Made the drive out to Mariscos Za Za Za and it was worth it. It's a bit far from me, but the outdoor seating has such a great vibe that you end up wanting to hang out for a while. The food was really good, everything tasted fresh and flavorful. If you're looking for a spot with good energy, solid seafood, and a relaxed atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

What a great spot! The outdoor seating area is so cute and creates the perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy a meal. We ordered the fish tacos, shrimp tacos, and quesadillas, and everything was delicious. The cocktails were refreshing, and the music made the experience even more enjoyable. Great food, fun vibes, and excellent ambiance. We highly recommend checking this place out!

If you like Mexican seafood, this place is calling your name. I was searching for random spots to eat with a friend and we decided on this place because ceviches/tostadas looked so legit. Its in the "backyard" of another restaurant so the entrance is this dirt pathway. You order at the window, pay, and they'll bring your food out. Seating is outdoors in the open. Theres some trees and shade in certain areas but on a sunny day it'll still get hot. We ordered (if I'm not remembering incorrectly): el aguachile hulk, tostada bonito, el coctelito, una costra por favor. Everything was delicious and for the most part, very fresh tasting as well. The scallops that that "fizzy taste" which I wasn't a fan of. All the dishes very flavorful. I'd say my favorite was the aquachile. Tostadas are mostly small and palm sized, the other dishes are shareable. I'd go back again. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was how hot it was outside. It would be nice to have cooling fans and something to deter the flies. Flies and fresh seafood really don't mix. We weren't allowed to sit inside the restaurant during lunch despite there being a bunch of open tables so that was interesting (not sure if its because its separately owned).

NOTE: Dined in on 8/9/25. Check hours, as they're very limited. That's why it took so long for me to get around to trying it! Frogtown is one of my favorite parts of the city, even though I tend to stray away from the river path itself since I've been absolutely demolished by mosquitoes there in the past. And despite the name, I don't think there are too many frogs left there, but that's another story for another day! Mariscos Za Za Za is in Loreto's backyard, and both restaurants are part of the same restaurant group that brought us LA Cha Cha Cha (sadly closing soon). Now, I know that some people view LA Cha Cha Cha as a spot that's more about the vibes than the kinda pricey food, but I think that Mariscos Za Za Za is more than reasonably priced for the quality of seafood you're getting! Plus it's in a shady backyard with cute tables and a feeling as if you went to someone's semi-gentrified backyard party. You order up front and then find yourself a seat. Self-serve water, utensils, and salsa, so pretty simple. The food is beautifully plated and comes out as it's ready. Here's a breakdown: Tostada de camaron - Forgot to take a photo of this but it's pretty huge! Mix of cooked and raw shrimp, pineapple, agua chile, avocado, red onion, cucumber, and cilantro. They load up the avocado here! The raw shrimp was my favorite part, as it was slightly creamy and had that delectable slightly chewy, but not too chewy texture. The pineapple added just a tiny hint of sweetness to balance out the slight heat and moderate acidity from the agua chile. There's a tostada at the bottom that will get soggy, but there's also another one on top that stays crunchy, so you and your dining companions can enjoy the best of both worlds! Tostada Bonito - One of my favorite tostadas ever! Baja yellowtail, tobiko mayo, bonito, capers, radish. Strong umami flavors from the tobiko mayo and bonito flakes on there, capers to help provide some acidity, and yet all of those elements don't take away from the flavor of the actual fish! Delicate chew to the baja yellowtail, and just such a delightful mash of textures and flavors. El Coctelito Acapulco - This is huge! Shrimp, Mayan octopus, bay scallop, cucumber, tomato, and onion. Tomato flavor is not overwhelming and allows you to enjoy each element of the seafood. Octopus was tender, raw scallops were great, and the shrimp was cooked. It's served with crackers on the side, which were fine. But honestly, you could eat it without the crackers and it'd still be tasty! but it's so big that I don't know if I'd order it again. Probably the item we liked the least out of everything, but it was still tasty! Las Flautas Ahogadas - Shrimp, sea bass (almost like shredded type of texture), avocado, and Mexican Crema. It's on a bed of mild roasted tomato salsa and wow, such a good combo. It's a little on the drier side, but you get to enjoy the crisp of the outside of the fish/shrimp, that might be deep fried a bit in a batter? Then you get the crema, avocado, and salsa involved... that's when it becomes a party. I hope this spot is able to thrive! It's been open for a couple of years and I hardly see anyone writing about it. Go and support if you can! It's right up there with Holbox in terms of Mexican seafood spots.

