Came here for some emergency clothes after the airlines misplaced my luggage while on a business trip. I used to live in Seattle for 11 years, so I have certain expectations of stores bearing the Nordstrom name. The selection was great and the prices what I expected. The three star deduction is for the staff in the men's department who were more interested in making what I consider inappropriate comments about the various women shopping and hitting on the ones they mutually agreed were "banging", and not at all interested in actually answering a question or two. And when you could get their attention, they were insufferable jackasses. Needless to say, I spent $12.97 + tax there and then went across the street to Macys and bought the rest of what I needed (suit, dress shirts, socks, shoes) for my Monday meetings there. Their salesmen were directly responsible for them loosing over $500 in sales today, solely due to their belittling attitude. They get two instead of one star because their cashier was pleasant and up to Nordstrom standards. I exclusively ship at Nordstrom/Rack, Macys, Brooks Brothers and Charles Tyrwhitt... If I lived in Chicago, I'd strike all Nordstrom and Rack stores off that list. read more

~ Soderstrom Rack ~ You know how the Wonderbra provides a deceptively nice facade? Well, Nordstrom Rack is a Wonderbra. I know what you're thinking, and I fell for it too. I like Nordy's. I also like saving money on Nordy's merchandise. Sold. Snap. Sigh. Suckered. I'm going to do you a favor, Young Yelper, yet again, and get you prepared for a visit to Nordstrom Rack so you have your expectations in the correct place, i.e. somewhere around sea level. Go into Nordstrom Rack thinking you may make a good find, but be prepared to have to settle for the purple striped and polka dot version of the item you want, and also be prepared to spend half of the afternoon doing it. Most of the merchandise in Nordstrom Rack hit every branch on the way down from the ugly tree, starting at Nordstrom at the top, past the Nordstrom sale items and the Nordstrom clearance items and then all the way down to Soderstrom Rack way down in the swampy south lands. I will admit they had a couple Zagiri shirts which were passable; they just didn't knock my socks off and hence were not purchased. They also had some Lucky jeans, but when I tried them on they were the ones which button basically as low as an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, yellow polka dot bikini. Um, I'm not a hipster. As to the shoes, well, athletic shoes are getting ridiculous these days with the silver and neon, and you'll find the ugliest of the ugliest of them at Nordstrom Rack. I purchased my $395 Burberry shoes here for only $50. Though I subsequently lost them on the train, they were my favorite shoes ever. And I own a buhjillion pairs of shoes. Something was not processing properly in my online purchases, particularly at the step one completes to add a new method of payment to their account, my efforts were for some reason stuck and not proceeding after I clicked on the "add payment" button (or whatever its called), without any error messaged display or prompts. As I have already picked out near 300 CAD worth of stuff I needed, I was committed to figuring out what was wrong so I could wear my cute new dresses. After seeking help from the chat, patiently explaining all the steps I have taken to reach the state I was in, I was ultimately told to just try again at another time, with no explanation as to why this might be happening or suggestions that could overcome the problem.. when I had already confirmed with the bank there were no reasons that would be happening. When I called the customer service line, I was told it would have to be processed with a USA issued credit card... a little dumbstruck, I inquired as to why, as there are options of "Canada" as the billing address. But I was told again that would be impossible. When I inquired how could it be possible then as a holder of a Canadian issued credit card to make purchases on the "nordstromrack" site, she told me flat out it would be impossible. I found this baffling, as it was listed Visa and Mastercard were acceptable payments. So I gave them an email, more so out of curiosity and to provide them with feedback, if Canadian issued cards were not accepted properly or parts of their service teams were missing some links. I later received an email confirming they do accept Canadian issued Visa and Mastercards. I was unable to reply to ask how to best proceed as it seems my email was blocked... even though the email to me finished with a invitation "Thank you for your time. Please let me know if there is anything else I may assist you with..." The experience was irksome and fruitless. I would love to see an improvement to their online customer support. All in all I found it really surprising, as I was someone with more then the sufficient funds, throwing money at the company. read more

