Came here for lunch and it was very busy. Fortunately wait time was only 10-15 mins. The staff were nice enough to give us cool water while we sat outside on these tiny tables and chair. Very cute. The food was pretty good. My favorite is the egg tarts. I would dare to say they are the best I've had in the Bay Area.

Like many restaurants in the area, this place closes at 8:00 PM. However, unlike many Hong Kong-style cafés that advertise a 9:00 PM closing time but stop serving food and accepting customers as early as 8:30 PM, this restaurant welcomes everyone who arrives before 8:00 PM and lets them enjoy their meal without feeling rushed. Guests can still order everything they want before the kitchen closes, which I really appreciate. My favorites are the oyster sauce tossed noodles and the oyster sauce rice noodles. The pan-fried turnip cake is also crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth trying. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food.

love their greens - so tender with a hint of ginger

quite the hype - there is always a line in place here- so far , one of the cleanest chinese food in Milbrae we tried in our 8 months here - they serve the real Assam Milk tea, their chow mein is the cheapest so far across that Broadway area - though they don't use green scallions like Laka did, it was good to share and their greens are so tender and easy to bite. Their beef place is also tender but not a fan of their flat noodles. Servers are nice and attentive

A friend is a frequent diner here, someone who shares a similar palate to mine. He'd text me photos of what he was eating which looked delicious and mouthwatering. On a Sunday evening, another friend was with me for an event a few blocks away and I suggested that we stop here for dinner. We found parking about a half block away around 6:30 pm. I saw an iPad unit and a notepad on the desk with names, crossed out and not. I saw a couple of empty tables but started to write my name there when a young lady greeted me and asked the # in our party (2). She led us to a table near the window, the 2nd one away from it, before bringing us tall cups of hot tea. There were two menus already on the table so we studied them before deciding on our meals. I started with the smashed iced lemon tea (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=aqHrRkHRLyjmSWS-c251mQ); the lemon slices were literally smashed so the lemon juice/flavor was prominent here. I nursed it for most of the night as hot tea was given too. Kudos to them for serving it in a plastic cup with a lid so I could bring it with me to go afterwards. The sugar level (requested at 50%) was perfect for me. For my dinner, I had the curry beef brisket & tendon rice (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=XQlaxBfxtd-hOgA6xJkIQQ), slow braised beef brisket and tendon in curry with potato, carrot; bring a HK themed restaurant, the cook was consistent with what you'd likely find on the island, a thinner and mild curry sauce; I debated between having the wonton noodle soup (often pictures shared from the friend who recommended this place) and this. Do note that their rendition is consistent with Hong Kong style cuisine with a thinner curry sauce (more watery) as opposed to the Japanese version that's thick and often potato based. The flavors are there but was not spicy so I poured a few spoonfuls of garlic sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=M3_BqhBHeSi1V1nHbMQISA) on one side of the plate and added as I ate. The brisket and tendon were fork tender as there is more brisket than tendon (3 pcs. to my order). The carrots and potatoes were nice accompaniments. I also liked that they put the rice on one side so the diner can mix with the sauce and protein to his/her liking. Service was standard as the cup is pretty tall so tea refills were not needed. I ended up bringing my lemon tea home with me. In meeting a friend later in the week, he shared pro tips for my next time here. I'll add it on an update if it's worthy. Looking forward to exploring more items especially the sweets.

    Pork & Shrimp Wonton Noodle

Had a chance to check this spot out recently. The place was crowded, which is always a good sign for this type of food, but definitely be prepared for a wait. My advice? Stick to small groups of 4 and try to go close to opening to avoid the crowds. The service was nice and impressively efficient despite the hustle. The Food: Wonton Noodle Soup: A bit of a mixed bag. The flavor was there, but some wontons had a thick dough left at the top from the wrap. It's a small technical detail that could be easily fixed by how it's wrapped, but it dampened the experience slightly. Hon Kee is still the standard for wonton noodles up in SF, but this is a decent effort. Braised Beef Wonton Noodle: This was the winner. The beef was perfectly tender and tasty. HK Milk Tea: Hit the spot. Overall: A good experience. Even with the minor wonton critique, I'm looking forward to heading back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

