It was fairly warm outside, so we chose to sit on the patio, which was beautiful, enclosed, and had heaters. We each enjoyed a tasting and each glass was more enjoyable than the last. We arrived a bit earlier than our noon reservation so we can set up before she arrived and they were ready for us. They already had a table selected and cleaned for us but we were told we can choose any other if we didn't like that one. In the end, we stuck with the one they had picked for us because it was shaded and isolated so we could enjoy a more "private" experience. We were told they have live music on weekends but there wasn't any that day so we ran to a nearby pharmacy to grab a portable speaker. The winery/grounds were very beautiful and well kept. It made more a nice stroll while sipping a glass of wine. Definitely make sure you walk with bug spray because the mosquitoes are nice and healthy! The service was friendly and welcoming. There were only 2 ladies working and there were a couple different groups while we were there. Wine: our entire group opted for the summer flight which included 4 different selections of wine for $30 (see photos for details). The unanimous choice of the 4 was the "NV firefly white blend". We all got bottles of this to go and it's what we heard most other guests purchasing to go as well. They also offer the option of a custom flight where you can select up to 4 wines of your choice, but they do not have a wide variety of options. Food: they do not allow outside food. They offer a light bite menu which is limited to a charcuterie board, cheese and crackers, cookies, and chips. We got the charcuterie board which was $48 and I would say not worth the price because there were barely any meats on there (see photos/videos). We also got the pita and hummus- the hummus was really good! We also got a bunch of north fork potato chips which were great and much better than the charcuterie board.

My family and I went to Osprey's Dominion Vineyards on Friday, July 4th. We had purchased Groupons…read morebeforehand. Since we were a group of 7 and the offer only comes in a package for 2 or for 4, we bought two Groupons for the Wine Tasting Experience for four persons. The Wine Tasting Experience included a Boar's Head platter featuring uncured Genoa salami and mozzarella, and Wheat Thins crackers to share, wineglasses for each person to take home, and 5 wine tastings per person. When we arrived at Osprey's Dominion Vineyards, there were plenty of parking spots and we checked in at the Tasting Room. The staff member provided us with 8 wine tasting placemats so we could indicate which wine tastings we would like and briefly explained the different types of wine. We could choose from the red, white, reserve, and the dessert wine list. I chose mostly whites and 2 rosés. My favorite was the Semi-Dry Riesling, though the Gewurztraminer was a close second. There are plenty of tables in the Tasting Room with large windows and even more tables outside. Outside, there are some tables on the patio and even more tables on the great lawn with barbecue pits. Osprey's Dominion Vineyards allows guests to bring their own picnic lunches, which is wonderful. We had prepared some charcuterie, fruit, chips, and sandwiches. After we finished our wine tastings, I purchased a bottle of Semi-Dry Riesling 2018 and Malbec 2019 for us to share. Since we were Groupon customers, we received a 20% discount on the wine-bottle purchase. There is an even a 30% discount on a purchase of three bottles or more. My family took advantage the case offer for $119. Osprey's Dominion Vineyards was not busy on July 4th and we all had a great time at the vineyards. It was a beautiful day with not a single cloud in the sky. Staff were very friendly and carried out the case to our car. The Boar's Head platter was a little small for 2 people to share, so it was great that we could bring outside food. Osprey's Dominion Vineyards is very spacious with plenty of tables so it is great for big groups.

