Good place when your there early in the day and eating there. But if your ordering food ALWAYS check your order guaranteed they messed it up somehow. I have been going for some time and having other people complain it's was not given to then correctly. Now it's happening to me. I ordered the sirloin beet tips with mash potatoes and turnip greens. I got hone and had some kinda ground beef patty with the dressing on it. I called the store and was on hold for 10 minutes then hung up and called back 3x because they were not answering the call. I spoke with someone who said they do beef tips and they are closed. I'm very disappointed and how I was treated I will not go back there ever. I'm big on customer service and I was let down. We tried Norma's this morning for breakfast. The restaurant environment was fun and inviting. The first thing we see is the pie case and they looked yummy. Once we sat down the waitress didn't seem to have a smile so we keep our smiles on. And she didn't pick them up. Oh well. Guess she's having a bad morning. I ordered Norma's breakfast and the wife ordered the ham omelet. We both ordered coffee. Coffee did not taste good. Strong and bitter. 9am on Sunday morning. Would think it would be fresher or they have a brand that doesn't taste good. Wife ordered extra crispy hash browns...-and they didn't come to the table that way. Waitress is still matter of fact so we don't dare ask for this to be corrected. Pancakes were meh. Syrup they use tasted bitter and heavy molasses flavor. Some like that...we didn't. The best of the food was the biscuits. Big thick and fluffy. White gravy tasted out of a quick mix packet and cheap at that. Bottom Line: While it it a nice place to sit with free WiFi , the waitress wasn't making an effort to connect and the food really missed the mark. Price is a little high for the quality of breakfast food. We won't be back. read more

We absolutely love Norma's! This location opened up close to our home, and we were thrilled! We've been three times now, and there's been a problem every single time. The first time, we waited forever to get a table then finally got one and the food was sub-par at best. The second time we went, the noise level was beyond unbearable and the food had not improved. The third time was tonight. We got seated immediately then watched as two other families got seated and served their meals before we finally had to hail down a waitress to see if anyone was going to be taking our drink orders. No one had even come to the table. We finally got up and just left. Suffice it to say, we won't be returning to this location of Norma's ever again. Three strikes you're out. P.S. Love Normas café for many years. I'm glad they put a location here in Plano it's starting to be hard to find good all American restaurants like this anymore..I'm not a food critic I'm just the average Joe.So I can't really tell you how excellent the food is there .good luck On getting a table on the weekends it is packed. Lunch and dinner is also good.... is my grandma in the kitchen??? Used to come here years ago. Thought..boy was that good. Returned tonight but apparently close to closing time. Who thought 7:26PM was late. Now nothing wrong with the food...but the service was a slight problem. We were almost the only patrons. I often split a dinner with my wife. The staff seemed unnerved that I was not ordering. Person (Kimberly) offered an additional side...nope. Server who brought food said..is this all...? Well, ok. But then a party of 6 showed up and four persons attended to their table.No problem again..but to have to almost grab our waitress for water? Seriously. No one else in the place. Then we "wanted" to order dessert. Once again..waitress missing in action. We got her back and she asked if we wanted our check. No we wanted dessert. But she did not bring menus or tell us what they had. So we gave up and took the check. Finally, I went to the counter to pay...Ooops..no one there either. Very apologetic lady took our money...but really. These are the things that make or break a place. Food is fine..but all in all..I would never come at 7:00. They were busy sweeping the floor instead of seeing if there was anything else. They decided we did not want dessert. Oh remember their slogan. Life is short..eat dessert first. Did not live up to Norma's standards. I've been to Norma's in Oak Cliff for over 20 years and love the greasy, home cookin they dish out. When I heard that they opened the Plano location I was excited given this is much closer to home. However, I was very disappointed with my visit. Firstly, our waitress Irma was mostly busy attending other tables so, after a long wait, one of her team members (can't remember your name, but thank you) helped take our order and get our drinks. Not a good start. When we finally got our food, my eggs were cold and my wife's order was wrong.... again our waitress was too busy to check on us so we had to ask other people for help, and get up to go grab extra napkins. I think what is most disappointing is that this poor customer experience is associated with a diner that I have grew up with, and has a reputation of making people feel at home. I went here for breakfast. Ordered the pancakes, sausage and eggs. My eggs were delicious. Very fresh and buttery . The sausage were patties and they were fine. The pancakes were a disappointment. They were kinda dry and didnt have much flavor. My total was around $10. I think I'll come back for lunch. I want to try their chicken fried chicken. read more

Excellent food and service. Plenty of close parking. Their breakfast is terrific and I also enjoy their salads. (Yelp does remove reviews that businesses don't like.) My only minor complaint is they close incredibly early. 8 PM. I've had a steak or a couple of times that I liked, it's not Ruth's Chris but it's still very good. read more

This place is adorable inside. The rolls n cornbread are wonderful. I ordered chili and enjoyed it. My husband got chicken fried steak. It was good, nothing special, he said. The level of noise in there is unbareable for me I could hear the clank of every dish in the kitchen and tables plus the conversations of every patron. I would like to try the food again but I cannot stand the noise. Maybe we'll go at a less busy time of day. read more

