I always pass by Noren and finally got to check it out the other day. There's a lot of seating and it's also nicely decorated inside, making it a great place for big or small groups. The service was quick too, which we appreciated. The spicy tuna handroll had good-quality fish and a pretty presentation. The seafood pancake was one of the better ones I've had in Seattle. The seafood pieces were large and tasted fresh, and the pancake had a great texture that was crumbly without falling apart. I visited Noren in Capitol Hill yesterday and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. I ordered the glass noodles, which arrived extremely hard and difficult to swallow. When I politely told our server, Mandy, that the dish was not edible, she did take it back but never offered a replacement or apologized for the quality. When it came time to pay, the dish was still on the bill. Mandy told me only the manager could remove it and gave me Jessica's contact information, asking me to follow up the next day. I never received a call back. I called again and spoke with Mark, who claimed to be a manager. He informed me that they would not remove the inedible dish from my bill and that the only compensation they could offer was a 5% discount on a future visit--which, frankly, feels unreasonable given that the food was barely touched. The overall customer service was dismissive and unprofessional, and I left feeling unheard and undervalued as a customer. Based on this experience, I will not be returning. read more

My favorite is the salmon collar and it is grilled to perfection. We found this spot randomly while walking by and it seemed to have a nice vibe inside so we went in. The space is huge, and it's a great spot to hangout and catch up with friends. I don't remember the name of the cocktail I got, but it had a whole mango melona bar inside! The drink itself was the perfect level of strength and the ice cream made it even better. We also got the tteokkbokki and jajang fried rice for the table to share, and both were great. The tteokkbokki is really spicy so be warned, but the jajang fried rice was perfect. The food itself was fine, but the service was disappointing and made the experience uncomfortable. We arrived at 12:05 a.m., and Google lists the restaurant's closing time as 1:00 a.m on a Saturday. As soon as we sat down, we were told to order immediately because the kitchen was taking last call. This felt rushed, especially since new customers were still being seated and allowed to order after we had already placed ours. We also had to ask for lighting because we were the only table without a desk lamp. Toward the end of our meal, we were given the check and told to pay quickly because the registers were closing. We explained that we were paying with cash, but were still repeatedly rushed, which felt unnecessary and poorly communicated. At 12:55 a.m.--five minutes before the posted closing time--the server announced that the staff had already gone home and that we needed to leave. There was no prior warning or polite heads-up. Our empty plates were never cleared, we weren't asked if we wanted leftovers boxed, and the request to leave came abruptly. Another nearby table left immediately after hearing the same announcement. Overall, the service felt rude and unprofessional. The tip we gave our server was regrettable considering how bad the service was. Loved Noren Sushi! We were headed to a show at the Paramount just a few blocks away and this may be our new preshow spot. I made a reservation but that may not have been necessary before 7pm. It started to fill out by 6:30 though, so keep that in mind. The draft Japanese beers came out ice cold, and the food we ordered was staggered in service, so we weren't overwhelmed by plates. Between two of us we got three sushi rolls and a plate of veggie yakisoba. This was the perfect amount for us to feel comfortably full and not regret our choices. The Sakura Roll was my favorite of the three. We also got the Crazy Monkey and the Crispy Delight. All excellent rolls though, and each brought a different texture and flavor to the table. I wouldn't classify this as a "four dollar sign" sushi restaurant, necessarily. I think that might be a bit high, because while the prices aren't cheap-cheap, they're in line with the quality of the food. I think 2-3 dollar signs is more accurate, so don't let that scare you away from trying this awesome place! read more

When visiting Seattle for a conference, a friend and I went looking for something within walking distance from the convention center our first night. Noren Sushi Kitchen & Bar was about a 10-15 minute walk and fit the bill. Like every restaurant and bar currently in Seattle, Noren is taking COVID-19 precautions seriously. They verified our vaccination status at the door and also wore masks. The service was excellent. They sat tables with social distancing, which was good, so these were great features of the restaurant. For the food, I thought it was good, not great. The best sushi was the awesome and fresh salmon nigiri, and the scallop madness roll was interesting and pretty yummy. The shrimp tempura roll was below average. One of my friend's speciality rolls was tasty, and then the other was average. All in all, I would describe it as a 3.5 star meal and experience. I will round up to 4 because of the service and the COVID-19 social distanced seating. read more

WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE! PARKING! Parking even though it was a bit challenging, once you find a spot, you can download an app to pay to add more time if needed. Finished our drinks at the Reserve and ran up the street for dinner here. They checked our temperature painlessly through some contraption pointed at our forehead. So glad it wasn't checked traditionally. We ordered quite a bit of food, so get comfy on your throne if you're gonna read all this. Calamari, Hamachi Special, and Garlic Edamame for appetizers. Fairly large calamari rings with a nice spicy sauce. Hamachi Special was good with a jalapeño slice on it. Garlic edamame was good as well. Agedashi was great! Fried nicely and partly in some sauce. For the food...bear with me. Trying to jog my memory because we had a great time if you know what I mean. Spicy tuna hand roll. Perfect. Not too hot and no shortcuts taken to try and pass off something. Salmon skin hand rolls. Maybe a bit under but still crispy. Didn't fall apart or take extra effort to bite. Volcano roll. Now there's a twist. It came with a small cup that was on fire on the side. Really neat to see that. Next up, Amy's Special. Can't remember too much on it because they kept it at the other side of the table and I was too much into the next dish. Firecracker roll. Very spicy and very enjoyed. One thing I'd probably mention was that the cut rolls seemed to come apart easily a few times. But nothing that affected anything big. At this point my brother in law and myself each killed a bottle of Sake and that's probably why I don't remember much of the rolls. Speaking of Sake. Wifey and sister in law shared a Sake sampler that had Strawberry, Lemon, and Matcha sakes. We finished off with some Mochi which...well...its Mochi. I think there is only one maker of Mochi in the world. Service? They were all amazing! Specially Olivia! She was like family and joining in the laughs and fun! Our biggest issue was that they didn't tell anyone there was automatic gratuity but still asked for extra 18-20% on top of the auto grat they didn't say was already on there. For the price, you think this will be a good spot with some tasty food but was I wrong. The only think that seem pictured worthy was the couple on a romantic date, while she wore happy cows come from California fur coat. Anyways, the Karaag was not cooked all the way. The batter left a chewy, under cooked batter. The rolls were okay. Could've gotten the same flavor profile from Costco. Service was okay. They greeted us at timely manner. I walked in and was immediately greeted by someone (couldn't tell where the voice was coming from) and that made this Southerner feel so welcomed! I sat at the sushi bar and made fast friends with those around me. Carson and Mindy were both so helpful, accommodating, and went over and beyond to help me fully enjoy my experience. After many years of walking by this restaurant, I finally tried this place. Service - ok, but please clean chairs and tables. Too many crumbs! Nigiri Sushi - ok, just like any other ok sushi restaurants out here. It's not bad, or amazing either. Similar to sushi from any grocery stores here. Cali roll - the same quality as any grocery stores here. Katsu pork cutlet - you get what you expect from this type of restaurant. Don't have a high expectation Shumai & gyoza - you can make this on your own at home using the frozen shumai and gyoza from any Asian stores or Trader Joe's. I can't say that I'd recommend this place, but it's not terrible if you are hungry and just want to eat cheap sushi quickly. I did like the Cali rolls.
