Though this business, visually looks the same, the ownership, management, and chef changed on July 1, 2025. The name change (signage) and menu will change when the business license is approved and new menus bearing the new business name are printed. They did add the 'New SF' prefix the name to distance themselves. Coming here on a Saturday after making dinner reservations on a late Saturday afternoon, I saw a number of familiar faces immediately. Half of their staff are from the Monterey Blvd. Won Kok Restaurant. This was my 1st time dining here in likely close to thirty years when it was another restaurant. Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. This Asian Pearl location has gone through more management changes than I can count over the past decade. I haven't been back for years, as the food went downhill with the old management. The new management is now affiliated with Won Kok on Monterey Blvd in San Francisco and appears to be steering the food quality in a better direction. It wasn't crowded and the restaurant was only half full on a weekend, which made for a calm and comfortable meal, nor it was advertised that the restaurant was under new management. All dim sum is still ordered on the menu versus the carts, the carts are rare in the Bay Area. Staff were attentive and should be for a half empty restaurant, the staff checked on our table's order over their walkie talkie with the kitchen staff just minutes after placing it and all the food arrived quickly within 10 minutes of placing the order. Food quality has clearly improved. The har gow was fresh and the siu mai was actually made in-house, the old management cheated by reheating frozen dim sum and this was the sole reason my family stopped returning. One dish that stood out was the pan fried rice noodle with eggplant and pork jowl. It had a nice bit of wok hei, the eggplant was deep fried, and the dish had a Sichuan spicy kick. The restrooms have been renovated and well maintained, which was a big improvement for those who remember how neglected they used to be. The carpet in the dining room still feels worn and could use a deep clean or replacement. Overall, this visit gave me hope for Asian Pearl. The food was improved, but there's still room for improvement. The menu pricing is competitive with all the Chinese restaurants in Millbrae. What a difference! Change in chef and owners and everything is so much better! The service, the taste and uniqueness of the dishes here has improved astronomically! I had a reservation on a Tuesday and was surprised at how crowded it was at night! The staff were hustling and were quick to get orders in and dishes out. Highlight: Black truffle duck (5/5) earthy, aromatic and succulent duck. Skin is crispy while meat is juicy. A must get dish here. Fried tofu with beef (5/5) the meat was perfectly fried and still retained the tenderness of the meat. The tofu is silky and balanced the seasoned meat really well. Crab (4/5) the garlic scallion sauce was fragrant and paired beautifully with the fresh crab. Crab meat didn't stick to the shell and was very sweet. We stopped by for dinner last night to celebrate Mid-Autumn Moon with our family & we're surprised by the change in management. They're now managed by the same group from Won Kok in SF. The restaurant was much livelier than before, like I've never seen the entire dining area filled like this. Granted most of the patrons were probably there celebrating Mid-Autumn Moon too. Previous management made it really hard for me to any to return for dinner - the reason being that service was always super slow. I felt the previous owners were always worried about taking care of their friends & the bigger parties, so parties of 4 were always neglected. We always ended up sitting around for 2-3 hours. Also just feel like it's a bad look when you're just constantly running around drinking with your patrons while other customers wait around for your service, but I digress. Menu wise it seems very similar to what's offered at The Kitchen. We ordered lobster, golden fried rice with a touch of egg white, pan fried tofu with salted vegetable in Chao Zhao style claypot, stir-fried string beans with pork belly in XO sauce, dried shrimp & clams with hairy melon in broth. Everything tasted pretty good, nothing was overly salty or bland. Some dishes did seem a little more oily than others. I did wake up feeling a little thirty this morning so I'm sure some MSG was added. Overall, we'll definitely be returning again. And would like to come try their dim sum menu as well. read more

