A couple weeks ago on a FRIDAY...almost at 5pm, my husband and I closed the door, and realized, we both didn't have the key. I may or may not have flipped out. I HATE paying for things that can be avoided, but you know, this is life. So, thank the Lord I had my cell phone and was able to look up places! I called another place...somewhere in Wicker Park but no one responded, and so thankfully Nonstop Locksmith responded at my first call, and literally within 10-15 minutes Chris showed up. Now, I will say that apparently our lock was VERY stubborn, and Chris couldn't just pry it open, he had to basically use the big guns (aka HUGE drill) to drill through the ENTIRE lock. So to get in our house, it took him awhile, but he said this was the 2nd hardest lock he ever had to get through. He was super social and explained everything he was doing, as well, we were just sitting on the steps seeing what he was doing. Good job Chris. Everything went smoothly, except for the fact that he lost the check we wrote. BUT, it was really easy in getting it to him and he gave us a coupon for a discount next time if we ever had any issues again (REALLY HOPE this doesn't happen!), and he was very apologetic about it and worked around our schedule. The price I think was fair even though of course, you never want to pay for getting locked out of your house...:) read more

It was a grey cold Saturday and I dreaded heading out to get keys made. I imagined something like many of my key-making experiences: a huge line at some crap hardware store and then either the guy working tells you he can't make keys at that moment and you'll have to wait more (or flat out come back another day) or the one guy who is qualified to use the key machine is busy checking to see if they have five different measurements of screws along with a few different sizes of toilet plunger and he'll be with you in a moment (read 30 more minutes). After said employee is ready to help you, they take about 10 minutes running the machine and you swear that they're doing this key thing freehand before you receive your new keys and again have to wait in line to actually pay for them because the key maker is in the back and the cash registers are in the front. Given this, I stopped and got some coffee, got in the car and prepared for a lengthy wait. I was driving around, saw this place, and immediately pulled over. Based on the hours posted on the door, I pretty much was coming in after closing but some guys had just walked out sans employee waiting to lock to door, so I walked in. The experience I received was as keymaking should be: the guy at the counter was super nice, worked at a pace of about a key per minute, offered to redo them all after I asked for the last one to be done on a design key (went with teddy bears, gotta keep 'em guessing what it might unlock), and even was willing to chat about a problem I'd had with a broken key. On top of that the keys were pretty damn cheap and the whole experience took about 5 minutes. My coffee was still too hot to drink by the time I got done here. I sent a Yelp message this weekend about getting a quote. The door to our garage would not close - it just springs back out and even when we hold it closed we cannot get the deadbolt or knob lock to latch. If/when we can get a key in it hurts like hell to try to turn and then we can barely get it back out. I heard from a company rep at 7am Monday morning. I wrote back and then someone called to talk through the issues and he said they had availability today (TODAY!) between 10-12. To my surprise, a very skilled gentleman, Brandon, came out. We talked through options and while I thought I may need to replace everything, he let me know that the keys I currently have should work as long as the door and locks are aligned. In just a short time he fixed everything! My keys work like a charm (who knew) and the price was very reasonable. He gave me additional tips when explaining everything which I also thought was great. Additionally, he offered recommendations for security installations on our front gate. We just moved into a new SF home in the city. We have two gates in front and while there are locks on each, there aren't metal pieces installed to prevent someone from putting their arm in and unlocking the gate. He gave a few options including some cost effective technology to view visitors and "buzz" them in as well as a mechanical key pad option. Brandon was very thoughtful and skilled. We are definitely considering having him come back to install the security recommendations. My experience was wonderful and I felt like I received great service from a skilled tech. Hired this company (also called Chicago Intercom) to replace an old intercom/buzzer system in our 3 unit condo building. We needed the outside cameras/buzzers and the internal intercoms to be able to see who is ringing you outside. Right after I met the estimator, Nick, I knew this company was very capable. His review of our existing system was thorough, and the new system is the perfect replacement. We ended up having some wiring issues that Nick & his brother Joe were able to diligently troubleshoot to get our intercoms working. These guys were amazing. I had a dead bolt that had fallen out of position on my back door, and they came and fixed it within 24 hours of my call. While they were here, they also showed me that the bottom door handle was basically not even screwed into the door, so they fixed that, too. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. I used Non-Stop Locksmith a few months ago but only feel comfortable posting this review now that I've moved from the address they have on file. Non-Stop installed a number of security items in my home, and not for cheap. Total business was over $2500, which is decent for a small Chicago apartment. I was incentivized to post a yelp review to receive a small discount on additional equipment needed after they were at my property installing the new security measures. I thought, sure why not write a review for a free $50 installation fee of an $80 doorknob that 'broke' while the company was onsite. Had I known what was to come of this I would have just paid for the installation which was only 2% of the total cost! I gave what I felt was an decent review for an average service - 3 Stars with a comment that I would "definitely use them again". I received a follow-up email and phone call from the owner who inquired how they may receive a 5 Star rating. I told the owner, Shimon, that a 3 Star was deserving because while I was happy with the new security items I found some property defacement on my hallway walls after his technician left. I narrowed it down to the technician because we recently had our hallways painted and the technician was not happy that I negotiated a discount. Perhaps he works on commission; I don't know. Any savvy business person knows negotiation is the first element to business. When the tone of the call quickly moved to intense and demanding, I told him that I did not feel comfortable talking about it any further and wanted to get off the phone. He apologized for bothering me but still continued to strong-arm me in to updating the review to 5 Star. We 'negotiated' that I'd remove the review rather than update it. Funny how his negotiating tactics are acceptable in this situation, but mine to receive pennies of a discount is inappropriate. I agreed to remove the review because I was scared of further backlash from a company who knew my name, address and specialized in home security. I felt very threatened throughout my contact with this company. I would avoid them if possible! read more

