I got to the hotel around 3pm and the room still wasn't ready so I came back at 4:30 to check and see if the room was ready and it was. I was told I would be called once the room was ready so just not sure why that did not occur. We made it up to our room where we had a corner suite facing the ocean and pool area. We had a great view from the second floor. The suite had a full kitchen and it's very own electric bbq which suprised us. We took advatange and grilled up some steaks with that amazing view from our balcony. The suite had two bathrooms which was awesome and the suite truly had everything we needed for all 6 of us. The property had an arcade/game room that we took advantage of and it was very cool. They also have a projector and tv area to play any live sports/ movies. Two pools and two jacuzzis on site. We used the jacuzzis and loved using these facilities as well. Parking was free which was suprising considering we are in SoCal. Overall, we were very pleased with house hotel. The hotel can use some updating so just a heads up if your looking for a modern hotel. Overall the facilities and locations provided here were spectacular.

Leslie also informed us of the complimentary bikes to use if we wanted to explore the town and how we were just in time to enjoy the complimentary wine and cheese from 4-5:30 in the common area. We grabbed our free bubbly, the vanilla bath salts for my wife to enjoy later, and proceeded to enjoy the cheese and assorted treats on the outdoor patio overlooking Dana Point. No better way to unwind! Pro tip: NEVER EVER SKIP THE FRESH BAKED COOKIES! The property is the perfect size to remain quaint like a bed and breakfast but big enough that you don't feel obligated to know each person coming and going. I would admit being in our mid 40's, we were on the younger side of guests during our stay, but this was a welcome surprise for us as we were looking for a quiet getaway for the evening for our 9 year wedding anniversary. The room was 212 which is an ADA accessible room but this I believe was provided at the special request of having a bathtub for my wife who values her baths on her getaways! The room faces the parking lot but this is a small sacrifice for what the true payoff was which was the special request... The giant jacuzzi tub which did not disappoint. It was large enough to fit two adults (not that we tried or anything *wink wink). The jets worked great and my wife raved about them. The room came with luxurious robes and slippers and all bath products were either local or unique brand. The room also came with a fireplace that was gas which started with the flip of a light switch. Another beautiful touch. It is always hard to find a bed that is comfortable enough while away from home as we are spoiled by our sleep number at home but this bed did the trick (which most chain or corporate hotels cannot accomplish!). The linens were soft and the room came with extra pillows and blankets on hand without having to ask for more. The complementary breakfast buffet in the morning was not your standard spread. It felt more refined and focused on the details. It was not your scrambled eggs from powder. It was two sunny side up eggs cooked to perfection. It wasn't generic underripe fruit, it was perfectly ripe fruit with an assortment of sides. My wife raved about the yogurt and toppings as did I about the oatmeal and toppings. Overall this could not have been a better short 1 night getaway for my wife and I to enjoy away from the hectic everyday life. It truly felt like we slowed down time and the blue lantern Inn accomplished all we needed in having a successful start to our anniversary celebrations.

There are 2 yelp profiles for this place, assumably because they just updated it about 3 years ago so the profile with lower reviews isn't an accurate depiction of this place. 1. Booking - Easy peasy. I found this place and went to the direct link off yelp to their basic looking web site and entered my card info. No charges or holds as said on Yelp, until the day I checked in. 3 nights for $506.40 - no deposits or holds. Got a confirmation email once I paid when I got there, but a confirmation email once I booked would've been helpful to know that I actually booked it. Got a text reminder the day before and day off asking for my ETA, which was at 21:00. Service was friendly. The reviewer elsewhere on Yelp that commented on the Indian woman's command of the English language is clearly racist, because she's fluent and her accent is nothing short of straight Californian so I was pleased. She also informed us of the wifi info behind our door upon check-in. Would've been nice if they started up the AC or fan before we got there so it wouldn't be so stuffy once we got in. Will update once we check out but wanted to document initial impressions. 2. Room - Basic, clean, tastefully decorated. Updated for sure. Has what you need: mini fridge, glass door standing shower with decent (not great) water pressure and updated system. I liked that the shower head is detachable and is magnetic to reattach for those who don't want to rinse hair but want to wash off from neck down. Dispenser in shower has a decent supply of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Both sides of bed have outlet but only one side has USB ports for charging. Mini fridge, no microwave, metal rack no closet with 2 hangers. We used the rack for holding the pack of bottled waters I brought for the trip. No need to hang anything because we weren't here for any formal event but I can see that as a possible issue. There's a flatscreen TV, though I don't watch TV. My first of 2 gripes here is the lack of towels. You get for the single room 2 bath towels, 4 face towels and 1 hand towel to share. You don't even get your own hand towel I guess. No mat to step out of the shower on, which to me, is a liability for the schmucks who can slip and fall out of the shower. And I'm alluding to my next door neighbors, which I'll get to in a sec. 3. Noise Level - this is where I want to knock another star off but won't because the only way you can control the ilk of clientele is pricing. It's off the street so you can hear cars which isn't a big deal to me but the raspy bitch (henceforth "RB" for short) next door is a downer. 4:30AM and I hear a voice in the distance say she's "going to call the sheriff." Then I hear a voice so close she could be outside my room respond, "Go ahead, call the sheriff", as she went on her hoarse, three-minute phallic, expletive laden diatribe. Initially I thought she was in a drunken stupor as to be expected at 4:30AM, but soon realized her annunciation of every syllable with such lucid clarity was indeed that of someone straight cray, which to me, is far scarier. Not sure if she is in the same room as the 2 guys with heavy southern accents but wouldn't be surprised. I turned to the bf, apologizing for booking a room with the RB next door. Bless him, he pats my hand and gently responds with loving words, "it's okay, there will always be a raspy bitch." I'll see if I can get another towel later for the shower floor but so far, not bad if you don't care to shell out $$$ for the ritz if your goal is to explore the area and not be in your room for anything more than sleep.

It had a very stylish decor where a nice surfer guy and his golden retriever were there to welcome us. He was super friendly and so was the dog! He took us to our "deluxe" room with a living room and beadroom. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had done a really good job at styling the little bungalow rooms. It felt very comfortable and clean. The location is great. The rooms have only one wall a/c unit so the bedroom didn't get as much airflow as I would have liked, but the living room stayed very cool. The bathroom is small and has a vintage vibe. There are little areas that aren't perfect, paint from the base boards that got on the wood flooring, grout issues in the bathroom but to me it just gave the appearance that the owners probably did the work themselves. It's not corporate and flawless, it's a homey little surfers shack. They even have surf boards you can use. This isn't a five star hotel, but for what it is we were very happy. I was very impressed by the ambiance of this hotel! It's gorgeous! It's warm, tropical and beachy. Very unlike a chain hotel. There were a lot of beautiful details that made the hotel unique. The bed was very comfortable too. Our room had direct access to the pool and that was a nice feature. Other reviews mention the high cost, I agree, it was costly with additional fees. However it's not an economy hotel. It's directly on the beach and I expected to pay a premium rate because of that. A welcome note and fruit were left in the room upon arrival. The staff were great, Sam checked us in and he was very sweet. There was another young man with long hair that was also very kind (I didn't get his name, he gave great direction on some local shopping). Maria made an amazing champagne spritz and she was also very hospitable. Would stay at Casa Loma again 100%. It was a very pleasant experience!
