Doctor Crowder and the staff at the Beverly Rd location were very professional and knowledgeable. The offices are clean and up to date. Equipment is excellent. Only complaint is wait times. This was my First time using this business for an updated eye exam for eye glasses and contacts. I also had a minor corneal infection. After the eye exam I was prescribed drops, but not given an RX for glasses or contacts. They told me come back in 3 days for a recheck and I did. I was there for over an hour that resulted in being told to increase drops from 4 to 6x daily. A total waste of time and MONEY! Still NO RX GIVEN FOR GLASSES OR CONTACTS! I was told to COME BACK AGAIN FOR ANOTHER RE-CHECK $200 eye exam $130 recheck appt $130 for ANOTHER scheduled Recheck $360 later for MAYBE getting RX I went there for to begin with! They are running a racquet and they know it!!!! read more

Dr. Crowder is professional and able. Dr. Pan is thorough and knowledgeable. BUT the admin is the worst physician's office staff I've encountered in 40 years. If we get through this cataract surgery without my mother's eye falling out, I will NEVER recommend this group. You will NOT be able to speak with a person and you will NOT get a call back from office staff, a coordinator or even be contacted before a procedure. Large practice that overbooks appointments and makes you wait much longer than is acceptable.

I was charged $55 to to have 2 eyelashes removed that were sticking me in the eye once the doctor had me in the chair and the lens up to my eye. I had my mask on as per their requirement requirement and it was making eyelashes poke me in the eye. When I removed my mask I did not really have a chance to take care of the eyelashes myself. Doctor Kaufman asked if I wanted him to remove the eyelashes And I thought it would be easier for him so I said yes please I have been arguing back-and-forth with the billing office that this is absolutely ridiculous. I should have been told I would have been charged for each eyelash removed and given The Choice to do it myself. If a company is this petty I'm not sure what to expect going forward. But. Everyone I know was telling me to find a different eye doctor. read more

Relative to their Cumming office on Bald Ridge... The medical staff (i.e.- Dr. Shaffer and his assistants ) are top notch and great. HOWEVER, the rest of the office staff and eyewear sales staff are just plain rude and cannot be bothered with patient needs. Trying to reach a person via phone is a challenge (all voicemails) and leaving voicemails yields no callbacks (2 separate people over 5 days). Unkept promises by a "Kathy" to return a call within 48 hours to advise of status of overdue contact lense shipment. Finally, after insisting to speak with a person to assist, "Julissa" actually stepped-up to help. I find out that the trial lenses were never ordered by "Kathy". Julissa was very professional and kept her word on everything. She got my daughter's trial contacts ordered and delivered within 48 hours. I have a family of 7 that would be new patients for this firm; but that is now not likely going to happen if this is a typical experience. 1) Difficult to schedule appts: On long holds. Disconnected. Phone tag. Constant putting on hold. 2) Requested an Ophthalmologist because I have a medical condition in which eye treatment is critical. I also need my prescription updated for glasses / contacts due to ever changing vision caused by my condition. I was told I must schedule 2 different appointments. The Ophthalmologist will only see me for the medical condition. Then I have to see an Optometrist for the vision check. I find this ridiculous. I have never been required to see 2 different doctors my entire life and schedule 2 different appointments. I have always seen an Opthamologist for the medical and vision check during a single visit. Prior to my medical condition, it made sense that I only saw an Optometrist. When I stated I would like to see only one doctor, I was simply denied so I stated that I would not move forward with an appointment. The lady responded rudely with "ok bye" then with an abrupt hang up. The only reason I contacted N. GA Eye Clinic is because I've moved and my prior practice is not an ideal commute. But I went ahead and booked with my prior practice "Thomas Eye Group". Yes, with one Opthamologist for my medical AND vision check together. read more