Look. I know this place --like any other "rack" or seconds outlet-- is hit and miss. Some days I go in and go right back out. And I have yet to find a pair of jeans that isn't for a slutty 14-year-old or a minivan-drivin,' cellphone jockeying soccer mom (nothing wrong with either specimen, but I happen to be neither). BUT I am one of those people that literally has a pair of shoes in pretty much every color. I am complimented by strangers and friends alike on some of them every time I wear them. And I got nearly every single pair of them at the Chicago Nordy's Rack. [And don't try to say I have good luck because I wear a 6, because I often find something unbelievably, ridiculously cool, only to realize it's a freakin' size 7 1/2 or 8.] I used to live in Seattle (ptoo! ptoo!) --the home of Nordstroms-- and while I also lived at THAT Nordy's Rack... the Chicago one is better. What is it with stores in the Loop having great first floors? The first floor here is jut fine. You've got to dig around a bit, sure, since it's a discount store and all. I get that. I'm fine with the concept. But oh, god, the second floor. Something went terribly wrong when they laid this place out. It's always overcrowded and there's not enough room between things and. Aaaah. Aaaaaahhhhhhh. You can find neat stuff here from time to time, sure, but I rarely find it worth it to dig through the overcrowded mess. I've had good luck at other discount stores, yeah, but if those places are hit or miss ... well, this place is like 80% miss. I have no self control when I come here. It's obvious other people have the same issue since the fitting room lines and register lines are so long. I love how the cashiers wave their flags to get your attention that they are the next register available. The clothing and shoe area is ridiculous! They have so many brand name designer stuff here from super high end Versace clothes, Jimmy Choo shoes, Rock & Republic jeans, Coach watches, Kate Spade purses and more. I walked out with 3 pairs of jeans and a pair of shoes and yet I wanted to buy and try on more things. It was only because I knew I had to get going to other places that got me out the door. read more

I haven't been to other Nordstrom Rack's so I can't offer comparison, but this store came through in my time of need. I was going to this swanky 125th anniversary thing at Union Station on a Friday, but I hadn't been informed I was going 'til Thursday. A formal, classy dress was necessary, and seeing as my usual garb is vaguely grubby-hippieish, I had only one day in which to locate said dress. (not to mention shoes) thanks to Nordstrom, I was ready the next night in a floor-length white dress with rhinestone details and shoes to match. all for 100 dollars. Normally, their shoe department drives me to frustration, because of course the ones I like are the most expensive. But last time I braved the aisles, I came up with knee-high plum-colored suede boots for 30 bones. I haven't had any issues with their staff, in fact one of the cashiers I had was so friendly that we ended up having a whole conversation. They offer tailoring, but you have to go into the men's fitting room to find it, which was initially kind of awkward for me. bottom line: this can be an exhausting place to shop because you have to dig/get lucky. but once you do...you'll probably be inspired to return. STAY AWAY when the wallet is thin. read more

What a hot mess. This was probably the craziest store I've been to. I think Marshall's and TJ Maxx have a better layout than this. It was one floor of rack after round rack of so-so merchandise. I felt like it was hard to navigate through and it was all so "meh". Plus, what's up with the crazy shoe system? You can only get one shoe and then have to ask for it's match? I can't believe this is still going on! I remember back in the day when I saw this, I was like HUH? Didn't think it would last long but it did.....I would rather go to AJ Wright where the shoes are all out and they have avant garde fashion styles for $19.99 and under! This is my kind of shopping: well organized, brand-names at low prices, and I was in and out of the change room within 10 minutes. Success! Notable things: - dressing rooms allow up to 15 items (wow!) - free wifi in store - lots of affordable things at the checkouts are very tempting! I was in the mood for a rapid-fire shopping experience, and that's what I got. If you're a Canadian, think of this place as "Winners", and you'll know what to expect. read more

Been going to this Nordstrom Rack for years, and figured I should review it since I just posted the review of the new location. For selection, this store tops the new one. It is a bit disorganized, but I feel like it's worth it to me to hunt for the extra bargain (probably the brainwashing work of my mom). Also, the new store doesn't have stuff on sale yet, which makes this one even better. I went to the new location last weekend and didn't buy anything. I ended up going this NR immediately afterward, where I found an awesome windproof jacket and a running hoodie. One con: no kids section. I've been, some might say, blessed (or cursed) to be able to fit in some kids sizes. Just sayin', it would be nice to have the option. read more

