Plan to spend 1/4 to 1/2 of your day there. They are constantly running behind, ill-prepared, and they seemly need to address "emergencies," all the time. If that's the case, then become an emergency clinic and don't offer scheduled visits. My husband took our two German Shepherds in at 9:30am for medication for one of their ears, and a Bordatella shot. He is still there three hours later. Meanwhile I'm trying to call them on the phone and have been on hold for 10min. The practice is poorly run, super hot in their small stuffy rooms, and just a crap-hole. We live in Royal Palm Estates and were looking for a vet for quick services because our dogs are super-healthy. This is definitely not it. I'll make the drive to better run clinic. FYI, still on hold while I'm writing this and my husband still can't seem to get anyone to come back to the exam room he has been in for 3hrs. What a joke. read more

Beware!!! You do not want to bring your birds here. Very upset with everything I experienced with this vet. I brought my beautiful (never sick a day in her life) Quaker to this Avian vet because my little girl was Egg bound. When I first arrived they put me in a room and tell me the doctor would be right in. A woman came in, took one look at my bird and told me my bird was in prolapse. She told me this was very bad and there's not much they can do. I said are you sure I was told that she is just egg bound? She said well she could be that too. Let me look. She took my bird and begins to look with a Q-tip in side her to see what the problem is. She then says to me oh yes, she is just egg bound not prolapsed. She tells me she is not the avian doctor, she is her assistant, but she's been doing this for 13 years so she will handle my bird. They took my bird to the back and said they would be back shortly with an estimate. When they came back in, they gave me an estimate for $2200!!!! I told them that that is ridiculous and I don't have that kind of money. They asked me what I could afford I said maybe $700. They left the room and magically came back with an estimate that was now $780. They said that included keeping my little girl overnight. I agreed and I left planning on returning in the morning to see the actual vet. Within 30 minutes, I received a phone call that my girl had passed her egg. Then 15 minutes later I received a phone call that my bird had died. I talked to quite a few bird owners and breeders about my situation and my bird that was egg bound for less than 24 hours should not have died. Very suspicious. I do not hold them responsible for her death because I could never know what actually killed her. But I certainly do not feel a vet assistant was the proper hands for my bird to be in. To top off this horrible story I have now gotten a copy of the bill. This company had the nerve to charge me $70 for hospitalization 24 hours for them caring for my bird for less than an hour. When I questioned them, they couldn't care less! Absolutely Shameful!!! Unfortunately, there are so many vets out there that are just interested in making money from vulnerable pet owners. Praying on people who would do anything to save their baby! In my opinion, this is one of those places. Trust me, avoid them like the plague. read more