Ate there this morning and John and Susan provided excellent customer service. The managers came by to talk with us and were very friendly. The biscuits were amazing and we were very happy with both our orders. Very clean and even though they were very busy we didn't wait very long. Customers that we're leaving complimented the food on their way out so the short wait time was worth the experience. Definitely give this place a try! read more

Ate here with my woman yesterday for breakfast, absolutely awesome food. Staff was great. My lady had a chorizo omelet and she loved it. I had the number 7? I believe it was called. It was a breakfast bowl type dish, gravy and biscuits underneath, topped with hash brown, sausage, cheese, and bacon. It was AMAZING!! Will be back when I return to DFW area! read more

Horrible! After our fiasco of eating here last week, we decided to give them another attempt to redeem themselves. Last Thursday the service was semi-acceptable but we figured there may be issues due to the restaurant just opening earlier in the week. What we were not expecting was the quality of the food to be so horrendous. Fried, smothered pork chops which were fried beyond the point of being edible, sides which were forgotten, and heaven forbid you requested extra gravy. It was like we asked the waitress for her first born!! Smothered pork chops should be just that. Smothered. A smattering of gravy is not smothered. It's a Jackson Pollock painting! Tonight, we arrived at about 5:40 and were immediately seated. There were also about 4 other tables seated around us, all of which were seated after us. Their drink orders were taken, they were given rolls and cornbread, their orders were taken, and we were ignored. At one point a gentleman who I'm guessing was one of the managers stopped by to take our drink order. At that point it seemed as though there was a mad rush for unsweet iced tea because we were told they were out and needed to make more. My other half ordered a sprite which was also apparently out because it also never appeared. Finally at almost 6:00, after being ignored for almost 20 minutes, the manager finally brought out the drinks. By this point I had enough of Norma's shenanigans and we got up and left. I told the manager this was ridiculous. Granted he said he was sorry, but it was much too little, much too late. I think the one thing that frustrated me more than anything was the amount of wait staff who seemed to be wandering aimlessly around the restaurant. Surely one of them would have wanted to make a 20% tip. Apparently not! Sorry Norma's but crappy service and crappy food do not make for pleasant dining experiences. The next time I want to be ignored and eat subpar food, I'll go to Denny's. read more

A trip back into the 50's friendly and welcoming. They serve breakfast all day which I love. I had the western omelet, crispy hash browns and wheat toast. If you are looking for a homemade piece of pie or banana pudding. . . Skip the meal and just go for dessert. Prices are very reasonable and service was good. I would go back again. Tried Norma's for a 2nd time this past weekend. The first time we went in it was near closing and we didn't realize so we took our food to go. (That's another review though) We arrived about 12:30 pm or so on a Saturday afternoon. The place was busy, but we were seated immediately. The menu is pretty standard diner/cafe fair. Mostly "comfort food" (meatloaf, pot roast, chicken fried steak) and breakfast items served all day. We both opted for omelettes. One of us had sausage patties with the omelettes as a side. Our waiter was a bit grumpy. Either he was nearing the end of his shift or was tired or having a bad day. he wasn't really mean or snappish, just seemed he wanted to be somewhere else. Along with our food we ordered two milks to arrive with the meal. We found out once the check arrived that those milks (plain milk, in a glass, nothing fancy) were $5.00 EACH!!! $5.00 for a what is considered a large (it was an average sized glass) of milk? You can buy 2 gallons of milk at the grocery store for that. So to recap, $10.00 for two glasses of milk. Anywho....food arrived. Nothing spectacular. a couple of omelettes with hash browns, the shredded kind. Now, I am all for as much starch and potatoes as I can have, but there were a LOT. It was almost too much. Just saying. Omelettes were okay. I had the veggie without green bell peppers. Other veggies were okay (could have used a little more tomato) but it really could have used more cheese. Not very much there. Regarding the sausage that the other member of our party ordered. The arrived almost incinerated. I mean they were almost the texture and consistency of a hockey puck. So $46 dollars later (I did tip on top of that amount) we have decided we tried Norma's but probably not going back. Nice try folks but.....missed the mark. Sorry. read more

A really good place with Texas decor and super delicious food. We ordered the Big Eater and fried pickles. The portions are large. The service is amazing. Cher Bear took a really good care of us. What can I say about Norma's? was 35 years ago I was a part Leadership Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce and they introduced me at Beltline Road, original Norma's Café. Love the down home country cooking, the sincere friendship of the staff and owner. It was a time that not one count calories and the meatloaf, and the pot roast was worth the drive. The breakfast yum-yum just like your Momma's kitchen, the smell a bacon and hot coffee in those Carrollton crazy cold days prior to the Chambers meeting was a must to stop there. Moved to Plano 17 years ago so learn to swing by Norma's whenever in the area, now yay we have our own Plano's Norma's Café. If you read this and have not yet visited, it something you owe yourselves. read more

