked for Botox in the first place. read more

I have been a patient of Helen Petros for years, and of course I am following her to San Ramon so she can continue to do my annual exams and treatments. Check out her reviews at Dr. Pessoa practice in Berkeley California. Being from Southern California and Hawaii with all the sun exposure, I have seen many dermatologist over the years. Helen is by far the best. On my last visit I found out that she has an extensive background in medicine, over 30 years. That explains why she is so professional. I see several scathing reviews here regarding Dr. Ting, who I hear is no longer with this practice. All I know is that Helen is a great provider and you won't have to worry about her overcharging for treatments or prescribing medications you can't afford. read more

I am a patient of Dr Ting and got all my glycolic facials from Amy the esthetician. I think I've been seen over 30 times in five years and never had any issues. Never waited longer than five minutes in the waiting room. When I was 14 weeks pregnant and had a 13 month old with me, I was out of my facial products and came to buy more. The whole office was closed because they were doing a major remodel. Dr. Tomcik wife knew me and let me buy product from a closed office, in the middle of a construction zone. Another reason to give them five stars. They really take care of their patients, On another note, Dr ting saved my life, he found skin cancer where another doctor at kaiser told me it was a wart. Bull crap! That's why I don't do kaiser anymore... They would have left skin cancer sit on my eyebrow. Dr ting said he wanted to biopsy it, just to be save. Can't thank him enough. I have zero scar from the removal too. He did a great job. Facials were awesome! Amy always gave me tons of samples to try and set me up on a great skin care routine. My skin has never looked better and if I keep up with these peels and glycolic's I'll be looking like I'm 14. Haha! Love this place and the staff. read more

Beware of this doctor!!! Note this doctor has a lawyer in the family. Dr. Tomcik is chatty, acts nice and friendly; but he plays dirty and falsifies information in the medical records. This review is way past due. I didn't have the problems with sexual harassment mentioned in other reviews but experienced many other problems with him. Dr. Tomcik did a Mixto fractional Co2 treatment on my face in mid August 2009. I was sedated so I took a girl friend with me who was present for the entire procedure. I was not informed before hand of all of the potential side effects. I am a college educated, professional who really should of obtained written answers to my questions. His Consent form failed to disclose the risk of nerve damage from the severe burn to the skin. Unfortunately for three years I suffered from nerve damage. Every time I pressed on my face with my hand there was a sensation of pins and needles, which I did not have before Tomcik's treatment. My skin was even sensitive to water. I called his office and he said the pins and needle sensation was a result of new collagen production, but that is not what the burn specialist at the St. Francis Memorial hospital had to say. It appeared that Tomcik was too aggresive and may have caused nerve damage to my face. The Informed Consent form said nothing about burning off my hairline either, or allergic reactions to the petroleum that he instructs the patient to use after the procedure, which does not allow the skin to breath properly. Dr. Tomcik burned off approximately one half inch of my hair from ear to ear. The hair has never grown back properly either. I had professional photos taken in September 2009 showing the burned hair at my hairline. The hairs look just like when a match burns a piece of hair, but this was a half inch deep that he burned off from ear to ear. Two weeks post proceedure I began experiencing horrible itching. I took two benedryl capsules, yet it didn't help. My symptoms seemed sort of like it may have been a version of anaphalactic shock. Tomcik wanted to give me some sort of, I think he said, adrenaline shot. At the advice of a well known neurologist, I declined the shot. It was approximately two weeks post proceedure when I called to complain about the uncontrolable itching. On the day of the procedure Dr. Tomcik or his nurse had given me his business card and had written Dr. Tomcik's cell phone and home phone number on the back of the card. I still have the card. My girlfriend witnessed this. I called his office and his home several times over a weeks time, and as always I was professional and polite to the doctor and to his wife who answered the phone once. I have over 20 years selling to fortune 500 corporations, and plenty of professional experience on the telephone. In am a please and thank you person, for 30 years at the Bay Bridge toll plaza. The doctor wanted to see me again, however I lost trust and did not want to see him again, after what he had done to me. I never called his cell phone, and only called his home 4 times, according to my telephone records, which I audited very closely. And I only called his home because he had encouraged me to, and because I could not reach him at his office when I had called. I left messages numerous times at his office, yet he failed to return my calls. After the 4 calls to his home the doctor asked me to call his office only. I obliged his request and from then on placed calls to his office only. Apparently Dr. Tomcik was concerned about a lawsuit. I had asked him for a refund because of what he did, but there wasn't much I could do to get my money back, since it was an elective cosmetic procedure, but I never threatened him with any kind of lawsuit. Now for the most unethical part of all! I had no reason to talk to the doctor and had ceased all communications with him by early October 2009. And I had no intention of ever visiting his office again. I didn't trust the man. In early November, 2009 Dr. Tomcik, instead of using his family member who was an attorney, hired an attorney and filed a restraining order against me. He made up dates when he claimed I called him and entered the dates in the restraining order document submitted to the court. Since my background is in telecommunications, well of course I carefully audited my telephone bills. I had not intitiated many of the calls on his list that he filed with the court. Rather than waste $5,000 for an attorney, since I knew I would never return to his office, I chose to ignor the court appearance for the restraining order and not show up at court. To me it seemed like a waste of time and money. I pretty much figured I had suffered enough of his unethical treatment, negligence, etcetera. So that was my experience with Dr. Michael Tomcik. I cannot recommend him. read more