bait and switch operation. paid $524 for prelim blood tests prior to surgery on an umbrella cockatoo. when I arrive the cost of the surgery went from $830 to $1158 with nothing changed. They offered to do it for $888 but then recanted. I walked out in disgust due to the lack of professionalism. I am out the $524 which I had previously paid for the blood work because the original cost of surgery was not honored. not mention the several hundred $$ previously paid for fees and office visits. steer clear of this place, I was totally reasonable and was ready to pay the extra add on from $830 to $888 but the $1158 was too much to bear. I felt like I was at a bad used car dealer. This is very bad behavior a total rip off feigning care and concern for you pets. very low character. To be succinct, they have increasingly become focused more on making money than on honest pet care. This is the 5th pet of ours they're cared for, two of which I actually removed from their care to a different practice after finding the vets here not trustworthy for heart disease treatment and cancer diagnosis. Unkind, insensitive personnel during a euthanasia caused another such departure. Quality has been inconsistent over many years, in my opinion, But, basic care should be ok, I thought. Today was the last straw, and I'll never go back. After a brief pet exam, a tech presented me with a $2700+ estimate, including hydration and vitamin shots that the vet gave no justification for as she clearly admitted my dog is not dehydrated or vitamin deficient. Estimate included apparently contradictory treatments without explanation. The list also included several items that the vet had said MIGHT be recommended IF a certain test outcome were obtained, but they remained in my charges. The vet vaguely alluded to a possible health issue without any explanation from the exam, except "something doesn't sound right"-- but this vet was not able to explain her clinical rationale, despite our being quite familiar with the medical vocab. Lots of costly, *potentially* necessary items. Once I looked through and signed off on what my husband and I understood to be actually needed and reasonable, the approved written estimate was whisked away. I don't like to pay for meds and procedures that are speculative and might only be required AFTER a test indicates a need. Thus, I was dismayed to see things on the final bill which were not even to be provided or performed unless testing revealed it necessary. And moreover, for the first time, I was told to pay for ALL in advance, even though I have never never failed to pay in full upon picking up my pet. I expect services to be rendered before a bill presented, but policies have apparently changed. I will add there was a battle to even get a copy of the estimate we actually authorized, which I had to request from the desk and vet tech FOUR TIMES! This struck us as ridiculous. Finally, aside from dubious recommendations and advance-charging, the vet herself has such an incredibly loud and piercing voice, as she clumsily tried to explain and justify her recommendations, that I found myself covering my poor pet's ears, and we wanted to cover our own. Ugh, tone down that volume, Dr T! You gave me a headache. All evidence indicates this is an older practice, which is apparently trying some sneaky stuff and struggling to survive...but not on my dime! I've been taking my pets here for a year now. Prices at the last check up visit was astronomical. They offered me their Petly plan, didn't give me all the information, and then denied me service following me cancelling my Petly plan. I lost out on hundreds of dollars and the way they presented that I couldn't bring my pets here to get treated anymore was poorly unprofessional. I needed an antibody test for a rescued healthy chicken to verify she wasn't carrying contagious illness. I was informed they required an exam to administer the test. (I neither needed or wanted) but before exposing my flock to potential latent disease, I agreed. They performed the exam and gave me a report- she is healthy (which I knew) and an estimate of over $500. I said I only wanted the blood test, but approved a vitamin B shot to boost her energy and immune system. I remitted $250 (wow, but what else could I do- they had me). 15 days later and (3 inquiries by telephone) and I finally got a text telling me the test can take 10 days . I called and spoke to Alex who agreed with my doubt that the test sample would be reliable after so much time. They refunded the test cost, but refuse to refund the needless exam I was extorted into getting on my healthy chicken. Paris was being kept separate during the overdue results- and was attacked by a predator- she died. I do NOT recommend this vet- money -is all they care about, not the pet. read more

We used to take our dogs here years ago but moved so we didn't go back. We recently decided to go back to this location because their prices are decent and they have $5 rabies on certain days! Make sure to call and ask when and set an appointment for it. We had an appointment for two of our dogs here during the corona virus and had an amazing experience! They had us check in and wait in the car until they were ready for us. That took a bit but no big deal. From what I remember wait times are sometimes long. Then they took our dogs in without us. Exam was an average wait time. Got our dogs their shots and exam. The dogs also got their nails trimmed during their exam. We will definitely be coming back here. read more

