**I came here to give birth. I left trusting this hospital completely. Then their billing department spent over a month proving that trust was misplaced.** My clinical experience here was genuinely exceptional -- the nurses, physicians, lactation consultants, delivery preparation classes, even the food and the offer of prayer. I left with nothing but gratitude. Because of that, I trusted this hospital when the bills started arriving. That trust has been systematically broken. I provided my insurance information three separate times -- first at admission, again in person with a financial counselor at discharge who scanned it directly, and a third time over the phone with billing. The hospital still failed to apply it. This was not an oversight on my part. They received it. They scanned it. They still did not process it. As a result, I received a bill for over $9,000 with no explanation. When I flagged it, I was asked to provide the same information again -- as if none of it had ever happened. Additional bills followed, including from external physician groups, with no clear explanation. A team that cannot complete this basic task three times over is not a team whose unverified bills I can simply accept and pay. Since February 26, I have sent more than 10 requests -- by email, phone, and patient portal -- to the Billing Department, Patient Account & Financial Assistance, and the CFO's Office, asking for nothing more than an itemized bill and a written explanation of charges. Every single request was ignored. When I did reach someone in billing by phone, I was told written documentation could not be provided. Also he refused to provide name. Yet when I was asked to pay immediately, there was suddenly a willingness to put things in writing. That double standard is not a coincidence -- it is a pattern. I am not asking for anything extraordinary. As a patient, I have every right to review an itemized bill before paying. That is it. **【UPDATE - 3/30/2026】** The hospital responded publicly and asked me to email patientexperience@tenethealth.com. I had already emailed that address before even posting this review. Still no response. **【UPDATE - 4/6/2026】** It has now been over five weeks since my first request. More than 10 documented attempts across multiple departments. Zero written responses. Zero itemized bill. Now Daily "overdue" notices. Publicly inviting a patient to reach out -- while ignoring every actual attempt they make -- is not customer service. It is the appearance of accountability without any of the substance. I have been patient, documented, and reasonable throughout. I will update this review if that ever changes. read more

My surgery was scheduled at North Central Baptist on 8/11 and I was discharged from room 5021. The entire experience was positive and the care was wonderful. I never needed to ask for pain medicine, or anything else, as I was checked on frequently. Very poor care, especially since I spent 5 days in ICU. I had 2 nurses during my stay that seemed to have real nursing experience. I have throat cancer, and needed a trac to breathe. I had a couple blown veins from iv ports not being installed properly, a night nurse that could only read a monitor and couldn't access I was choking. She pushed morphine in with a quick motion which caused me to feel like my chest would explode. Then asked if she should have pushed it slower. too many other things to list here. Case manager not completing orders or answering messages and having to wait a week after leaving the hospital for needed medical supplies. Please, avoid this place at all cost!!! read more

