Meh Mediterranean in a daycare setting. Before I even reached the door, the walls of a crying infant arose from a family dining al fresco at Norma's in Cherry Hill. Restless little ones blocked the entry, setting the tone for my overall Saturday evening experience. That Norma's is popular, there can be no doubt. We had no reservations, and felt lucky to snag a table. The place was bustling, servers had their hands full, we were obliged to be patient until ours arrived. I love Norma's menu -- my partner is vegetarian, so Mediterranean works great for us. I went the veggie route as well, starting with a lentil and ckickpea soup that was hot and savory and the high point of my meal. Other appetizers we enjoyed were the spanikopita and the cheese manaeesh, second to none. My veggie skewer was perfectly charred yet light. After such a promising start, then, our entrees came as quite a disappointment. My partner opted for the falafel salad, and while Norma's falafel are indeed superior, the salad was a bit of a mess, too ... wet, diluting the dressing, leaving runny runoff on the plate. But the greatest misfire wss the mixed kabobs entree I ordered. Everything about it was underwhelming -- these are signature items that should be stand+outs, but weren't. The kabobs were just okay, lacking in appeal, resting on a bed of rice that was unremarkable except for how cold it was. I suspect my plate had been held too long. I know they would have fixed it had I asked -- but seriously, I was up to *here* with all the kids. While I was eating, a woman behind me gathered up her gaggle of tots, squeezing out of the way to make room for a baby carriage the size of a Volkswagen. Does Norma's deserve a second chance? Sure. Next time, I'll stick with the appetizers and stay close to my wine glass lest the kindergarteners in my vicinity cause my nerves to fray. read more

Service was okay. Wrote my order down to never get my full order.... Tried the chicken shawarma 3/10. Tried the chicken kabob 6/10. Regular fries 3/10. Garlic fries 6/10. Everything was mid or worse than mid. The mango juice had a slight taste of cardboard. The guava juice was just horrible. Let me just say, i love Norma's. Good food, great customer service and an awesome small business. My favorite dish is the vegan shawarma. Hands down 10/10 every time I have eaten here, which is well over 20 times. I have not found vegan shawarma anywhere else in NJ or any other state thus far. The family who owns the restaurant is personable, friendly and accommodating. They have the recipe to exceptional customer service. Solid option for Mediterranean takeout. We were bringing dinner to a friend's house and placed our order online ahead of time. This restaurant has a separate storefront for takeout (directly next to the dine-in area). They also have a nice market attached. Our dinner was packaged nicely and boxed up efficiently. Kudos for that! Our items included a Gyro combination platter, the Beef Shawarma wrap, the grilled chicken with garlic toom, and an order of chicken fingers and french fries. We also ordered a side of spicy french fries. Everything was prepared nicely, and everyone enjoyed their selection. There were very few slices of marinated lamb for the Gyro combination platter, though. I was hoping for a little more, but what I received was very delicious. Middle Eastern food is good for carnivores and vegans alike. So when we needed to feed a family with both, Normas delivered. My family loves Middle Eastern food, so this was a crowd pleaser. Made a reservation by phone for my big group. We ordered a lot of food to share. I don't think they were ready for the chaos of my group, but they managed us well. They even let us bring a birthday cake, put it in their refrigerator, brought it out with candles lit, and cut/served it for us. That was really above and beyond what I expected. The hummus with fuul was delicious. I also loved the cucumber yogurt soup. We all loved the tabbouleh and the falafel. The chicken shawarma was also a hit. Some folks went to the market next door to buy more food to take home. In addition to hummus, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, and other naturally vegan items, they have vegan shawarma and moussaka. I'm kicking myself for not having stopped by sooner! Long time CH staple and the same family that used to run my favorite spot Bitar's in S Philly. Everything was freaking delicious and reasonably priced. We BYOB'd and had tons of leftovers to take home. Even better, they have an amazing renovated market next door with all kinds of unique Mediterranean food items, treats, and where you can order take-out from the restaurant too. Very disappointed with our experience today at Norma's Restaurant in Cherry Hill. Three of us went there around 1:57 PM and ordered 5 items between 3 of us -- Garlic Spicy Fries, Harira Soup (bowl), Falafel Sandwich, Mediterranean Salad, and Vegan Lahmajoun. It was more than enough food for all 3 of us. When we politely asked for 2 extra empty bowls so we could share the soup, the server came back and told us that the Normar's owner said f that there will be a $4 "service charge" just for 2 empty bowls ( cost of soup was $8 ). We were shocked. We have never experienced something this unreasonable at any restaurant. When I asked to speak with the owner, the server refused . so then when we asked where on the menu these charges were mentioned. After that, they finally brought the empty bowls on the table i was very confused at that point so i asked server if we can talk to the owner obviously owner convinetly got super busy and never came out !!!!!!! To make matters worse, they also charged 75 cents for extra tahini, which was also not clearly mentioned anywhere on the menu. Customers should absolutely be informed upfront about these surprise charges or please clearly mentioned on menu. We have been loyal customers of Norma's for the past 14 years, but after today's experience, we will never return. It was not about the money -- it was about the attitude, embarrassment, and poor customer service. The sad part is, after all this, we still tipped the server 27%. Please be very careful and ask upfront about any extra charges before ordering at this restaurant. read more