I made an appointment to be seen for a very common skin condition. I just needed a higher dose of cortisone cream. The amazing Lisa Alder, the NP I used to see, is no longer with the office so I had to see Dr Tomcik himself. Appointment started right on time and we talked about my condition. He seemed knowledgeable enough. After discussing the new prescription, he said that since I hadn't been there in over a year, he would do a skin cancer/mole check. No problem with me. So I took off my shirt and he began to check out my skin. As I'm standing there completely exposed, he says, "Now I don't want to offend you, but you would benefit greatly from lipo". WHAT?!?! Didn't want to offend me?!?!?He then starts pointing out all the spots that need it. As if I'm not already self-conscious enough. After about 20 minutes of showing me a binder of pics, detailing what he thinks I need and even going so far as to write down a quote for me (Thanks A-Hole!), he starts in on my face and the botox and restalyne I need. I finally cut him off and said I'm not injecting anything into my face. He chalked it up to me "not understanding injections". I asked for my prescription and got the eff out of that hell. I don't have a perfect body or a lineless face. I'm aware. I don't need anyone's unsolicited advice. I'm reminded when I look in the mirror. I will NEVER go back to this office. If I want an elective procedure, I will seek it out. I don't need to be told what I need to do, especially when it's simply cosmetic. I would NOT bring your teenage daughter to this office, as I'm sure she'd be scarred for life by whatever comes out of Dr. Tomcik's mouth. read more

I know Dr. Tomcik well. The fact that Dr. Ting left on bad terms is the first clue. His complaint was of the greed in that office. Indeed, Tomcik's main concern is to pay off his building and oceanfront home in Kauai. He is a general dermatologist who has been poorly trained with the laser. As of his dermatological skills, they are poor to fair. I have the scars to show for it. On the positive side, the decor in his office is lovely. On the negative side, his office staff is rude and incompetent, as led by his wife with whom he has a difficult relationship (per Dr. Tomcik). That means all women should be aware of his wandering hands. And his second floor built as a surgical area for Dr. Ting sits empty. Maybe another doctor is reluctant in associating with him. read more

I have been to see Dr. Tomcik many many times and each time I leave I wonder why I would ever come back. I have hated every visit yet i kept coming back for some ridiculously expensive things that he was doing to you while he was telling about his travels around the world. How inappropriate. I had been looking for a new office for botox and skincare since mine in Dublin had moved (California Skin Institute) I bought a Groupon for Botox, and saw Bettina in Dr. Tomcik's office. I have to say I've never been to someone so unfriendly in a doctor's office before. Perhaps that's how they treat someone with a Groupon. I'm not fussy, nor am I a big complainer. But I do expect to be treated with kindness and basic friendliness. I just think if they're marketing with Groupon, earning new clients would be their objective. Well, I could have become a long term client, but I won't go back even for an inexpensive procedure. It's too bad, the office is nice, and so was the front desk receptionist. To be fair, BOTH Dr. Ting and Dr. Tomcik are typical Dermatologists; in it for the BIG bucks. Greed is common among Doctors who specialize in Cosmetic procedures. After checking with my insurance company I found that $300. of the $400. is my deductable. I still believe that $1700 to take a RAZOR BLADE ( I saw it myself) There is no great difficulty in flush cutting off tissue. read more