4.5 STARS Nom Nom Bistro has your wallet in mind with filling entrees starting at $11.95...and nothing is over $17.95. Take that $20 salads...well, $26 if you want chicken. Ridic. Opening last summer, Nom Nom Bistro has been a hit with locals craving Cantonese and HK Cafe comfort food. It took a couple of tries but I've found my go-tos! M E N U Specialty: HK Wonton Noodle Soup. They also have a variety of dumplings, braised meats, jook, rice dishes, and desserts: milk custard, tofu pudding, egg tarts, and more. Soy milk is housemade. F O O D * Taro Cake 芋頭糕 (Special - $8.95): https://tinyurl.com/bderj86z The housemade taro cake was crispy on the outside and chockfull of tender, earthy taro. Delicious with chili sauce. TIP: Pan-fry leftovers with eggs to make bột chiên or chai tow kway. * Handmade Potstickers 手工锅贴 w/ pork + cabbage (8 pc - $10.25): https://tinyurl.com/bdhkefhf Thin, chewy skin with a savory pork and cabbage filling. I prefer crispier bottoms but they were otherwise fine. * Rice Noodle Roll w/ xo sauce 醬炒腸粉 ($7.45): https://tinyurl.com/5n92enuv LOVED THIS! Chewy rice noodles studded with dried shrimp and pan-fried, great wok hei with crispy, caramelized bits. The housemade XO sauce added a rich umami and a kick of heat. * Braised Beef Brisket Wonton Noodles 广式牛筋腩云吞面 ($17.95): https://tinyurl.com/ybmzjzn3 - Add extra four wonton +$4.95, cross-section: https://tinyurl.com/2rm96zfp * Braised Brisket Wonton Noodles 广式牛筋腩云吞面 ($17.95): https://tinyurl.com/5ds3u39c - Request lo mien "dry" style +$2 Between the two styles, I prefer the lo mien "dry" style; soup is served on the side. - Wonton: Plump and juicy with savory pork and snappy morsels shrimp. They don't skimp on the shrimp. - Noodles: Perfectly chewy and springy, nicely soaks up the savory sauce from the brisket. - Soup: Light, clean broth with a deep umami and slight briny flavor from the dried flounder and shrimp. - Braised Brisket: Inconsistent between visits - sometimes it's meltingly tender and gelatinous, and sometimes it's chewy. - Veggies: Crunchy choy sum for a well-balanced meal. Their wonton noodles really hits the spot! If you live in Peninsula, it saves you the trip to Hon's or LetsSweet Kitchen (formerly Beyond Café) in the city. * Red Bean Curd Pork Trotter Lo Mien 南乳猪手撈面 ($14.25): https://tinyurl.com/mtz4arbn My current fav entrée at Nom Nom, you receive four large, meaty trotters with silky, gelatinous skin and tender meat that easily pulls off the bone (great for your skin!). They're served over springy wonton noodles that soak up all that rich, delicious sauce. It's savory-sweet with a subtle funk from the fermented red bean curd. So satisfying. * Curry Beef Brisket Rice 咖喱牛腩饭 ($13.95): https://tinyurl.com/3ct97cv3 * Braised Pork Belly Rice 古法焖猪肉饭 ($13.95): https://tinyurl.com/tk3tbnf4 While very budget-friendly and filling, I wasn't a fan of their rice dishes. They tasted like reheated leftovers except they arrived lukewarm. S E R V I C E Cordial and prompt. Shoutout to Kyle! Despite it being busy and the only ones outside, he checks in with us and makes sure our water cups are always filled. A M B I A N C E Casual, modern bistro vibes with about 12 tables inside and two low tables outside. Overall, if you're looking for a legit HK café comfort food, Nom Nom Bistro is the spot to hit up in the Peninsula.

    double skin custard
    Allen W.

big yum ! really big fan of the double skin custard - its got a really nice mild flavor (almost like whole milk or cream top). Also really enjoyed the braised pork belly rice. The pepper chicken feet was not what I was expecting, and a bit too sour/pepper-y/cold for my liking, and cut in half which is not the easiest to eat since since of the bone gets cut and is a little sharp. The osmanthus water chestnut drink was also unexpected, almost medicinal/herbal in flavor, but I quite liked it!

