I love anthro clothing and home. And this last experience is why I don't shop in the store. Today I walked in about 15 minutes prior to their closing. (Side note: most retailers in the area are open until 8pm). Well for the 1st time ever I was greeted! The greeting "just so you know we are closing in 15 minutes." As I walked thru the store, I was approached by 3 more associates sharing how many minutes they were closing in. The last associate told me that the registers would close in 3 minutes. Honestly you know going into Anthro that you will drop some $$ so I expect better service. I was looking for a specific item, and if anyone would have asked to help me, it would have been a pretty easy 400$. There were about 12 other customers in the store getting the same treatment. They easily had 1200$ in sales that walked out because they were so uncomfortable. I left about 2 minutes before 7pm and they had to unlock the door to let me and other out. Do better. The one star is because the store is always well merchandised and clean. read more

I loved this location personally because they have furniture and decor. But mainly I felt like the service here was above and beyond! I was just there to pick-up an order I placed online for a Grecian Bust for a gift I'm giving in a few days. It was already wrapped in paper so I didn't look at it until after I got it home but when I did I found it is in completely unsellable condition. It should have minimally been in a discount bin if not marked out of inventory. I paid full price and it was intended to be a gift! It would have been mortified had I given it to the person without checking. It should never have been packaged up in that condition. Do better. read more

Don't be like me and coordinate your whole day around a shopping trip downtown to your favorite plus size store, only to be crestfallen when you get downstairs and it's all gone. With one exception, I could tell the staff was ignoring my confusion - probably because I was the 10th person that afternoon in this situation. Anthro, please do better for your plus size customers. Zero rating for this store I was forced to give them a 1 otherwise I would not be able to post!! Bought some merchandise yesterday unfortunately I was not able to try on any of the merchandise went home tried it on some I did not like how it looked others I kept but today when I went to return it I was do happy the store was not busy at all y fue hat ruined it was the attitude of the employee after the solitarios it all went sour. I put up with it for a while but I finally asked if there was a problem. I apologized for returning the clothes that I did not keep but she continued to give me attitude I asked if she could count the items I was returning, she totally ignored me. She walked away to talk to her co-worker who was not busy taking care of no-one I'm telling you the store was a bit slow I asked for my receipt so that I could ck off the items I was returning she didn't even ask if I needed help because she was talking with co-worker when she came back to me I asked her if there was a problem why was she giving a hard and being rude she said she was going to give me the same attitudes but I was not doing anything I wish they will look at the cameras and if it has voice activation better yet. I had never had such an awful experience in any of the anthropology stores 1st and last time I will go to this store it's a shame they do have beautiful clothes but do do other stores that will respect you as a valued customer read more

This Anthropologie must be new because I could have sworn there was one in Near North or Gold Coast? Anyway this location is much closer thank you very much. As part of any trip to a different city Anthropologie is just one of those places my wife has to drag me to being as that it's her favorite store and all. As usual I am looking for the guy section a.k.a. the couch which I usually gravitate to like a moth to a flame knowing that I'm going to be sitting in the store for the better part of 20 minutes to a half hour. Fortunately my wife actually didn't find anything she liked this time around AND I didn't remind her about there being another location on State in the Loop. Anthropologie is always a very nice and cozy store however. Their stuff is always changing and they don't just have clothes. They also have a variety of housewares and even books and jewelry. I've been to a gazillion of them all over the continent so I guess I am just jaded. read more

I love Anthropologie! I rarely buy the full price stuff with my salary, but the little trinkets and sale rack are usually great...unfortunately, I haven't had much luck with this Anthropologie. Out of all the Anthropologies I've been to, this is my least favorite. Staff are OK. The facility itself is gloomy in my opinion. The basement floor is dark and, well, basement-ey. For a store that is supposed to be all about free spirit and chic, I don't feel that way in this store at all. My least favorite part about this store is their sale rack. It's pretty bare and the sales are mediocre at best. Still a great place to window shop! Their window decorations are always on point! read more

