BEWARE!!! These people are crooks with a smile and a soft spoken voice!!! I took my BMW M760i to them because BMW had my appointment way too many days out and I couldn't wait that long because my coolant leak started getting worse. I called and GCR had me scheduled the next day to drop it off in the morning at 10am. Right before closing they called me to inform me of what they found and I couldn't believe it so I drove up there immediately in my other car to get this paperwork in hand. Mind you, I just bought this car in August 2025 and had it thoroughly inspected before purchase by another company and all was immaculate, literally had to get new tires and we all know dealers will do a lot before sale of a vehicle so he went half on them with me and I was fine with that. It is now January 8, 2026 and German Car Repair(GCR) is telling me and I quote "You have 2 cracked radiators and multiple leaks, 3 of them". They even supplied pictures with diagrams and markings showing the leak spots. The cost to fix this (according to these GCR crooks) would be $5025.06 to "REMOVE AND REPLACE MAIN COOLANT SYSTEM RADIATOR AND HOSES"(literally copied and pasted from their invoice and it lists all kinds of things) This is right before closing so I step out to see if my mechanic Shawn( BMW certified guy that's been working on my other bmw for years at his shop in kennesaw) can clarify some things for me. Since my car was still drive able and not running hot or anything I simply paid them for their diagnosis fee and left my vehicle in their parking lot in which another employee kindly backed it in a spot for me until later when I can pick it up or get it towed if I decide. I picked up my car that night and scheduled a tow (I live in Alpharetta and my mechanic is in kennesaw so I didn't wanna drive) for the next day to my mechanic. This was on a Friday so I knew he wouldn't get to me until Monday because he doesn't do weekends. Shawn told me I DO NOT HAVE A CRACKED RADIATOR!! The main hose that runs on top of it was leaking real bad so if you just looked at it you would think it was leaking but that's why you do a pressure test to make sure. A PRESSURE TEST GCR WAS PAID TO DO!!! I was so relieved but then became pissed because these folks really just tried to rob me with a soft tone and a freaking smile!!! Shawn does my repairs, the old faulty hoses and control arms because they were worn out bad and my total less my extended warranty of $750, $1466.74 and that was because it cost me $245 to tow it to him( I got charged an extra $100 by the tow company because I was sleep when they first came out and I like them and it's just business). That price is significantly lower than GCR price of $5025 just to fix the coolant leak!!!! They wanted more than I paid to fix both issues to just fix the control arm bushings!!! After picking my beautiful M760 I from the mechanic and driving that long drive home, I decided to call GCR to ask them why would they try to rob me like this because I thought you guys were a reputable company? This guy had the nerve to tell me they never said I had 2 cracked radiators. They only suggested that I replace them probably due to age or something the technician saw but he can't be certain unless he speaks with the technician. What a F&$&@ng joke!! I stated that clearly a pressure test was not done because why would I need to replace 2 radiators( main radiator and low pressure radiator) if they're not leaking? Again he states he doesn't know but he knows that is what's required to fix my issue. The diag fee is only $88 so it's not gonna break the bank at all. I suggested that in good faith they should at least refund that and he stated that they checked 3 different areas and the fee would stand. Mind you I really don't care about the fee and just wanted to hear his response. I say "if you didn't do a pressure test which is what is required for any kind of leak then the job was not done properly and I should be refunded". He stood firm and offered to check my car again for "free" and of course I immediately decline!! Why would I want you scam artists touching my car again so you can actually break something worth 5 grand this time? No I will hard pass. I know this was long but BEWARE OF THE TYPE OF PEOPLE AND ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION! Mechanics are shady people so it's imperative you find one you can trust!!! read more

Stellar service from A to Z! My Audi Q3 decided to act out at the worst possible time: right before Christmas. Called GCR as a new client to ask for advice and availability to have "the grinch" (aka my car) inspected and repaired. Chase answered my call and assured me that I would have the Audi inspected before the year end and that would cost under $100. The towing truck dropped off "the grinch" in GCR parking lot right before closing on December 23rd. Sometimes around noon on December 30th I received a very informative text message from Chase saying that the GCR tamed "the grinch" and the car is ready for pick up! Invoice was under $100, as promised and included complimentary service! Not only that I was not being taken advantage of (which most auto repair shops would do trying to upsell not needed services, unfortunately), but I was provided with meaningful insight that can save me a lot of grief in a long run! Ethics and service quality are a rare find nowadays, hence sharing my positive experience with GCR team. Kudos to everyone and special thanks to Chase for sharing not just his above average professional expertise and customer support skills, but also his incredible kindness towards a tired customer rambling in distress. Chase's understanding and patience made a world of difference to me. I'm grateful for your help and I'll confidently be a repeat customer (hopefully just for regular maintenance, rather than emergencies). Note: this review is for the new GCR South location which doesn't seem to have its own Yelp Page. I have a 2016 F80 BMW that is close to warranty expiration so I called Taylor at GCR South and he quickly scheduled me for an appointment for a "pre-warranty expiration inspection." This is similar to a PPI for those of you who have inspected a used car before purchase. The new location is modern and clean with a nice waiting area with comfortable couches and tables. Coffee was available and the waiting area was spacious. The overall inspection took about an hour and a half to complete. Thankfully my car passed with flying colors so nothing to worry about before end of warranty. The inspection was quite through and included a check of codes stored in the computer. BMWs love to throw codes so I'm glad they were able to check that. The cost was quite reasonable and now that I am out of warranty, I will definitely visit GCR South in the future for all of my maintenance needs. read more