I think the labor and delivery department needs to be looked into, if I could zero stars I would. Some of the staff that are working there are rude, pushy and lie to you, from Heather, Brittany and The midwife Dr. Martin. (Dr.Martin will deceive. You come in there and tell you all these different things to get you to go through her methods and her methods backfired on the patient) Dr.Martin should not even be allowed to operate or even see patients with her attitude, her disrespect and the deceiving way she uses) These three in particular, definitely need an investigation on their practicing and procedures and how they lie to patients and tell them there's medical reasons why they need to go against the patients well when there is no medical reason come to find out If you see any of these RNs and midwife I would run or request for a different RN and a different doctor. You will have a traumatic experience!! We were lied to Heather is not genuine or respectful. There was things that happened such as getting a balloon ripped out of my wife when it wasn't time there were needles being put inside and ruptured the placenta when we asked for it not to happen. We were told that it needed to happen or it would be a major issue. Once the needle went inside it ruptured the placenta and caused a major issue which we were concerned about. Do not have any of these three be in your room. If so request for another person. This is from experience. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. NCB is lucky I don't have enough characters to lay out this full story. On October 26th 2024 my PREMATURE NEWBORN, was INJURED during a bath that was requested NOT be done until the morning when I, his mother would be there in the NICU under the care of nurse Crystal. Nothing was done or came from the injury that my son sustained. They tried to sell us on believing this injury came from the SCENTED SOAP the nurse used! She bathed him at midnight, after being told not to, then didn't check on him until 3AM when he had blisters starting from his calve to his little ankle and was red down his whole bottoms half. Not to mention neither my husband or I were contacted of her discovery until AFTER 8AM when I was already ON MY WAY to the hospital at the hour I said I would be. We were dismissed and treated like we were overreacting by Mariano your patient safety coordinator, Kelli the Nursing Director, Ann the Clinical manager, and Adam your Assistant Chief Operating Officer. What kind of administration do you have running this place? When approached about the temperature of the water in their sinks being SCALDING HOT (with little opening of the faucet) during one of the VARIOUS meetings we had with these people, we were brushed off. So why were signs put in on top of EVERY sink in the nicu?? The nursing director recommended that we "download an app" so that we can learn about products that are safe on sensitive skin. One plastic surgeon that came by to consult on my son's wound said "right hand on the Bible, gun to my head, I don't know what could have caused this but good news is he doesn't need a skin graft". Then we had Mariano tell my husband and I quote "sorry this happened, but I'll have this wrapped up and investigated by Thursday. I won't be here the rest of the week after that". Guess what Mariano managed to do? Put Caution Hot Water signs above EVERY sink in that NICU. Sign which were not there for the THREE WEEKS PRIOR to this incident. The quality of care and compassion we received for this whole situation is absolutely disgraceful. No parent should have to deal with this. This whole situation has weighed heavy on me and my family. We will never be returning to North Central Baptist. We will discourage everyone we know from being treated here. read more

Warning long post- I was at the ER yesterday. I had been on Wednesday at my local ER and went back on Thursday after developing new symptoms. I have bronchitis. I went on Wednesday after the cough started and it was the same as when I had it in January and was put on breathing treatments to continue for 7 days. Thursday I was running fever and was put on an antibiotic. By Sunday, I was not feeling any better, coughing, very sore ribs, and short of breath. I bought a pulse oximeter and it would read 92-96. I called my local ER I had gone to and was told to go to a hospital ER as they had done all they could and I might need more special treatment. I waited and went yesterday. I do want to mention my PCP had no appointments until Monday, March 30 and if she had there's no X-ray there. At North Central Baptist ER, I had the WORST experience. The triage nurse was cold and indifferent. After triage I was called in to take a chest X-ray. They did the X-ray with me sitting in an armchair in an exam room leaning up against the tray to hold it. Very janky, if you ask me. Waited about two more hours to be seen. Finally went to an exam room. The nurse was amazing. He was kind and considerate. He drew blood and started an IV. After waiting almost another hour, the very pompous, very arrogant doctor came in. He never, no one ever did, listen to my lungs or heart. My pulse ox and BP were never taken again. He asked me if I believed I had bronchitis. I said yes. I tried to explain what all had been done and prescribed and I showed him the list of treatments and meds. He seemed disinterested and handed the list back. Then he asked what I wanted him to do for me. WTH??!!! I told him to tell me I'm not dying and if I have pneumonia or not. I thought I did since I could feel my chest rattle. He said, arrogantly, he believed I just had an upper respiratory infection not bronchitis since that isn't diagnosed unless the cough has lasted for two or more weeks, I had ONLY been ill for less than a week. He seemed annoyed I was in the ER. He didn't prescribe anything for the cough, just sent me home and told to go to the ER if my pulse ox is below 90 and stays there or if I develop a fever of 102 or more and is not relieved taking Tylenol or ibuprofen. I'm very thankful my chest X-ray was clear, my pulse ox was in normal range, and my bloodwork was normal. Which the doctor should've started with when he came in the room instead of putting on his sanctimonious attitude and making me feel like an idiot and unwelcome. He relied on what the X-ray, bloodwork, and EKG to tell him all he needed to know and to him that was I didn't need his help or belong in the ER. There was no human connection, no exam, nothing. They didn't even test for Covid or the flu. Needless to say, I will not ever go back there. read more

