Kevin and I recently stopped at Nonna's Empanadas at the Americana at Brand, and it was absolutely amazing. The empanada was warm, crunchy on the outside, and packed full of flavorful filling very generous and satisfying. The Carne Asada not bad, Pepperoni and Cheese reminded me of a hot pocket and the chicken well i wasnt happy with that one seemed to soggy for my taste. There are many more fillings i think 19 in total, but for 4 I was already at $22.00 before tax so i stopped my taste testing...A bit pricey for my taste when it comes to empanadas but hey to habe a space at the he Americana probably isn't cheap. We stopped by the Americana for some Christmas festivities and started off our journey with some Nonna's Empanadas. You can't miss it, because there's proabably a line for it and you'll see the glass display of all of their empanadas. They have both sweet and savory ones which is great because most of the time, I want a savory empanada. Around 5pm on a Saturday evening, they still had a majority of flavors left. We got the Samosa Beef and the Chicken Mushroom & Cheese and both were great. The empanadas were loaded with filling which was nice because some of the emapanads i've tried were mostly dough. Saw the stand while walking in to Din tai Fung and made a note to come back. Asked when they closed and she said 8pm. Came back after dinner and ordered 5 empanadas. Disappointed that they ran out of chicken and mushroom but got the spinach and cheese, chicken, beef, carne asada and Cuban. Was ready quickly and costs like $35. Brought them home for me and my hubby. Ate the Cuban the next day, hubby had the carne asada. Very yummy. Had the spinach the next day and enjoyed that one as well. Look, I'm not the authority on empanadas by any stretch of the imagination. I rarely if ever have them but I've had Nonna's twice lately - once from Ubatuba Studio City and most recently at their little outpost at the Americana. These are absolutely scrumptious!!! They have SO many options, sweet and savory and while I'm most always a sweet person vs savory - I adore the mushroom option here. It is soooo good! I highly recommend Nonna's empananadas. The more I think about it the more I think these are the perfect item to bring to a pot luck or gathering. I'd say they are more or less single serve and you'd need to cut them to share but bringing a dozen or two if needed would be so nice. Perfect little snack to pick up while shopping in the area. Not only is this level of empanada dry on the edges and partially flavorless on the Carnitas. But the gentleman that is here on June 6, 2024 at 5:30 PM is literally smoking his vape and has it on work surface areas as well as painting and eating food right in the window. And then when we order our empanadas, he doesn't even put on gloves. Nor did he even wash his hands. And I had to ask him why he had a vape on a work surface area in a kitchen where food is being served as well as paints, and he didn't wash his hands before handling my empanadas that we pay so much for. Then he hands us empanadas that are broken and busted open. We are up for two combos at the price that is posted. I hope that the management reads this and reaches out to me. I wish I would have taken a pic of the inside of each, but I was starving and my 5 yr old niece ate all of the mushroom one. haha! Empanadas are filled completely which is nice. No room for air like you might find in some. The mushroom one was our favorite. I ordered the jalapeno beef and it was good but really oily. The guava empanada was a nice ending but definitely a whole lot of guava. I wished it tasted more like a guava cheese roll from Portos. I figured this location couldn't be different from the one I usually go to, but boy was I wrong. You ever get the feeling, like physically, the mere presence of you at a counter irritates the sales clerk? That's what this woman made me feel like. Though I love meat, I also love to try vegetarian dishes as comparisons, I must say how the Beyond veggie empanada almost taste like beef! My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick bite around the plaza. We first decided to get something from Potato Corner but it was closed, BUT then... I detected an intoxicating smell of delicious empanadas so I COULDN'T RESIST! Upon walking towards the shop, the first thing I noticed was the display of neatly stacked empanadas, they specify every ingredient in it which I thought was awesome. They have an awful lot of different flavors that I had a really hard time choosing! I ultimately went for their chicken Alfredo and chicken jalapeño while my bf got their Philly cheesesteak and salsa verde chicken. The ones that we liked most was Philly cheesesteak and chicken Alfredo coming in second. I do have to say that the chicken was very dry :( and both the salsa verde and chicken jalapeño ones weren't too good flavor wise. I grabbed a few empanadas from the location at Americana. I opted for the mushroom, the cheese & tomato and the spinach & cheese. All three were tasty. And it was maybe only 2 minutes from the time I ordered until they were handed to me. All three were packed a little too compactly in a small cardboard box so by the