I'm a black female that relocated from Maryland to Atlanta last year. I have an old 2008 Audi A6 that I've own for over 10 years. I really love and try to take care of my. By not knowing anyone personally to recommend a shop I relied on yelp review. After reading the reviews I felt that I should try this shop out. Since then I have established such a great relationship with this shop because I go to the shop whenever I hear any slight noise on my car. Several times I've gone there and they've told me that your car is fine and that I should just relax and enjoy my car. (LITERALLY). On 1/19/2021 at 8 am I had a scheduled maintenance appointment . I was running late for the appointment and didn't have a chance to fill my car with gas.. When I arrived to the shop they explained that all the scheduled maintenance has been completed and that my car drives great. My service advisor Marc actually told me to just enjoy my your car and not worry about any slight noises for the next 30 days!! This was hilarious to me because I will bring my car in at the first slight sound or vibration. So with this long review... I just wanted to personally and publicly thank the Owner Allen, the Service Advisors Mark and Tim and their entire staff for the great customer service that they've consistently provided me. Their shop stands on integrity and quality repairs which is a rare gem now of days!! I've been a claims adjuster that writes estimates at shops for over 17 years and I never told them my current occupation. So with that being sad I already know when most shops are trying to run scams on vulnerable customers that aren't knowledgeable about cars. I have two German automobiles and will not take them ANYWHERE else but German Car Repair in Alpharetta for regular maintenance or repairs. The facility is immaculate, their lot is always full of beautiful German vehicles waiting for service. Marc and Chase (the service writers you will deal with) are extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. They communicate with you throughout the process, always keeping you up to date. Most important is, they are a 100% honest shop. They believe that integrity is paramount and that is rare today, sadly. But not here. I am happily a repeat customer and they treat me like family when I bring my cars in. I have spoken to other car owners who have their work there and they told me the same thing. Here is a quick example... The sunroof on my VW Passat TDI would not close unless you held your finger on the wind screen making it pretty tricky to close. They told me that the sunroof motor may likely beginning to fail, but instead of installing a new roof motor, they reprogrammed it (they also advised that it is a 50/50 chance that it may or may not work) and lo and behold, it worked saving me a ton of money versus if the motor was replaced. This is typical of how they try so hard to find the most cost effective and proper avenue to repair your car. There are no cost cutting moves here, but they really try to save you time and money. Other shops would have just told me ...new motor $$$$$$$. You will not be disappointed if you give these guys a chance on earning your business and I am certain, that like me, you will be back! I can not believe that it has taken me this long to write a review of my experience at German Car Repair. I have been in the enthusiast world for a long time, and it is truly difficult to find an operation with the level of dedication and precision that these folks bring to the game. Just one step into their facility and you can tell that they are a group that take pride in what they do. Their pricing is not out of line with independent shops in the area, but the level of service they provide far exceeds that which I have experienced, even at BMW. They provide loaner vehicles (something I have never seen at an dependent shop in my area) and their waiting area is at dealership level. Through an enthusiast network, I found out about GCR and the people who recommended them were beyond reproach when it came to care and condition of their vehicles. I had my 1985 M635CSi shipped up to them to resolve a plethora of problems that shockingly, no shop in the South Florida area (where I live) seemed to be able to resolve. The level of communication I received was outstanding and my vehicle was brought to a mechanical level that exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. GCR supports the local enthusiast community, and the fact that they enjoy what they do truly does show - from the friendly folks the moment you walk in, to the spotless shop floor that you can practically eat off of. There are many shops to chose from, but there is no competition. I'm a pretty hard-core car-guy - so I do almost all of my own work. Nonetheless, occasionally I need help with diagnosis, and these guys have been very helpful and honest. I've also sent several friends to them and all reported good results. They saved my sister ~$3k by nailing a diagnosis another local German shop missed. They aren't cheap, and won't cut corners - but they are significantly less expensive than the dealer, and essentially just as good. And honest - which is worth a lot in itself. read more

