I was recommended this shop from a friend to evaluate an issue with leaking power steering fluid primarily and a check engine light. The positive was the professional individual who greeted and called and the timely attention. The negatives I would say is it really felt like a 'dealership' quote given the estimate of the repair. This turned out to be double the cost of the actual repair from my usual mechanic taking 1.5 hours of labor. I was given a list of suggested repairs (just like the dealership offers) which included everything from battery replacement, engine mounts, etc that totaled over $5,000. So, needless to say, it was enough to steer me elsewhere. read more

I had a loud rattling noise coming from my car when it was in reverse. I called the day before and they told me to bring it in around 10am the next morning. I was there at 9:30am and was promptly helped. They took it right back and after digging around for about 30 minutes, they discovered the problem and I was in and out in less than an hour. The shop who did my last repair left a part near the axle and it was rattling. They promptly removed the part and topped of my transmission fluid. The price was good, but I did not know there is a 5% discount for cash payments. I paid with my card and they gave me the discount anyways! My only complaint is that they did not tell me the price before performing the work. read more

After having the dealership continue to hand me a laundry list of things they recommended for my 2005 Honda Odyssey, I decided it was time to look for another place to get a second opinion. Yelp had no negative reviews about this place - so I decided to try it. I handed the keys over to Jimmy and said take a look and see what you find - seeing if the same issues would surface that came up at the dealership. Amazingly, some of the items were the same. However, Jimmy provided broader context of the pro's and con's as well as lower cost options for the repairs. I went ahead and moved forward with the recommended repairs (including some aftermarket options), the cost savings were significant - and I have peace of mind they were actually needed. Very positive experience. Jimmy is very low key and straightforward. If they can operate successfully from 8-6 and be closed on weekends - they clearly are doing something right. This place is amazing. I went here just based upon reviews for my 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Keep in mind my jeep is 22 years old now, which can be a challenge. I went in for what i knew was an oil pan leak that i was seeing in my garage, but after a complete diagnosis it was actually discovered that I had the oil pan leak, front and rear differential leaks, and crank seal leak as well. They were all small leaks so it wasn't easy for me to see from the amount in the garage at the time. Brad was amazing in going over the details and the options and providing accurate estimates. With that being said, we both knew that being 22 years old, getting the correct parts would be a challenge and take time. Since this is my third vehicle, i was able to leave it until he could get the correct parts, knowing that even on the Pinon seals for the 2000 year, there are 9 different ones that might be the one on there. He went far above and beyond and ordered all 9 of them until they could figure out how to get it right. It did take about 3 weeks of time, but that is cause they wanted to make sure to get it right and test it out heavily to make sure everything was correct. After much of trial and error on which part was the right part to stop each leak, they persevered until it was perfect. The price, less than the estimate even after all that madness of time and effort and replacing seal after seal to ensure the right match was in place. I can't say enough about how hard they worked to get it right, as they could have just given up on that old jeep of mine. I highly recommend them as they stand by their work and do whatever it takes to get it right! read more