So here is my experience: I live in a 3 flat condo in Humboldt Park. We called Nonstop to fix some problems we were having. We asked them to fix the following: - fix our gate to ensure that it would lock - fix the spring on the gate to make sure in no longer slammed - fix the intercom system at the gate and front door and in individual units Nonstop gave us a quote of something north of $1,000. We agreed and they began to work on the projects sporadically for almost a year. First, was the gate's spring. They replaced the spring which lasted for about 2 weeks before it broke eventually they replaced the spring to where it still works today. This unfortunately, is the end of anything remotely positive I have to say about this company. As work continued the bills for labor and parts continued, which was completely NOT discussed. Next, they attempted to fix the intercom system on several different visits. They were never able to fix the intercom system for the first floor unit and it never worked for the front door. All the while more bills came in, $380 here, $180 there. As you can imagine our frustration began to build, but we continued to work with the company and hoped we might get what we were paying for. They explained that they couldn't complete the intercom system to our original request, because of wiring problems. So they began to work on the lock on the front gate. An agreement was signed stating that if the gate lock broke within a year we would be refunded the additional $354 we paid. It broke and we have not received the $354. At this time I posted a YELP review, as you can imagine, it wasn't positive. Nonstop, quickly responded after the post. They agreed to refund us the $380 for one of their visits if I removed the post, calling it "slander" (JOKE) and signed an agreement. In the meantime, our intercom system started making a loud buzzing noise on the sidewalk and inside each our condo units. It was so annoying that each of our units pulled the intercom boxes right off the wall after Nonstop refused to work with us anymore. In fact, they didn't just refuse to fix their mistakes they hired a lawyer to correspond with us. After I emailed this lawyer, they suggested a refund of $354 if the issue would be dropped. I agreed trying to move on despite the fact that we have spent over $1,000 and have been left with more problems then before we even called this company. Despite, my efforts to move, now Nonstop refuses to refund the $354 or respond. I wish you could give 0 out 5 stars. My advice - DON'T EVEN CONSIDER HIRING THIS COMPANY! read more

This company came out in Aug and replaced an outdoor knob and mechanism. Everyone I dealt with on the phone and in person were very professional and pleasant to work with and they did a nice job. This place is a ripoff. I locked my Keys in my car and the person on the phone said it would be about 35$. Guy gets here and charges me 150$ and says that 35$ is the "starting price", a nice little detail that the person I spoke to on the phone did not mention. THAT IS QUITE A DIFFERENCE.