I have visited quite a few dermatologists in the east bay and Helen Petros is by far my favorite. I saw her for filler injections (nasolabial folds and lips) and was initially fearful of the pain and results (I have seen some scary results from girlfriends). Helen was very professional and patient with me. She described everything in great length and ensured that I was comfortable as we progressed. She made the procedure as painless as possible with a topical numbing agent and a dental block. Also, I found out that she is an artist and has experience in sculpting, which explains her attention to detail when it comes to symmetry and the natural curvature of the face. She paid close attention to circumvent bleeding since I had an event later in the week. I had no bruising or unusual swelling and I was extremely happy with the results. I had seen another derm a year prior and was in a lot of pain and had horrible bruising. I will be returning to Helen going forward. read more

He did a great job and I wasn't left with any scars because of my acne. Years later I was working in San Ramon and was looking for a good dermatologist, and found him and couldn't believe it was the same doctor I saw in 6th grade. He's very knowledgeable, explains procedures clearly, he takes time with his patients and is just amazing! His office is impeccable and his staff are very friendly. I had last been here in early 2006, before a move to AZ. Now back, I saw physician's assistant/nurse practitioner, Helen Petros for a full body examination. Her examination was more complete than any dermatologist that I had been to before. She found a small mole on my ear, and since I didn't recall seeing it before, had it removed and biopsied. Dr. Tomcik is the best when it comes to looking younger and refreshed. I went to him about a year ago for Restalyne treatments. Several months later he did a laser resurfacing procedure and yesterday I went back for some more Restalyne. I am very pleased with the results of all the treatments I've had. Prior to finding Dr. Tomcik, I went to a local plastic surgeon for cosmetic procedures, including Restalyne and I was not very happy with the results. Dr. Tomcik is so good that I am willing to drive to San Ramon (from Sacramento) for his services. In addition to his talent with skin, Dr. Tomcik cares a lot about his patients. He takes whatever time is necessary to answer questions or explain the procedures and it is obvious that he wants his patients to be totally satisfied with their treatment results. I remember reading a study back in school that basically spoke to "word of mouth" feedback on a consumer's experience with purchasing a product or service. The study said if you provide an amazing experience to 10 people 1 of them will share that experience with another. Consequently, if you provide a negative or poor experience that 1 consumer will share it with 10 others. I hope to address that issue in this post. I was referred to Dr. Tomcik through a co-worker because we were talking about the daily annoyance of shaving each and every morning. I am not an "overly hairy" individual but my neck typically looks like that of the poor soul that has to "play a game" every morning with Jigsaw from the "Saw" series before going to work. I went to Dr. Tomcik for laser hair removal and what I got was a Spa-like-expierence. Dr. Tomcik had Shiva (Sp?), one of the medical assistants, help me. She was not only extremely professional but she also took the time to educate me on what she was doing and why. On top of that, she's not bad on the eyes either ; ) I've been in 3 times and Shiva has helped me in all my appointments but the amazing thing is Dr. Tomcik stops by each time to see how I am doing, he answers any questions I may have and he will also ask me questions on my profession (and honestly, who doesn't love it when someone gives them an opportunity to talk about themselves). Then there's Connie (one of the office managers), Connie has an attitude that can take the "worst of days" and immediately turn it around. When I hire people I always look for people with a positive attitude and people who have true passion because those are two qualities that you truly can not teach. The center and Dr. Ting should receive ZERO stars. The center accepted my money, processed a lazer treatment on me and gave me no patient care after the procedure was done. To make matters worse, when I had adverse reactions to the treatment, they NOT return my calls and acted as if I was interrupting their day. I was later told by the nurse who did call (weeks later) me that the Dr. wanted to 'give me space'. That is why he did not return my calls. I have permanent scars on my face from their procedure and I am out lots of $$$ - never mind the stress of trying to recover from their butchering. I regret ever going to their center! read more

