This is a very busy practice - always has been - and Dr Johnson and the staff are very capable of handling that volume - in fact, I do not recall ever having an appointment that was late - 01/14/2025, was no exception - i was seen for initial tests very quickly and on time - then i was sent back to the waiting room where i did sit for a bit longer than usual - and when in the exam room with Dr Johnson, we were interrupted on x3 separate occasions by the staff (again, highly unusual) HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED - there was an elderly patient who was in the middle of a potential medical emergency that Dr Johnson had discovered during the patient's visit - and Dr Johnson and the staff were doing whatever was needed to get the patient the treatment they needed - and the patient was not cooperating (due to costs i think) - so while they were trying to see me for my routine annual eye exam, they were serving the needs of a patient who was at risk and really did not understand it - and here is what was amazing to me - not only did they get the patient the care they needed, but they completed my exam, including ALL of the tests, and stayed until my visit with the optician (Aquiel - who is a whole other level of amazing on her own!) was complete - see, this was now after regular business hours - Dr Johnson and the staff continued to offer apologies for "my inconvenience" - which really was not much - this is a people centric practice (and they have updated their lineup of high end frames) - i highly recommend! read more

X I use to attend Optometry school in the early 90's so I know the importance of good vision. Dr Johnson is a very experienced optometrist and has a very nice bed side manor to examine your eyes. He incorporates high tech in the examination that eliminates the need for dilation but you can still get that if you prefer. Anyway. the whole process from paperwork,exam, etc. to picking out your frames is efficient and professional from the staff. Also, there is a wide selection of frames at different prices. I advise making an appointment ahead to save on wait time. I recommend Gwinnett Eye Clinic for eye exams in Gwinnett. read more

I almost forgot to schedule my yearly eye appointment, but thankfully one of the front desk associates was able to squeeze me in the next day on a friday afternoon. I arrived a little before my appointment time, did my temperature check, and filled out some forms before seeing my eye doctor. Although my appointment was scheduled for 2pm, I had to wait an additional 20-30min after filling out the forms. I wasn't in any rush at the time, so it wasn't a big deal, but just a good thing to point out so you're not disappointed if it happens. I was so glad that my doctor was friendly and very thorough when explaining what was going on with my eyes. I believe there's multiple eye doctors working at this clinic, so let me know if you'd like the name of my doctor. Overall it was a smooth process and I'm glad I was able to finally schedule my eye appointment for the year! read more

I called to schedule an appointment and was able to get seen within the week. When I arrived, I was pleased to wait in the spacious and uncrowded waiting area. About 15 min after I checked in, I was seen by a tech who quickly walked me through the preliminary eye testing before waiting another 15 minutes to be seen by Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson & the tech both explained every aspect of the exam and was not only thorough but personable. After, I was seen by another representative that helped me pick out frames and walk through pricing- that took another 25 minutes or so. I was quoted around $400 for a new set of glasses (lenses & frame included) which included a 20% discount, but was advised to shop around to see if I could get better prices before going through with purchasing. I ended up paying around $160 overall for my eye exam which included fitting for both contacts and glasses. This is pretty steep IMO but worth it for the quality of service and expertise compared to my usual chain eye exam experience. read more

Everyone was friendly and professional. My appointment was at 4:00 and I didn't see the Dr until 4:45. Dr. Johnson apologized and explained that they had some people come in late in the morning and they hadn't been able to catch up all day. Which I could understand, it happens. I've have more than one bad experience with this clinic. Due to unprofessionalism/lack of patient confidentiality/moral and ethics of all staff. I ask to speak to a supervisor or head nurse which I've spoken to last time I had a complaint and now there apparently has NEVER been a supervisor other than the doctor himself. So either I'm being lied to now or I was lied to back then. Also the " servicing of your lenses/frames for life" is a lie. The warranty is only for a year. While I call back to ask yet again for a DIRECT number to a supervisor I've been given the clinic's phone number to talk to someone who AGAIN isn't there. I will never return to this outrageous and completely dis functional clinic again. Mind you I'm unfortunately not the only one with the same complaints. I shouldn't even get start of the racism I experienced from a temp staff. read more

Great facility and people. This was my first time at the clinic and I had my temperature was taken upon arrival. The staff was extremely friendly and Dr.Clements was very professional. I called around 10AM on a Monday and a woman answered the phone by saying "Hello?" (who answers a business line like that??) I asked if I had the right number for the Gwinnett Eye Clinic and the woman told me, "Oh, yes. Can you hold on a moment?" I hung up after being on hold for 10 minutes and called back, but this time a different woman answered with a much more professional greeting. I told her I had been on hold and I think they forgot about me. She apologized profusely and scheduled my appointment right away. By luck of the draw, I happened to see Dr. Clements that day in the office instead of Dr. Johnson (who seems to be the doctor everyone else has seen in these reviews). But let me tell you-- Dr. Clements is AMAZING. Super friendly, attentive, and very sharp. Makes your eye exam feel like you're just meeting up with a friend.... a friend who just happens to be very interested in the health of your eyes/vision. Ha! :) I haven't met Dr. Johnson so I can't speak on him, but I can say that I would recommend Dr. Clements over and over again to anyone I know. In fact, I liked him so much that I'm still giving Gwinnett Eye Clinic 5 stars despite the initial weirdness with their front desk staff. read more