    The updated DineLA menu

I wanted to try Mariscos Za Za Za during DineLA. Their $25 lunch menu looked like a good deal, and I was intrigued by the Quesabirria del Mar option for the hot dish. Turns out, even though it was included on the DineLA sample menu, the menu at the restaurant has been updated specifically to remove that as a choice. I ended up going with the other (now only) taco option, El Classico Taco de Fish. I thought this was a solid if fairly conventional fish taco, and works fine as part of the DineLA set menu. If I had paid $9 a la carte, I would have expected more; either two tacos per order, or at least a better quality fish than tilapia. Similar story with the agua fresca. A nice inclusion with the set, but otherwise you're paying most of a Hamilton for a glass that's majority ice and seltzer. First couple sips were delicious before the ice started melting. The real winner turned out to be El Aguachile Hulk. Super bright and tangy with the right amount of kick, and plenty of fresh raw shrimp. Enough to load up two tostadas and then some, you can easily share this dish, but I was happy to have it myself down to the last drop. The LA churros were cute and a fun novelty, but probably play better with tourists than Frogtown locals. The shape means they cook a little unevenly in spots, but nothing too bad. 4 stars is reflective of the DineLA price. If I had paid closer to the $40 that these same items would have totaled on the regular menu, I'd probably drop it down to three. Hopefully they return to DineLA in the future, with an accurate online menu next time too. One other thing, they have very limited hours. Weekdays your only options are Thursday and Friday from 12-3:30. This also corresponds neatly with the neighborhood street cleaning schedule, Thursdays and Fridays from 12-2, meaning unless you want a late lunch or can go on a weekend, finding nearby street parking is going to be a unique challenge.

What is the best thing about a meal at a restaurant that just rocks your world: The food must have been amazing The restaurant itself must have been unique and special and You need a chisel to knock the smile off your face What is the worst thing about a restaurant meal that just rocks your world: Whatever the food you just had, cannot be duplicated anywhere else and that fact alone, makes any other restaurant making similar food, not going to able to cut the mustard! There in lies my problem with Mariscos Za Za Za The regional Mexican food we had here for lunch today was so good, it has completely "Jacked" me. For instance, the El Gran Burrito Camaron I ordered here was positively the best burrito I've ever had. How can I go back to Chicago, go to my #1 burrito place and not compare with Za Za - that's an impossible task! That goes for the our Las Fluatas Ahogadas and our Tostadas Cameron! This place is so good, any other Mexican food put in front of me, I'm afraid to say, could not live up to what I just consumed. Everything about Za Za was sensational, except..............on this drizzly, overcast, cold (58°) and gloomy day we were forced to sit outside for no other reason than, there was no other reason? Sure, they brought out a heat lamp, but eating this magnificent food wearing a park - PLEASE! And, with all of that shivering and hand rubbing, I'm still giving Za Za a Five Star review? Yea, it was just that good.

Everything we had was made very very well. Was actually impressed! Menu is small and portions are smaller too but still shareable. The vibes are so cute for a little out door lunch too. Def stop by here for a small lunch. It's in the same building as Loreto since it's the same restaurant but entrance on the other side of the building. They have a valet parking lot for $15.

    Entrance is through this corridor

Finally tried Mariscos za za za and it did not disappoint. The seafood was fresh, the seating area is open and relaxing.