Holy shitake, this place is monstrous (I realize American Girl was big, but I never realized Anthropologie would ever need so much space)! Just when you think you've seen every dress, shirt, necklace, and tank top known to man, walk through another doorway and there's more! I love coming in here just to browse around and mill in their sales area...which is always my mecca spot. I'm not rich, but I like to pretend to be by buying jewelry and cutesy shirts for half price (I once found a $70 necklace for $10! Score!). Maybe I don't quite yet understand it, but I cannot justify spending $78 on a tank top when I can just wait a few months and find it on sale (or go to H&M for something similar). I hate that they stick the drawer knobs right in the middle of the floor so you have to walk by them and wonder, "Hmm....maybe I SHOULD make all the cabinets in my home have glitter or kooky letter knobs!" Or that you really could use 3 new potholders because they have bright colors that distract you. But I digress. The sales people are super nice (from what I've seen) and when I try on clothes I've never seen people so excited to help me find a dressing room. Everything is laid out in a somewhat spacious manner and I never feel like I'm being hounded by a sales associate trying to make their quota for the week (this doesn't mean that no one is there to help you out in a jam, however). The only thing I would like to know is why my boyfriend is receiving the catalog in the mail when I've signed up for practically everything they offer and stop in every other week? This location is the best one in the downtown Chicago area in my opinion. I think there are about 3 locations within less than 2 miles of each other, but the selection of all items at this location puts the other 2 to shame. This location has 2 full levels of clothes, shoes, and household items. If you are like me, and enjoy a good bargain, then you will love their sale area. While most other locations have a walk in closet sized room for sale items, the sale section here is enormous. During the day I was here, sale items took up about 25%-30% of that entire floor. All the staff here were super friendly and willing to help, which also made for a pleasant shopping experience. read more

It always smells so nice in the store which is why this is my permanent place to buy Voluspa candles and soaps. Occasionally, they will have them on sale which is a plus. The clothes are a tad pricey, but I've bought a few dresses and skirts that have held up after numerous washes - you do get what you pay for! Be careful when purchasing clothes on sale/clearance, however. There have been times when I'd find some with the threads coming loose...Overall Anthropologie is a wonderful and relaxing shopping experience. It's clean, organized and the staff is friendly. Ahhhnthropologie. Shopping at anthro is a real treat for me. A one-in-a-while splurge, if you will. I was just stepping out empty handed from Nordstrom Rack next door and was on my way to lunch with a friend. Boing! I sprung back and was drawn into this anthro location. Many moons ago, I visited this building when it was American Girl Place. Anthro takes the building to a whole new level like they usually do with every store. Their merchandisers and buyers really have the coolest job and are very good at what they do. It's one thing to go on etsy and buy original pieces of clothing and jewelry, however, stepping into an anthro store is like visiting a book series of stores. Every store is slightly similar, but unique. The soundtrack with hints of whimsy, scents and ceramics, woods and cloths, that invite you into a shopping experience that's welcoming. Well, fast-forward we go to my over-all visit to anthro on Chicago Ave. Love this place. Enjoyed the layout, products and selection. The sales rack had oodles of XS or large sizes, nothing for us mid-range bodies. That's ok. I found perfect jeans, a perfect perfume and candle. That was enough for me. Oh, and I always get a good laugh at the Man's couch. The looks of yearning for wings, sports and beer among bird-inspired curtains, leather riding boots and sage candles is pretty hilarious. read more

I adore Anthropologie. Specifically the home decor, furniture, and dresses. And sweaters, purses, aprons, soaps, accessories.....okay everything....the ruffles and store's French feel. I continue to receive compliments on each of my Anthropologie purchases. The new location's size is unbelievable. And fortunately or unfortunately...close enough for me to walk to on my lunch break ;) Yes, things are pricey but you get what you pay for. I don't shop often but when I do shop I go all out. I believe in quality over quantity. I buy a few pieces I love and tend to accessorize and wear them to death. Enter Anthropologie. With my retail background I am always impressed with the window displays and the store's merchandising. And often wonder if many sale items are being sold near cost. No one was in the fitting room when I got there. Sigh. This store is also laid out really, really weirdly. Very sparse on the top floor, but the bulk of the store is in the basement. I couldn't find a spot to just shop for jeans. Very frustrating. Probably won't be back. read more

This is my favorite Anthro in all of Chicago. A ton of merchandise, beautiful trinkets and jewelry. Great sales room as well! Although a bit on the pricey side, I always leave with one of a kind pieces on that I wear for years and get ton of compliments on! Anthropologie as a brand is fine. Some like it, some don't... I'm sort of in the middle. This store specifically, as others have mentioned is definitely not as friendly or as well laid out as some of the other stores. The bottom floor just keeps going and going and going... I personally think the items are too spread out and kind of awkwardly placed. The entrance to the store is right next to the Nordstrom Rack entrance so if Anthro isn't doing it for you just hop over to Rack and get some deals. read more

As others have mentioned, this Anthro location has got some junk in the trunk, in the form of a huge downstairs area disproportionate to its street level space. They use the space well, interspersing sales racks with the charming displays that are Anthro-typical. The sales room is disappointingly small given the size of the overall store, but I was thrilled to take advantage of regional style differences by snagging a clearance shirt long sold out in my local Boston store. This was also one of the most poorly organized sales rooms I've ever seen in an Anthro. I dislike that the store layout forces you to cover a lot of acreage and almost certainly a staircase to get anything done (try clothes on, check out the main selection, make a purchase, etc.). It would be very hard to make a quick purchase here. read more