if i could give no stars i would, although there was a safe delivery that's all i can account for! and i believe its because i did almost everything naturally! The nurses have the ugliest attitudes no matter who it is coming in, just for vitals, the rn or even the people just checking in. After the delivery room i was transferred to the post partum room with someone else information still on my baby's room. I feel like they lack common decency , and would rather not be working here at all. It's as if i'm an inconvenience at a hospital im supposed to be taken care at as well as paying!! This review is long overdue. This happened September 13, 2024. Due to being very sick this past year finally able to write it now.. I had a nodule that my PCP found that referred me to an ultrasound. Then in the ultrasound they mention it's three nodules on my thyroid.. I did a biopsy here and it was the worst experience of my life. The check-in process was super fast. They even called me right away to schedule within a week. The hospital and itself wasn't too bad. My doctor was nice but very blunt. You could tell he's been doing this for a long time so it's kind of like a routine for him not as empathetic as other doctors that I've met. My biggest issue was the pathologist Whitney a McCarthy. The Doctor Who did the biopsy was Andras Nemeth. He injected me with the lidocaine right away they were looking at the ultrasound. Everything was going smoothly until the pathologist came down and doctor mentioned how are you gonna store the results? She didn't know. She didn't know how to answer. They had to wait for her boss to come down to explain. And since lidocaine only last like 15 minutes. We were wasting time talking to the pathologist. So doctor proceeds to poked me seven times and each time they move the needle around so towards the end, I mentioned to him I feel it. I was having trouble breathing and he yelled: "that's it I'm not gonna poke her no more".. another issue that I had with the doctor was he only tested the biggest nodule that I had which was on my left side. My specialist was mad because if it was up to him, he said he would've tested them all three.. they told me the results will be back soon. It took them two weeks results and they only gave it to me because i called them to and they even made me go down there to authorize them to give me the results and even authorize to give it to my PCP who is the one that referred me here in the first place. It was such a hassle. Turns out my nodules on the left said were benign,( the only one they tested ) but the cancer was actually on the right side of my thyroid. So I went through all that horrible painful experience of a biopsy just to get inaccurate results.. mine was so painful but the pain after actually lingered for me for over a week. I had to go to my PCP to ask for some medicine so the swelling could finally cool down. I even complained to my PCP about this hospital. I know she gave them a call but definitely if you need to do a biopsy. Do not come here worst experience ever and unfortunately, if you do have to come here, I hope Whitney McCarthy is not your pathologist. read more

My grandson was taken in last night with a fever and was not given the proper care needed! My daughter took him in and they completely ignored his symptoms, didn't give him the right test and sent him home. We mistakenly told the ambulance our preferred hospital but ended up here, and we couldn't be happier. My daughter was very sick with RSV and spent a week in the PICU. Not just any week but also the week she turned one year old. The nurses in the PICU were some of the best people I could have ever asked for in our situation. They truly cared for my daughter as if one of their own children it was amazing. They brought her small gifts and wrote her a birthday card the day of her birthday and I just couldn't go without appreciating everything they did. My husband had chest pain and given that he is undergoing treatment for blood clots in his leg, his doctor recommended that he go to ER to make sure that they didn't migrate. There was no wait and after 4 hours, he was given a clean bill of health. The doctor was very nice. Before ever seeing the full bill, the hospital emailed him notice of a $929.00 co-pay due immediately. With a BCBS ER visit co-pay of $300 plus, plus, this seemed reasonable. We paid another $103 bill to a radiologist. Shortly after, we were stunned to receive the full hospital bill totaling $34,923.00 and they wanted a very large payment immediately! BCBS told me that there are other claims awaiting the approval process, so even with insurance, we may be responsible for several thousand dollars. Anyone else who touched my husband while at ER has up to 12 months to submit a claim for additional charges. At the ER, they put in an IV drip upon arrival, did an EKG ($1,137.00), 2 blood tests (total lab charges $6,045.00), a chest X-ray ($1,413.00), and a CTA scan ($14,648.00). The ER fee alone was $8,569.00. As others have mentioned, their billing department is not in the USA and they can only extend the bill due date, or make payment arrangements. When I asked to speak with someone who could explain the excessive fees, they recommended that I call the hospital. I went through the operator who connected me to a financial counselor's VM on 2 separate days. My calls were never returned. I called a third time and was connected to the same foreign billing team who could only tell me that the hospital sets the fees and that's that. It appears that negotiated fees only apply to the insurance company and do not extend to the patient. Unless you have a Cadillac plan that covers whatever they can get away with charging you for services, stay away from this hospital. You may be in debt for the rest of your life and believe me when I tell you that they couldn't care less. read more

