Village Animal Clinic is directly responsible for me and my husband losing our beloved and only friend we had in our lives. A gorgeous 11 years old Persian cat, who was in perfect health, just needed a single tooth extraction. To begin with, we found out thru Emergency Vet Hospital who reached to Goldhammer that Village Animal Clinic NEVER PERFORMED REQUIRED LAB WORK before giving my kitty the anesthesia, even though it was included in my estimate. She had a dental procedure on March 3d, and on March 16 we had to put her to eternal sleep. Upon returning her home after the procedure on March 3d, she did not sleep until Monday evening. Not a wink. She did not act the same, did not respond to us, she was sitting and hiding, looking terrified, due to opioid pain killer she was given. March 5 got runny stools, March 6 she started flopping her rear legs and started refusing water, so we took her to emergency clinic. She had a fever. March 7th went back to Village Animal Clinic. She was running at 104 fever, was given a strong dose of antibiotic. Couple days after she stopped pooping, and got extreme constipation. March 14th we went back to Village Animal Clinic. Dr stated she is NOT constipated at all, performed rectal exam that made my sweet cat scream, and she stated that she has a mass obstructing her ability to poop. Told me it will be 500 bucks for ultra sound and to buy a cat laxative, sent me home to wait for ultra sound appointment. They called me next day to tell me that ultrasound appointment will be on April 17! More than a month away, for a cat that can't use bathroom and has an urgent issue going on. On March 16th, we took her to 43d Ave Animal Hospital, they took x-rays which showed she was constipated in her entire colon, because some sort of mass was blocking her. They sent us to another Emergency Hospital same day where she was urgently admired, but it was too late and surgery would affect her life in a very negative way, so we decided to let her go before she ever suffers. I will state loud and clear that Village Animal Clinic KILLED MY MOST PRECIOUS FRIEND. Please do not go there. I implore you. My beautiful cat may have had a small mass on the outside of the colon, but in 11 years she has never been constipated, never been in pain, never failed to use her litter box. She had normal stool day before her procedure at Village Animal Clinic. I believe that lab work on her was not done prior to anesthesia, and that whatever they did to her which gave her a 104 fever, directly contributed to this tragedy. I will feel guilty for the rest of my life for taking her there. To end this review, I want to say this to Dr Goldhammer: To you, this is a business. You lack compassion. You gave my cat a rectal exam and while she was screaming, you laughed and talked with another lady in the exam room. My husband and I had our entire world revolving around our kitty. She was the most beautiful soul I have ever held in my arms, never a single scratch nor a bite, she liked to be brushed every day, she liked to be spoken to, and she made our lives bearable. I have only seen my husband cry once, two years ago when our son was killed, and now, after losing her. To you, she was a money maker, to us a World.You took the entire World from us, and I sincerely hope that you never experience what it feels like when you lose your best friend, when they get stolen from you, after you put your trust in someone to take care of them. I hope God can forgive you, because we never will. read more

My pet is a new client of Village Animal Hospital. We have been going there for a little over a year and find the service, the staff, and the location exceeds all expectations in every sense of the word. I initially went to Village via a friendship with the office manager, Michelle. I showed her some paperwork from my previous Hospital, where Ive been a client for 20 plus years. In the last several years, I have grown very disenchanted with the corporate atmosphere there. I started out feeling like a valued customer and now I feel like I'm just a number, who always pays his bills. In the past year the personal service and recognition from the entire staff starting with Dr. Goldhammer down to the newest person at the front, Dakota I feel like I'm a family member bringing in a cherished possession, my Cheyenne. I urge anyone with a family member that has four legs and fur to consider These Fine people and this convenient location. Take your pet somewhere else if you love them like I DID before something happens and it's too late!

Unfortunately our dog had to go over the rainbow bridge today. Despite promising to contact us immediately, this clinic did not consider it necessary to contact us soon after the first biopsy. Also, after the second, we only got the result with inquiries. According to information from the oncology clinic, which was to continue treatment, the results were not made available despite inquiries. The results were only sent after we had asked massively. We lost valuable time, which might have helped our princess, due to the lack of or even insufficient advice. Then last week we tried to get an appointment with the aim of getting some soothing medicine for our love. Our dog was dying We were turned away with the remark that we were too busy!!! We would like to express our thanks to the animal clinic Cactus and 40th AVE. Here very loving and caring veterinarians helped us to find the way to the Rainbow Bridge. We do not know whether our princess could have been saved, but if there had been a possibility, we were treated very badly in the clinic treating us here, promises were not kept and by no means everything that had to be done was done. read more

Easy to make appointment staff is extremely friendly. My dog loves it here! It is just a nice small veterinarian!