Coming here felt like I was somewhere in Mexico enjoying some good mariscos and if I was on vacation. Although I will say it was a little hard to find as there was no sign or anything located in the front, but the valet parking attendant directed us in the correct direction. As we walked up to the building, we saw there was a line at a window to order so we knew we were in the right place. We order your food and drink drinks first and they give you a number which you then take to the table and they bring you your food there. We happen to come during dine LA week and for $25 we got a little bit of everything. My personal favorites were the Aguachiles, flautas, and the LA churro dessert. We also got one of the lime, jalapeño drinks without alcohol and it was super delicious. Their playlist made everything even better as it sounded like they were playing directly from my Spotify. Overall, I really liked the ambience and the food was delicious as well. Next time I plan on trying some of their alcoholic drinks.

    Thoughtful gestures

Im being biased because I love walking to this place!! Perfect spot for lunch whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying some solo time. The service is always great, and the music es la onda, especially when the Mexican playlist is on. It really sets the mood. I'm obsessed with the Aguachile Hulk it's a must if you love the fire!! The tostada de camarón is another favorite, with the perfect balance of raw and cooked shrimp. The tostada bonito is delicious too, though I always feel like it needs a little extra salsa verde (just my preference). Their salsa negra is SO good! pairs perfectly with the aguachile. The space has a beautiful, backyard desert-like vibe with super cute umbrellas, making it feel relaxed but still aesthetic. The michelada is perfect for a hot day or as a cruda cure, and the Semi Tropic Passion mezcal drink is easily my favorite.

    Churros

This review is mostly to praise the Todos Santos Milk Punch and to encourage people to order it so it will stay on the menu! It's my new favorite cocktail and so uniquely delicious. Tried it at Loreto and returned a week later to enjoy it during the day at Za Za Za. Ambience, service and food are great as well.

Neighborhood gem of a Mexican restaurant that specializes in...you probably guessed it: mariscos or seafood. This place is almost hidden - honestly, if I didn't just blindly follow the location listed and looked around, I may have just missed it if driving by. Came there during lunch with a good friend so not sure if service is different at different times, but it's more of a fast casual model where you order from the counter/ window and have a seat. The place was chill with a relaxed, beautiful outdoor seating area in the back. There is also seating inside, but we took advantage of the great weather. The food here is awesome and well presented. I really enjoyed everything we ordered. And my buddy and I wanted to try as much as possible so we just ordered a bunch and shared including: Los Tostilocos, Las Flautas Ahogadas, Mi Quesabirria Del Mar, and Tostada de camaron. The seafood was just so fresh and tasty. The texture was crisp where it needed to be crisp and there was a good amount of acidity. I really enjoyed the experience here and definitely a place I would love to revisit often.

    Delicious seafood. Plenty of options.

I came by on a rainy Saturday to grab some food to go and was actually the only customer at the time. I ordered the aguachiles, mango shrimp ceviche, two shrimp tacos, and one fried fish taco. The fried fish taco was a bit over battered and tasted overcooked. Everything was edible, but it didn't give me that "I want to come back" feeling. I mainly came for the ceviche and aguachiles and those were the most disappointing parts of the meal. Maybe I just didn't order the right items, but this visit didn't really win me over.

Dried bread and dipping sauces were brought while we perused the menu. Our food came quick. First was the chicken soup we ordered as an appetizer. It was delicious! Warning - the red salsa side dish is super hot. We tested it first, added a small splash, and loved it. Next was a sliced beef and marinated onion sandwich. It was well filled and really tasty, our favorite of the night. The green salsa that comes with it is a perfect compliment - savory and spicy like a molé, but not too hot. We will order this again. Then came the beef heart, not a dish for everyone, but a personal favorite. Seasoned with a great dry rub and cooked on wood skewers, it was on par with the best yakitori I have ever had. What made it even better, however, were the sides. The hominy was perfectly chewy and seasoned. Mixed with the green salad, the potato chunks, and some of the green and white dipping sauces, well, it was an excellent compliment to the dense beefiness of the roasted heart chunks. OTOH, the salsa that comes with the beef heart, while full of chopped scallions and such, was far too sour for my taste. It was like pure lime juice. I tasted it and set it aside, only adding a few bits into my mix of sides. The final nice touch was the price. Total for three dishes was $40 before tax and tip. We will be back.