The care quality was horrible I told them I could not feel my foot and it had been since Friday evening, KELLY STREIFF, NP cut me off and said " we are over packed and I can give you a list of foot doctors ". This is the worst experience ever I am already really low with no sensation in my foot and to have "health care" workers not care or provide help makes me scared to come back. 8/22/24 at almost 3am I had my baby boy with being in the hospital less than 5 minutes. My labor unexpectedly went fast, after my water broke at 1:50. My husband called that we were in route and when we arrived outside the ER, they were waiting for us. I was wheeled into a room and soon after being on the bed, my baby came. The nurses and doctors were quickly to take care of my and my baby. This wasn't the hospital I was supposed to deliver at but they were happy to take care of us regardless. Had my son here December 2024. Literally could have made a malpractice case here. Went in for a scheduled induction on the 18th at 8pm. No doctor from my ob was there. Just some lady from somewhere else there to "help". She did not want to deliver me so she waited until my unborn son had no found heartbeat to take me into an emergency c section where the careless old nurses who constantly talked amongst themselves in my room contaminated my epidural port. I had to go under general anesthesia. No one helped me in the recovery room while my son was in the nicu. I didn't se a lactation specialist til the end of my stay. And even she was careless and just quickly explained to me how a breast pump worked and told me to clean it and left. Not helpful at all. My epidural lasted longer than it should have and I couldn't walk and the nurses there yelled at me telling me i needed to walk. I got up to and stand and started leaking fluids and blood on the floor. They let my catheter overflow and leak on the floor. I hate this place and would not give birth here again unless i was asking to die. read more

My husband had a severe case of pneumonia and he had a TIA stroke over the holidays and was to be transferred to St. Luke Hospital and somehow ended up @ North Central Baptist. He was confused and hallucinating and not at all sure where he was. I was not allowed to go with him in the ambulance and had no car at the time so I didn't see him till the next day. In short it was a dump, the nurses were excellent, but the Doctor to put it mildly an ASS!! We were there for 4 very long days and it was a good thing I was able to stay with him. My daughter is a type 1 diabetic and she came in here via ambulance because of seizures. My daughters blood sugar was 68. They only checked her because I alerted them. It is 11:03 am and she is just getting breakfast. When I asked about breakfast I was asked if I ordered it and I should have called to order breakfast. I never had to call for the patient to eat. I had my son here (first child) back in August of 2023. The nurses and staff here were so amazing and attentive. Unfortunately I cannot recall the name of the nurse who helped me assist with a majority of my delivery but if it wasn't for her I would've most definitely freaked out. My mother has been to the ER twice in three weeks with the same issues. Doctor refused to admit her for GI issues and feels that the cat scan he ordered three weeks ago was sufficient. Yet she is back in the ER for the same issues. I am advocating for her medical care and he is essentially blowing her off. Give her meds and she's back in three weeks with the same issues. I was adamant for him to admit her so a GI doctor could run more test. He got attitde with me over the phone. I'm in here in the waiting room after getting x rays for a probably broken ankle that's very swollen and hurts. Been here for 1.5 hrs and have been asking for ice the whole time. No ice. Outside of the x ray this place has done nothing, and they've been dismissive, and passive aggressive. Why tf does it take 1.5 hrs to get ICE!!! Frozen water!! The most basic possible treatment for an ER to have! I hope this doesn't make my recovery worse but it's definitely made this way way way more painful. Go somewhere else this place can't even give you ice. In the time I've been waiting they could have put some in a bag and frozen it in the employee fridge if it's really that fucking scarce of a resource. ITS JUST ICE WHAT THE FUCK. The parking garage is chaotic with two entrances and heavy foot traffic, making it confusing to navigate. Additionally, the elevators were out of service, which was problematic. We had to assist a woman with a stroller down three flights of stairs because the elevator was not working. Given that this is a hospital, where there are many people in wheelchairs and with strollers, this issue needs urgent attention. read more