My appointment was at 0800. I was seen for about 15 minutes and then made to wait 1 1/2 hours alone in a waiting room without explanation. I was finally seen about 0950 without any apology. My interaction with the doctor was not that good. Most of the information I got was from his assistant. Made an appointment in 2022 for an appointment 2/27/23. I called them that morning to confirm my appointment which was later in the afternoon (because they never called/texted me to confirm in the days prior like most doctor's offices). They confirmed the appointment for that day, then called me back a couple of hours later to inform me that my appointment was actually for 2/27/24 (2024!!!). WHAT?! The woman put me on hold for over 13 minutes (never bothered to come back on the line and apologize for the hold). She finally came back (still no apology) and confirmed that the appointment was for 2024. Uh, YEAH, SHE ALREADY TOLD ME THAT! What was she doing while I was on hold for 13+ minutes?! I made this appointment months ago and made sure my calendar was cleared for that day/time. I lost $$$ that I would have made if I had worked that day! If I had called them a few hours before an appointment to cancel, they would have charged me a no-show fee, but THEY totally screw up and offer no compensation! Definitely will be looking for a new eye doctor who has competent schedulers! read more

Dr. Kaufman has been my eye doctor for four years. I recently had laser cataract surgery, which he told me would be tricks because I had astigmatism and had previously had LASIK surgery. I am extremely pleased with the results. My cataracts and astigmatism are completely gone and my distance vision is almost perfect. I need reading glasses, but I am 73, so that is not a big deal. I have never had a hard time getting someone on the phone or a long wait once I was there. The staff is great and work like a well-oiled machine. I highly recommend them. read more

I set up an eye exam with the North GA Eye Clinic in Cumming on a recommendation. I wanted to explore getting LASIK or PRK eye surgery, since l was growing tired of not being able to see anything without glasses or contacts. When i walked in, it is what you would expect in a normal eye center..., clean, profession looking office with plenty of glasses to chose from and a friendly staff scurrying around doing errands and helping customers. I checked in for my appointment and was seen within 10 minutes. My eye exam went like it always has for the past 40+ year. Yeah I can't see the big "E" at the top, but I know it is there (-3.5 vision.. I know others are worse but I stil can't see the E which is important). Anyway, after putting my contacts back in I discussed with Dr. Kaufman my options for corrective eye surgery. After some test which took about a hour (done the same day) it was determined I was a perfect candidate for LASIK or PRK (my choice). I knew nothing about PRK, but after discussing with Dr. Kaufman, researching on my own and finally watching all the YouTube videos I could on the topic, I decided to go with PRK. My wife drive me to the NA GA Eye Clinic and I checked in for the surgery. I was asked if I wanted any valium before the surgery. Heck yeah why not and so I took the little pill. Then I went to the back room layed back in a nice reclining operating chair. A couple of drops were put into my eyes and then some cold saline after my eyes were lightly polished with some sort of eye squeegee. Next thing I know I am staring at a light, which is correcting my vision. No pain and took about 10 sec. per eye under the laser. Dr. Kauman then puts protective lenses in my eyes (like contacts) and tells me I am good to go. Ok, done right and I should be able to see. Nope, my eyes felt the same as normal, but now since I took the valium I was getting tired. The wife drove me home and l went to bed and slept for about 12 hours. Now during your sleep you have to wake up to put fresh drops in your eyes every couple of hours so that your eyes can repair and so that you don't have any pain. No big deal and I just set the timer on my phone and did the routine. So the next day I woke up and looked around. Hum..no change. The wife is asking me about my vision and I am telling her no change and she looks concerned. I didn't panic and just stayed with the routine. I could hear her mumbling though and thoughts of me having to take care of myself down the road crossed my mind. Ok, so day two I wake up and am laying in bed. I look up and can see the corner of the room in complete detail. Are you kidding me...this is great. I get up and try to not look at anything bright and I am now hooked that this is going to work. Amazing age we live in is all I could think. The next day was even better, but now my eyes started to itch. Hummm...so now I know first had what everyone is talking about on the 3rd day being the toughest. It's not because of pain and is only because your eyes are repairing and constantly itch. Well I kept the eyes drops flowing that day and get threw it. The next day I woke up no eye itch, great vision and life was good. I went back to work and stared at a computer all day and did what I had to do. About a week later I had the protective lenses removed and drove home. I was sensitive to lights at night for about a month, but when I say sensitive I don't mean painful. I mean that lights at night looked bright; tail lights, head lights, you name it...I could see but they were all bright. This went away too... I had my follow up eye exam today with Dr. Kaufman and no problems. 20/15 vision, which is awesome. I could see the E and since I read the 20/20 line so easily the nurse had me read the line below for fun. No problem and did that one too. Wife went there for eye exam and was late being called back and after they dialated her eyes they had her take a seat in the lobby and forgot her. After one hour she had to go to the desk and remind them. Saw staff arguing about patients getting ahead of other patients or out of order or being forgotten Then to top it off the tried to charge her a copay when our insurance clearly said no copay! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and comfortable. The staff is amazing! Everyone I spoke to was warm and friendly and explained everything to me in detail. Dr. Kaufman was professional and caring. He answered all of my questions concerning my cataract and lens replacement surgery. He did not pressure me to make a decision at that moment but gave me time to think about what steps I wanted to take. One the day of my surgery he was very calming and encouraging as he prepared me for the surgery. At this Time of COVID19, They are ALL wearing masks and WE the patiences must wear masks as well! The waiting room chairs are covered with plastic wrap and changed as each person gets up, the chairs are also spaced out. The Visit for a complete eye exams visit is about 2 hours. I feel everything is checked carefully and my eye "issues" are taken care of. Dr Kauffman is a wonderful Dr and he has been my dr for over 6 years. He has helped me with my dry eyes and I will be having cataract surgery next year.. My husband will be having his cataract surgery in a few weeks, Dr Kauffman is the only Dr we would trust to do the surgery . We are very happy with Dr Kauffman his staff . read more