2 1/2 stars. The stars are for the really sweet Karen Neuberger nightgowns and jammies I got a deal on here, the several purses I bought and that big bottle of Neutrogena bath jel. I agree with the people who have said that this shop is claustrophobia-inducing! Especially the second floor, which is disorganized and has narrow aisles. I usually stay on the first floor especially on the weekends so I don't need sedation. They have people zooming through here like they drank up all the coffee in Starbucks in one day, just about running you down, and that includes some of the staff. One of the staff who just about ran my mother down once and that I had complained about to deaf ears has been promoted. So their corporate culture must be similar to the roller derby's. I saw a manager zooming and spazzing by today, about to spontaneously combust, and thought, OK, that may explain a few things. Forget the products. Customer service is horrid at the State Street location. Probably the worst shopping experience I've ever had. Their loud speakers are constantly blaring on about their Rewards Card. I was going to buy a suit for summer here --- not a small purchase -- and wanted to sign up for the card. First, I try to sign up for their credit card -- usually a painless process at most retailers as I have a sack full of them. Rejected. Why? I have perfect credit -- virtually no debt --- a platinum AmEx card --- Oh ... I see. I changed addresses 6 months ago --- Nordstrom's apparently doesn't like that. If you've recently moved, beware. How about their rewards -DEBIT- card? says the associate. Fine. Whatever. They want my routing and account number. Done and done. "Your account doesn't exist sir." Maybe this fool punched in the numbers wrong. Sigh. I quickly call my bank. They verify the numbers. "Now your request was rejected." What? It's a debit card. The money is electronically transferred from my bank instantly. How can that possibly be rejected? "Your new (6 months old) address has to be verified by Nordstrom's. Please mail a copy of your utility bill and a scan of a photo ID to Nordstrom's blah blah center." Are you F-ING kidding me? You want me to go home, find bills, scan things, then SNAIL MAIL you them, and in 3-4 weeks you'll bestow me with your F-ING rewards card that you give to anyone with a pulse provided they HAVEN'T MOVED IN THE PAST 1-12 MONTHS? Nordstroms: It's little wonder why your stock price has been in the toilet for the past calendar year. YOUR POLICIES AND STAFF ARE INCOMPETENT. Stupidity thrives here. Be prepared to wait 15+ minutes in line at this under-staffed location. read more

I have found some really, really good deals at Nordstrom Rack which is amazing to me. Usually I find that stores just send their overstock and out of season stock to their outlet stores...but the price doesn't change in the least...but dang I get me some good deals at this store! I got a pair of sweet Me Too clogs last fall that were originally $90 and I got them for just under $30 and they are sooooooo incredibly comfy and I get a slew of compliments on them. So go, dig and be happy! read more

I'm walking down State Street and ooh, there it is...Nordstrom Rack...I'll just pop in and see what they have. Never a good idea...50+ dollars later I am the proud new owner of Betsey Johnson pajamas, a new Bliss hand lotion, Kerastase shampoo, a Tahari sweater or perhaps a sterling silver Calvin Klein frame. Yes, these and many others are designers you can find at this great store. Staff is pretty friendly (especially with the junk I'm sure they have to put up with) which makes this discount divas shopping experience even nicer. I was disappointed by the bra selection at this location, though I am sure savvier shoppers had already pilfered through the true bargains before I got there. While I like how the Nordstrom Rack is organized, because well... it IS organized, I never seem to find anything that I like that is priced well enough for me to buy. This location definitely had a great selection when it came to women's shoes above size 9.5. However, I am not a fashionista, nor am I crazy about designer labels. Fan-freakin-tastic prices and selection - I only wish they'd have had the shoes I wanted in my size.....then I'd have not left with only 2 pairs of pants, 2 shirts, 2 ties, 2 pairs of socks.....hmm, wait, maybe I'm glad they didn't have the shoes. Seriously - I replaced my slowly dying Seven for all Mankind jeans for $59 (retail $218) - the pants plus my round trip plane ticket to Chicago was slightly less than the retail pricetag with tax. Nordstrom Rack is one of the few places I can get clothes for work at a discount. However, at this location, it is really hit or miss whether or not I find anything. I also like Nordstrom Rack because it is the only store that carries shoes big enough for my bf in store, it has really been a godsend for him. I've tried a couple of times with Nordstrom Rack to try and get items I need for work and what I have found is that it is good for basics. I have been able to get a couple of pieces for work, but if I am in dire need of something new, I will get frustrated in a hurry with the options here. However, if you come here every couple of weeks to see what is in stock, you might stumble into something that is an absolute steal. Even though I wouldn't come here if I was looking for something in particular for clothes (already know I will not find it) it is always my first stop for shoes. I find Nordstrom Rack hard to rate, especially on the days when the lines are long and I can't find what I need (and an employee is nowhere is sight!), but I keep coming back; so I gotta say, NR is a-ok. read more