Wine country is probably the only or at least one of the few things I like about LI. LI beaches are dirty and face side ways so you can't do any "true" surfing there. Many of the towns are clone like. But wine country is unique. I am not going to compare it to California wine country as California wine country is obviously the top in the country. If you type in anything like top wine country in the US only Sonoma and Napa come up. The other wine countries in the US are as follows- West Coast - The majority of American wine production occurs in the states of California, Washington and Oregon. Rocky Mountain Region - Notably Idaho and Colorado Southwestern United States - Notably Texas and New Mexico Midwestern United States - Missouri, Illinois and Minnesota Great Lakes region - Notably Michigan, northern New York and Ohio East Coast of the United States - Notably New Jersey, New York State, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina What makes LI a good wine producing region is Long Island, an island is an island sticking out 100 miles into the Atlantic Ocean, is a maritime region with a unique combination of climate, soil characteristics and growing conditions ideal for quality wine grape production. It's sandy soils and maritime climate have provided long growing seasons and mild winters, which has encouraged the planting of Europe's noble vinifera grapes on almost all acres planted. The first commercial vineyard was planted in Cutchogue on the North Fork of Long Island in 1973. Seventeen acres were planted by Alex and Louisa Hargrave, who are considered to be the founders of Long Island's modern day wine industry. There are 33 licensed wine producers on Long Island: 28 on the North Fork 3 on the South Fork 1 elsewhere in Suffolk County 1 in Nassau County It has been said by many that Long Island is one of the country's most exciting wine producing regions today, with great reviews and high praise found in major food and wine publications nationwide. As the awards continue to accumulate, Long Island wines are increasingly sought after in fine restaurants and wine shops from coast to coast. I would suggest touring wine country in one of the many bus or limousine tours. The reason is there seems to be so many accidents out there. You want to do it in a safe manner. The whole idea of pub crawls started in England and it not a NYC thing at all so I laugh at "hipsters" who want to do pub or bar crawls in the city. They are usually transplants or people from Long Island who don't know any better . A better idea would be to do a tour of the wineries in LI. There are also memberships at most of the wineries and events with music and wine and cheese tasting events. Most of the wine tasting events are about $5.oo per winery. You usually get 4 or 5 tastes for that price. But the wines you get for that price are usually their low end wines and you have to pay a higher price for higher quality wines. I first discovered Duck Walk wines at one of the finer restaurants in Manhattan. It was either The Four Seasons or Aureole. I do not remember which. But I do know it was one of those restaurants and that is what peaked my interest in Long Island wines. If you live in New York City, Long Island or on the East Coast this is a fun day trip. You can pick up gift wines for friends, clients and family. Every person I have given Long Island wines to has been impressed. I am grateful to the person who was the first to review wine country because although I went and took many pictures as you can tell I do not remember which pictures belong to which wineries that is why they are not labeled. The reason I do not remember which pictures belong to which wineries is obvious. Don't do wine tasting to get drunk. That is idiotic. Wait until you grow up if that is the case. But when you grow up do visit wine country in Long Island.

For those of us who have been to Napa and Sonoma, Long Island Wine Country is a little bit in the…read moreupset side... However, now that I live in New York, I do have to support my 'people'... There is much to be learned by these wineries... from membership and activities, to events to wine making... Sorry, for the last one, but some wineries really made bad wines. I do hope the learning curve is still on the way up and has not reached the 'peak' yet. Lets start with getting there. Route 25/Main Road is a one small, two lane road; which is the same as California. Have lots of patience while driving as people, limos and buses flock in and out of wineries and farms.. this is what makes the traffic very heavy on this tiny road on the weekends. If I have a choice, I would go back on a weekday to avoid the crowds. There are plenty of limo and bus tours you can take, specially if you want to do some tasting hoping and let the driving to someone else. Then you can really enjoying having a little extra wine here and there... and make sure that the bus you are in has a bathroom as we saw one too many limos stopping on the side of the road with people running to go behind the bushes... men and women alike... In addition, on weekends, most of the wineries do have live music and seems that a lot of groups and locals come for a bottle of wine with their own food and picnic baskets. Some of the wineries were full to capacity and we had to skip some due to a lack of parking and tables... darn! And my final comment: The Long Island Wineries need to learn from the California wineries when it comes to attracting and keeping the clientele. Wineries in California have joined forces and created "group memberships" for those who like to visit them frequently where they get free tastings, visits and admission to special events. In exchange, the member is required to buy a bottle a month or more... depending on the type of membership. This also allows the member to bring a guest for a free wine tasting and discount on purchases. California wineries do have other individual memberships that offer the member access to free wine tastings and events. The member is required to buy a case of wine a quarter... it is a win-win marketing scheme that could work for these wineries if they get together and create joint and individual membership plans. Finally, for those staying in hotels around the area, complimentary wine tasting cards should be given, hence bringing more tourism dollars into the state. Much more to be learned... just look "West" for some advice...
