I have beef with the coffee in this place. The food is amazing! But girl why is the coffee so bitter??

Pretty standard brunch experience. We came with a party of 8, which I know is for sure overwhelming and our server did an amazing job at making sure everyone was properly taken care of. I got the Country Fried Steak and generally enjoyed it. Sausage gravy didn't really taste of sausage but was herby and flavorful. Eggs, hash browns cooked perfectly as requested. First time at this location. We previously had eaten at the Frankford Rd. location several times with good experience. We selected this Richardson location for a Father's Day brunch. We were seated shortly after arriving. However, the table was poorly cleaned and used napkins was on the floor beneath the table seating area. I asked the hostess to have the area cleaned so that my family and I can sit down and enjoy our meal. We ordered corned beef hash skillet with pancakes, south border skillet, biscuits gravy with eggs and pancakes. The corned beef hash skillet gets a high mark. The south border skillet was average. The biscuits gravy with eggs and pancakes were cold and it gets a low mark. If we decide to eat at Honey Berry in the future, it will be the Frankford Rd location. read more

The food was great and our pancakes were oh so decadent and tasty! The only reason for 4 stars is that our waitress kept trying to tell us not to get what we wanted. We wanted the full larger size of pancakes and she said at least 5 times we should do the short stack instead. I understand she was tryin to help us and not end up wasting anything but we told her we were taking the leftovers back to our hotel for breakfast the next morning. She also would tell us not to get the flavor we were trying to choose so it took us forever to decide what we wanted because she kept saying "those aren't my favorite" or "that's gonna be too sweet." In town for a 5k and needed to fuel up after, this spot is where we landed for brunch. It's obviously local fav because it was slammed on a Saturday morning. We were seated in a booth right beside the front door, so we had people basically standing on top of us during the visit. The server was pretty on top of things and kept us taken care of on beverages and food orders. I had a two egg breakfast with sausage, a fruit cup and banana nut pancakes. She had the honey berry pancakes with bacon. My meal was tasty, eggs and sausage as expected. Her pancakes were very thick and crumbly, making the experience less than satisfying. We got an iced vanilla latte, the pumpkin pancakes, the chocolate chip banana pancakes, the chorizo chilaquiles, and the south of the border skillet. Both skillets were PERFECT- the chilaquiles have sour cream and are overall a little bit saucier than the south of the border skillet, but they're both equally delicious. As for the pancakes, while good, the chocolate chips are on top rather than throughout the pancakes, but there's ample cream and anglaise to dip each bite into. I always drive by this spot and decided to try it. We got a savory dish and sweet dish and would definitely opt for the savory option. The veggie skillet was the perfect amount to share with someone and was filling without being overly heavy. On the other hand the French toast sticks were not for me. They were deep fried and coated in cinnamon sugar. Personally there was too much oil for me and it was too sweet for me (and I normally have a sweet tooth). I will say the staff was really sweet and the interior was very cute. Just okay. In my opinion, the food portions are exaggerating that it seems like a waste of food. You can easily get half of the portion they serve and get full with that. The food took forever to arrive and was also extremely oily, greasy, and lacks seasoning (even salt). Overall, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't an enjoyable experience either. I visited with a friend and her two children (ages 1 and 2). Our server was very friendly and accommodating, and we were enjoying both our meal and the overall experience. However, toward the end of our visit, we were approached by someone I later learned was a manager, Renee. Renee informed us that she had received complaints about the children. It's worth noting that the restaurant provides highchairs and welcomes families with young children. The kids were behaving like typical toddlers--they were not crying or causing any disruption beyond what would reasonably be expected from children their age. At the time, it was around 2:00 p.m., and the restaurant was not particularly busy, as it was nearing its 2:30 p.m. closing time. What was disappointing was not that a concern was brought to our attention, but the way it was handled. Rather than offering a solution or approaching the situation with understanding, Renee came across as though she simply wanted the children to be quiet for the benefit of other guests. The interaction left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, which unfortunately overshadowed what had otherwise been a very enjoyable meal. We spoke with our server afterward, and she was extremely kind, apologetic, and professional. Oh man, I hate leaving bad reviews but if I am going to call it like I see it, sometimes I am left with no other choice... We were excited to come here. We had seen the place when driving by, read the reviews etc, and wanted to try it for ourselves. For two weeks this place has been on the books. We were so excited when we finally were getting to try them. Entering we liked the ambiance. It was a little loud, but the aesthetics were good. We were immediately greeted and seated. Then a series of awkward waits began. It was about 5 mins before our server showed up. We ordered drinks but were not quite