I got take out for lunch and was very excited to try this place because I love Mediterranean food. I got the chicken, lamb, and beef kofta kabobs over rice and a side salad. The falafel salad was refreshing and good but lacks falafel. The main course was a little disappointing. The platter was 75% rice. I deliberately ate the protein first with a few scoops of rice to accompany each bite and I was left with so much rice. Normally this is a great thing but I was still hungry and I did not just want to eat spoonfuls of rice. I wish the protein portion was a bit more especially for the price I was paying. My lunch was around $28 which was quite pricey for what it was. The service and speed of the order was timely at least and the ambiance of the take out area was nice. I wouldn't come back here for the food but the market area had some unique and tasty snacks! read more

I'm going to be completely honest and say this was not my first choice restaurant the night we were there. I had wanted to go to a Greek restaurant for our anniversary but it was closed. Mediterranean was the "next best thing". Well, it turned out to be a great choice. The food was delicious. Lots of vegetarian options and great service. The restaurant is small but cute. Nicely decorated which made it a little more special. We checked out the little Mediterranean grocery next door after dinner. We will definitely be back. We'd heard it was very popular for dinner, so we went at 5pm on a Friday and there was only one other couple there. Our order was taken immediately and it didn't take long to arrive. My wife loved her Falafel sampler, but I was far less enamored by the Gyro platter I'd ordered. The Gyro itself looked pretty sad, with an anemic amount of shawarma, hardly any Tzatziki sauce or lettuce, but yet a mountain of onion, wrapped in a pathetically tiny, ultra thin pita. The meat was tasty enough but really that's all there was to savor. Thankfully we'd ordered the Flatbread sampler, which was quite delicious and featured a variety of three flatbread types (Za'atar manaeesh, cheese manaeesh and lahmajun). The latter, with lamb, was a standout. The guava juice I'd ordered was also superb. Service was excellent but not personable and nobody seemed to noticed that I'd eaten only half of the tiny Gyro. Ambiance is quite nice. If we went back I'd definitely order something different but really, a good restaurant should only put items on the menu that they're good at preparing. read more

Hiring one waitress to serve the whole dining room is a bad business plan. The most important aspect for diners is good service; where you are acknowledged upon entering and made to feel welcome and seen and respected. My husband and I felt invisible at this place. It would have been nice if someone would have come to our table and said "we will be with you soon" or "we are very busy but we will take care of you." Additionally, when we complained about the service, the manager argued with us and claimed that we didn't wait that long, and it was basically our fault for expecting good service. We have purchased a lot of take out food from Norma's over the years and it's pricey but excellent. But this last visit in the restaurant itself was a very negative experience. Quick heads up -- definitely reserve a table ahead of time! Normas is super popular and you'd have a hard time getting seating otherwise. We were walk-ins and lucked out getting a small table by the window, but had our party been any bigger, we would've definitely be waiting a lot longer. For the record, it was absolutely worth the wait. I still think about that moussaka! So decadent, savory, and fragrant. The layers and texture were perfect. Our falafel appetizer was piping hot and delicately crisp on the outside. The ambience of the restaurant was also really nice in the evening, with the setting sun filling the space with glittering golden light. And the staff were so cordial! The chef and owner also came out to say hello and inquire after new and familiar guests. Overall, a very warm atmosphere and delight to dine in. I ordered takeout from here using online ordering, and my husband and I tried a bunch of different items. We ordered a small (it comes in the 8oz plastic container size) each of the hummus, baba ghanouj, and labni, the spanakopita, garlic fries, 2 chicken gyros, pistachio baklava, and a large order of the pita (I chose Cedar, not for any particular reason or familiarity with either pita brand they offer). All of the food was about $60 which I found really reasonable overall. The baklava was only 2 bites' worth though for $4- delicious but pricey for one piece. The small starters lasted us as apps for 3 meals as the portion size was plenty for the two of us. We enjoyed everything except for the pita (prefer it to be thicker and chewier), but still wished we lived closer so we could order from this place consistently as we love mediterranean food! read more

