Went here for the first time on Wednesday and I was very surprised by how empty it was! There were maybe one or two people who were sitting at different times and a few who came in for "to go" orders. But there should have been a line out the door! One bite of the spinach ravioli will remove any doubts about the unassuming nature of this charming noodle spot. I was transported to Italy. The cup of tiramisu was also excellent, and it being in a cup didn't change my expectations at all. The server I interacted with was friendly and attentive, despite it being less of a formal restaurant experience. This place is beyond worthy of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Take note, Food Network!

Wow, talk about an experience! My partner and I were craving something hearty and healthy (or as healthy as possible) when we found this spot online. We quickly made our way over and were surprised by what seemed to be a restaurant with a lovely dining area and wide array of options to pick from. Immediately walking in it was apparent this place is not only amazing at the restaurant but also quite yummy to take home as the chair for to go orders was filled. Thankfully, the amazing staff was able to support us and our needs once we were done gazing over the menu. The team was VERY friendly and VERY attentive, which I find EXTREMELY difficult to find these days, so huge kudos to this team. The food itself was absolutely phenomenal, especially for the price. We had their pasta dish which contained some shrimp and fettuccine in a lemon citrus sauce that just made our mouths burst of happiness. The pasta salads were also far more yummy than I anticipated as the flavor of the dressing was hit with spices rather than dull and boring. I'll certainly suggest this place to friends and family. And I definitely see myself coming back, especially for the serving sizes, value, flavors and amazing staff! Thanks!

Mole pasta is a fantastic option and a customer favorite. Spaghetti and meatballs have one of the best tasting IN HOUSE MADE MARINARA Sauce. Service is always fantastic, the staff are very welcoming and make you feel at home. The ambiance is pleasant, that of a small mom & pop shop.

Had a cozy comfort food meal here with a friend. It's unfussy pasta, crisp and fresh salad, and a long list of homemade desserts that come in large portions for incredible value. Entree prices hovered right between $10-$13! I ordered: - Seafood (salmon, scallop, shrimp) Linguine Provencal $12.50 - I asked for Spicy level 4 - had just a slight kick that I enjoyed - Cheesy Bread $3.50 that comes with 4 pieces (you can get a marinara dipping sauce for $0.75) - My friend split her Caesar salad with me $9.95 I would definitely order it all again! It felt like a home cooked meal in the best way, and the service was friendly but not overbearing. I would love to leave room for a dessert next time. I used to pass by Noodles all the time, though it's very nondescript now having tried the pasta, I wish I had gone more frequently when I lived a few minutes away.

This place is delicious!! You can see in this picture I got the chicken Alfredo fettuccine with the yummy garlic cheesy bread. The marinara sauce is sold separately. The noodles are cooked perfectly. It's not overcooked or undercooked. The chicken had a lot of flavor in it. Great job. The service is great and friendly here. There's plenty of seats inside or you can always take it to go. The menu is just straight forward. This will definitely be a go to spot whenever I go back to Oregon. It's a great value for your bucks. This place looks like a hole in a wall but it's great!

We came here randomly for dinner after yelping what to eat. It's a really cute Italian restaurant. We ordered the Cajun Shrimp with Penne, Garlic Shrimp Fettuccini, and the tossed green salad. Both pastas were pretty good and the food came out pretty fast. It's the perfect place to come if you are craving pasta and want a good comfort meal.

This place has been opened for so long but it is a bit far from me so I never made it over here until now! Glad I did and I plan to drop by more often! We did take out and when I arrived I just waited for a few minutes and they finished making it earlier than planned. No one ate indoors but they kept having take out orders! 1. Chicken piccata with angel hair. My dad had this one and he said it was very good. He added ** spicy and he said it was very mild haha. He wished he changed the pasta as it all clumped together when it got home but angel hair naturally does that when it gets cold and it depends on the sauce. Though it was chicken breast, he said it was on the tender side. $10.50 2. Mom and I got the same thing so 2 orders of Seafood Linguini Provencal. There were salmon cubes, baby scallops (very tiny) and a few pieces of shrimp. It was in a creamy tomato sauce with white wine and herbs. We opt out of the cheese. It had a good amount of salmon and overall not too dry. Though the baby scallops were hard to scout, they were very nice, not overcooked, not mush or hard. Shrimp were also nicely cooked. After eating it though you do get a bit thirsty. This was filling as it had cream but not as full or dense as cream or cheese-based sauces, I think. $11.25. Very reasonable portion for the price and there are lots of varieties. I look forward in trying their other pastas, too!

Cajun shrimp Penne & cheesy garlic bread! Yumm!

How much indoor seating is there? Workable for a party of 13?

