The Cantonese style food is delicious and the portions are great. The interior is nicely decorated, love their elaborate ceiling decorations. They also have a very large screen at the front of the restaurant, soccer game on the night we went, not sure what they usually have onscreen. Service is very friendly and pleasant but it took awhile to order and for our food to come. Included appetizers: boiled peanuts and pickled veggies. Both are delicious, note if someone has a peanut allergy. Beef with Longan - my favorite, it had a sweet and sour sauce, the beef is very tender, and I loved the longan in the stir fry! Green beans with fermented olives - nicely done, the person who ordered it liked the flavor and tender texture. Seafood and tofu clay pot - the shrimp and scallops were amazing in this dish. It's a little bit spicy but the person who ordered it liked it. Singapore noodles - very nicely done. Everyone liked this dish. The food was amazing! So authentic it was hard to read the menu because Chinese is first. So we knew we were in a good spot. There were only two of us so we couldn't order everything we wanted. Prawns came out first. Piping hot and crispy with that slight sweetness. They were cooked perfectly, super tender on the inside! Green beans next, also piping hot. They were sautéed with pork mince and who knows what sauce, but they were BY FAR the best green beans I've ever had. Couldn't get enough of them!! Beef chow fun was also amazing. The meat was so tender and flavorful, but we had gorged on shrimp and beans, so I didn't really want the chow fun anymore. It's a very large space. Makes your meal feel comfortable. The children high chairs were not sticky or dirty! Not many Chinese restaurants can claim this status! The food itself was a solid 3.89. Options were great like the Zhongshan dim sum and squab. But, the rice rolls and anything that used rice flour were a little bit of a miss ...a bit on the thicker skin and chewy side. I had both dim sum and dinner at Yan Peninsula in Millbrae, and overall it's a solid spot for classic Cantonese dishes whether you're with friends or family. The interior is bright and clean, which is a nice change from some of the older, cramped dim sum spots. The restaurant itself is quite large, but it didn't feel like there were enough staff working to match the space, which left some areas feeling a little empty and under attended. The place has a lot of potential, but the constantly looping broken video and audio during both brunch and dinner really distracted from the experience, and made the ambiance harder to overlook. On the food side, the shumai were excellent, and the charcoal salted egg yolk buns were good. I would avoid the soup dumplings though, they were underwhelming. For dinner, the clams were not fresh, which was disappointing, but the squab specials more than made up for it. At $13 per squab, it's easily the best deal I've had. Where I'm from, that's unheard of. Overall, despite a few misses, it's worth checking out if you want big, flavorful Cantonese dishes in a clean, casual setting. read more

We normally go to Dim Sum King, but this place was recommended to us, so we decided to give it a try -- and it ended up being a pleasant surprise. The dining room is very spacious, and the ornate ceiling décor gives it a nicer vibe than you might expect. They also have a giant screen playing Chinese music videos, which adds a fun, lively touch without being too distracting. We came in for Saturday lunch and were seated right away (party of two). Service was quick and efficient. We ordered the usual basics -- siu mai and har gow -- and they were fine: pretty dense, nothing too standout. I actually ordered the wrong shrimp rice noodle roll by mistake, but it ended up being really good. The crispy shrimp fried noodle roll was the real standout -- super unique with that bright orange rice noodle wrapped around a crunchy layer and shrimp. Tons of flavor and definitely something we'd come back for. Parking, however, sucks. It's Millbrae, so it's always hit or miss, but this area is especially tight. A year ago I would've given this place 4 stars but today it just missed the mark. The bolo bbq bun deserves 1 star because the bread stinks of fermentation and overdue dairy and management refused to acknowledge that the ingredients had gone bad and claimed no one else had complained about it. Finally got to try Yan Peninsula after Yum's Bistro closed in Fremont. We came on a Monday at lunch time and there was no waiting even though the restaurant was relatively full. We even managed to get a parking spot in their parking lot. The restaurant is spacious with a glamorous ceiling. Table spacing is decent and comfortable. We were served our tea promptly and food came out at a nice pace. We ordered an assortment of dim sum: baked BBQ pork buns, house special shrimp Siu Mai, Siu Mai with shrimp, tangerine flavored beef balls, beef rice rolls, deep fried taro puffs, Chinese sausage buns, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves, and bean curd skin rolls. This is a two part review for two separate visits. Once for lunch and one for a banquet. Sorry for the lack of photos both visits I was wrapped up with other responsibilities. First visit - Dim Sum We had a party of 10 and I was a guest. The service was good and everything ordered was delicious. It was kind of a work meeting so I was unable to really focus on the food, but the food arrived quickly and everything was piping hot. Second visit - Banquet Again I was kind of working I was the AV support. The restaurant has a very large screen which is connected to a windows pc. It can be used to display images and videos relatively easy. It does not