After calling about 15 vets in the area - no one would take my dog for an emergency (everyone kept sending me to Blue Pearl, which I get but I wanted to establish her somewhere and have been trying since I adopted her) as a new pet/client (I rescued my pup about 2 months ago) this place came to the rescue. I called and they originally told me a couple weeks out and when we explained our situation they got us in right away - literally right away. Reasonably priced, staff was great and explained everything and answered all my questions. They didn't keep her until I paid, they let us wait together while we figured things out and she had her tests done. Nice small grassy meeting area for the pups and techs. So happy we finally found our new vet Thank you for caring about my pet would no one else would, real animal lovers. Let me start by saying, finding an avian vet is difficult to begin with. But finding one in a serious emergency, in panic mode, is brutal. These ladies got me in same day (within 30 minutes of me calling), on a Saturday, and saved my conure. Even when I was not easy to deal with- (panicking, bitchy, freaking tf out). Don't listen to the other reviews (that's what originally caused me to freak out and have doubts while i was there), these ladies are all phenomenal. This place is HORRIBLE!! I came in here for a rabies shot and a note to say that she has one for an airline. I called ahead and they said I don't need an appointment and that I didn't need to get my dog an exam. I get there and for an hour the manager is going back and forth with me on how I need to pay for the exam and extra for the doctor to sign a paper saying that they gave her a rabies shot. Finally I my dog got her shot and they never gave me a new certificate or even the record of it until I explicitly asked for it. Getting anything is like pulling teeth here! ALL THEY WANT IS MONEY. I drive 30 minutes each way to use this facility because they have proven time and again I can trust my baby to them. never once have I felt, "rubbed the wrong way,". nor have I ever felt my girl wasn't receiving great care here. it's really a huge relief knowing I can trust the -entire- staff here. I hate writing this but I hope it helps the next person. I would not recommend North Central animal Hospital. My personal experience was devastating. I've lived in the Slope area for over 25 years and I took my rescue Chihuahua Lee Lee there for most of her life. One day while bathing Lee Lee she caught her nail in the drain and it started to bleed so I took her to North Central Animal Hospital . They told me this was common and said they could patch her up but needed to keep her because the doctor was unavailable and I couldn't come in because of Covid. So I had no choice but to leave her. They later called and told me they had patched her up no problem but asked if they could trim her nails. Seeing that it was Lee Lee's veterinarian and they were aware of her heart murmur and her delicate age, I agreed. Soon after I received a call and was told that while a tech was trimming her nails she had a heart attack on the table and they were trying to keep her alive but I had less than 15 minutes to get there to say goodbye. She went from she's fine you can pick her up but we'd like to trim her nails for $25 to she's dead, come say goodbye. Unfortunately I did not make it and she was gone. I did not know commission was made on upgrades and additional sales, and for this reason I feel they were over aggressive for $25. When I finally got to see her I saw how short and raw her nails were, I can't imagine how terrified she was. I would NEVER take my animal to North Central Animal Hospital. I'm still sick with guilt about it. She didn't deserve to go that way. read more

I observed my 17 tear old Moluccan cockatoo holding her left wing away from her body and, carefully palpating it, discovered a large lump on the chest wall and the wing likely being broken at the shoulder. I took her down to North Central Animal Hospital, a 2-hour bumpy ride, and had to fill out 6-7 pages of questions regarding her history. After an hours wait, an employee of the clinic came out and handed me a clipboard of tests I had to consent to being done for her to be treated: on page two of four, I stopped reading after the charges for the tests exceeded $4700. "She's a bird with a broken wing. Why can't you do your job and treat the injury?" After waiting another 3 hours, 38 minutes, they finally took my cockatoo inside. I had to authorize ~$2200 work of tests, nearly $1000 in vet fees, several hundreds of dollars in lab fees, more for anesthesia, more for X-rays, more for pathology. Following that physical and financial trauma, we had to drive home and back again the next day, awaiting test results. A cancerous tumor had infiltrated her left lung sacs and rotted the bone in her shoulder. She was dying, no hope of recovery without agonizing days passing for her. I authorized giving my precious companion a fatal drug overdose. It couldn't be done that day, so I had to drive another 4 hours to have her put to sleep the next day. I've been a medic, trained for combat medicine; I was once an operating room technician and have worked in a trauma hospital emergency room, seen and helped treat countless patients who died of traumatic accidents and/or wounds; I've tended to skiers who'd fallen significant distances, stabilized broken arms and legs, horrific lacerations; stopped at auto accidents and tended to badly injured motorists -- and resented that I couldn't be with my darling companion in her last conscious moments, having raised her from the minute her beak first poked through her egg. I wanted to be with her to comfort and console her in her last moments but couldn't because "...it's just not our policy." I made my experience known to first one technician, then another, then another, and finally a vet: I wanted to comfort and console my good friend and companion of 17 years in her last moments: I owed her that. I would not relent, and finally was given permission to be with my baby -- who was clearly traumatized by her rough treatment the previous two days. When we were given access to be with her, she'd already been sedated then anesthetized: she was completely unresponsive. She was jabbed with a syringe in the neck and put to sleep. This practice isn't about healing pets and comforting owners: it's about avarice and greed by people in a big hurry, a lot of inexperienced kids with a diploma who think they know more and know it better than those who dedicate their lives to intelligent animals that feel fear, terror, pain, and trauma -- but might profit from having a loved one hold, comfort, and talk with them in their last moments. The final straw came when, driving home, I got a message from the clinic wanting to know how my pet was doing after treatment. Heartless, and cruel. read more

