An oldie, but a goodie. One can never tire of soul food on a cold rainy day. Not only did this place bring back memories of my clubbing days, but it fulfilled a void that only an AB could. This is the original AB, do not let anyone tell you otherwise. It swung open its doors back in 1950, while its competitor down the road, four years later. This place's success is owed to it remaining true to itself. It makes all its own sauces, and is flexible to cater to customer's requests. If you want to concoct something weird and wonderful that only in your drunken stupor would comprehend and appreciate, then go hard. Pricepoint, they are also one of the most competitive around. The friendly and knowlegeable staff also helps. A classic worth checking in every now and again.

I'm going to have to be honest here - back in the days when we were wandering around North Adelaide looking for a bite to eat, it we tended to prefer the Blue and White cafe as opposed to the North Adelaide Burger Bar (otherwise known as the red and white). It was then that I first learnt about the AB, however my knowledge of this Adelaide delicacy (if you want to call it that) had been sitting at the back of my mind until I found myself back here much more recently. Anyway, I wanted to revisit the North Adelaide Burger Bar of my youth, and I have to admit very little has changed. In fact this place looks like it is still the same as it was back in the 90s - right down to the fact that they don't have an eftpos machine (and the day they get one is probably going to be the day this place will never be the same again). The Burger Bar is a classic take away shop, right down to the video games in the back room. However if you want to try something different, try the AB - it's an experience.

Took this beast home...best decision ever!

Q: Are you drunk or hungover? If the answer is a resounding "YES I AM / WAS COMPLETELY HAMMERED!!!" then proceed to North Adelaide Burger Bar. If the answer is "No, I can't even recall the last time I even considered shotting tequila" then maybe you should just keep on walking, yeah? North Adelaide Burger Bar is renowned for being the home of the original AB (probably best not to ask...) - a concoction of chips, yiros meat, garlic and tomato sauce. Sounds gross? You're probably not in the target market for this joint. It's pretty old school - the menus and signage probably haven't been updated for a decade or two, and the dust bunnies hiding behind the arcade games have probably been hiding for just as long...but don't let that put you off! If you're after an AB or a yiros - or even, if you dare, a deep fried mars or snickers, this may be the place for you! The yiros here is okay - not mind blowing, but not terrible, and at certain times, that's all you can hope for. Come for the AB, stay for a yiros and have a go at the car racing games, leave because...well, it's probably a good idea not to stay too long - you might end up with a photo on the wall that could come back to haunt you for years to come!

Cute little place, perfect amount of seating, good prices, I decided I was epicly hungry, so I ordered the Berenburger, which was a beef patty, beetroot, egg, bacon and heck knows what other goodness but it was huge, I need spice so added chipotle to my burger. Sweet potato fries with aioli always a must anywhere on the side... Then my epic burger arrived, half way through eating it I realised the chipotle chilli's were actually sundried chipotles, they were the tastiest mini mouth explosion ever. It made the whole burger. The meat was not over cooked, no gristle, no junk, it was smooth and full of flavour. The only reason i removed one star is because when a franchise or a business has another location the other location should match in quality and a week after visiting this site i needed my hit and went to the Magill one and things just weren't the same. Final note: If there is a chilli option, no matter what it is, hot sauce, chilli's whatever, always opt to add it!

I got the mushroom burger with a fat juicy panko-crumbed portabello advertised ($8.70). When it arrived I was surprised as to how small the burger was. It was delicious but I was left wanting more! My partner I think ordered the cheeseburger ($8.70) and again it was a small serving. considering the price we paid we were expecting a lot more size-wise Our Royale fries were messed up, we were given a basket of chilli cheese fries, then the Royal Fries came out - we only paid for one basket and I was afraid someone missed out. The cheese tasted super processed, floury and we couldnt eat them, they were not pleasurable at all. Note that the cheese makes the fries soggy and you have to eat them with a fork. Less cheese would be more, perhaps? I heard the new store on Glen Osmond road is a lot better, but a little out of our way to try. Make the burgers bigger and we'd be happier!

Best of all, they realize you can't eat a proper burger without getting a little messy, so provide a large sink station at the far end of the bar, allowing you to clean yourself up before moving on. Highly recommended.

I'm getting my braces tightened (meaning I'll be a bit sore soon) so this burger was kinda like my Last Supper. My happiness was riding on the quality of this meal.... I was not disappointed! I ordered the Republic burger which comes with house sauce, beef, tomato, lettuce and red onion for a reasonable $10. I added cheese, beetroot and egg for $1.50 each, because I love me some egg and beet root on a burger! My boyfriend ordered the Special of the Week which was the Tradie Burger. Heaven in my mouth. The buns are soft and fresh, the meat juicy, the flavours fantastic and the fries golden. I love soft, squishy burgers and these hit the spot. Served on wooden boards with a side of fries ($3.50 extra) the serving size was pretty generous! I am nursing a burger baby as I type. My boyfriend felt like it was a perfect amount - not too scrawny and not too massive. My stomach disagrees...I won't be eating anything else today that's how full and satisfied it is! Overall the service was friendly and it was pretty busy for a late lunch on a Tuesday but we weren't waiting too long. Will definitely be going back. So far this place is the TOP burger place for me in Adelaide!

The one time we hadn't was from 1 individual, which she may have been new, but really didn't know customer service, but you have to let that slide, because it was 1 individual 1 time. I like the space they have, and the big share tables, a lot more place to get a seat than Nordburger, and they have a great range of craft beer and softies. Now to the crux of it, the burgers. Solid burgers. Is it the one meal I want to eat before I die? Probably not. Is it a go to when I feel like a very decent burger at a very decent price? Yes!! They are solid solid burgers. The fries and onion rings - also very legit. A massive shout out to the range of sauces you can choose from the wall. Legit.