have any additional software other than what comes with the operating system. If you want to play a video or slideshow please plan accordingly. That is bring all the individual components on a flash drive to play. Don't plan on using a PowerPoint presentation unless you bring your own computer. Please note that I brought my Surface Pro and it had display conflicts with the large screen onsite. The banquet dishes were all very good. but the dishes came out very staggered for the 30 tables. It is as if the kitchen isn't quite large enough or the staff wasn't sufficient. My mom and her friends come here every other month or so. The leftovers Mom has brought back have been pretty good. Watch out for the parking lot here. The entrance off Center Street is steep, so if you have a low riding car (even if it's stock), be careful and approach slowly and at an angle. That said, there are two ways to get into the lot, but the entrance off El Camino Real comes up quick and seems narrow for a 2-way. This place to my surprise has been really good. Lately my parents have been obsessed with this place. And we have been bringing friends and family here and they all agree. We have been here maybe 3-5 times within the last few weeks. There are probably little touches here and there where it could be more aesthetic but overall still a really pretty place for those traditional banquet weddings. Overall really good! For all 6 of us it was $153 after tip&tax. Be aware that 18% tip appeared to be already included since we had a large party. If I'm craving a solid dim sum spot with good priced I'd come back here. Came here almost at 7 pm on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait in line nor have a reservation, since I read that they don't really honor reservations so just walked in. Quickly led to a table and dropped off with menus and soon after with some tea. These are the items we ordered: 1) Walnut shrimp/Honey Walnut prawns $26.95 - 3.5/5 - typical, shrimps were crispy, but not evenly coated with enough sauce. Some pieces of walnuts seemed a little stale. When we only had one more dish to come out, a server tried to offer to replace our plates with new plates, but we declined. After we were done, they packed up our leftovers for us and offered us free red bean desserts, sesame balls and some type of almond cookie. The red bean wasn't as sweet as I've typically eaten. It's taking me getting used to all of these updated and hip looking Dim Sum restaurants now and it's very prevalent in the El Camino-Millbrae areas. With the last amazing dim sum place that closed down, these newer restaurants have been popping up in the area. But, Yan Peninsula was a good visit and the food quality is excellent. Tried their usuals like the Shrimp Ha Gow, Sui Mai, Beef Rice Noodle, Pan-fried Dumplings, and even their special Lobster over e-noodles. So good btw! Everything was good, and the tea refills were good. The customers here are a good mix. Saw a pair of 20 or early 30-somethings dining here, just with friends or colleagues, which was interesting. Normally we go to dim sum because family wants to go lol. So it's a comfy place for the younger crowd too, that's awesome! There's a parking lot here, but you may have to circle around for a spot. We stopped by Yan for dim sum before picking up my daughter at SFO, we selected Yan for its convenience to the airport and because I've never tried it before (we usually go to Dragon Beaux - very good, East Ocean in Emeryville, HL Peninsula, used to only go to Hong Kong Flower Lounge in Millbrae before it sadly closed). Our visit confirms that we have yet to find a place as good as Hong Kong Flower Lounge without having to pay for the super expensive Yank Sing dim sum in SF. I was in the San Francisco area for a event and I was craving them some since I was in Chinatown area. I happen to find this place on Yelp and I decided to check it out and get to go. I only ordered a couple dishes and it ended up being almost 30 bucks. I got ha gow and shrimp rice rolls. I ended up waiting more than 30 minutes and almost an hour for food to go. At that point I was pretty upset since no one was answering me and I ordered ahead of time over the phone. Maybe it would have been a different experience if I was sitting down, but it looks like since I was ordering only to go no one remembered. And after when I ate the food didn't seem anything special. No greeting when we got there and took awhile to wave someone down to walk us to an available table. Took down our own order and waved down a waiter to ask the difference of 2 similar dishes -- he did not know and had to ask someone else. This happened twice when we asked him about the food -- you'd think the waiter would know this. Throughout the meal, had to wave people down for any type of service -- for water, for sauces, for the check, for boxes, etc. Not once did anyone ask how things were or if we wanted anything else. They were not even that busy, there were many empty tables so I am not sure why the service fell short. When leaving, the hostess/any of the staff did not say bye or thank you. Not one acknowledgement and just walked by us. AND 18% service charge is automatically added!! Food: 4/5. I'd say it was pretty good, didn't take too long and food came hot. Came here for dimsum on a Sunday at 10am and there was no wait for our party if 4. They don't do the push cart dimsum, so everything is ordered off the menu. Service was what you would expect - a little slow at times and you have to stalk them sometimes to get what you want, especially when it gets busy around 11/11:30ish. But ordering the dishes on the menu and the speed of arrival was just fine in my opinion. We ordered all the dimsum