Our dining room is quite small but if you arrive before 5:30 or so it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks

While the physical footprint appeared somewhat more intimate than I had initially envisioned from the street, the sheer caliber of the culinary experience left me thoroughly satisfied. The venue offers the utmost versatility, beautifully accommodating guests for both delightful alfresco dining and a highly sophisticated indoor experience. Upon crossing the threshold, one is immediately greeted by a marvelous, curated display of artisanal cheeses and traditional imported provisions. It lends an unmistakable air of true authenticity, instantly evoking the spirit of a genuine European establishment. The space features a beautifully structured small bar, complemented by the comforting warmth radiating from the kitchen. Admittedly, the sheer volume of displayed specialty items felt a touch overwhelming to my eye at first glance, but the rustic charm of the environment quickly won me over. For my refreshment, I requested an Orange Creme Soda a delightfully crisp choice. For the dinner courses, I selected a selection of fine cheeses followed by the Fusilli Alla Vodka. The culinary execution was an absolute masterpiece. When the entrées were presented to the table, the entire atmosphere shifted, evoking the deeply comforting, elegant essence of a private estate. The flavors were utterly flawless, rich, and perfectly composed. This delightful find has completely captured my favor. The seamless combination of authentic flavor and nostalgic warmth was an absolute treat, and I shall most certainly be returning for future evening meals

I've worked my way through a good portion of the menu, and while the chicken parm wasn't my favorite, literally every pasta dish I've had has been excellent. The penne cotta? Wow. The wild mushroom ragu is rich. My personal favorite is the squid ink pasta with scallops - I'd order it again in a heartbeat. Don't skip the focaccia. The bread with the olive oil is simple but somehow unforgettable. The cocktails are consistently great, the atmosphere feels special without being stuffy, and it's perfect for a date night, anniversary dinner, or catching up with friends over a long day. Portland has a lot of Italian restaurants, but Gabiano's remains one of my favorites.

One of the key issues with Italian-American cuisine in Portland is its intersection with the…read moregreater culinary culture. In short, it's difficult to tell when the local foodies love it and when they're outright making fun of it. Gabbiano's is a prime example. Before you even walk in the door, the branding's just a bit too winking. I've included the photo of their FAQ link that's basically a "what the hell do these people eat" take on their whole rainbow trout. Then there's the menu that goes with "calamari fritti" for the app, but "Classic Red Sauce(?)" for spaghetti marinara. Are we educating the rubes or are we assuming everyone's an adult and has done this before? The dining room design falls somewhere between rustic living room and disco lounge, but with just enough plates and cookbooks strewn about to reassure you: "Don't worry, there are ACTUAL chefs here, this is a CONCEPT." Heaven forbid someone actually get too attached to the cuisine, its background, or the more comfortable aspects of an Italian-American meal. That said, Gabbiano's is most definitely not playing games with its menu items. From the foccacia made in house and served with olive oil to the pork/beef/parm meatballs to the stracciatella, smoked salami, rainbow chard, and hot honey, the first course sets the tone. We bypassed the "red sauce" for dungeness crab alla vodka, which seemed to be a representation of the staff's inner turmoil over having a vodka-sauce dish on the menu at all. It's clear they don't think much of the lighter, creamier default and, instead, opted for a more chili-infused variety akin to what 3 Doors Down used to make. It's a nice pairing with the crab and the chili crisps, but vodka sauce it ain't. Finally, there's the showstopper: The chicken parm that's roughly the size of a manhole cover. I genuinely love how much effort went into hammering this as thin as it was, and how they're one of the few establishments that seasons the breading appropriately to complement the marinara and mozzarella. That said, the density of the breading layer is like crust, but--as I discovered bringing half of it home and eating it on half a loaf of Grand Central Como a day later--it softens up nicely on the second go-around. Gabbiano chef Liz Serrone deserves a whole lot of credit for introducing multiple Italian-American menus in this town (she's behind Take Two as well) right before it seemed everyone was doing the same. That timing came with a lot of risk, but it also allowed her to be more inventive than some of the places that came after her. I think of two of my favorites--Luce and Montelupo in Kerns--and realize that they're also a completely different take on Italian-American comfort (it could be argued that Luce dispenses with the -American part altogether). And I think that's where I also need to cut Gabbiano's some slack. Yes, its aesthetic seems a bit too much like an in joke at the expense of traditional Italian-American places. Yes, the approach can come of as a step too precious. But when you're the place that's bridging Portland from Ned "Edison Bulbs and Live Edges" Ludd and waistcoats to Sunday Sauce (designed by the same people as Gabbiano's) and family birthdays, maybe you're learning right along with everyone else. Definitely worth the time, and certainly worth staying around for after-dinner drinks at Take Two.
