The first time I tried Mikan was at Camp Yelp event where they had decent sushi (and seems to be popular as they were the first to run out of food). From that, I saw they had a deal for the shrimp tempura udon via online ordering (BOGO) so I decided to give this place a try as a paying customer. The place is located in Fairview Market Hall, across Bleuwiches and seems to share facilities with them. I placed an order and they quoted 35-45 min for pickup. Sounds long for just udon but sure. I went close to the 45 min mark and realized the person didn't even start the order. I waited an additional 20 minutes for the order to be prepared. Can they add more staff to reduce such dreadful wait times? I can't imagine how bad it is during lunch, when it takes over one hour for just an order of udon and there was only one order ahead of me. Might as well just place an order and come back for the next meal... The shrimp tempura udon is solid. For regular pricing I wouldn't find it worthwhile, so I would only order from here for just items in BOGO. It took 2 bowls for me to be satisfactorily full so on paper, maybe it is 2 small bowls that make up just a bit over 1 regular order from another place. I finally tried Mikan Bento at around 12:30 on a Thursday. There were quite a few people but it wasn't overly crowded. The space is shared with bleuwitches. Immediately after walking in, we saw the sushi bar, which I didn't realize they had! You can pick your rolls and pay by weight (?) I assume, and it seemed like a good deal. I wanted poke so I ordered on their tablet. The poke took quite a few minutes to come out. Price wise, $14 for a poke bowl is pretty good! It's a decent amount of food too. Wanted to get some easy food to get at the waterfront and wanted to try this place out. You order at a tablet and then they let you know when your order is ready, I think you're supposed to get a text but they just saw me and told me. The spot is nice in the slu food hall right across from bleuwiches which I believe shares workers / owners as I saw people working go back and forth between the two. The food I got was good, also a lot. I liked the yuzu paste on top. The guy also gave me a free miso included which was super nice! Came here on a weekday for dinner. We ordered at the kiosk and then waited for our food in the lobby. Took about 20-30minutes for the food to come out, but maybe they're working out kinks because they just opened? We got the chirashi, sushi rolls and the sweet potato with creme brûlée topping. The fish was really fresh and the owner was friendly but minus one star because the rice was hard and so was the sweet potato. I think the dessert would have been better if the sweet potato was whipped for mashed and then topped with the creme brûlée. Overall, a nice spot to open in that market hall! My coworker and I came here for lunch this past week. We meant to try Mikan earlier for dinner when they first opened in March, but they were only open until 3 or 4pm originally. They have since extended their hours from 10:30am to 8:30pm Monday through Saturday. I agree with other reviewers that they are under the same ownership as Bleuwiches, which shares the same space. Mikan Bento has about 20 different traditional and signature rolls. I will note that many of their rolls are fusion, and not traditional (such as the kimchi roll and Mikan roll which has mango/orange dressing). They also serve poke, bento boxes, chirashi, and sushi platters. My coworker and I shared two of their signature rolls: the RAINBOW ROLL ($16) and the SEATTLE VOLCANO ROLL ($15). They also have a new buffet style sushi counter where you can pick out different rolls and put them in your box (I'm not sure how much this option costs, but I think it's priced by weight like FOB Sushi in Westlake). The RAINBOW ROLL (8 pieces) was decent. The albacore, salmon, and avocado were fresh and the rice was just the right consistency and taste. I always love the variety of fish in rainbow rolls, and this one did not disappoint. However, the shrimp was a little dry (also shrimp was not listed as one of the ingredients in the roll). The SEATTLE VOLCANO ROLL (8 pieces) had a nice kick to it from the gochujang. The tempura was nice and crispy as well and I liked the touch of fried onion. The only reason I am giving them 3 instead of 4 stars is that service was extremely slow. It took at least 20 minutes to get our order after ordering at the kiosk. There was a line of people who had done the buffet and were waiting to pay too. Similar to Bleuwiches, they are short on help with only two workers cooking, taking orders, and running the register. Despite their slogan of "Fresh Fish. Fast Bites," you definitely cannot be in a rush. They do not have seating, but you can eat in the Fairview 400 common area or take your sushi to go. TIP: They have HH after 2pm with an all you can eat sushi special for $15.99 (not sure if it's only offered on certain days or for a limited time, but not a bad deal considering one signature sushi roll is $15). The sad part is that there is only 2 workers here operating both sushi and sandwich place that are directly from each other. We ordered a sandwich and that took about 10 minutes but we also ordered the sushi the same time and it took 40 minutes to come. While the worker was finishing off orders on the sandwich side another customer was complaining about how there's no one on the sushi side and he's been waiting a long time. Although there was 2 workers only one was running the show. I didn't like how the sandwich was kind of thrown at me, then went across to make sushi. I would have totally understood that the establishment is understaffed. If they were nice or had better attitude I would have had no problem. But even the sushi order was very rushed and half of it was given at a time and I had to go back twice to get my food. There was a bunch of people waiting on their orders. Exceeded all expectations!!! Modest presentation of a walk up sushi bar gives way to thick rolls with large cuts of fish. Had a crab and avocado roll with seared salmon layered on top, and it was legitimately the best roll I've had in multiple years! Had the kindest young man making sushi with care behind the bar that clearly enjoyed his new working environment. I got to speak with the highly ambitious owner, and he is clearly the type of person that inspires the people around them that he touches each day. I landed on a business trip and ordered at the chef's kiosk. I ordered his top bowl and a sushi roll - both pretty pricey but not over the top. When he called out my name to pick it up - he refused to give me MY food. He began to raise his voice and exclaim that i wasn't the person that he called out for and that the order did not belong to me (it 100% belonged to me). Instead , he kept waiving at an older caucasian woman to come take the food from me. She rejected because she knew it wasn't hers. He demanded me to show my receipt to him and he quickly realized that he profiled me. He began to say , "oh , i thought her name was diego. sorry." I do not understand how an elderly white woman can have a hispanic first name - possible for sure , but come on now. Have you never seen a Mexican man be able to purchase sushi in this city ?
