I'm really between a 3 and a 4 on this one - have gone a few times and each experience was a little different. Overall, great price on food - and it's pretty decent food too! (They have free popcorn if you're just feeling a little snacky too.) Our service has been hit or miss - always friendly but sometimes on the slower side. They had live music one of the times we have been there and it was pretty loud in the space, making it hard to have any conversations. Unsure if it was just the band they had that evening or if it's always that loud. They post their schedule for live music on their website so you can know ahead of time if they'll have a band there or not. :) Definitely worth checking out if you're in town. They have a nice selection of brews and a menu with lots of variety (I've tried a few things and always been pleased)! read more

Hungry and thirsty could be the pseudo for the Noggin...family friendly and affordable pub located in the circa 1899 Perry Hotel entry level.There is a historic feel to this walk in and sit down wooden table mug ceiling lined casual eatery. This is not a foodie palate place....but there are some menu notables worthy of $$$ venues. First, the sidewinder fries are a crossover of Potato skins and traditional. Add malt vinegar at the table and ....well..you tell me where it's better. 2nd, Crostini Asiago bread appetizer with marinara Marano sauce and basil...ok, all you need is a good red for the late night eve. Simple bar and food. Good, cozy and nicely located on whatever bay is outside. The bartender Michael makes the place extraordinary. Super knowledgeable about the area and the 100 year old property. He's also an expert drink hacker. Ask for an Oberade, beer lovers. read more

This is my favorite place in Petoskey to hang out for nightlife for a number of reasons: 1) Girafees (enormous cylinders of beer with a tap on it for your table) 2) Live Music: Sean Ryan and others play a lot of great acoustic and folk inspired tunes appropriate for the N. Michigan setting. Good performers as well. 3) Good food: Food is very good because the place is actually a hotel 4) Scene: This is one of the most frequently lively places in Petoskey, another area where being part of the Perry helps 5) Location: It's a classic location in the center of Petoskey's historic district in walking distance from just about everything in Petoskey. 6) Great beer selection...hint: Oberon I love this place. It's one of the only reasons I'll drag my ass out to be DD in Petoskey every once in a while. read more

Had a very good meal there - all the benefits of the perry hotel menu, without all the stuffiness. Three of us had the planked whitefish, one had the ribs. All were very good. As a bonus, the "veranda" was open, so we ate outside with a great view of Little Traverse Bay. Good staff, Good service, good food. Ordered 5 meals out with the family. Burger for 3 of us, turkey burger for 1 and grouper tacos. All the patties were pre-made and not very good. Turkey burger was gamey/freezer burned. Fish tacos had enough stuff on them to make them decent. They had nice crunchy coconut crust to hide the frozen fish texture. Seafood chowder was good. Service was solid too. Everything was fast but not great. Won't come back next time in town. Bummer because the down stairs pub atmosphere was cool. Basically didnt think I could go wrong with a burger but they just cook up frozen food and put condiments on it. read more

Was in town for the first time. I always find the best thing to do is ask the locals. We asked two different locals and both 1st answer was Roggins. With that said, we had to check it out. We loved the basement pub vibe and the live music by a one man band was pretty awesome. The food i would say is above average. Had a burger and the whitefish tacos that the waitress recommended. What a great atmosphere, had a live band, it was a little loud in there even before the band started playing but still enjoyable. Our server was very attentive, don't remember her name (young, short blonde girl) but she did a wonderful job. Wife and I ordered the bbq chicken pizza and buffalo chicken dip, both very good, the dip wasn't too hot more mild sauce type. Our favorite time to go to the Noggin Room is on Sundays, for their pizza and pint special. You can get a 3-topping pizza for $10, and Michigan beers on draught for $2 a pint! The room can get pretty busy & noisy; in the summer you can sometimes score a table on the patio or, very rarely, out on the Rose Garden Veranda when it's not booked for private events. Kids will enjoy trying to "crack the safe" in the bar: If they can open it, you can win a night's stay at the hotel! read more

Great first experience. Definitely a go to for locals and tourists. The atmosphere is great with amazing servers and also child-friendly. There is also a great outdoor seating option. The service was excellent with no complaints. The food was well above average, if not, great. Instead of the usual bread before meals, they serve free popcorn to the table, which was super good and a family favorite. I ordered the fish and chips which were phenomenal in my opinion because the batter was not thick and overwhelming to the fish itself. The sidewinder fries were also a family favorite and were devoured quickly. However, due to the small restaurant building, it is pretty loud with doors slamming from people going in and out, furthermore the Wisconsin cheese curds looked and tasted like Mozzarella sticks. To wrap this up, a very well put together pub with many menu options and apps. Definite recommendation. read more

Sweet server, great mushroom appetizer, good beer. White fish sandwich, which I will order whenever I can, had a piece of fish that just barely covered half of the bun. I asked to have the coleslaw put on the side and not on the sandwich. Server said no problem...problem! Soggy. I sent mine back. My sister did not. Our friend ordered the Italian panini. It had one piece of meat on it. We had to really look to see it. To make sure it was there. These sandwiches were $12.00! I'm not opposed to paying good money for a good sandwich but this was ridiculous. Plus the wait for our food was long and it was not that busy. Our server went to see "what could be done for us". VERY BAD experience. Took over an hour to get a salad and two sandwiches. Table next to us was seated after us and was done, paid and left before we received our order. Manager was very indifferent, made excuses and didn't even buy us a drink. Waitress did not know the menu, got a drink incorrect and barely spoke English. No one is judging you in this location and you can always find something that will suit your tastes. Our family picks here first for most of our meals out because it is famiy friendly. I've been going to the Noggin room for over 5 years. I always just thought it was ok but enjoyed the atmosphere and sometimes they have good bands. My fiance and his friends have been going here most of their lives. The food has continually been getting worse, beer list is just ok, and management is the worst! My fiance and all of his friends did the mug challenge and earned their "free mugs". At some point, they lost his mug. I understand these things happen so after I was told they would not replace it without us purchasing a replacement I paid to have his mug remade as a Christmas gift. For the last 2 years when we are in the area we stop to see if his mug has been made/found. Every time we are told that their "system is down" and they can't check. Last 2 times, I insisted on talking to a manager... the manager snuck out the back door after making me wait for an hour. I was told the manager would call me... of course I'm still waiting. I've tried calling to talk to the manager and always get the runaround. At this point, I just want my money back! This is considered theft in my eyes! read more

Our bartender let us know that they made a very good pizza so we settled in and had the best pizza we have had up-north in a long time. All home made and GOOD cheese. Sunday's are really the only time this place is tolerable. The drafts are all $2 and a 3 topping pizza is $12. The rest of the menu is pretty forgettable especially the fish tacos, unless you like fried breading wrapped in a soggy flour tortilla.