I had mixed kabab sampler (chicken, lamb and kibbe) which were very good. Felafal mazzeneh appetizer, which is new, is a flatbread covered with a chopped salad, tahini dressing and tiny felafels around the edge. Highly recommended and I think it's vegan. Fattoush salad is also really good. The mini grocery store, which is the next store front around the side has good prices. What a fantastic first experience! Family owned and operated Mediterranean restaurant hidden in plain sight along Rt 70. From the outside, it's a strip mall. From the inside, it's a cozy, warm and inviting space. The food was incredible with my wife and I trying the Sampler for apps. The stuffed grape leaves were spectacular with everything on the plate being very fresh. For entrees, we had the Moussaka (delicious!) and mixed kabobs of chicken, lamb and ground beef (so good!). For dessert, we shared the Pistachio Burma, which was very flavorful but intentionally and traditionally a little dry. I will try the baklava on the next visit. Lets see: Great ambience? Check. Inside was very clean, and the outside was spotless. No rickety, wobbly tables here! Excellent service? Check. Our multiple servers were on it. One asked us if it was our first time there, bringing us things to sample from the kitchen, and even made an on the fly adjustment for us when we couldn't decide between baba ghanoush or hummus? (why not BOTH?!) Delicious food? You bet your sweet ass. The baba and hummus were great. The fries cooked golden brown and tasted hot and fresh. The chicken swarma sandwich was PACKED with flavor; (if I have to nit pick, it was a smidge small by our fat american standards. They probably did me a favor...eh.) The Mediterranean salad was fresh and flavorful. They even have apple juice for my little one, so they will DEFINITELY be my go to when I'm feeling like mispronouncing "gyro" in the future. They EVEN do the European thing where they bring the register TO THE TABLE, instead of take your card to the back! That gets them a whole star on its own! A great, great early dinner. I've been to Norma's 3 times now. The first time the takeout was soggy but tasted decent. The 2nd time it was delicious but soggy so I noted to ask for sauces on the side next time. The hummus is made in house and is the best and freshest I ever had. They also give you slices of pita to eat with it. The baklava is to die for but it's $4.95 for a very small piece. A small container of hummus was $6 but worth it. Our chicken pita wraps were $11.99 and I think they were a little pricey for what you received. It seems to be hit or miss with the meat being overcooked/dry. On my third visit I asked for my sauce on the side which was smart so it wasn't doggy but then they didn't listen to the rest of my directions for takeout. They forgot items and the chicken was burnt. The service was quick since I ordered ahead and there's a pickup area/store connected to the restaurant with lots of goodies but extremely overpriced even considering inflation. I asked for one pita with just chicken and they charged $11.99 which was highway robbery. I think this is the type of place to eat in rather than take out. Just be prepared to drop sons major $$$$. read more

This place is a local classic to me! The food is just so delicious and unique since I don't frequently eat this cuisine. I can get pretty filled on some of the cheaper dishes and I'm satisfied always. I started going here during the pandemic and I'm very pleased. The staff are consistently friendly and a pleasure to work with. However, I wish they would use their beautiful outdoor section to allow outdoor dining. It looks like it has new paint, it has shades to keep the sun from ruining your meals, and they have outdoor ceiling fans. It would just be such a nice experience to eat there. As far as dishes I recommend, it would be the stuffed grape leaves, sfiha, spanakopita, and of course the baklava! The shawarma sandwich is also quite good. Again, great prices for great food. Another great meal at this cozy, family-owned Cherry Hill institution. Service is always prompt and the staff is happy, upbeat, and accommodating. Nice menu with tons of vegetarian options for those who need them. Food always looks good, tastes good, and served at the right temperature. Service speed is fine, but it seems that the kitchen is too small or understaffed to be able to get food out when the place is busy - there is room for improvement there. It's possible to have a small meal, but at least when I started listing out what I want, I end up with food for days. My must-haves are their hummus, the baklavas, the lentil soup, and some sort of gyro (either sandwich or platter). I was able to make a same day reservation. We sat in the corner so it was nice and intimate. Servers were super friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I cannot have dairy. MANY dairy-free options on menu from appetizers, meals, and desserts! The food was served in a timely manner, but spaced out enough to give us time. Ingredients were fresh. Mint iced tea was wonderful. Authentic food. I have ordered take-out before, and the food holds up well even for leftovers the next day. The little market next door has some great finds.