I came here for dinner in the private karaoke room. The food was pretty good, I had the Peking duck and tortilla, bone broth soup, roasted pork, fish, two types of fried tofu. The only item that was chewy was some kind beef rib/bone dish, lobster garlic noodle, vegetable soup with vermicelli, red bean bun dessert and sponge cake. Everything was well seasoned and tasty. Some downsides include, glassware with old lipstick stain, small and outdated bathroom. Parking was challenging and I had to find street parking which took awhile. Service was attentive, however, water was not readily refilled. The private room had different song selections in multiple languages and the lighting can be controlled. We love New Asian Pearl. It's under new ownership, with a married couple running the kitchen and front of house. The connected kitchen and dining area create a smooth flow and enhance the experience. This restaurant specializes in authentic Cantonese cuisine, and the staff speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese. (Did you know there are 7-10 dialects in China?) They also speak English, so communication is easy. We typically visit for dinner. It's worth noting that New Asian Pearl is firmly rooted in Cantonese culinary traditions. If you're expecting flavors from other regions of China, you might be disappointed. Dim Sum here also follows the Cantonese style. Each dish has a distinct flavor, which is a real treat. Have you ever been to a Chinese restaurant where everything tastes the same? This is not that kind of place. When a chef lacks experience, they often use the same sauces with slight variations on every dish, making the experience feel repetitive. Context: I came here for lunch with my family and arrived around 10:55am on a Sunday. Seating: When we first arrived there were plenty of open tables and no line. That being said, the staff will ignore you unless you walk up to them and get their attention, so we had to flag down wait staff to get a table. The silver lining is that they did seat us without our entire party being here, which is really nice since most places require the entire party to be here before being seated. Ambiance: Starting around 11:15 (once the restaurant filled up), it had the normal busy and bustling ambiance of your typical dim sum restaurant (minus the carts). Ordering: Ordering is done by marking how many of each dish you wanted off a menu, which was convenient! That being said, it took a long time for everything to come out. We were there for 1.5 hours and dishes were still coming out. We wanted to cancel two of our items since they took too long to come out and we were full. The wait staff only canceled one of them and marked the other as served / received even though we didn't get it. We tried to get them to take it off our bill, but they gave us complimentary orders of sesame balls and char siu bao to make up for it since they said it would be complicated to revise the bill. To be fair our group did order a lot of items. Make sure to double check your bill, especially if you ordered a lot of items or requested to have items removed from your bill if you didn't receive them before getting full. Taro Dumpling - 1/5: It was still cold on the inside and tasted sour, which it shouldn't have. They did try to make it up to us by giving us a complimentary order of pineapple custard buns. Pineapple Custard Buns - 4/5: Taste is pretty good and the had a nice color, but the inside was still doughy. Spicy Pig Ear - 4/5: In this dish, the pig ear pieces are cut in strips rather than thin slices, so the crunchy pieces of cartilage are more noticeable. Overall, the taste is pretty good and has a nice numbing taste / feeling. I do wish the spice / chili was more fragrant though. Shrimp Rice Roll - 5/5: The pieces of shrimp were pretty big and the dish is pretty tasty! It was exactly what we were looking for! Dumpling Items (Siu Mai, Har Gao, Scallop Dumpling, Chiu Chow Dumpling) - 5/5: Absolutely MASSIVE dumplings and all around pretty tasty! Would highly recommend! Chicken Feet - 4/5: These chicken must have been dinosaurs with how big these feet were! The flavor was pretty decent, but the feet themselves were not as soft as we'd like them. Portuguese Egg Tart - 4/5: Flavor was on point, but these were so flaky that they basically disintegrated the moment you picked them up. Egg Yolk Lava Buns - 4/5: Pretty standard, the taste was pretty good, the bun itself was nice an soft. Pork Spare Ribs - 5/5: Fresh out the steamer when it got to our table, tender, and the right amount of spicy. Lobster Yi Mein - 4/5: Tasty lobster and noodles with the right amount of bite / chew! We wish there was more in the dish though. Sesame Balls - 5/5: Tasty, not over cooked, and not too oily! The Peking Duck with black truffle/hoisin sauce is a 'must try'. It takes around 45 minutes to be roasted to your table. The skin is so crispy and yummy. Remember to preorder advance. The charcoal grill tender short ribs with a special sauce is recommended. The waiters/waitress are very friendly, especially the one of the waiter assistance who speaks Mandarin and a little Cantonese was so kind and helpful. We chose this place to hold our reception venue for my mom's funeral. I've never eaten here but my brother recommended this. I was given a banquet menu for 8 dishes for a minimum of 50 people or a minimum of $1500. We were served the following: Yangzhou Fried Rice - Great