staples (shrimp dumplings, siu mai, changfen, egg tarts, spareribs, etc) and I honestly thought the food was pretty good. It is great also if you have small kids. I've been to this dim sum house numerous times but cell reception always was an issue in getting a review done. So I'm finally able to do a review. First of all, regardless of their low staff issues, they still seemed to effortlessly take care of all their guests, I they're amazing. Very few dim sum places use carts and this place is no different, but the upside is you get real hot dim sum instead of running out if items you may want at the end of the cart run. I may seem over simplistic, but I really enjoy good chicken feet and dry tofu wrapped wood ear, this restaurant does a great job if these dim sums. Their duck feet and duck tongue in soy sauce was a big hit also. Since my friends did most of the ordering, I was most impressed with their choices since they're more sophisticated at ordering than I. I did forget to get a picture of the pigs ears but I can tell you it was darn wonderful. Parking is terrible but I guess that's an indication that this dims sum house is outstanding. read more

I work at the hospitality managment as well, if i were to charge 18% tip on whatever purposes, I would give good customer service to patrons. This place is Ridiculous suck! Food was mediocre at best and no service for water or ask if anything okay at all instead charging you 18% tips which ideally says' " for employee benefits". cut your Cra*! Solid spot for dim sum! They have lots of classic dishes -- my favorites are the regular har gow, siu mai, preserved egg and pork congee, and crispy shrimp rice rolls. The salt & pepper crispy chicken wings were also really good! A big plus is they're open on major holidays and can accommodate large groups on short notice. I came with a party of 20 on New Year Day today and they seated us in about half hour in their private room upstairs. It was really nice to have our own space since and we could be more chaotic without disturbing other customers. The staff is pretty attentive and kept coming upstairs to check on us. The food came out promptly and tasted fresh. Things to note -- the parking lot is pretty tiny. I recommend driving over to the residential area to park at Landing Lane or San Anselmo Ave and walking over. I'll come back to make use of their private room. I used to come here regularly for dim sum with my family. Their food is decent and the service is adequate. We like that it's low drama and there's usually not a long wait. There's a 18% gratuity fee for all but we don't care as we tip at least that much anyway. But something changed for me. They used to only charge the adults for tea as our grade school children are not drinking the tea. In the last year or so their policy has changed and they charge everyone for tea. I take issue with that as that is basically not a tea fee but rather charging per head that enters the restaurant. We ask about it and someone adamantly told us "That's what everyone else does as well!". To challenge that, we decided to try other local dim sum restaurants and found out that both The Kitchen and Won Kok are not charging kids who are clearly not drinking the teas an extra fee. It's only a few dollars but it's the principle for me and reflects the integrity of the business. read more

Came here early at 10:30am on a Wednesday and there was no wait! The menu was quite extensive with dishes I've never seen before, and we ordered via a paper and pen checklist. It took a while for the food to come out, likely because it was relatively empty and everything was made-to-order. Unfortunately, the service wasn't the best, and we had to ask for water and sauces (soy sauce and hot sauce) ourselves and more than once. The desserts came out first, then the steamed items, and finally the fried items. There were more than three types of custard buns, which all tasted very similar but had a different outer coating. My favorite was the Baked Salted Egg Yolk Lava Buns. Compared to Creamy Custard Buns (with the cartoon man stamped on top), it was much more tasteful and the outer crust provided a nice crunchy texture. If I were to come back, I would order only one of the custard buns. We also ordered the dim sum staples like Siu Mai, Shrimp Dumplings, and Spareribs with Black Bean Sauce. All were delicious, especially the Spareribs which wasn't as oily/heavy as other dim sum restaurants I've been to. We went ahead and tried the Corn Shrimp Dumplings in Goldfish Shape too (because we thought they were cute), but were disappointed when they didn't have much flavor nor taste much like corn. I likely wouldn't order this again. For dessert, we went with the egg tarts which were by far my favorite thing we ordered. They were soft and creamy on the top and flaky on the bottom. I would recommend eating them as soon as they come out while they're hot! The prices here were on the more expensive side as well. The dim sum was pretty good, but there are definitely better places in the Santa Clara area. Tips: - Desserts don't take long to prepare, so I would recommend ordering them at the end when you're ready to eat them immediately - Sauces aren't provided at the table, you will need to ask for them read more

First time trying their dim sum dishes which I ordered take out to enjoy at home. I went with my fams staple and ordered the crispy taro, black bean spare ribs, siomai, soy sauce chow mein, chicken feet, and baked bbq pork buns. Overall they were good but because I had waited nearly 50 minutes (waited on the baked bbq pork buns ) I believe they would of been better if all the dishes were equally as freshly cooked as the buns were. read more