My husband was admitted to general medical at the North Central Baptist Hospital. The staff were absolutely unhelpful. He couldn't eat the food they provided and they won't offer an alternative to cold tea or a different flavor of ensure. His room is broken down and dirty. We asked that they have the means for him to go to the bathroom ready in case of urgency and the nurse said to just let her know ahead of time, duh! Photo below shows the rusty commode with a missing rubber cap and other filthy broken equipment. We'd never stay in a motel like this. I called the patient care number and was forwarded to leave a voicemail for a "patient advocate". They've made the exterior of the facility gorgeous but the Hospital itself is dilapidated and the care is poor. If you have a choice keep shopping. read more

2nd visit, 2nd most horrible experience at a hospital. They do not know how to treat human beings with humanity and dignity. They are clearly understaffed (they said so themselves, nurses especially and only 1 doctor), most of them had bad manners with my mother and I, horrible patient communication (4 hours later they still couldn't figure out my mother speaks only Spanish), and did not care at all for my mother's pain or discomfort. Not at all. She is 82. She is sick and alone. She deserves much better. Not only that, but a MAN called Mauro who barely works behind a desk without any caregiver title, tried to "help" my 82 year old FEMALE almost-naked mother urinate... without a "chaperone" and without asking for my mother's consent. That is forbidden in any hospital in the USA and the rest of the Western World (at least). I complained about all these mistreatment and he called security. Then all the nursing and staff team began a passive-aggressive treatment towards us. Not happy with that, the surgeon on call Dr. Gary Wright, proceeded to stitch up my mom (10 inch lesion) before the local anesthesia kicked in. He did not wait a second. My mother is strong as a rock, but she cried and screamed like an infant during most of the procedure. The anesthesia kicked in by the end of it. She is extremely upset as a patient and as a doctor. The treatment was inhumane. He's stitching technique, I would not use it on my worst enemy. AVOID NORTH CENTRAL BAPTIST HOSPITAL if you value your life, pain, suffering, dignity and time. I am a nurse practitioner and have worked in healthcare for more than 3 decades. My experience at this hospital was literally appalling and worse than I could imagine a human being treated. I did not have health insurance when I found myself in need of an unexpected and urgent surgery while in severe pain. The nursing staff was mostly good, but the hospital administration treated me like I was dirt on the floor. They violated my privacy in the middle of the waiting room, held my health for ransom until I paid $18900 in full before my surgery, and despite the advertised ability to make payments when uninsured, literally from their website and in the preop packet, they denied me the ability to make payments and denied care until I paid with a credit card that had 18% interest. As a nurse I've always known that Baptist Health System in San Antonio was not a place I would take myself or my family, and this time only went there for the doctor that I needed to urgently see, and how unfortunate of an experience it was. ALL should be ashamed of themselves, and yet they literally are not. AT ALL. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL OR ANY BAPTIST HOSPITAL, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CHARGE WHATEVER THEY WANT NO QUESTIONS ASKED INSURANCE CARD, since that IS the bottom line. They couldn't get away with highway robbery without question, so I was useless to them. I have gone up the chain of command for Baptist Health System and their owner Tenet Health System, reached out to all the higher ups for the bigger system and the owner, and the only response I got was from their "trust and safety officer" that said they stand by their decision. I wasn't eligible for a payment plan and I was given a deep discount. No apology and no remorse. Like stone cold emotionless robots. I never said I wouldn't pay. I just asked for the payment plan they had advertised since I had only a few days notice that this surgery was needed, but nope, I am literally useless to them. To the leaders of North Central Baptist Hospital and your owner Tenet Health System, you are an absolute disgrace. One day you will meet your maker and have to answer for the inhumane treatment you allow, and the lack of remorse or apology. Good luck with that. You deserve no grace or forgiveness from me for your stone cold robot decisions. Your values on your website are an absolute joke too. You need an asterisk on your