The work was good & the price was fair, but we found him (Norlan) difficult to communicate with. If I had a question or opinion about the big remodel job, he got defensive, and it turned into a debate, and made us feel small every time. We were always afraid to say anything, even on this platform; I'm sure he'll clap back, he can't help himself. He thinks he's always right; what you think doesn't matter. We heard this (afterwards) from at least three others who have also used this company. And in December, they sent out a Holiday/Christmas email instead of a Christmas card, which would be fine if it were sent to an individual client, but not to everyone they do business with who were on this email! There were about 100 email addresses visible to everyone, which was very tacky, cheap, and unsafe. read more

Norlan's approach to servicing my pool has been consistently disappointing and frustrating. Instead of providing solutions, he creates problems to charge for their resolution, all while asserting his superiority and expertise aggressively. Recently, I purchased a pump to reduce my electrical bill, unaware that it wasn't suitable for installation in California. Norlan went ahead with the installation after receiving payment, only to inform me afterward that it was not compliant. Now, I'm forced to spend an additional $200 to reinstall my old pump. Additionally, Norlan identified a leak in my water replenishment system and attributed it to a tree root, demanding $1000 for repairs. Despite shelling out the money, the issue persisted, causing my water bill to skyrocket. When confronted with evidence of the ongoing leak, his response was dismissive, suggesting I hire a leak detection company. Furthermore, when my salt pool's cell generator started showing errors, instead of offering assistance or troubleshooting, Norlan immediately blamed it on my existing equipment. His lack of accountability and willingness to shift blame are unacceptable. To add insult to injury, his son, coincidentally present during a pool cleaning session, discovered that a loose bolt was causing the leak, resolving the issue. Yet, Norlan had the audacity to demand an additional $85 for the service call. In summary, Norlan's dishonesty, incompetence, and disregard for customer satisfaction have led me to terminate our business relationship. Dealing with someone who consistently lies and cheats is not worth the stress and aggravation. Norlan, you're fired. read more

Been a long time customer for almost 4 years. Unfortunately since the original owner turned over the business to others, service quality has significantly declined. Turnover in pool service employees results in inexperienced and poorly trained employees. I observe if the routine pool water testing is unbalanced, they have to have a more experienced employee come over to diagnose & correct. Because the employee assigned for my routine pool cleaning doesn't speak English, I can't effectively communicate my concerns or ask simple questions. Customer service is also lacking. We are not given notice when other employees come over for supplement service. When they arrive, they don't bother to call, text or knock on the door. Simply walk in our back yard, sometimes surprising us or the dogs. When I ask them to notify us for the next visit, they apologize and say it won't happen again. I have called the office regarding this and they apologize and always say they will speak to them. Same result on the next visit. The last straw was their pool cleaner was showing up at 630 in the morning to service our pool! I know this is hard work in a challenging environment but this is a highly competitive business. Plenty of other pool service folks out there. I wrote this review hoping the owner will see this and make corrections. But for me, I have changed to another competitor. read more

Fabulous service. I have used Norlan's pool service for years to replace heater, valves, etc. Always very happy with the friendly, professional, and knowledge technicians. When you call for service you are greeted by Maria. Another knowledgeable, friendly, helpful person. I would give Maria ten stars. Disclaimer: I do not know Maria , never met her nor am I a relative. This pool company is amazing at doing pool Remodels. Norlan's really attentive, and our pool is done really well. Really happy with it! Three stars okay 4 stars because the maintenance side of this business needs more attention and communication. There was algae on the steps last week. Then we returned this week and still have algae. We Simply pointed out the algae and asked that it had been there And the Employees response was to blame us for having the spa on but then algae had been there since at least July 1st. I had to quickly get out of it and left it on when he arrived. So yes it was still on, but that was 1 day and honestly it just so happened the week before that, because I tend to use it before the gym. I know he'll probably be coming soon. So I listen for him. So I can get out and get a towel on and run inside. We have pool automation and the filtration resets everyday, which I have on a split schedule. 6 AM -1:59 PM and then again from 8 PM-12 AM. It's his job to take care of the algae and notify us of it happening. He's not communicating lately. About a month ago his guys ripped out our salt cell and never notified us, I came home to find it on the ground. Then Norlan's response was, I wasn't there when it happened I was out of Town. We had him remodel our pool which he did an amazing job but never cleaned up the epoxy on the tile. And we paid him to repair all the cracks on our existing decking, some not repaired. Or an epoxy mess Left. His finishing work could be better. We had a few mishaps with design and he worked to correct it really well and fair, so he's fair and reasonable. He is pretty honest but when ever there's a problem tends to get defensive, a little annoying. Again great and amazing pool remodeling! His maintenance was good for years but it feels like his attention is on building pools. And maybe that's where it should be. We've had some communication hiccups. You can guess the outcome of empty pool cleaning promises by two kids. So, I called around for a quote. I used Yelp and received several quotes. I went with Norlans for several reasons. They are very professional, and friendly. Most of all, Karla made sure everything she told me happened when, and how she said it would. Extremely dependable, personable, and professional. The difference between this company and the five other pool service contractors is so huge, it's hard to believe they're all in the same business. Norlan's is absolutley, positively the best pool service in the Coachella Valley.