Scallop & Chive Soup - Bland Shrimp & Scallop in XO Sauce - Good Beef and Broccoli - Delish Buddha's Delight - Decent White Cut Chicken - Looked raw, should have omitted the chicken head. It had too much bones but the sauce made it taste ok. Spareribs & Pineapple - Spareribs also had too much bones. Dessert Soup - I missed this dish because I had to step away from my table. Noticed they didn't serve this at every table. Found out later that some of my guests were declining it because they were too full and had a lot of leftovers. With family dinners, my mom always orders for us especially since she knows exactly what to order. She and her friends frequent restaurants often so I always trust her with ordering, and I'm never disappointed :). One of the male waiters hard sold us on a fish since we wanted a recommendation. He also told us the fish was $28/lb but didn't know what kind of fish it would be. That's totally fine, so we said we'd order that. He then came to show us the fish we'd be getting and we were fine with it. It looked like a red snapper. They printed out our receipt to confirm our order and my mom saw that the fish on our order was $68/lb. We asked the waiter what fish that was because we didn't order it and he said it was the fish he showed us and that it was too late to cancel because they already started preparing it. Obviously, we were shocked to hear this because the fish alone would now cost almost $200... We spoke with the owner (a female) and she basically made it seem like we should've known the price of the fish after they showed it to us and offered no solution to make us feel valued as customers. This was a really disappointing experience. It's less about the fish itself being expensive, but more so that they made my mom feel like she knew what she was ordering, and that they weren't at fault. Our waiter who initially took our order ended up avoiding us the rest of the night. Overall, the food was average. Beef ribs were good but nothing to rave about. I don't live in the area anymore so I wouldn't make a trip up for this place and after the service we received, can't say I'd come back. Some parking, mostly street. They also have dim sum from what I saw. This place is just okay. We go here quite often, but there's nothing to write home about. The best part about Asian Pearl is the service. If you become a regular, they treat you really well. At the very least, you'll get classic Canto banquet food at a very decent price for Millbrae. We came here as a last resort and we were worried because there were only three parties in such a large restaurant (but ok more people started pouring in about 30 min after we got here). Waited for 20 minutes. I watched everyone else's food come out. I asked one of the male servers to follow up on our food. He said, "Ok I'll check." He never returned. I gave him some time. It had been 35 minutes now. I asked again. He said, "Our kitchen is very busy." A female employee took over and suddenly the last two dishes came out. How is it that our order--- three dishes for 3 people--- took SO long to arrive when the table next to us (party of at least 10) got their orders a heck of a lot quicker than we did? They automatically added an 18% service charge to our bill--- just fyi. Keep an eye on your receipt before adding additional. Sad to say we will not return. The service lacks a lot. 1 star - Disappointing and overpriced experience I came here with my family for dinner and unfortunately had a really disappointing experience. I rarely leave negative reviews, but there were three major issues that I just can't overlook: 1. Mushy shrimp with no accountability I ordered the egg yolk shrimp with pumpkin and immediately noticed the shrimp were mushy--not just slightly off, but completely unpleasant in texture. I tried another piece, same issue. I brought it up to the manager, who agreed the shrimp were mushy and took the dish back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, he came back and told us the restaurant uses frozen shrimp so "they're all going to be like that" and they refused to remake the dish. Instead, he told us we shouldn't order anything else if we had enough food. Excuse me? That's not his decision to make. We're the customers--if I want to order more food, that's up to me. The way it was handled felt dismissive and rude, and frankly, it seemed like they were too busy and didn't want to bother cooking another dish. 2. Lobster lo mein - a soggy mess We also ordered the lobster lo mein, and the noodles were a disaster. They were so overcooked that they basically melted in your mouth--no bite, no texture, just soft and soggy. It was very clear the noodles had been boiled too long before being stir-fried. 3. Half a duck for the price of a whole We got the Peking duck with truffle, which was actually quite tasty and had great crispy skin. But let's be honest--it was NOT a whole duck. We've ordered whole duck many times at other restaurants, and what we got here was maybe half a duck. The amount of meat, bones, and skin was nowhere near what a whole duck should be. Charging full price for a partial portion is just dishonest. Overall, the food was below average, overpriced, and handled with very little care or customer service. With so many amazing Asian restaurants in the Bay Area, I won't be coming back to New SF Asian Pearl Peninsula--and I'd recommend others think twice before dining here. read more