It's a no from me dawg. After coming here a few times, I learned wait times are long. And they find ways to upcharge on the wellness plan. But one thing I appreciate is that They Always text the following day to find out if the dog is OK. The dog usually is and I respond with a "thanks so much for checking in" and they respond with "hey, let us know if you need anything". Today the dog is actually not OK and I told them that. And I asked them what I should do and they have ignored me. The vet techs are real nice. I have never met the vet so I am guessing that might be the source of the grift. Check previous reviews. I am so happy to have discovered N Central Animal Hospital after my dog got very sick on a Friday night. I was happy to find a normal vet that was open on the weekends! Everyone was so helpful. My dog was having trouble walking and the entire staff helped get us into a room and make my baby comfortable. The vet tech, Rochelle was amazing and a great bedside manner. On the advice of a friend, I decided to try North Central Animal Hospital. Thanks to the knowledgeable staff, my puppy's issues have been solved and he is doing much better. On my first visit, I did have a long wait, but the staff explained to me that there had been an unexpected emergency and they would be with me as soon as they could. They were very apologetic and because the reason was explained to me, I had no issue with waiting. When I saw the doctor, she took her time examining my puppy and asked questions about his past health and treatment. She listened to any issues and concerns I had and addressed them appropriately. The tech who assisted was very friendly and took the time to explain all treatment options and prices. The pricing was appropriate and I never once felt like I was being bamboozled. Treatment options were presented to me in a clear and well-understood manner. My pet received the treatment he needed along with some routine vaccinations and medications. After the visit was over, the staff kept in touch by sending texts to check up on my puppy and making phone calls to discuss lab results. I wasted a lot of time and money with a previous clinic trying to figure out what was wrong with my pet and the staff at North Central Animal Hospital fixed his problem in one visit. I am so relieved and thankful that he is doing better and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their services to family and friends looking for a dependable place to treat their pet. read more

I first called because they had low-cost rabies shots, but I will definitely be bringing all three of my dogs here from now on! Originally scheduled an appointment for two shots but they squeezed the third one in for me while I was there, not to mention they are willing to give me advice over the phone when I call, versus most places that would give you the runaround and try to have you come in and spend money. I called very upset one day because one of my dogs was urinating blood and I couldn't afford a visit at the time, and they gave me advice on how to treat a potential UTI and where to buy the supplements, without once trying to make me come in. They also helped me out by recommending some low-cost places they trust for some of my more costly pet issues. Let me preface my comments by saying that normally I respect Veterinarians a great deal because they need to know things most medical professionals have no clue about because their patients don't speak human and I am very sure that Dr. Frank is overall a very good veterinarian, however in the past 3 years ALL of the medical professions including the animal doctors have changed and in many instances not necessarily for the better and as an animal lover that saddens me deeply. We rescued a bird from someone who apparently didn't know much about caring for birds. In our care he was doing a great deal better and was thriving considering where he came from. He was happy and feisty and very much alert. After having him a little over three weeks he developed some kind of a sore on his leg that he started nawing on. The bird was really bothered by whatever the injury was that occurred and I knew it was serious enough to seek out a vet on an emergency basis. After being told over the phone by two other exotic vets that it wasn't an emergency (how would they know without seeing the bird) I was referred to North Central by our regular vet. On the positive side North Central did accommodate our little guy same day for which I was very grateful and they were very caring to our bird and nice to us however, on the not so positive side the emergency price was way out of line from the other exotic animal hospitals. Nevertheless, we paid the $215 emergency price as the vet was supposedly quite busy although when we were there we were the ONLY clients. The total bill ended up being over $500 and it could have gone as high as $1500 or more for a multitude of other tests which for the average person, who cares for animals and isn't rich, is out of range for their financial ability. In treating our bird they put a very thick plastic collar around his neck so he wouldn't chew the bandage which I get but I don't think it was necessary as he simply couldn't adjust to it. He died the next day. Even though the injury, he went from eating and drinking, chirping, having perfect stools and being active to death in one day after the veterinary visit. They told us our bird was likely a senior bird and I am convinced then that at the bird's age the collar stressed him out too much and his little heart gave out and that caused his death. I think some of what they did for him was good and probably needed but a lot of what they did do was far more costly than effective. I'm out cost wise on meds I cannot use or return, as well. Although the vet tech was knowledgeable and very nice, even for the price we never did see or talk to the vet herself. I wish our experience was better as well as the outcome for the bird. That will be a hard call to make as to whether we will go back to this vet or not. Due to the increase in exotic pet owners we definitely need more vets that are experienced in exotic animals that are also very affordable and accommodating too. This animal hospital is getting only 3 stars but shouldn't it be getting 5 stars? There is something they need to fix in order to do that. read more