I was greeted by a warm welcome from an associate who informed me where they kept their Voluspa candles. I am a die-hard Voluspa hoarder, and when when Bloomingdale's Medinah home store doesn't have the flavors I need in my collection, I hit up Anthro to see which flavors they've added to their collection. Another associate escorted me to the Voluspa corner and from there she began to offer me advice on her favorite flavors. She and I had opposite fragrance palates, but she was still receptive. What I love about these associates are how impeccably dressed they are. I mean, each associate looks as if they were styled by Anthropologie's merch managers. If you are looking for a unique shopping experience, visit this Anthro! It just takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Michigan Avenue. read more

Okay, I must admit, I'm not one to write reviews. Mostly b/c my life is just too busy. However, when I have an "out of this world" experience, I find it worthy to spend the time.... Anthropologie is hands down my favorite store so it's not shocking that I had a great experience there today. The difference this time was all in the personal shopper, Nancy. Let me just say WOW!!! I walked in with somewhat of a "vision" for a wedding I am attending tomorrow. An associate kindly offered me the service of their personal shopper and just like that it turned into one of the most amazing shopping experiences I've ever had! Nancy was very attentive and considerate of my taste. She was truly a pleasure to work with and I am thrilled with the results! The conclusion: an AMAZING look I can't wait to show off :) read more

When I first walked into this Anthropologie location, I thought, "Hmm, this is pretty small. I wonder why they moved from the other location?" Then I saw the stairs to the basement... Whoa, nelly. This store is really huge. Which is great if you have a lot of money to spend on whimsical clothing, aprons and cupboard knobs. (Which I typically don't.) Sometimes when I am here wandering aimlessly around I wish everyone would leave and I could just move in. Adorable aprons and potholders and fun furniture. So many candles to smell. I love the floors - all around they did a really nice job with this space. When you get to the bottom of the stairs, make a left and walk towards the wall and then turn again to your left. I purchased a quilt and shams from Anthro in July '10...they started piling after only 3 weeks of minimal use, but i loved them so much i decided to keep everything. Within the next few months, random seams started to pop and tears started showing up in odd places. I decided, after 6 months, that this was a defective set, crossed my fingers and sent an email to customer service. To my amazement I received a reply on a saturday and they said they would be happy to refund the merchandise (even though it had been 6 months since the initial purchase was made)! I was beyond shocked and very pleased. I returned the items to their store in downtown Chicago without (much) ado...I could tell the store manager (margo, i think) was annoyed but she still refunded the purchase. In today's day and age, I don't expect much in the way of customer service anymore. So when I actually received above-par service from Anthro, I thought it fitting to leave positive feedback about my experience. Cheers, Anthro! You're still in the game. read more

Like! like! like! I really like anthro, they usually have a great selection of vintage inspire dresses, unique shoes and scarves,lovely necklaces, etc,etc,etc... I have never been into any sale area because usually looks like a small room in a corner, full of clothes everywhere... But, This location has the coolest SALE I have ever seen in an Anthro store. It's really open and well organized. I loooove the "scarves wall" so many options. Also, they have a decent shoes stock. People there is friendly and I was happy that they didn't follow me everywhere. I like to do my shopping ALOnE :) if I need any help I will ask for. read more

Bigger Anthropologie store than the one in Block 37 with a robust sales section and housewares aplenty. The store always smells good, thanks to a selection of candles arrayed throughout. I am probably less of a fan of the clothing, as the styles are a little too twee (and I've purchased more closet orphans from here over the years than I care to admit). It is fun to while away a Saturday afternoon looking at the housewares--yes, I am a sucker for the cutsey measuring spoons, tea towels and aprons--but rarely have I bought anything at full price. The customer service here is solid, neither overly hovering or hanging the customer out to dry, although I was surprised that the saleswoman didn't make any overtures to check in the back or contact other stores when I inquired as to a leather jacket I saw on a mannequin. The location is convenient and I know I will be back here for one of my semiannual perusals of the home items, or whenever one of the window displays is calling my name. read more

Absolutely love this store. I love anthro's merchandise and their general vibe so I'm starting off biased here, but I absolutely love this particular store location. The people who work here are really knowledgeable and fashionable and are really, really helpful. They make an effort to get to know you also. I've had a couple of instances where they've worked wonders to find my size at a different store or have it shipped to me for free. The service and friendliness at this store is great, especially for how busy they are (prime location!). I find that of all the anthro's in chicago, this one has the most merchandise (and also carries a ton of shoes and accessories) - it's my "treat yourself" place and I always leave here feeling more relaxed and creative, even if I don't buy anything! read more

