Went on a ncaaf game night and it was busy at the bar but no so much everywhere else. Not local to the area so we checked this play out. Have to say, probably the most delicious fried shrimp and fried pickles, and I'm not a fried pickle kind of person. Got the burger and at first it was way too salty. We are local and get takeout from here every once in a while and the quesadillas are really hit or miss. Sometimes you get chips, sometimes not. We asked for extra orange sauce and got extra sour cream. My order had actual chips, while my father's had broken pieces like from the bottom of the bag. Not big enough to even get salsa on. Both orders were extremely greasy. The grease soaked through the bottom of the box so we had to lay paper towels down so it wouldn't get everywhere, even though it did. Had to put quesadillas on napkins first to soak up the grease from the puddle they were in. It was really quite unappetizing and unfortunately I don't think we will be returning for a while. read more

The food took over an hour to get to the table and one of our friends got their quesadilla once we were all done eating. Most of our 6 person party was served cold or lukewarm food. We got our appetizer the same time as dinner. They offered mostly IPAs, about 3 out of the 25 options were not IPAs and 2 of them were out. I ordered an old fashion and it was ok... not listed on the menu and was $14!!! They were also out of butter for the baked potatoes. I am a little surprised at some of the reviews I've read about this place being bad, but maybe you can chalk it up to either being Covid, or the fact that when we went it wasn't busy. It wasn't until we were leaving (12pm) that people were starting to file in. The first highlight I think is the place itself. It's a great building, it's a small city so you don't have to spend a lot of time choosing a place. Inside it's like a lot of tap rooms, open, airy, fairly long bar, number of taps. Someone whined about them being mostly IPAs...that was not the case when we went. They had a fine selection including a couple of high ABVs (Dragon's Milk) and a variety of other beer styles. I don't remember what I had but it was an IPA and it was good, it wasn't very cold but enough for me to enjoy sipping it. I had a George Dickel Rye shot after that was decent. I would come back for the other beers were I there. My girlfriend and I shared their Garlic Teriyaki wings and they were delicious. I don't know if they were the best I've had but very good - crispy, tender, and bathed in this sauce that was both garlicky and very teriyaki. Yum. Service was fine, our bartender wasn't all over us but also checked on us as needed. There were also two waitresses ready to tackle the crowd, so I don't know, maybe they've upped their game or the people complaining...are being picky... So if you're in the area, don't hesitate to give it a try, and really, I was close to four stars. read more

They first told us the wait was 20 mins for 2 and it ended up being about an hour and some change, when we finally sat down we realized that the place was half empty and they still couldn't get their shit together and get people into the restaurant. We were sitting in the dead set middle of the restaurant and watched for about 40 minutes as family's around us got their service and food, multiple waiters and waitresses walking by and serving everyone except us, we just got up and left. I ordered a grilled cheese with fries fried pickles and my sister ordered the perch sandwich our food was very disappointing the fries were cold, her sweet potato fries were burnt. Her perch sandwich had three little strips of perch there was no mayonnaise on the bread just a dry bun with arugula and the three little strips. It wasn't even really that tasty. The fried pickles were the best thing that we had. The service was OK but this restaurant was not really impressive to me. read more

It always seems like no one knows what's going on or know what to do when a customer walks in. I only ever get carry out. One final note- it is so incredibly overpriced for mediocre food I could get at 3 different places in a 5 mile radius. This is a combo review for the Boyne City Tap room and the Pine Lake Lodge (their upstairs bar). We stopped into the Pine Lake Lodge on Thursday during their trivia and sat at the bar. Service was solid, the pizza was really good, too. The trivia was meh. I play a lot of trivia and it just seemed like there was way too much time in between questions, way too much opportunity for teams to look up answers, and a lot of the questions were completely out of left field. Not sure if they do the trivia in-house or hire out for it, but just didn't like it at all. Overall though, I'd give Pine Lake Lodge 4-stars. It's too bad they have limited hours. The Boyne City Tap Room has advertised hours until 11pm. All over the place. Even inside the place. We rolled in at 9:45 on Friday night and even with a few tables of people still left in the place, they said they were shutting down at 10pm. I know Boyne City isn't an easy place for businesses...especially when you're occupying a space as large as this one. I know that May isn't exactly the "hot" season, but I gotta imagine that if you stayed open past 10pm on a Friday, you'd at least gain some local regulars. Maybe they're trying to cut down on labor and funnel everyone upstairs to the Pine Lake Lodge. Not sure. Anyway...good beer selection. Haven't eaten there. Just worried that this place is going to be the next failed business at that location. read more

What. A. Mess. I'll outline our experience with bullet points: Positives: 1) They have a nice downstairs room for large parties. 2) Their burgers, wraps, and chips were great. . Challenges: 1) We were told we should order pizzas early, but when it came time to do so, we were told it wouldn't be an issue. However, pizzas came out after every other person had already finished their meals, and they were doughy -- completely undercooked. We were told "The oven wasn't ready." 2) Many items were prepared incorrectly. We had several items that were not brought to us. Some were still included on our bill. We identified these items and they were still included. 3) Our server told us that our food would be on one bill. She refused to separate checks. She wouldn't allow us to calculate each party and run credit cards for each group's amount. She said she could only put it on one or evenly split because her manager told her to do it that way. It didn't matter that we wanted it separated and were willing to put in the leg work; she continued to refuse. I have worked in different restaurants and understand the stress of a large party, but our server was stressed from the moment she approached us. That attitude is infectious. When your server is anxious and has a hard time accommodating requests, it influences the mood of guests. Which leads me to my conclusion... This restaurant is not good for large parties. There were three other tables in the entire restaurant, but it was still somehow impossible to accommodate us. This is inexcusable. Working in a restaurant isn't easy, but this restaurant just isn't equipped for success when the server is high-stress immediately upon approaching our table, orders are brought out incorrectly, items are missing, and they cannot split checks. This is not only an issue for the server, but really for all staff involved. Go elsewhere. read more

We were enjoying the afternoon on the outdoor patio with our dog until our food was ready and it started pouring rain. There were tables open with umbrellas and when we asked to move to a covered table the hostess told us " we could not have a new table because she had a wait list to work through and that we could take our food to go." There were multiple tables open on the patio under umbrellas at the time we asked to move because everyone had left the patio due to the pouring rain. Manager Evan became involved and was extremely rude and disrespectful, trying to charge us for food we never even received before it started pouring rain. We will not be going back. read more