We took our dog to Catalina Animal Hospital on Mar 3rd at 8 am after she had not been eating for a few days. They told us she had possible sludge or an infection in her gallbladder. My dog had x-rays done of her abdomen as well as blood drawn. She quickly declined within 24 hours of taking her to Catalina Animal Hospital, so we took her to North Central Animal Hospital on March 4th at 1 pm. At North Central, they looked at the exact same blood work and x-rays that Catalina took and after examining her, were able to identify that this was not just an "infection." Based on looking, at my dog, they could see there was fluid in her abdomen and that her bloodwork showed signs of cancer, something Catalina did not tell us. The team at North Central told us the steps to take to find out what exactly was the route of our dog's issue and the best way to make her comfortable at the time. Unfortunately, our dog ended up passing away yesterday Mar. 10th but North Central made it the best experience and was there for us in ways Catalina was not. Our vet tech was Cayla, and our veterinarian was Dr. Thomas. They were truly the best! read more

The vet and her staff were very kind, informative, and gentle with our pup. They even spoke directly to my two daughters about ways they could help, too. Dr. Ivy Thomas saved my rabbit's life. My bunny rabbit domino was in dire condition after flystrike. Flystrike is a disgusting, painful and fatal condition. In simple terms, Bunny had diarrhea, flys are attracted to the diarrhea, fly's lay eggs on bunny, eggs hatch into maggots, thousands of maggots begin eating bunny's flesh, and it all happened within a 36 hour period. My wife noticed Domino was acting strange last Sunday, he was lethargic and not himself. I picked up him, turned him over and noticed the infestation. We began calling emergency Vet centers. We drove to Scottsdale Emergency vet, and after seeing Domino, they recommended we go to North central Animal hospital. Dr. Thomas was on lunch when we arrived, but after the Vet Tech Dave saw Domino, he texted her to come back. Dave and Dana were both very kind as we waited, checking on us and domino frequently, and Dave put him in an oxygen tank to help him breath. When Dr. Thomas Arrived she looked at Domino and quickly determined his treatment plan. He had anesthesia, her and Dave removed all maggots by hand, his wounds were cleaned and he was giving a shot to kill any remaining worms. Domino was sent home a couple hours later with antibiotics, pain medication, soothing cream and pro-biotics. She told us we were not out of the woods yet, as domino was under great stress from the whole ordeal, and the next few days would be very telling. It has been a week, I have given Domino his meds religiously and he seems to be on the mend. He is in good spirits, his pain is going down and fingers crossed his wounds are healing. Can't thank Dr. Thomas, Dave and Dana enough for taking such good care of my little buddy. Thanks North Central for keeping Domino alive and giving me more time with him. read more