I had the laser procedure done on my face, neck and chest and was extremely satisfied with the results. Dr. Tomcik was exceptionally informative both pre and post procedure. Dr. Ting later provided surgery removing some growths and a cyst. Both doctors run an excellent and professional medical office, complete with helpful staff. They also carry a lot of great skin products which I continue to use. Last month I required immediate care due to a painful rash and although they were booked, they made the time for me. I'm almost embarrassed to write this as I'm an ER Physician and should have known better. I went to Dr. Tomcik for the CO2 Fractional Laser treatment. One thing I noticed was that I always seemed to be the only patient in the waiting room. Dr. Tomcik talked extensively about himself, his personal life and his travels which was odd as I was there for a consultation. However, I elected to go through the procedure although I had my misgivings. Afterwards, I was in severe pain but had to return to work regardless. On one of my shifts, the pain was so bad that one of my nurses brought me some Silvadene cream to put on my face. It's a well known fact amongst doctors that Silvadine is the recommended treatment for pain related skin burns. When I spoke to Dr. Tomcik about my experience the next day and told him I had to use this cream, he stated that he had never heard of it! At that very moment I realized I HAD BEEN HAD by a smooth talking quack and shame on me. btw. Other than suffering through a horrible facial burn there was ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGE IN THE APPEARANCE OF MY SKIN! However, there was a change in Dr. Tomcik's bank account to the tune of $5,000. I saw Dr. Tomcik a while back for a skin evaluation for possible pre-cancerous lesions. I am a fair skinned female. When you go in for a cancer screening, you do have to wear a paper gown. In simplistic terms, Dr. Tomcik seemed very unorthodox and unprofessional. Bottom line? I am a person that is very, very difficult to offend. I work with 90% men and I can hold my own with the best of them; however, Dr. Tomcik left me feeling distinctively creeped out. I don't really care to elaborate but I'll say I am in complete agreement with Tracie R's review. Additionally, he was arrogant and seemed like the type of doctor that would go talk to himself in the mirror in between patients to say how fabulous he is to his reflection. I never went back. Be advised that my review will be followed by a lengthy complaint to the medical board. I've been seeing Dr. Tomcik for several years. I complained of inappropriate sexual references in my early visits and was promptly transferred to a female practitioner, which worked well until she left. Saddened that she left, but tempered by the passing time, I agreed to resume my visits with Dr. Tomcik. Aside from the length of the visits (he's chatty and a bit scattered), things went well. This changed on June 9, 2014. I had an appointment to remove skin tags (something I've been doing for years at that office). Despite the fact that Dr. Tomcik has seen me on numerous occasions, he immediately used a device meant to "freeze" things on my skin and casually asked as he was burning my arm if he's used the device in the past. I promptly exclaimed in a high pitch voice that he has never used the device and that it was painful. I reminded him that I suffer from Fibromyalgia (something that he is well aware of) and could not take the pain. He then recoiled and took out the laser that has always been used at my visits. He then continued my treatment without the use of a numbing agent/topical solution (that is always used during my visits) or ice (again, always used during my treatments). The worst part is that he went right at my skin and told me that he couldn't "see anything!" I was horrified and advised that the tags were clearly visible on my skin. Very long story short: it was the most painful treatment I have ever endured and at the hands of a physician that is well aware of my medical history and the long list of medications I take for pain related to several nerve conditions. Unfortunately, Dr. Tomcik didn't have the time to listen to my complaints because he was already out of the building before I could manage to leave his office. Apparently he had a hot lunch date, which explained the hurried manner in which he botched my treatment. As a result, he managed to cause me a great deal of pain, embarrassment and expense. I'm not sure if his lack of professional prowess was a result of a bad day or diminishing capacity, but I will file the necessary complaint and update my review. Please look elsewhere and avoid the pain and humiliation of experiencing what I went through. read more