This place is run and operated by charlatans. Do not be fooled by Alan, the King. Should be called, "German Car Retribution." He talks a smooth game but investigate for yourself, please. There is no accountability from the owner to the service advisor team of only 2, and down through the technical team. He (arrogant) would rather fire a customer than to do what is honorable. He thinks by returning my money is the optimal resolution versus doing what is beyond just returning the money. He should have fixed the problem instead of washing his hands. Here is why. The service advisors are not technically trained (and do not undergo annual mandated recurrent training of 80 hours) and are former car salespeople (look at their lame bios on their website) if that gives you any clue as to their motivation. Watch your wallet! My car came out of their purview in worse shape than it had gone in. The owner "fired" me as a customer because supposedly I upset both Service Advisors during their failed attempts to fix my issue. He called my treatment "abuse." Sounds like an excuse to me. They improperly installed a piece of equipment and left a rogue piece of plastic in the inside of the rear hatch panel. They refused to fix the issue supposedly because of my attitude when in reality, they are clueless as to what the problem was and did not take responsibility for their mistakes. I had been going to them for nearly two years and since I am now a terminated customer, I get to experience a refresh from another service provider. The owner did return my money but it cost me more to fix the damage they left behind so in effect, they stole my money. It is a lot wiser and cheaper to retain a customer than to find a new one. Industry stats state that one bad review leads to eight lost potential customers. read more

After seeing a few suggestions for German Car Repair, in Apharetta, I wound up using them to PPI a '99 C2 Cab that I was interested in. I flew down for the PPI yesterday am. I had a great experience with Alan Kidson (owner) and Jerry Weiden (their Porsche Master Mechanic). Beautiful shop, friendly, accommodating service. They worked with the seller to schedule the work (the seller sent it in by towtruck) and agreed to hold it in the shop over the weekend for pickup Monday. Unfortunately, the PPI ended almost as soon as it began, with a number of issues identified right off the bat. Before going any further, Alan and Jerry brought me out to discuss the issues, their required or potential solutions (some of these items were not fully diagnosed, but simply identified) and to make a determination to stop right then and there (at no cost to me) or to continue. I chose not to continue, the car was not what I expected. They had no horse in the race and could easily have gone through the whole process without giving me the option. They appear to be straight shooters and professional. I'd certainly recommend them to anyone looking for a PPI in the Atlanta area. So, a big emotional roller coaster (I woke up yesterday like a kid at Christmas), a waste of my hard earned frequent flier miles on a pretty last minute trip, but I took the opportunity to check out 4 other cars in the area after the aborted PPI, got a bit of an education, and found another likely candidate, too. read more

I have a VW Jetta TDI, and I have had bad experiences at other mechanics because they don't take time to understand the intricacies of my car. But Nick and his father were amazing! They were so thorough in their diagnosis, and really went above and beyond in their inspection. Upon picking up my car, they showed me the new parts under the hood, explained how it had caused the problem, let me test drive before paying, and even showed me the damaged parts that had broken. A friend of mine once owned a suped-up M series and highly recommended GCR. I have been there 2x since and I am afraid of going back. I owned a Mini Cooper. In my 1 visit, my warranty was about to expire and I asked them to inspect the car to see if there is anything else I need to repair before the warranty expired. GCR gave me a flying color. When I changed oil at a competitor shop a few months later, I was told that one of the belts should be replaced. Granted that it may not be a warranty item but I expected GCR would have found the same issue. My 2nd visit was in Dec 2018 when my Check Engine Light came on. GCR diagnosed that the engine thermometer was stuck open that causes the engine to free-flow the coolant. When I picked up the car the next day, I noticed the engine fan was running at full throttle the entire time. It was so loud that two people at gas station told me to turn off the engine while refueling. When I took the car back to GCR, the staff checked the car and said everything was fine BECAUSE THE COMPUTER WAS NOT GIVING OUT ERROR CODE. When I brought the car back the 3rd day, I didn't turn of the engine and showed it to the staff. The staff repeated that everything was fine because no error code. When I questioned the staff whether he thought the fan was too loud, he said something akin to, "well, it is your car and you know it better than anyone else". At my insistence, the staff took the car into the shop again. This time, the tech found out some issue with sensor wiring due to "newer version of the thermostat" and solved the problem for good. In my opinion, I think there are great master techs at GCR. Unfortunately, I think my car simply didn't warrant the attention of the good techs. However, I felt more upset that the staff didn't know better and tried to patronize me. read more