Wandered into Antro shamelessly to check out their sale section. I was greeted by this amazing saleswoman who was very attentive and helpful. Chicago winters require huge puffy coats, scarves, gloves, you name it. This particular sales lady was very kind and offered to take my jacket, winterwear and shopping bags back into the fitting room so I could shop comfortably! It was unexpected and very kind and I think speaks wonders to the customer service. Needless to say I spent more than I intended to, but I justified it by the excellent customer service! I love Anthropologie- their clothing, the sales, and the employees especially the employees at the store on Southport Ave in Lakeview. Shoutout to Alyssa! 5 stars because of the ratio of good vs bad experiences. However, there is a manager at this location (Chicago ave) who has very poor customer service skills (I believe her name is Amanda). She is not polite and her facial expression is never friendly. I was trying to do an additional order in store online and the cashier could not figure out how to do it. The manager came over to help, the item was in the cart online then at checkout it disappeared. The item was still available online but the manager said they are trying to "phase it out" and I should do it online myself which completely defeats the purpose of doing it in store (no shipping fee). I have never heard this "phase out" rule and I've done multiple online in store purchases. I spent 20 minutes there trying to do the online order and left with only the top I bought in-store, nothing to be delivered. read more

Today, cashier said the past three returns have been handled against policy, I need to have the credit card with me, and made me leave again. That's consistency and customer service. read more

I have been to many locations of Anthropology in different states, but this store is by far my favorite. They have a very large clothing and household section. It is likely their flagship store being off Michigan Ave. The other area where they excel is their help in the dressing room. I don't know her name (long blonde hair) but she is always in the dressing room area when I visit the store helping with sizes and bringing items that may look good on you. She is probably the best dressing room manager (I don't know the title) that I have ever encountered in a retail establishment. 5 Stars! read more

So not the lowest rating, because I can't deny that theyve got the most gorgeous things. I could easily blow lots of money and a couple hours here. BUT the customer service leaves a LOT to be desired. Let me tell you the story of my bath mat. I went to Anthropologie, not looking for anything in particular, and left with a small bathroom mat that I thought would match my newly renovated bathroom perfectly. And it did! So I wanted to call and ask them to hold another one of the mat, so i could get another to match. I literally called four times over the course of two days -- and every time was an epic fail to talk to a person who could help me. They'll certainly pick up the phone, and then they'll put you on hold forever, until really your coffee break's over/the ads are over/your dog looks like she's about to explode if she waits for her walk any longer. So today, after church, I was with my nanny and we stopped by so I could check in person. It's a really pretty bathmat, what can I say?? My nanny is a bit old mind you, so she wanted to get home. But she went down the huge stairs with me, walked all around the massive space with me to try to find the mat, then walked all around a second time to try to find staff to ask for help. After forever, we find one, and (just like the phone), I get passed onto another person. Who I have to wait for. Upstairs. So up the stairs poor nanny and I go, and despite insistence that the lady would be with us "as soon as she's done with that customer," we waited for her to take care of the entire queue for the cash register. Meanwhile, nanny is starting to get very tired. Another staff member going off duty notices and assures me on her way out the door that we'll be seen soon. OK. But we still wait, wait, wait. Finally, the lady who was supposed to help us got to us, and then started leading us down the stairs again.... I've had enough, and I'm certainly not making my nanny go up and down again. So I ask her if she could just let us know after she checks the stock room, we'd wait upstairs. She says ok, and we wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait. And.... wait. Finally, nanny and I have had enough and I go to the cash register to leave my phone number, with a request to call if they had it in stock. Girl number three behind the register says, "Oh, you were looking for that rug, right? Yeah she called up and told me to tell you that we didn't have it." WTF. Letting me know after me asking you is entirely different from "go and tell" me. Screw this Anthro. End of the story of the bathmat? I've got it from anthropologie.com. Ta da. Oh, did I mention this is on a Wednesday evening?? There's no crowd, no rush of people, no excuses. Just crummy service. And sales staff who borrowed some bad attitude from the American Apparel handbook (although! disclaimer! the American App staff at the store by Rush Street defy the playbook and are actually super nice). Fine, what are the good things? Umm Anthro stuff is really great and they have a huge selection at this particular store, and the store smells really nice. There. Bad stuff besides the poor excuse for customer service?? It seems like they're moving things CONSTANTLY (good luck finding a particular item), and the sale room is tiny and looks like a mess (if you're still going to charge me $60 instead of $100 for a blouse, thank you, but does that mean it has to be crumpled in a ball on the floor?). Long and short, if it's between this Anthropologie or the other ones in the city, I'd pick the other one. read more