Man this place was busy, but for good reason! I've been loving new HK style restaurants and knew we had to try this one! We came on a Friday night and waited about 25 mins for a table of two. The food came out fairly quickly and service was friendly! Inside is super cute, warm, and well-decorated! And they tried to fit as many tables as possible inside. Overall the food was good! Chive dumplings are yummy. Braised beef brisket and tendon was good. Wontons needed more salt. The noodles were good but also needed more flavor (I had to add a lot of red vinegar). The pork belly had great flavor and I appreciated all the components on the plate! The stars of the night were the desserts!! I havent had black sesame soup that smooth and perfectly sweet outside of HK! And the milk custard was also amazing!! And for a fair price! Overall, this place represents HK well and we will be back to try more dishes!!

Beef brisket & tendons wonton noodles soup
    Christine C.

A solid wonton noodle spot! The space is well-lit and very popular with locals. While they sometimes offer a Yelp waitlist, even when the waitlist is not active, there might still be a wait; you put your name on the paper waitlist. Turnover is fast though so the wait is not bad. Service was quick and friendly. As others have mentioned, the beef brisket & beef tendons are yummy, and perfect with the wonton noodles together. I also had the osmanthus water chestnut drink, which was refreshing. We ran into friends dining here also and they gave Nom Nom Bistro's egg tart a thunbs-up; we'll have to try it next time! Overall, while we still prefer Hon Kee in SF (Irving location), we are glad to have Nom Nom Bistro as an option in the Peninsula and will definitely be back!

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty albeit chilly experience. Parking is available in the city owned surface lot behind the restaurant or on nearby streets. Dining is available both indoors or outdoors. The front door was left wide open during lunch making it an awfully chilly experience... Started off with the HK milk tea and it was decent. I've had stronger and smoother tea in HK. The rice noodle rolls with XO sauce was quite tasty. Portions were generous too. The pan fried chives dumplings were tasty. They were made in house and portions were gigantic. The wonton beef brisket wide noodles soup was tasty. The noodles were fresh and the broth was flavorful. Portions were generous too. The wontons were light and plump. The beef brisket and tendons were decent. Cash and credit are the same price.

First visit and just opened. Came via recommendation from a friend. Since opening there's always a line for lunch and dinner. The menu is very limited, mostly wonton noodles, soup noodles, and Chinese tapas like marinated chicken feet, pickled cucumbers, other delicacies. I enjoyed the wontons and crispy pickled cucumbers. This is really a Chinese comfort food palace. Not decorated lavishly tho. The staff is very attentive and polite. I plan to go back to my comfort place - this place. This is a relative new restaurant selling quick Chinese Cantonese food. I went because my neighbor wanted to try it. It's very similar to the other quick bite place across from the 7-11 (but now changed to hainan chicken restaurant). I guess the main selling point is the Cantonese wonton dumplings for this restaurant. There really are not many choices but if you come here you kinda know what to expect. The place is surprisingly popular among locals so you often would need to wait a bit. The food is alright but I can't say I'm impressed enough to want to come back. It's just like a McDonald's in that you know what to expect and not much to talk about. I'm not a fan of Cantonese noodles in general as they are not chewy enough and often has that alkali smell and taste. The wonton/dumplings are alright and they are plump enough. I think they are slightly expensive for what you get. The vegetarian goose (mushroom wrapped with tofu skin) is good as it's a common Cantonese dimsum stable. Service is good enough and place is new so fairly comfortable. A solid 3 star I guess.