I am a fan of stores like the Rack because I was raised to never miss a deal:) I visit the Rack usually twice a month to check out new offerings, new sales, etc. Your best bet is to stock up on some patience and determination, because if you spend some time and dig, this place can be a gold mine! I've found shoes, purses, underwear, jeans, dresses, jewelry, picture frames...and so much more! But it all comes from patiently wading through the inevitable crap of which all these kinda discount stores all have an abundance! On a side note, watch out for heavily made up friendly ladies. They are the damn Mary Kay ladies who will compliment you on an item of clothing (purse, shoes) and then try to network with you, leaving you with a pink business card. I know their MO and I avoid these women like the plague (the first time it was in Corner Bakery, then another attempt was made in the Rack...and one even tried to corner me on the street by the Daley Center!!!) read more

I can't believe I am writing another review about a department store but this was my favourite place for deals when I visited Chicago. The selection of men's clothing as top-notch and I was able to find my size. One thing with these types of "last run" stores is that you often find the crazy styles that do fine on the catwalk but really not suitable for anywhere else. This was not the case. I was able to find a couple of basic stripe and check Hugo Boss dress shirts at a very reasonable price and a couple of pairs of sunglasses that were reduced to $16 from $200. If I want to compare this place to TJ Maxx or Marshall's or Winner's (Canada's version), this place comes out on top and thus deserves its rating. read more

Diane is to Nordstrom Rack as Hungry Lion is to Herd of Antelope. Weird metaphor I know, but if you saw how I behave in Nordstrom Rack, you'd catch my drift. I wander into Nordstrom Rack on State Street (located dangerously close to my weekly hotel in the Loop) a fairly normal human being dellusioned with my level of self-control. But once inside I am tranformed into a completely irrational and clothing-hungry beast. It's easy to just fly rack-to-rack, digging through, and move onto the next - encouraged by big red and yellow signs reading names of designers and flaunting Clearance prices at me. My most recent dangerous trip here this past week, I walked out with some clearance cashmere and a formal dress for some upcoming weddings - all for under $100, but on a weekly basis this is painful to the wallet! It's no wonder by the time I get to the dressing room to wait in the line I am ALWAYS over the 8 item limit. Why don't you get some more dressing rooms here if they are always so crowded?? For this, you must lose a star. On the whole, this place is 100% dangerous. Go in with your wits about you. But don't necessarily expect to keep them if you're a bargain-hungry individual like me! read more

This review is based on shoes (second floor) and only shoes... First off, layout works. They have racks set up based on sizes, which I like. I dislike places that have all sizes stacked under a specific shoe. I'd rather go into an aisle that holds SOLEY le size de moi. Ahthankyou. OMG SHOES! I have big, wide feet. Size 11. I thought Payless and Torrid were my only source of shoes in this world but hoe-lee-heck, was I wrong. NR has a HUGE selection of size 11 shoes -- and the selection is CUTE, to boot. I don't really buy much here, but they have a decent supply of odds and ends. Socks and underwear can be affordable, and I also have found some great pants here including a lot of stuff from Rag and Bone, which is extremely hard to find and VERY expensive new (I got a pair of pants for $28 the other day). I also love the shoe selection because they carry a lot of really decent brands like Allen Edmonds, Magnanni, Red Wing, Frye (mostly the Mexican and Cinese ones, but a few of the original domestic ones, too), and even the lone Birkenstock. Prices are all over the map, and while I'd love to get a pair of Allen Edmonds for $160, I probably wouldn't pay the $200 that they are sometimes marked at-- that said, it's not as though Nordstrom Rack is all "discount" or "clearance" stuff. I give a fourth star because I generally just like wandering around the store, even on Saturdays when half of Europe is in here, elbowing past you to get to their pair of $300 made-in-China Uggz-- it's fairly well-organized and the staff are friendly and helpful. read more