ready to order our food, as it was our first visit and the menu is extensive. We told her we'd be ready when she brought our drinks. That was another 10 minutes, so long in fact she apologized and said she was putting in an order. We ordered our food and waited again. At 35 minutes in, a runner came to our table and we FINALLY got our food. But we could only look at it as we had no silverware, and no server. So, after a few minute wait my wife got up and and found the manager... you'd think things should get better right? Nope, it took just under 5 minutes to get silverware, meanwhile our food began to cool. When the manager finally came back she gave us our silverware and I made a comment that our visit was really off to a rocky start. Before I could give any account of our experience, she just said "sorry" and walked off....we would not encounter her again until after another awkwardly long wait for our bill, when our server had again disappeared and my wife went to find her or the manager, whoever she found first. Let's talk about the food...The food was REALLY good except for the pancakes which were a bit too dried out. Like dried out enough the butter would not even soak into them. Oddly, a place that has "pancakes" in their name served up some dried up, probably under the heat lamp for way too long, crispy pancakes. My omelette though and the accompanying hash browns were delicious! Like normally I would come back for kind of deliciousness! But, service can ruin an experience, and while the kitchen rocked their part of our experience, our server and the manager did not, so before we were even out the door we were saying to each other we do not need to come back. My review for Honey Berry Pancakes is definitely mixed. It's designed and decorated well. In fact, it's very inviting, so I was excited about my first visit here. We were sat immediately upon entering the restaurant, but that's where all the excitement of this placed came to a big halt. Our waitress did stop by fairly quickly, but ever encounter we had with her after this moment was so delayed that me and my husband were getting frustrated. We said we needed a minute to look at the extensive menu, and then it took her 15 minutes get back to us. And that became the constant theme from there on. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, and the gravy is house made. Both were really good. But then they slapped the scrambled eggs on top of them, and there wasn't anything special about their eggs. For me to enjoy restaurant eggs means you have to make them better than what I can do at home, and they just didn't do that. Not at all. I really had super high expectations for this place because it is so adorable and has the cutest decoration ever! I feel like the ambience, the menu, and the actual delivery do not match up. The service was not bad, our server was good and checked on us regularly as well as gave us good recommendations on menu items. I did not have a huge appetite, so I just ordered the gluten-free toast and some coffee which was fine, my toast was actually really good for it being gluten-free bread and the coffee was nothing impressive but it did what it needed to. My husband ordered a biscuit, which was not super fresh which was strange considering we got there within an hour of them opening. He also ordered the cranberry walnut oatmeal, which he did like, they definitely were generous with the cranberries and walnuts, and the oatmeal did come out nice and hot. He also ordered a hot tea, which was really just hot water, they only put one teabag for a whole little teapot, and no matter how long it sat there it was, just hot water. At first, we didn't notice that it was only one teabag until he was halfway done with his food and went to pour his tea and it was still colorless and flavorless, and we saw there was only one bag in the pot. For a pot that size you definitely need two teabags. We left it alone since he was already finishing up and we were ready to go. It is definitely a cute spot, but again, the food expectation for how glamorous it is did not match what was served. My family and I stopped here randomly on a Tuesday after our kids had a doctors appointment. Upon entering, it was a very odd vibe. Very quiet in the lighting was off. Our server was really good though, and the food came out hot and to our liking. I do wish I could have not gotten the cucumbers (I don't remember if they were mentioned on the menu cuz normally I would ask for them to be removed) but I'm just a hater, lol. The service on this day wasn't the best but it was clear something had happened and either they were suddenly short staffed or had an imbalance of inexperienced employees. It took a bit to get our orders placed and they had us all seated in the same section and it got pretty crowded and I kept worrying they were going to hit my moms chair every time they walked by with trays. I've been here twice, and the food has been great both times. I ordered the two-egg breakfast, which came with scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and French toast. The eggs were cooked well done, which I prefer since I don't like runny eggs. I do wish I had added cheese. The bacon was soft rather than crispy, which I like, but you can likely ask for crispy bacon if that's your preference. The hash browns were also not crispy, again exactly how I prefer them. They seemed to have a light seasoning that was excellent, and they were one of the highlights of the meal. The French toast was the only item I didn't care much for. It leaned a bit dry. I don't like soggy French toast either, so I prefer something in between, and this missed that middle ground for me. The restaurant itself was nice and not crowded, which made for a relaxed visit.