Man. I wanted to enjoy this place. The service was great, but it all went downhill pretty quickly. To echo some of the other reviewers - the coffee was terrible. I don't know what's going on there. Burned-tasting and watery and weird. The eggs are pretty clearly from a carton and have that special snot texture that happens when they're not cooked through all the way - fine for an over-easy situation, but not scrambled. The chicken fried steak was a disappointment - gluey batter and bland meat topped with what was supposed to be "cream gravy" but may have passed for paste. I decided to ask for a cinnamon roll to go, thinking that maybe I just ordered The Wrong Thing, or perhaps that it was an Off Day, but it too was hard and stale. How can you make a sweet and wonderful cinnamon roll inedible, guys? :( Our waitress was really nice and so was the host so I honestly feel kind of terrible leaving this review but the food was so awful we will not be back. They use the favor app. This app hasn't work correctly since they started using it. We ordered on 11/3. No options to add to the breakfast items. We ordered a salad with our dinner no options for salad dressing. The rolls where hard. We ordered chicken fried steak and received chicken fried chicken. Dessert was wrong. The driver dropped our food off at the wrong address left it outside in 43 degree weather. We got a hold of favor right after they said they delivered it. I checked several houses and couldn't find it. We finally received our food 25 to 30 minutes after delivery. Yes. It was cold. No answer when we called the restaurant. But it was close to closing. Favor issued a 4.00 credit on our next order. It really sucks to have a restaurant fail. We won't be using favor again. I wish I still had the receipt. It showed chicken fried chicken. But our order online shows chicken fried steak. read more

Our food was great, decent portion sizes as well. The hostess was swift and our waitress was very attentive. The only thing that took my 5 star rating to 1 star, (thus the 3) was the waiter that was reaming a young man in front of everyone in the cafe. The young man might have been a bus boy or host, not sure. He was calling him names and belittling him. The angry waiter looked like he maybe was an assistant mgr or head waiter by the way he was dressed. I understand reprimanding when necessary, however, there's a time and place for it. The dining area during a rush was not appropriate. I honestly felt bad for the kid, and it was sad that the incident overshadowed our otherwise great experience. read more

Where do I begin? The service here is spectacular. Starlight is an amazing server. She knows before I sit down what I want to drink and eat. Her attentiveness to her customers wants and needs is second to none. Jonathan is a sweetie and is my go to when Starlight is not working. Your coffee cup is never empty here. Good coffee with the creamer on the table so you never have to ask. My favorite is the chilaquiles. Fresh pulled chicken nestled in scrambled eggs, cheese, tomatoes, cheese, onions, and jalapeños and tortilla strips. I'm picky so I have a lot of substitutions and those requests are handled without complaint. The portions are huge here! The hash browns are an enormous rectangle of goodness. Their salsa is homemade and zesty. Starlight knows I love their salsa so without asking my bowl o salsa arrives. My meal comes with flour tortillas. This is the only diner I know that heats their flour tortillas on the griddle so that it is warm when it comes with my meal. I have not ventured far from the chilaquiles, however if you are a French toast lover you will be very happy. Get the ham steak people. It is delicious. When I get the French toast the ham is a great accompaniment. Swirl it in the Norma's syrup and you will be very happy. This is my every Saturday spot after my mileage on the Chisholm trail. Let Starlight make you feel special. Jonathan also takes great care of his customers too and Joy makes sure that coffee is plentiful. One day I'll try something else, however the breakfast is hard to beat! I'd give more than 5 stars simply for their outstanding customer service! Luckily, the food is terrific too. read more

Not much to comment on really. Just your ordinary suburban restaurant decorated so as to make believe it's located in some cool bohemian neighborhood and not the cliche location it's actually in -- a boring shopping center just off the freeway. Norma's isn't a chain but this store is trying very hard to look and feel exactly like one. The breakfast foods were good, not great, what you would expect. The biscuits, however, were exceptional. Giant squares of fluffy and moist goodness that melts in your mouth. Service was fine, no complaints. There's two things I do at restaurants that very few people do. One is always pick up the tab and leave a generous tip. The second is to not bother with a menu and just order what I want. I've always thought it was silly agonizing over what to order...just order and be done with it. But there is one benefit the menu provides, and that is to prepare oneself for the cost of the meal you are about to consume as opposed to being caught by surprise at the cash register with a $50 bill. Fifty bucks? For breakfast? For three people? And nobody ordered the crust trimmed finger toast with caviar jam? To be fair my point of comparison for having breakfast are greasy spoons like Waffle House at half the cost. I don't know what's typical for places like this....these business model restaurants...in shopping centers....just off the freeway. read more

Unfortunately I cannot base my review on their food, as we waited over 10 minutes for someone to even take a drink order, and maybe.... just maybe acknowledge that we were even there. After seeing 4 people sat and have their orders taken we decided to leave. Waiting until we are half way out the door to ask if we need help was pretty amusing tho. Been coming here as a weekend breakfast place since August. Jen will always be requested as our server just because of how amazing she is. Now as regulars she knows my step-mom and I's orders and always knows a to go cup is needed with my step-mom. I absolutely adore her and thank her for what a great server and person she is.