We have been going to Village Animal for several.years both our dogs and my moms dogs. We took.my elderly mothers 14 year old Maltese in for what we thought was going to be an extraction of 5 teeth. When we picked her up we learned that they extracted 17 teeth! The following morning, she was dead in her crate..we left numerous voice mails over the next several days asking for a call back. Our calls were never returned. It's very disappointing and we will not be taking our pets back and highly recommend you avoid this vet. It's been over 2 weeks and still no follow up call. read more

I would not take any of my dogs here again.My dog had a cough for 2 to 3 weeks took them here got put on valley fever medication my dog continued to throw up I called the clinic they said to continue giving him his medication I took him to Vet Med that evening at 6 PM where he died. Village is my go to! The staff is amazing! Michelle is the best tech, she is spectacular with all breeds. I own 2 pitbulls, one is a bit aggressive. However this clinic cares and always goes beyond the call of duty. They are professional and inexpensive. I will always go here for everything!!! I can be a bit obsessive about my fur babies, and they make me feel beyond comfortable in their clinic. A definite forever home for my pups. read more

I'm surprised there are no reviews for Village. My family previously owned a pet store across the parking lot and, shamefully, sold puppies (now we only support adoption and no mills!) However terrible this was, it gave us lots of experience with Village Animal Clinic. Dr. Reiter and Dr. Goldhammer were our go-to vets for all the puppies, up to 10 a month, and many of their new owners used the free-checkup we offered and stayed with Village afterwards. They were always very compassionate and thorough, saving many puppies from parvo (which is often hard to do in pet store scenarios), We brought our own dogs there as well, and my parents still do. We had to put our 14 year old German Shepherd to sleep last year and Dr. Goldhammer was wonderful and patient during this difficult event. Dr. Reiter removed a tumor from my senior Shiba Inu last month and she is doing great. To top it off, one of my favorite positive vet memories is me being 11 or 12 and having a sick rat. A pet RAT, I tell you, and my mother brought her to Dr. Goldhammer to humor me. Village only does dogs and cats generally, but Dr. Goldhammer gave that silly rat a rodent-sized dose of antibiotics and cleared her right up. THAT is wonderful care and service! In short, anything we have presented to them, they have been able to handle with a calm manner and great care for the dogs, cats and even a rat. We have gone to Arrow Animal Hospital down the street and were not impressed at all, between their less-than-friendly attitudes and insane prices, and made our way back to Village. The only thing that could be better is that it takes a week to get an appointment sometimes, because they are such a small clinic, but if it's not an emergency, I would call Village Animal first. read more

This was my 2nd visit to to village animal clinic, with dog#2. We were having an emergency with our dog who had an allergic reaction to something unknown that created a potential life and death issue. Village booked our appointment last minute, offered sound advice, compassion and most importantly they didn't try to sell services we didn't need. Our (7!) rescue pets are our babies, but still money is tight so the cost of animal care is always a concern. We appreciate so much the speed of care we received and the affordable services. They are not located in the most beautiful part of town (my neighborhood :) but I'd highly recommend. Give them a try. read more

My dog who had not eaten for days and was having diarrhea was given a half-assed physical. They ran no tests at all, said my dog was fine and sent her home. I decided to take her to the VetMED later on, and they immediately knew something was wrong, did actual tests, and found out that she is very anemic, and my dog is now getting treatment. If you truly love your animals....don't even think of taking them to this vet. I've been taking my little dog there when it was Dr. Reiter that was the only vet. That was 2008. When Dr. Goldhammer came in and joined the practice I knew right away I didn't trust her abilities. I requested to only be booked with Reiter after the third, or so, experience I had with her. When Dr. Reiter retired, I thought , I'll give it a try. Everybody has bad days....big mistake on my part. It's a long and frustrating story, but finally I've found a vet who cares. Lola has been suffering with arthritis. She is finally getting the relief she deserves. dr Goldhammer complains that Lola has extensive records...well, she has valley fever so I have her blood work done every 6 months it's recommend to be done every 3 to 6 months...no worries village animal hospital....Bell Ridge Animal Hospital doesn't mind my business. read more