Nom Nom Bistro was open on Easter Sunday evening, so we decided to try them out. When we got there, we put our name down on the waitlist. It took about 20 minutes for the 4 of us to be seated. Casual cafe style type of spot. The waitstaff that took our order was friendly and efficient. ***OUR PICKS*** BEEF BRISKET AND TENDON WONTON NOODLE SOUP ~ beef brisket and tendons with wontons (4) and a choice of noodles. I chose the thick flat egg noodles. Tendon and stew meat was soft and cooked well. Wontons had nice shrimp filling. Though the noodles could have been less cooked. It wasn't overcooked, yet it wasn't "crispy" and quickly blanched like some I've had. I think it's because it's paper thin that it's difficult to get that texture with those noodles. Still enjoyable! 4/5 CURRY BEEF BRISKET AND TENDON RICE ~ slow braised beef brisket and tendon in curry with potatoes and carrots. The person who had this dish said the curry wasn't at all spicy nor that flavorful. The menu had a chili pepper to indicate that it would be spicy, but it wasn't. Meat was good and tender and they gave a generous helping of rice. But he probably wouldn't order it again. 3.5/5 RED BEAN CURD PORK TROTTERS WITH THICK FLAT DRY NOODLES ~ tender pork trotters slowly braised in fermented red bean curd with a choice of noodles or rice. My guy ordered this and felt the same about the noodles. It was slightly more cooked than he would have liked. Pork trotters were soft and tender, perfectly cooked. Flavor was good too. But my guy was still hungry. He probably needed to order an appetizer along with his entree. 4/5 SILKIE CHICKEN SOUP WITH GINSENG ~ my daughter had this because she wasn't too hungry. She said it's your typical herbal soup, though it wasn't tasty and plated nicely. 4/5 PUFF PASTRY EGG TARTS ~ we all wanted this though thinking about it, we could have gotten another dessert for a variety. However, we were happy to each have an egg tart to finish off the meal. Not the flakiest crust like phyllo pastry, but it was flaky. Custard was barely sweetened but nice and custard-y! 4.5/5 Overall, it's a solid choice if you want wonton noodle soup. But the menu is limited. My daughter actually wanted soy sauce chow mein, but they ran out! I'm not sure if there's always a wait, but it seems like a popular spot among the Asian crowd. I'd like to come back and try the other tempting desserts like black sesame paste or the double skim milk custard. Others mentioned they were also delicious.

They are busy and popular for Saturday and Sunday lunch and dinner . It was not easy to find near by parking ( caused we arrived later like 12 noon ) . We found street parking a few blocks away and walked to The Kitchen . The table and pig were ready as scheduled. We have ordered a few favorite dishes as mixed mushrooms stir fried chicken filet , Fish mew chicken soup , Fuji seafood fried rice with gravy . And I took two dim sum from the cart ( stewed chicken feet in Abalone sauce and steamed beef rice roll) . All the food was delicious. The suckling pig was tender enough like a baby pig , the skin was thin And crispy. It came with steamed bun and hoisin sauce and some vegetables to be eaten together . Six of us finished the whole pig and all the dishes . We only had some fried rice left to bring home for next meal . Great service and good food . The suckling pig has better quality than the majority of the Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area . You would need to order 3 days in advance . I would not recommend the " to go " option cause the crispy skin will not taste the same when you put aluminum foil cover on a roasted pig . Great birthday present for the family member!

In the lamb pot, the soy pieces were dry and rough. In another mixed veg dish, the veggie piece was stringy and not very chewable. A few dishes were overly salty. Hot and sour soup was very mild and different from the standard at other places, which is ok because half my table liked that and half did not, just preferences Service is fine and efficient! Casual ambiance, loud typical restaurant volume Appreciate the complimentary red bean soup in the end of meal!

The first thing I noticed was that there was really not many pieces of ribs, maybe they made the ribs portion smaller to make room for the lap cheung I ordered? The dish description also says that it includes taro, but I didn't have a single piece of taro in my pot. Strangely, although this place seems to share a kitchen with Social Eatery, the rice was cooked much more poorly here, which is obviously a shame for a place specializing in clay pot rice. It seems like the rice had too much water added, so it was a bit overcooked - you couldn't feel the "single grain" mouthfeel texture you should expect from well-cooked, high quality rice. Since the rice was too mushy, it obviously didn't crisp well either. Though it had some small amount of bits stuck to the edges of the metal (not clay!) pot, it was definitely not the super crispy, well browned "faan ziu" I expect, and not at all like the pictures featured in some earlier reviews of this restaurant.