website that states all these values and standards we state here are only available if you have health insurance so we can charge astronomical prices with no questions asked. This review is LONG overdue. I had my son and first child here back in February of 2022. It was probably the worst first birthing experience all due to this hospital. First off I had been having back contractions for 2 days with zero sleep and I was already passed 42 weeks but kept getting turned away because I wasn't dilated at all so I was told they were false contractions. After going in for the 3rd day in a row and NO SLEEP, I begged to just be induced and given the epidural, thinking I would finally get some rest before it was time to push. WRONG!! So wrong, cause I was put in a room next to one that was having construction done, there was CONSTANT hammering being done on the opposite wall, I was never allowed to get sleep. It would be over 50 hours till I would finally get to sleep after having my baby. Then I was constantly woken up every 30 minutes to a hour by nurses coming in the room, not to mention I was right by a lunch room where people were in and talking loudly all hours of the night. Why they would put someone in a room where the shared wall is being hammered on for hours, is beyond me. But I guess they care more about filling the room with a patient so they can make their money. It was impossible to relax and prepare for the biggest more nerve-racking procedure of my life. The nurse Shaylee is one of the only reasons I even added stars, after being fed up from the lack of sleep and telling her I hadn't got any, she put a sign on my door. She was a godsend in that hell hole. But because I had a do not disturb sign, the lactation consultant never came, we called for her to come and she still never came back to our room the whole 3 days we were there, I believe this is a HUGE part of the reason I ended up not being able to fulfill my wish to breastfeed my son. Back to the labor part. I specifically said no one in training. I'm assuming my nurse was freshly done with training, she was a younger girl and kept coming in, leaving and coming back in with an older nurse and asking them how to do things. I also believe this resulted in an unnecessary lengthy stay and my son unnecessarily being poked and prodded multiple times for test and blood draws. The whole time I was in labor she took my temp from under my tongue, right before it was time to push she switched to under my armpit. I was nervous, bothered and sweaty so of course my temp would differ. She said I was running a slight fever so they kept me extra days, and continually drew blood from my newborn for monitoring. They would take the blood and come back saying they needed to do it again because it had clotted before they could test it. You're also made to stand up and put in a chair less than a hour after pushing a human out of you, so they can move you and fill room with someone else, if you can't stand they will pick you up and move you anyways. The reason I'm even giving a 2nd star is because the older veteran nurse and the man who administered my epidural were amazing, little did I know it was the calm right before the storm. This experience made me realize why more and more women are choosing to do home births, this was a horrible experience all around. Not to mention you can't even take videos of your own child's birth with your phone, but they sure will charge you another $500 to have one of their photographers come in and do it. read more

I was admitted in the ortho Hospital for 5 days for spine surgery and they definitely exceeded expectation. From the front desk to check in for surgery to the nurses in pre op to the moment I got to my room. I had the best nurses and staff taking care of me around the clock. Not to mention it was so clean in the facility. PT and OT came by to help me and were so very patient throughout the whole process. After 2 failed surgeries at main Methodist, North Central Baptist will always be my choice of hospital. read more

I had to come to baptist orthopedic hospital stone oak san antonio to. The service was horrible. The check in time was horrible that people at the check-in desk was so damn rude. I've never been so unhappy I felt unwelcome in my life. These are the most rudest people there is I've ever seen today is August 7 and the people that they got working up here today they need to take them and put them in the back somewhere. Let them watch dishes because these women are rude as hell, I am so satisfied with the service but not recommend. o my star rating is a zero read more

I was not given the opportunity to make an informed decision, and had I known that I would end up with a big hospital bill, I would have elected to just go home.