Dr. Goldhammer & her staff are excellent. I have been bringing our cats here for years. Prices are reasonable probably because the location is not sitting on a main road so keeps their rent lower than a big strip mall. They are very understanding and sympathetic when your pet gets to the point where you have to make that final decision. I have recommended them to many friends. read more

-5 STARS. DO NOT go there and if you do, DO NOT let your dogs out of your sight. I took my dog for a spay and never saw her again. I had signed papers for the consent on the medical procedure and after I left Goldhammer wrote in "Release to AZ Weimaraner Rescue" her writing, not mine. It was a medical consent, not a surrender form, and I can't get my dog back from the rescue. She lied to the police about having surrender papers, she lied to me about signing the papers and wouldn't give me a copy of what she purported to have. So unethical and dishonest and did nothing to help me get my dog back. She wouldn't give me copies of the papers I signed because all they were, were signed medical consents she falsified and altered. Seems to be doing this for the lady at the rescue so that lady can hoard the dogs in inhumane conditions. Goldhammer lied, she yelled at me, she attempted to intimidate me and did this all after the other patrons had left. And she didn't use her sweet, fake voice with me like she did with the other customers. Still trying to get my dog back & its been 3 weeks in large part to what she did. I cannot believe she can get away with this and is still in practice. I cannot believe she can go to work everyday and act as though she's honest and ethical. I will not be going back to this veterinarian. We had to put our dog down. I did not like the loud shaver, they used to shave my dogs paw, before injecting her. The veterinarian sweeped my dogs face with her shoe, as she was readjusting her, for the shot. The staff was jaded, unfriendly and cold. I called to make a complaint, and was told the vet was the owner, and that she was probably having a off day. read more

I called around to price check local vets. Our regular vet was asking for a lot of money to chip/spay/declaw our cat. I wanted the best quality car for my kitty, but wanted to see if I could pay a little less. This vet, took phenomenal care of Ginny. They kept her for a few mandatory days after the surgery, which was not required by other vets, but assured me that Village Animal Clinic had her wellbeing in mind. They called me a few days later to check in on her, too. The overall cost was less than what they quoted me on the phone. They had special litter available (for a small fee) so that Ginny's paws wouldn't be irritated, but we had already bought some. Village Animal Clinic is a wonderful vet, who cares deeply for their patients. Highly recommended! read more

We have been going to village animal clinic for over 40 years. we loved dr rieter. when we had to put little Chelesa our 4 lb yorkie to sleep we took her there.we have had to put a Nfew dogs to sleep because of old age and when we got there Dr Goldhammer gave the shot and Chelse cryed out. It was hard enough but that was rhe first time anyone or dogs cried out. now we have 2 other dogs and our small one came down with a bad cough. took her there and one doctor said she had an infection and gave her medicne. after a month of that no difference. We now saw Dr. Goldhammer she took x-rays (2)Goldhammer and said she had an enlarged heart and did blood work.Dr. Goldhammer said she hadd to on this medicne for the rest of her life. I said o.k. She then called me the next day and she said she also had valley fever and I had to back to get more medicne. well after a month of that Sena still not improve. She was not eating and loosing weight. Tried force feeding,cheese,baby food everything.So after 2 months of this trying everything she was still coughing I said if god wants her he will take her so I stopped all medicne. We were this close to putting her to sleep!!! Well guess what. She started eating after we stopped all medicne. Today she is still coughing but eating 3 times a day and happy read more

We had the misfortune of having to have a cat put down. I contacted Toni @ Citizens for North Phoenix Strays from whom we had adopted a cat from. She referred me to Dr. Reiter. We made the trek from Tempe to their office. Dr. Reiter and the entire staff were so compassionate . We have been using Village Animal Clinic since we moved to the neighborhood in 2009. We have 3 dogs (1 is our problem child and visits the vet often). It was ok visits for the most part. I have no idea what has recently happened in the last few months but it was a doctor we have never met "filling in" and we were not impressed the 3 times she saw our dogs. She refused to listen to me when I kept telling her the problem wasn't new and it had went away but came back. She insisted on just doing yet another expensive test they already did before. They never called or any form of contact to confirm her thought was incorrect and the problem still continues. In the healthcare world for humans, you are constantly taught the patients know their bodies the most and we should believe what they are saying. I feel in the case of our fur babies, their human parents know when something is right or wrong. And I don't feel like my opinion or knowledge of the dog being examined was even considered. Plus to top it off, she basically blamed my dog for not being able to stop panting to listen to her heart. Needless to say, we are trying a new vet in the area because we aren't impressed with the changes. read more
