Norm's has changed hands. My experience today was sophomoric at best. Pulled up to door "out to lunch" sign on the door. Waited for Chris to come in, as he was the only one knowing what to do. Chris came in. The youngster minding the store, didn't have a clue got my credit card and put it on his phone, a first time for me. Took a very long time. My ex bought a new chip/remote key for her car since the old case is literally falling apart and the key is worn out, but I didn't trust the local home improvement stores to have the expertise to cut such keys correctly even though Ace Hardware already stated they could do it. Instead I chose a professional locksmith, but my experience suggested anything but professionalism. First, the woman running the shop said she can't cut the key because it doesn't fit the machine. I'm surprised a locksmith doesn't have the equipment to cut modern car keys. I asked for a small eyeglass-size screwdriver and after some searching I spotted a Philips jeweler's screwdriver which I used to separate the remote portion from the key portion. It fit the machine so she proceeded to cut the key, but at a pace that caught my attention having cut hundreds of keys myself in the past when working in maintenance and construction. When I got home I was able to turn the key in the ignition, barely. A pass across my wire wheel smoothed out the rough edges left behind by the hurried cutting process, but in her haste she didn't properly seat the shoulder of the new key against the cutting machine stops, so the key does not work when fully inserted since the bitting is offset in relation to the shoulder. I have to insert it, then pull it back slightly to make it turn, which is going to cause damage to my ignition cylinder if I keep trying to turn the key while it's fully inserted out of habit. As such I've wasted the cost of the key cutting and the replacement key since it's now useless. I should have taken it to Ace Hardware. Instead of offering to replace the key and cut it properly, or even refund the money I paid them, their response was to make excuses and hide behind the old "I've been doing this for X years". First they questioned why I didn't cut the key myself since I have experience. I didn't because the equipment was always provided by my employers. Next they claimed I was in a bad mood when I entered the shop. An assumption they apparently based on the fact I was wearing a mask. I was not in a bad mood, and in fact in a pretty good mood since I was finally able to get a new key for the car. I was wearing the mask because my ex was recovering from COVID19 and I didn't want to put anyone else at risk. Their next excuse was to claim the "cheap" key my ex purchased was at fault, but it's made of the same material, fit the door and ignition cylinders perfectly since the warding was correct, and the overall dimensions were the same compared to the original key, including the distance between the tip and shoulder. Regardless, none of these excuses justify poor quality workmanship. read more

The storage shed lock wasn't functioning, Chris fixed, it and also rekeyed it and the front door for $65. Let me start at the beginning. My daughter's key fob was broken at the top and we feared she would lose her key, so we ordered a replacement off of Amazon. I took the key to another business in PV, to have it cut and it did not work. The key was not even close to the original. I went to Norm's to see if by chance they could fix it. The sweet woman, I'm going to guess the owner... was helping some other folks. She came over and asked me what she could help me with. I told her my story and she said how did they do that? Let me see what I could do to fix the key. She literally had the key for about 20 seconds, then said here ya go all fixed. I was amazed!!! I asked how much it would cost, and she said nothing... Merry Christmas. The key works perfectly and I am so thankful for her and so appreciative. I will now only take my business to them, and I will recommend them to everyone I know. read more

Called on the 6th to have 3 locks re-keyed in Prescott, they could not get to us until the 11th between 9 to 10am. We drove up from Phoenix so we can be here for the appointment, only to receive at call at 9:20 am from Jody, that Chris could not make the appt and she could not remember what the job entailed, seriously... She said he could be here from 10 to 11am but we have other appt's scheduled. It is so frustrating that my job was not deemed as important as what he is already working on. While I have no complaint on their services, which I HAVE used in the past, this review is due to an experience I had in their parking lot. I was parked in front of the business next door, reading through a book when a women from Norm's came out and asked me what I was doing. She caught me off guard, and I told her I wasn't really doing anything but the business next-door had caught my eye and I pulled in to take a look. They weren't supposed to open for another hour or so, and I was waiting there for them to open. She told they didn't have enough parking to begin with, and told me to leave. She didn't ask, but told me. She was very rude and unprofessional, and lost the place my business for good. It's a shame that such a rude ignoramus took it upon herself to tarnish this place's reputation, at least in my eyes. Our realtor used them for a "gift" of changing our keys. It was like he/the remote person wanted to prove how quickly he could do it. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. I drove in for more copies, and Jody cut all four copies at once. Only three worked: and one of them catches on the front security door. Excuse after excuse when I called to request credit for one, and after explaining a long drive, why I chose them for the copies,... Jody hung up on me. (Can't issue a credit without the card. (Really?) (I had explained "reason I went to you a locksmith instead of ACE Hardware store or Walmart was for assurance all the copies would work.") While I was talking to my credit card company, Jody called me back and became abusive verbally: "didn't know what business you have ever been in ...", "don't call the credit card company"..., I hung up on her. Shoddy work, and nasty rude behavior. No business should call you attacking you personally and then to become verbally abusive! I recommend you STAY AWAY FROM THEM. read more