I'm a do-it-yourself-er when it comes to cars and will only enlist professional help when absolutely necessary. Recently it became absolutely necessary. One Thursday evening around sunset I noticed a large stain of something more than water running down the gutter for about thirty feet behind my car. A sniff revealed it to be coolant, and the location from which it was dripping suggested that the water pump was leaking. "Damn," I thought to myself, knowing what an infernal pig of a job it is to service the water pump on my car. I've done it twice before. The situation was even worse though. I had to leave for work bright and early the next morning, and my other car was down with -of all things- a water pump problem. I also had made plans to drive over to Birmingham that Saturday for my brother's birthday party. What to do, what to do... I have one of those nasty commutes that involves 20 miles of creeping from Larryville to Roswell, so I needed a positive solution and I needed it fast. The best idea seemed to be to find a garage near my office and drop it there first thing, call the office for somebody to come get me from the garage, and take things from there. So with that in mind, I filled up a few jugs of water then got online to find a garage. North Fulton Auto Center was about as close to my office as could be hoped for, and it had some really glowing reviews on another site. I filled out the online appointment form and resigned myself to my fate. The next morning I arrived at NFAC and found Jimmy who had just opened for the day, and in fact had just read my online appointment form. I found Jimmy to be a very pleasant and well-spoken person, and he got extra points for not giving me that sneer that so many mechanics give to self-admitted do-it-yourself-ers. A mechanic who respects my preference to do most of the work myself is a true professional and a rare find. Assuming that the water pump was the problem, Jimmy quoted me a ballpark estimate and said that same-day was a maybe and next-day was definitely possible. I could live with that. What happened next really impressed me. When I was unable to reach my office on the phone, Jimmy asked how far it was and when I told him it was about a mile, he said that he wasn't expecting a customer for another 15 minutes and offered to drive me there. I accepted. Later that day Jimmy called me and said that the water pump was not the problem and that the repair was fairly quick and easy (for any gear-heads reading this, it turned out to be a plastic Y-junction pipe you could hold in the palm of your hand). The car was ready to pick up same day. I won't even try to convey how ecstatic I was about this good news, as I'm writing this late at night and words fail my tired brain right now- but trust me, I was ecstatic. Check-out was quick and easy, and Jimmy showed me the defective part. The total price for the job was reasonable, and I was on my way. I felt very good, but I was about to feel even better...read on, gentle reader... a few blocks into my journey home, it occurred to me that the low washer fluid warning light had not come on, as it always had in the months I'd been procrastinating the repair of the leak in the washer-plumbing. A quick tug on the washer control sent two nice frothy jets of ammonia-scented goodness onto the glass before my eyes! Upon arriving home I opened the bonnet and investigated. I found the washer reservoir to be half full and holding its contents! Jimmy had repaired that too, without me even asking him to do so. This was a wonderful surprise and put a wonderful ending on the episode. The next time I need to let somebody else repair my car in a way that will fit with my work-day, I won't hesitate to give Jimmy a call. The explanation you'll receive is generally not based in mythology, but supported with facts. Facts that they'll be willing to show you, if you ask. The drop-off =========== First, let me say that you can drop off your cars early in the morning, but as with most car mechanics it's always best to call ahead and make an appointment. You should probably also explain what's going on with the car and inquire if they can provide transportation to and from your work. They do provide a shuttle service, but depending on how many people are working and how much they're currently working on -- they might not be able to drop you off right away. They do have a night drop service available. The lobby ========= If you decide to wait it out, they have a small but cozy lobby. It feels a bit more like a cozy doctor's office than a garage lobby. They've got a few periodicals, but you'll probably want to bring a few magazines, newspapers or books of your own. If you decide to walk around the complex, understand that this place is nestled among several other auto shops and there isn't much sight-seeing or shopping to be had. Services rendered =============== For most things, Jimmy is very price sensitive. He'll try to get the best solution that costs the least amount of money. This is something that I've noticed over time. He also does a good job of explaining what needs to be fixed and why. Tips ===== -Pay in cash. They have a significant cash discount. -Ask questions. My jeep needed to have the EGR valve replaced. My first stop- Palmer Dodge/ Jeep. It only took 5 minutes for Service guy to call me dear while 'mansplaining' what I already knew. Service guy continued to dismiss me and I kept looking around to see if I on an episode of Mad Men. Seriously. It's 2016, Palmer. I think its when he put his foot on my running board and leaned in on his knee while calling me dear for the 3rd time was when I had enough. I left and made an appointment at NFAC. I couldn't have been happier; Jimmy was great and we came up with a plan of action. Ryan worked on the part and I got to play with a puppy. Best service! After taking my car to the dealership for a recalled airbag replacement, I was told it really needed some maintenance: Water pump, belt, oil pan, etc... The car being 10years old, I expected it and though the quote they gave me wasn't the highest, it was still pretty steep. I was looking for a mechanic OTP, close to my work, and North Fulton Auto Center kept coming back with the highest reviews. I emailed the owner, Jimmy, through their Yelp page for a quote and had an answer within minutes. I indicated I wanted to pay cash and get an idea of what the total would be. I work retail and thought I might need some extra shifts just to come up with the money. Jimmy gave me the best quote. Much lower than any of the other places I called. I took my car in and after inspection he told me the water pump, belt were just fine. He showed a very slow "leak" what I would need to keep an eye on. Honestly, I felt a bit stupid for wasting their time. I did need and oil change and transmission fluid replaced, which they did, very quickly, and at a very good price. I HIGHLY recommend North Fulton Auto Center. Ladies, if like me, you are a little nervous about mechanics trying to sell you repairs you don't need, just because you don't quite know what it is but they make it sound important, you can rest assure this will not happen there.