I love dr Johnson, but I always have to wait to be seen. I find that very unprofessional. They don't even apologize. I recommend dr Johnson but your clinic needs to improve in so many aspects: your front desk people is very unprofessional, barely greet the patient, they don't reinforce the use of mask inside the facility, knowing that the COVID delta variant is so high here in Georgia. read more

If I could, I'd give them negative stars! They messed up my contact orders on multiple ocassions. I'd confront them and all they say is that that's what was ordered. Last time, I got new contacts but it didn't look like the one I had previously. They just said the box changed. I got home, it was not the same. And it said "not for sale"! I paid for a sample box! They tried to rip me off. Especially since my vision changed, I asked them for a sample, they said they didn't have samples. They also said my insurance only covered 4 boxes a year but when I asked a different eye doctor, they said my insurance covered 8 boxes a year. They have never apologized once. I will never go here anymore and won't suggest this place to anyone! read more

I have been going to this clinic for years and have great service. I love Dr. Johnson - he's got a great demeanor and is very kind. He gets 5 stars. I have purchased glasses from this location and I have had a great pair, and a couple of not so great pairs. The ones I am wearing now, never seemed quite right, so I think the someone in the lab doesn't know what they are doing. Gary, the optician is great, though Right now I am a bit ticked off at his office staff because I just called to make an appointment (4:54 pm). The phone rang once, someone picked it up, paused a second or two and then just hung up. I immediately called back and it went to the after recording. Still not even 5p.m. Piss poor customer service. I will mention there are one or two uppity front desk staff members there. They get 1 star. read more

Dr Johnson and the staff are highly competent and kind on top of that. They have state of the art technology to help them make the best diagnosis. But the distinctive thing about this office is the personal attention you get from Dr. J and the team. I had my first visit to Gwinnett Eye Clinic this week. I had a very good experience. The staff was very pleasant and the equipment was up-to-date. They had a machine/computer that estimates the vision in each of your eyes so that the doctor has a starting point. Dr. Johnson was personable; listened to what I felt my needs were; fine-tuned my vision prescription; and explained to me why he thought I was having a difficult time with my vision. I then met with Melia and she helped me pick out frames and lenses that would fit my needs. I was very satisfied with my visit. They don't even bother to call you to remind you when your glasses are ready which ticks me off considering that I have the same weekday work schedule as the office. Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing but if you go in on a Saturday, you feel rushed and they try to get you in and out. If you are 50+, they have trouble to get right prescription for you, they would push you to get progressive glasses (around $900), and recommended you to get eyes surgery. If you compared the price they have charged, it was always overcharged. If lens were broken within a year, they will give you the new one, but cut the corner - without anti-glare, even you had paid for it from the very beginning. If you asked for prescription immediately right after eyes examine, they charged you some fee, even law says, they should not. If they got wrong on your PD(pupillary distance) , but you found out after one year, they would tell you, you are on your own. even that wrong PD could get you killed when you drive. read more

I have been a patient of Gwinnett Eye Clinic for 30 years! Unfortunately, I was born with bad vision so I've met a few Optometrists in my life; most have been more than adequate. It wasn't until I saw Dr. Johnson and then bought glasses and contacts from them for the first time back in 1988 that I realized what vision care really SHOULD be. Dr. Johnson is the nicest guy, as mentioned in other reviews, but more importantly he really cares and maintains current knowledge as well as acquiring the latest technology to support the very best diagnosis on eye health and vision. Trina is a seasoned professional on fitting contact lenses and she always follows up to make sure you have what you need. And last (but not least) Kathy is amazing at selecting and fitting the very best glasses. I am just no good at picking out my own frames, and Kathy has never let me down. I really love my new glasses. Yes... I COULD get glasses cheaper elsewhere, but when it comes to my vision, I am not willing to compromise. I'll clip coupons for my groceries. I want to take excellent care of my eyes so my vision lasts my lifetime. I can't recommend this team highly enough. I had been to this clinic on and off for over a dozen years. This last experience was bad. It took Dr. Johnson 3 exams to get my prescription right. He seems too busy talking and unfocused. He made silly mistakes. It took 3 visit with the glasses department to get my frames sitting correctly and comfortably. My vision with the new glasses was never as good as I thought it should be, but I lived with it for over six months before going to another clinic who prescribed an "advanced" transition lens that allowed for greater field of acuity. I am very satisfied. I wished I had gone to the new clinic sooner, despite wasting the $400 or so on the lenses from Gwinnett Eye Clinic. read more

I do not recommened this clinic. I had an appointment at 9:30 and got to the the clinic early in order to fill out the required paperwork. 10:05 rolled around and I still had not been seen. Mind you, theres no on in the waiting area except for me, an African-American woman. I ask the attendant at the front desk about the hold up and she could not give me a time on when the doctor would be availble for my 9:30 appt. So I left and decided to take my business elsewhere.