It doesn't help that I live half of a block away from this place, and am always tempted to stop in... Best deal in the store is when they have the wooden hangers for $4... Cheaper than IKEA, and double the quality. JEANS JEANS JEANS!!! They have great prices on jeans. Sometimes you can find cheaper prices at TJMAXX or Marshall's but you have to spend ALOT of time digging thru stock at these other two stores to find what you are looking for. Treasure hunting! thats what the Rack reminds me of. You never know if you are gonna strike gold and jus have dust in your hands by the end of the day. I tend to the Rack when I have a lot of time to kill and I am not particularly looking for something but i am in my "want mode". I jus need to get my shopping fix and then I am back to normal. That being said, I have bought the coolest pair of shoes (31 compliments so far - yes, I am keeping count) and lovely jewelery not to mention, a dozen odd pair of sun glasses which tend to disappear after the fourth month of ownership. I normally LOVE The Rack. At least, when it comes to shoes. I recently had a GREAT shopping day there. I found a number of dresses that (at least in the dressing room) fit and looked GREAT. However, most were too dressy for the event I was shopping for. I selected one dress (along with a new pair of running shoes) and proceeded to the checkout. Everything was perfect. Except that I got home and decided that the dress I chose was not as flattering as it seemed in the dressing room (damn their lack of 3-way mirrors in the ladies' dressing area!!!). So I opted to return it. I perused the dress racks first to see if anything else would work, but as I mentioned, most of it was TOO dressy for the occasion. I proceeded to the customer service area, where I was informed that because I aid with my (pin verified) debit card, the return MUST go back ONTO my debit card... cash return not an option. Even though it's been 4 days since the date of purchase. I questioned this, as I've NEVER been told I can't get cash back, and I use my debit card for the majority of my purchases, but the cashier was insistent. I went ahead, since I don't need an(other) ill-fitting dress. But something bugged me about it, so when I saw the manager at the watch counter, I asked him. And I was informed that this incident was NOT in fact representative of their return policy. But because the transaction had already been processed, there was no way to reverse the credit to my debit card, so he could not rectify the situation. read more

I come here for Spanx ($10! Yippee!), CHI and Paul Mitchell hair products ($10-15), and work out clothes (not such a great deal, but great variety nonetheless). Biggest disappointment: SHOE DEPARTMENT! Sure, the long rows of shoes looks promising from afar. Up close? Lots of tacky shoes and nothing I would wear. FAIL. This is particularly baffling to me since I absolutely adore the shoes at the regular Nordstrom. Overall, great deals, just give yourself plenty of time to scavenger around. read more

Love their selection of HANDBAGS, WALLETS, and JEWELRY on the first level. I have to work very hard to not look like a kid in a candy store! And imagine the candy is selling for discounted prices - eeeks temptation everywhere. Good variety of brands such as Michael Kors, Juicy Couture, Calvin Klein, and Betsey Johnson. Sometimes I also check out the SHOES and CLOTHES on the second level, but it takes a patient and willing mindset to dig through everything in order to hit gold. I love the discounted workout clothes that I got from here - I'm not a big fan of spending a ton on workout clothes, but I'd still like them to be nice, and I got nice pants and a nice outdoor runner's fleece jacket for very cheap. I've never waited for more than 5-10 minutes to check out, even during the holiday rush. There are plenty of cashiers to keep the line moving at a good rate even if it's long. read more

Yes, it's hit or miss, and yes, it's ridiculously crowded, but I always find good deals at the Rack. I went in looking for a winter coat on a Thursday afternoon and the place was jam-packed with ladies of all ages on their lunch hours. It was tough for me to find a mirror to model all those fine jackets in. After a lot of picking around, however, I got a Kenneth Cole Reaction down jacket originally priced at $125 for $75. Not bad at all. I've yet to find anything decent in the women's clothes section (a lot of the women's clothes are either very young or very old, with little for younger adults in between), but I was very pleased with this coat and have come here in a last-minute panic for dress shoes on more than one occasion. Just try to come on a weekday either early morning or late evening. On the weekends the place is a zoo. read more

This store has a good variety and tons of racks for Men's clothings. Everything you need from dress shirts to dress pants to polos and tees to shorts to activewear. The price isn't as good as a Marshall's, but the quality is a little better. I also am a big fan of the shoes they have for men there, I've gotten my last 3 pairs of shoes there for a decent price, and I still wear them after 3 years. read more

I think that it's unfair to rate a discount store poorly because you have to search through the junk for the little nuggets that are worth it. That's sort of the nature of the beast. Then again, I went to college in Boston during the heyday of Filene's. I cut my designer discount teeth searching through bins and racks in the original, underground Filene's basement. So I find it acceptable to have to do the same kind of searching here. I have gotten some amazing deals at this store. Gucci sunglasses for $70 (retail $300). A Francesco Biasia bag for $75 (retail $290). A Badgley Mischka belt for $42 (retail $250). And that's just in the past month. I don't find something every time I go and I am invariably frustrated if I go in with something specific in mind to buy.