So sad that all the money they received from my husband ($10.000-$15,000) , that we should of been treated with the same respect ,we gave them, during all the hours sitting to get called in for your appointments ,and times we put in this place! My husband had laser and cataract surgery starting in October 2018 and Had to do many weekly follow-ups from then on! When you leave the office during every visit ,YOU CK. OUT TO PAY as you LEAVE THE DESK !Never did we receive invoices, phone calls, on any bills! I went with him numerous of times, and heard him ask what he owes sometimes he would buy, eyedrops, reading glasses, etc. Then all of a sudden he got a phone call on Friday 4/5 saying he had an appointment on Monday and also that he had an outstanding balance , way back in October! Needless we were shocked because we've been paying all along, so where did this Balance suddenly appear from? She was kind a nasty, and my husband said if there's a balance, then it is your fault for never collecting all the times he was there with his follow ups ! Then he requested to have copies of the invoices. She never mentioned that he wouldn't be able to come to his appointment Monday 4/8! Do you think if she did ,we would've been angry then! Instead of trying to figure out that there must of been a mistake somewhere , because all the followups he had ,(AND PAYING )all this times, that there being charge for a bill in October, when he's been paying, all of the long every time he leaves their business! Instead of helping us they treated us like the dirt on the bottom of your shoe! So he got irritated with them and told them to just pay the balance and he'll figure it out when he looks back all his insurance forms, and payments receipts ! They said they couldn't take it because they sent it to collections and it out of there hands ! All this over $180 accumulations that they screwed up on! If This was my place and the customer was always paying and paying in person frequently ,since October I would question how all the sudden a bill got missed placed ,it was from all the way in October Apparently they're just too busy to care about the individual person that they work on! Just another number to there income! The sad thing is ,sitting back and watching my husband be treated like a criminal.! I believe sometimes when a business gets too busy they don't take the time to do things thoroughly with professionalism! Adding on to there behavior of staff ,lying on what really happened. Anyone in there right mind who spent all the money in one medical group , and treated them with respect during there lack of professionalism in this office I think would be very offended on how they handled themselves to us and yet lied to cover there own mistakes! read more

Had cataract surgery on both eyes. I was so impressed with the professional care and the way they answered all of my questions and concerns. Yes, the appointments took a bit of time, but it was due to the extensive testing they did. The only waiting time I experienced was when I sat waiting for my eyes to dilate after the medication. I was so comfortable with the process and the results are great! I recommend Dr. Kaufman and his entire staff to anyone! read more