time I got home, they were a bit smashed. But flavour is good. Someone complained that they were frozen and reheated...obviously a small stand like this won't be baking them fresh?! Someone else complained about the price. They're $5.25 each and quite filling. I find it odd that someone would be $7 for a Starbucks coffee yet complain about $5.25 for a tasty and filling empanada. ‍ I'd definitely get some again when in the area and I'm looking for something quick and easy. First to review!!! Exciting new stand to come to the Americana at Brand! It's a chain well known for their empanadas and they have quite the assortment. The price is on point with all of them just under $5. The stand is located right at the main entrance near Frida. I ordered the carne asada one with a side of spicy chimichurri sauce. The flavor was pretty good! I enjoyed the avocado added in. I almost felt like I didn't need the chimichurri but had it just to try it. Not really spicy but it added that oily flavorful chimichurri taste that I love. Looking forward to coming back and trying other flavors. Picked up some empanadas from here since we were visiting the area. Each empanada was about $5.50. We ordered a few of the flavors: chicken, mac & cheese, pepperoni, carnitas, and beef. We only enjoyed the non-traditional flavors which were pepperoni and mac & cheese. As for the carnitas, beef, and chicken..skip them. The chicken empanada was the worst. The spice had a really bad aftertaste. The carnitas was dry and the beef was very underwhelming. We should have known when there were no customers at this empanada stand. There seems to be a lot of confusion of Nonna's Empanadas reviews since they have multiple locations, but this review is specifically for the Farmer's Market location on W. 3rd St. I was so excited to see Nonna's Empanadas on the map when we visited both the Grove and the Farmer's Market! I had never heard of Nonna's and was so happy, as I had been craving empanadas recently! When we arrived around 3PM, there were still lots of options, but you could definitely see that some, like the beef were sold out. We ended up getting one corn and one carnitas empanada and the total came out to about $12. Excited to dig in, we sat down at their bar style seating located right next to the cash register. As much as we enjoyed our empanadas, it was a sad realization to know that they were really just frozen and then reheated for this location. Most of the pastry was crispy but some had gotten soggy from the fillings. If you're in the farmer's market area looking for a quick on-the-go bite, this is definitely the place, just know that it might not be as fresh as you may expect. read more

This place is located right across from the Nike store in the Americana in a stand alone food cart. I had Nonna's empanadas a while ago at their other L.A. location and thought they were good so when I saw it at the Americana I had to stop by. My kid loves empanadas so I stocked up and got a bunch of the beef ones. The service left something to be desired. Honestly, it seemed like a couple of teenagers that although were nice, didn't exactly take pride in their job. My kid is a connoisseur so I trust his opinion. He said they were flavorless and dry. I've heard about these empanadas as they are really popular especially the store in West LA on 3rd street so I really wanted to try them out! I got their most popular carne asada and samosa beef. The carne asada one was really flavorful and was seasoned well while the samosa beef was just ok. It wasn't as flavorful and just tasted like bland beef compared to the carne asada which I recommend to try! It was a delicious snack but for the price, I don't know how worth it was. This review is for the Nonna's location at The Americana on Brand (next to potato corner & Frida's). It's a hut like with a couple of tables outside so perfect for a grab an empanada and go walking around the mall if you will. I first tried these empanadas at the uba tuba location on K-town and let me tell you that Nonna is doing a great job 'cause these empanadas are delicious and very filling. Also very pricey but they're worth it imo. Some of my favorites are Philly cheese steak, carne asada, dulce de leche; and I recently had the cheeseburger one. All of them worth trying for sure! The only reason why I deducted one star from my review is that some of the people working here are very tactless, like if you're asking them a question about a certain empanada they hurry you up like you're bothering them or something. So read the ingredients on display before ordering and you'll be fine lol. No wonder I always order the same flavors! I purchased a box of the empanadas. When I was attempting to eat a carne asada one, I noticed a tiny bit of bone when biting down. In the next bite a large chuck of bone was discovered. There are so many different fillings and options to choose from, you really can have a whole meal there, or be a return customer. They have everything from meat to veggies, to sweet dessert fillings. So far I have tried beyond meat, cheesy scramble, and the cheeseburger. Each one was delicious! They really pack in the fillings and the shell is just what you want.