Service is excellent for a Chinese restaurant, friendly and attentive. Food comes fast and hot. However, for the price we paid, I was expecting better food with a more professional chef. The food was just average, almost tasted like a line chef's quality. I may come back to try the secret menu on the wall. There were no translations, you just need to "figure it out". read more

I havent been here for a while but heard the food is much better under new ownership and management. It was absolutely incredible! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. The staff was attentive, making sure our tea was always refilled and that we had everything we needed. Every dish was bursting with flavor and made with such care. The har gow were perfectly steamed with a delicate, and the char siu bao (BBQ pork buns) were fluffy with just the right balance of sweet and savory. The siu mai, egg tarts, and crispy shrimp rolls were also standout favorites. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and served piping hot. Will come again read more

3.5 stars. The 4 of us came here for dim sum lunch. We thought the food was very good, even better than the restaurant we where we had dim sum yesterday. There was a dish I didn't care much for, the fried taro ball was bland. We liked the har gow and the siu mai meat filling was flavorful and fresh. The sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves were Ok, I've had better. We really liked the beef bean sprouts chow fun as well as the pan fried taro cubes which were well seasoned. The baked bbq pastry and egg yolk was OK but I wouldn't order again. Staff was very efficient and quick to remove plates and dishes. The restaurant was clean with table cloths. Automatic 15% service charge. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant but we found street parking quite easily. read more

Our big family has been dining at this restaurant for about eight years. The manager here is very friendly, and the seafood is extremely fresh and delicious. Every time we come, we always order the famous Chinese barbecued meats. It's well worth a try! read more

We visited this restaurant with my mom and found the found to be pretty fair in terms of quality and quantity. We especially enjoyed the roasted squab. Similar to other restaurants in the area with dim sum, they offer it during dinner as well which expands the options you can choose. I recommend coming here with a big group since there are big round tables available. read more

Came here for a Celebration of Life after a funeral service and therefore it was not appropriate for me to take my usual food pictures. I had dined at this restaurant years ago when it was owned by another owner. Fast forward I was probably last here 20 yrs ago. Todays food was a set number of dishes and I enjoyed everything that was ordered with the exception of the closing traditional last dish of fried rice which was bland. Truly enjoyed the sautéed lobster, jumbo shrimp with candied walnut pieces which had a light coating of mayonnaise which I prefer, steamed fish which was Catfish, & poached chicken with ginger and garlic dipping sauce just to name a few. Came here on a Monday night for a family dinner. The place was pretty quiet as there was only one other party besides us. Customer service was friendly, place was pretty clean, and the food was what you would expect for your standard family gathering. My favorite of the night was the beef with the black pepper sauce on the side. My grandma's favorite was the pumpkin that came with the crab but that was mostly because that was the only thing her teeth would tolerate. Total came out to $1200 for ~20 people so a bit on the pricey. read more