Great doctor...great staff....except for office manager "Heath" and whoever else was to call me back and didn't, all in reference to an unsuspected and uninvited side-bar invoice. Had cataract surgery in mid June and on second post-op appointment Dr. Kaufman asked, while examining my eye, if it was OK to pull-out two eye lashes that seemed to be growing awry? I said sure. Tweezers and two seconds and they're gone! Received a $75 bill for what they called a "surgery" the very next week. Called the office and found not one person sympathetic with my claim of foul....NOT ONE! The office manager was to return my call, but evidently too busy. I hate the thought of investigating and researching other like eye professionals regarding my eyesight; however, I shall not elect to rely on North Georgia Eye Clinic and its lackadaisical billing office personnel to answer....How could this possibly be? read more

I scheduled the first available appointment - on the same day. I saw Dr. Kauffman for my exam. He took the time to explain every part of the process and I appreciated his method and manner of care. Never felt more unimportant in my life. I think they forgot I was even there. I needed glasses and contacts. They didn't get me contacts or even bother to have me pick out glasses. After the initial exam they dilated my eyes and sent me back to the waiting hall where I sat blind for an hour and 15 minutes without anyone saying a word to me. Meanwhile, I got to hear about all the employees plans for the weekend so that was entertaining I guess. I was finally pulled into another exam room where Dr. (never introduced himself) storms in does a quick exam and decided I needed a heating pad for my eyes, eye goop , and dry eye vitamins rounding out to a total of $70ish.He also suggested a ground breaking laser eye surgery that would greatly help me. Then said a quick bye and left. I thought this was finally the time I would pick out my glasses but nope, it was time for me to leave because apparently the closed 45 mins ago. I will NEVER go here again!! Do yourself a favor and find another place too! read more

I really like this practice and have been going there for a while, but if you need your pupillary distance for a virtual reality headset they will not give it to you. Just a heads up. It is an understandable policy given the amount people ordering glasses online. I just think they should make some exceptions to allow safe and comfortable usage for people wanting to get the most out or virtual reality. read more

I took my daughter for a routine eye exam. The entire process took three hours. We sat in the waiting room for most of the time. The doctor only saw us for about three minutes. We have vision on our insurance and the appointment should have been paid at 100% by insurance. They charged me $160. I believe they are practicing insurance fraud. I will never return or recommend this establishment. I am not sure how to go about reporting the unethical practices. read more

I was told I "was quite the princess" by the doctor....are you kidding me? The whole process made me very uncomfortable. My husband and I were filling out paper work when another client starting complaining about the excessive paperwork on the iPad, she was not happy with her process thus far, and was threatening to cancel and leave. My husband and I agreed the paperwork was a bit excessive for an eye exam, seemed like a lot of CYA, and when we mentioned it to assistant behind the counter we quickly told that "that's how it is" by another associate in scrubs, we presumed a nurse. She was very rude, not friendly at all, and very quick to tell you how things were going to work around there in very condescending tone. I surely would not want her poking around in my eyes for a glaucoma test or anything else!!! As we continued to waited I accessed the poor selection of eye ware options. There was nothing young or trendy, no name brands, in fact the only high end designer they claim to have was Tom Daley and even that line was was still very limited with about 20 frames, mostly feminine, not good for my husband. (Side Note: If your a guy you will be choosing from Swiss Army and that's it.) A "doctor" as he represented himself, was sent out to talk to me. I explained that I have had difficultly in the past being fitted properly with contacts, and I would like to keep the same kind and explained what I was looking for, he proceeded to call me a princess and walked off to check on the other lady with paper work issues.... um this is when my husband and I knew we had picked the wrong place to bring our business too. I thanked the young, super sweet, front desk attendent for her time, and offered to pay if their was an appointment fee. I was told by the grouchy blonde nurse, that I was not even talking too, that there was not a fee at this time. I then explained to the nurse that this office was clearly not a good fit for us, and that we were leaving. Totally felt like we were being duped!!! You shouldn't walk away and feel like she was hacking all your personal information you gave her for the appointment just because you refused take that kind of treatment. Horrible experience!!! Never going back!!! Never referring anyone to them!!! It is, however, a very nice building on Lake Lanier, with iPads not clip boards, which clearly dictates the overinflated prices we didn't stick around to pay.