So I recommend going for dinner. The must-get is the sweet and sour pork. It's perfectly evenly fried, super chewy and crispy outer layer, and a thin pork layer. The sauce is sweet and tangy. Another delicious dish is the BBQ green beans. The mushrooms are super juicy and the cumin goes surprisingly well with the green beans. One of the biggest surprises was the sweet and sour pork, which ended up being one of my favorite dishes of the meal. I usually load up on carbs, but this visit was all about the protein and there was no shortage of options. The portion sizes are absolutely massive, which always wins me over. They have just about every organ meat you could ask for, and I liked that all the sides and meats are displayed clearly if you want to order by the pound instead of from the menu. Service was fast and friendly. Now I just need to recruit a bigger group so we can come back, order family style, and work our way through more of the menu.

While every dim sum was delicious based on our 9-person table consumption that had almost no take-home boxes, the Chicken Feet was my favorite, with extra large claws and unique, delicious marinade sauce (I don't recall this with chicken feet elsewhere). Unlike most Chinese restaurants, the service staff were surprisingly cordial. While very busy, they still managed to be quick and smile. Waitresses were accommodating and helped us take group photos as we celebrated Dad's 94th birthday with three tables of 25 people. To wrap it all up, we decided to pay in the front due to slower service and was met with attitude and being questioned about the legitimacy of our receipt to pay. ??? The only good thing I would say is that the food tasted great, but pairing it with how slow the food came out and the negative attitude we met, I would not recommend nor patron this place again. Seafood clay pot- more tofu than seafood but still a tasty and well seasoned clay pot. Also ordered a couple of dim sum plates (Shrimp dumpling & beef Balls). But I'm not upset at all about this impromptu decision as we had a great meal here. Our table of 6 ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. the most notable items for me were the spicy wontons and fish in chili oil. The dishes were spicy but not so much so that you couldn't enjoy the actual flavors of the dish. For those that like the Szechuan tingling feeling, the chicken in explosive chilis was also quite good. We had also given the string beans, green onion pancake, and pork and shrimp dumplings a shot and all of them hit the spot. I'm usually a huge fan of braised beef noodle soup so decided to get that here too. It wasn't the same as if I had gotten this dish at a Taiwanese restaurant; compared to the strong flavors of the other dishes, this one was pretty mild. So it's something I would skip next time I come, but every other dish was on point. Our waitress was also great at taking care of us, bring out our food quickly and helping us to clear the other plates. Even after we finished our meal and overstayed our welcome by continuing to chat, the staff didn't make us feel rushed to leave.

Coming here on a Saturday after making dinner reservations on a late Saturday afternoon, I saw a number of familiar faces immediately. Half of their staff are from the Monterey Blvd. Won Kok Restaurant. This was my 1st time dining here in likely close to thirty years when it was another restaurant. Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. Steamed surf clams with garlic and vermicelli noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=lPyTuWkX4RoUtP-3fZ2UiA) - These were served in two halves on each plate (four plates for eight shells) for our party of eight. Tasty, flavorful, and fresh as their flagship location in San Francisco. 2. Soy sauce supreme seasoned prawns, 2.5 lbs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=wYtIFMiiYTuhOa_CmggLrQ) - I actually requested "West Lake" shrimp but was subbed out by this. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. Golden fried rice with a touch of egg white (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CZdyzi720mOckNXxHulS4g) - Another restaurant recommended dish, we were amazed at how tasty this was, given the simplicity of its description. Apologies for not having a full serving photo as the captain offered and agreed to him apportioning it in bowls for each diner. 9. Crispy skin roast chicken with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=TspHX9eknS496I3zXwVwlQ) - This is their innovative twist on the Cantonese favorite jia zhi chicken with a strong garlic flavor. The carving of the decorative chicken head (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=DaywI5br-WQb9hh0a5sgng) was impressive. 10. Green bean tapioca soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=12ljEfFOj8tqwIaBXHvTVw) - Complimentary, a nice ending. 11. Red bean paste pastries (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MwjmcyVoyHVXnmPRWYuM8w) - Complimentary and okay. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. Highly recommend making reservations especially weekends. More likely to dine at their flagship but will come for special occasions or with South Bay friends.