Last week I took my 4 month old Vizsla male puppy in for his last shots. It was an absolute nightmare. My puppy was immediately intimidated hiding behind me. He is usually outgoing full of energy. I am assuming he had "white coat syndrome". The clinic staff made no attempt to engage or reassure him. They wanted to take him in the back for his last shot. He refused to go. They started dragging him. I intervened and walked him back. As soon as I left him, he was screaming. Not barking or howling, but screaming. The other animals started making noises, like a scene out of a movie. They refused to let me stay. They bring him back out to the front ( this is in front of all the other people waiting with animals) and start dog shaming me. Telling me to pick him up he is the most aggressive dog untrained they are deeply concerned with his personality. I am mortified I pick him up and he is soaking wet! I place him back down. They said oh yes he was so bad and urinated on himself the whole time. They insisted he needed immediate training. I didn't know what to do. I felt so helpless. All the way home he kept crying. Than he threw up in the car. He lives with three other dogs. Gets walked almost everyday since his parvo shots, been to dog parks, small hikes, camping, and has lots of interaction with other people, crowds, and kids. Has never had any signs of aggressive or other concerning behavior. I contacted a trainer and after he met my dog -btw acted as happy and energetic as ever- his response was never take him back. They have traumatized this dog. He had the basics down sit, shake, stay, but doing great with the other puppies in his class this week. Save yourself the trouble and heartache don't take your fur-babes here. I feel like I failed him. I should of left with him. I just didn't realize how bad it was. Trainer recommended I not contact them after I received this voicemail yesterday, not asking if he was doing okay after shots, but if I found a trainer yet. He suggested I just Yelp them. I was running late for my appointment and called , expecting them to have to reschedule. Instead they said to come on in and they would work me in for my dog's vaccines if I was willing to be worked in. They had me in and out in about 25 minutes. Everyone was very nice and I would recommend this clinic to anyone, especially for the $5 rabies vaccine. Best value in town! read more

I am VERY angry about my Vet appointment today! About a month in advance, I called to make an appointment to get my foster dog his booster shot. I specifically asked the lady how far past the due date will they accept in order to keep the 3 yr Rabies status. She told me "about a month". So I told her the due date, & that I wanted to do it as far past the due date as I could & still be able to keep the status. I also asked her if I could e-mail the Rabies ahead of time to get everything set up & prove that he had already had his 1 yr Rabies. So she gives me the e-mail to send it to & when I sent it, I asked for them to reply & confirm that they got it. No one replied. I waited, still no reply. So I called & asked if they got my proof of Rabies to verify that he was due for the 3 yr Rabies, & they said they had received it. Every time I talked to them, I mentioned that he was to get the 3 yr Rabies. At NO TIME did they EVER say that I needed to come in earlier in order to get the 3 yr Rabies! Even though they were told the date several times!!! They waited until the absolute last minute when I was already there & there was nothing that could be done about it! Seriously? He was due on the 24th, & my appointment was on the morning of the 26th. Less than a 2 day difference! Give me a break! Vaccines are VERY hard on the body, & giving Rabies every year, for 3 years in a row is EXCESSIVE. I have studied what vaccines do to the body, & I know that a mere 2 days is not going to make a difference AT ALL. AND if THEY thought it was such a big deal, why did no one tell me that I needed to do the appointment no later than the 24th when I was talking about the 3 yr? I would have simply made the appointment earlier! Not one person said anything to me in all the times I contacted them about getting his Rabies, or showing proof that he already had his one year Rabies!!! I am a good customer. Not only have I brought in several rescue dogs to them, but I also refer a ton of people to them. This was an EXTREMELY PETTY move on their part, & VERY BAD customer service! I am going to file a complaint with the BBB. There is absolutely no reason that they should have denied giving him the 3 yr Rabies certificate!!! On top of the mess up with the shots, when the Vet tech came out to get Parker, she took the leash off his harness & put a slip lead around his neck. I told her "No, I don't agree with putting a slip lead around a dogs neck unnecessarily" (because the neck is a delicate area & it can damage the neck). She said "I have to", I said "Why? He has a harness on, just use that..." She said "I'm sorry, it's mandatory if you want us to look at the dog". I said "It's never been done when I've been here before...". She just shrugged & led Parker away on the slip lead. Yet another very petty thing on their part that could result in damage to a dog. read more

I was very satisfied with my experience at this clinic and I will be returning. I called in the morning for puppy vaccines and was able to get a same day appointment. The staff was very informative when I asked questions(we are 1st time puppy owners). Staff was courteous and friendly! Did not get to meet the Dr., but maybe that will happen the next time I bring Chuckie for an Exam. read more

Great friendly service for our flock of birds! Wouldn't take them anywhere else!! Our African Grey, Checco was having problems picking his feathers. A full lab of blood work was performed with good results. After a number of recommended changes, he has stopped picking and is on his way back to full feather!! read more

What a great veterinary clinic! I was so happy to find doctors that specialized in small critters like my guinea pigs. The care that they have received here is phenomenal. They genuinely care about all of the animals and the front staff texts often to check on my pigs after their exams.
